Spacecraft and END

Okay, here's my problem. When simulating power sources for spacecraft, you have two options: buy ship systems with 0 END; or buy them with an END cost, and buy an Endurance Reserve for the ship. That in and of itself is fine, but Star HERO goes on to mention that when calculating the END consumption of systems that are always in operation -- life support, gravity, etcetera -- you treat those essential systems as Constant Area of Effect Attacks, and pay END for them on each of the ship's Phases. That makes no sense to me, and here's why: Why should a ship with SPD 4 pay more END per Turn for its Life Support and artificial gravity than a ship with SPD 2? After all,…

Another Mythbuster test. They tested handguns (inlcuding .44mag), rifles, and a 12g shotgun (slug) against a 180lb dead pig hanging by a hair on a metal hook (tap with a finger was enough to knock it off). None of them except the shotgun were able to dislodge the pig. Even the shotgun only knocked it off... the high-speed camera showed no appreciable knockback. They even used fully automatic weapons - no effect. I know gun experts have been saying such things for a long time, and knockback is a lot of fun, but it is also nice to have some demonstrable experimentation to witness in support of scientific fact. Not suggesting to eliminate knockback…

The Quintessential BODY. Okay, because of the arguments against BODY and Damage being exponential in nature, (and many of them are very valid and true), I have gone back to square-one, and meditated on the subject in a effort divest myself of all prior potentially false misconceptions, and get to the heart of the issue: what is BODY? [All page references are from 5er, because that's the only book I'm using now, in an effort to become more familiar with it, and because it's the most current book.] Glossary definition (pg 16) - "BODY: (1) A Characteristic representing how much injury a character can withstand before dying." [I would add on to this d…

... so why aren't I posting in the Dark Champions thread? Because I also picked up The Valdorian Age. I know I'm behind the times with adding these to my collection, but it's been the first visit to my FLGS in a few months - since I got Dark Champions, in fact. Now, I haven't really had much time to flick through The Valdorian Age - just skim the magic system everyone's been raving about and looking at the pretty maps. But I've had more of a chance to dip into Hudson City, and while I certainly can't claim to have read anywhere near all, I'm hugely impressed by what I have read. This book is just packed with detail. It's ironic, in a way. I went there …

Next question, same campaign (do you think i'm spamming? ) I'm building bioware cyberimplant; what are Bioware? bios are modification made by genetical rewrite or genetic-cloned-organic replacement. I think that almost all are inherent, like Skinweave (damage resistnce), radwave (LS to radiation), vacweave (LS to vacuum), tuff bone or muscle bone lace (bonus to CON), Artificial Endo Skeleton (Damage Reduction), and like but for give "inherent" advantage, i must use always on limitation. Always on states that: 1) power become visible 2) power must limit some cases are ok (heavy skinweave are visible and may reduce touch perception; endoskeleton in…

I didn't want to bother Steve with this so I'm posting it here. I've been GM'ing Champions and have managed to get almost my entire group hooked on HERO (score one for TKD). So now my old D&D DM is converting to HERO for his new fantasy campaign, one of my friends is looking into making a Jedi campaign, and the farthest along of the secondary campaigns is going to be Dark Champions which I started making a character for. I want my guy to have .45 caliber revolvers as his primary weapon with some naked advantages, but I can't get the cost of the Peacemakers in ReFREd to work right. All I see is a 2d6-1 RKA (25 points) with the +1/4 advantage of +1 Stun Multipli…

I'm converting "flashbulb" weapon, and i'm searching idea to make it like original concept. What is Flashbulb? is a weapon that blind opponent, and cause an epileptic induced state that paralyze unprotected opponent. Then: blinding attack are a Flash against Sight Group; secondary effect is linked to flash and "only if flash was succesful" but... what type of attack? an Huge "Stun Only EB"? an Entangle? a Trasform (normal human in human with epilepsy)? tnx

Just want to make sure I understand the rules here. If their is a Force wall up with X/X PD/ED, Mental powers and BoECV stuff can go right through it without damaging the wall. Correct? Thanks

A player of mine, ok - my brother, wants to have a young heroine get a perk not mentioned. That would be: PERK: LEGALLY INDEPENDENT. Although the origin isn't finished yet, the heroine would be under 18, yet legally responsible for taking care of herself since her parents are presumably dead. At what young age do you think the heroine could get it (in a superhero world, not reality) and how much?

Examples: Life Support: Immortality; Only to Protect Against NNDs (-?); Life Support: Immunity to all poisons; Only to Protect Against NNDs (-?); Mental Defense: 1; Only to Protect Against NNDs (-?); +Damage Resistance: 1 rMD; Only to Protect Against NNDs (-?); Maybe a -1? ...or do you think it is far to meta-gamish to allow for any SFX? I was thinking along the lines of a spell/potion/whatever that could, for example, change a character to be treated as being immortal even if (s)he actually ages and dies like anyone else. This would work against attacks with NND: immortal if allowed in the campaign. The immunity example might be a less debatab…

At the risk of getting laughed off the boards, has anyone tried doing a Harry Potter conversion for Hero? A friend is putting together a campaign to introduce his son to role-playing.

Hello all, I'm trying to build a paralyzing touch power. Here is what I have thus far. Paralytic Touch: Entangle 6d6, 8 DEF, Cannot Be Escaped With Teleportation (+1/4), Takes No Damage From Attacks All Attacks (+1/2), Invisible Power Effects, SFX Only (Fully Invisible; +1/2), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2), Persistent (+1/2), Uncontrolled (Duration 1 hour +1/2 hour per point by which character makes his skill roll) (+1/2) (262 Active Points); Timing Must Be Perfect (Attacker cannot miss a phase or a hit) (-1), Must Make A Special Sequence of Blows (3 blows) (-1/2), Must Make Very Accurate Blows Against Target (-3 OCV for placement) (-1/2), No Range (-1/2), Cann…

How would you build the power that allows a human to mentally control computers I think, Telepathy (machine class minds) w/ computer programming skill roll. As well (maybe) as Mind control (machine class minds) w/ computer programming skill roll. As well as Raido perception/Transmission. What do you all think?

Next question about a "freaky" cyberware: Live Wires (conversion from CP2020's Chrome Book 3/4 to hero) essenctially is a "semi independent" artificial tentacle-like structure, sometime called "cybersnake" that sprout out from an orifice (natural or artificially created) and has a "plug" in front; When user send some "mental command" he sprout out from his housing and "plug" into a socket. Useful to connecting with a smart weapon, smart veichle and like. Mechanical construction is: Extra Limbs, Limited Manipulation (-¼), Reduced STR (STR 5 -¼), OIF (DEF 3; -½), Non Persistent (-¼),Cyberware (-½), Humanity Loss (1d6, -¾) plus Mind Link (only one ?smart?…

A question about Martial Arts: Tai Ch'i Ch'uan's strike say "STR+2d6, Must Follow Block" this mean: 1) i must declare Block (or abort to block); then i must block succesfully, then, in the same segment (or in next segment if aborted to block) i can use strike 2) i must declare Block (or abort to block); then i must block succesfully, then, in the next segment (or in second next segment if aborted to block) i can use strike 3) i must declare Strike, then i must wait for an incoming attack to use block, then i may use strike... 4) some other combination... thank you very much

Could I buy another inch of Tunneling with this power to make a 2 hex wide hole (FX is smashing each fist into adjcent hexes, knocking down the walls)? Also if I bought Trigger (mental command) could I use the second inch on a second wall? For example if the character was running from one room, across the hall, to a second room, could he use one inch on the first door and the second inch on the other door? (Likewise since the power would not be bought for walls/doors only, it could be used to smash through floors multiple floors while falling, assuming it was an intentional fall.) Tunneling 2" 10 DEF Trigger (mental command) 1/4, 0END (61 Active Points) No Non-comb…

Hello. I'd like my character to perform the ol' "Get between two villains and have them both attack me, leaping out of the way so they hit each other" trick. MY GOD! How do I build this?

My group usually plays heroic games, so we haven't used knockback much. But a recent forray into Champions land has led to a dispute. 5ed p280 says you subtract 2d6 from "the amount of BODY done by the attack." This is BEFORE defenses are applied, yah? We're talking the BODY rolled on the dice? Or is this another thing I've been doing wrong all these years? (I confess, I've found one or two of those since I discovered this board.) Thanks for the help,

Sorry to ask, but I'm looking for a reference or specific Limitation value for the following: +XX to CON, Only vs Being Stunned (ie: If the STUN done to a character exceeds the characters CON then the character is Stunned. See FReD page 410.) Is it a -1/2, -1, or lesser/greater Limitation? Please...any book/page reference would be appreciated. Nadrakas...

I'm redoing, for my own house rules, modern projectiles. So far, I have a looks-reasonable damage estimation guide where the amount of physical damage is estimated based on projectile weight and projectile muzzle velocity, as AP damage. However, there is then the question of shells that contain an explosive charge, and I was wondering how to simulate that. (a) For contemporary warheads, is this damage PD regardless of the SFX? E.g., If a shaped charge warhead uses a blast of molten liquid to punch through armor, is this still damage against PD? And if so, would tank armor, for example, have lower ED than PD? ( What is the real world useful blast rad…

Mythbusters just confirmed the myth of water protecting you from bullets. At 14" of vertical depth (about 2' at angle) a gun fired at a 23 degree angle was unable to harm a person. Even a .50 cal rifle. The rounds disintigrated before reaching the ballistics gel. It would seem then that .6m of water provides 18 rPD vs. Bullets (and who knows what else). They also tried 5.56 and .308, both of which disintigrated. Lower velocity rounds actually seemed to fair better... a 9mm was able to be lethal at 7'. Interesting.

New question about flash and FD i want to build a "flash" attack that is an urticant spray (similar to pepper spray in FREd...) this spray will work "at contact" with eye, not "through" eye; so FD like polarized lens (only cover eye bulb, not eye socket), anti-dazzle cyberoptic or inherent flash resistence but NOT against Glasses, IR Goggles and eye protection of some sort so: can i build this "spray" as a Flash with AVLD (protection is a full restrictive coverage; +¾)? or i must build this as a NND (protection is a full restrictive coverage; +1) or a "normal" flash powerful enough to break through some standard resistence?
