Timing of Hit Location/ Armor Application 1 2

All right, this is a bit complicated, but it came up recently and I find it a fascinating subject, so I'd like to see it examined and dissected by the scientists here on the HERO forums. Let's assume the following conditions. ...You are using the Hit Locations Optional Rule. ...Each individual segment of a particular "suit of armor" could, in theory, be worn by itself. When a character wearing Armor takes damage from another character, do you apply the Armor rating to the damage first, and subsequently apply the Hit Location Modifier for the area affected, or do you apply the Hit Location Modifier first, and then apply the Armor Rating to the result? …

Contrary to the guidelines for Growth, realistic size changes increase STR differently: "As creatures get larger, weight, which is proportional to volume, goes up in proportion to the cube of the increase in dimension. Strength, on the other hand, is known to be roughly proportional to cross section of muscle for any particular limb, and goes up in proportion to the square of the increase in dimension." (full article here: http://www.bearfabrique.org/Catastrophism/sauropods/biganims.html) After the math, this means that when you increase by 1 level of size (e.g., from 2m tall to 4m tall), STR actually increases by +10 instead of +15. Conversely when size decreas…

Hello, I'm new here and also not sure where to put this Thread... Thus I begin here! -Sorry for my bad english, but my native language is Spanish and I am only really used to write also in German and Italian... But here is my question: Do you know where I can find (or have) any HERO System related Files about the characters or ships of 'International Rescue' (classic TV or Movie) from THUNDERBIRDS? Thanks in advance Lobezno

Hero Sysrm V4: What is the best way to make a tough Marshal Artist that only have average strength? Do you just buy the marshal attacks Punch, kick, etc and then buy levels for each attack? Or a general level for all marshal attacks? I am sort or lost on this one.

Resolved some problem with cyberware, i'm starting my little campaign to CybHerOpunk 2021 Now, a little problem: one PC is an "Old man from Japan", and of course he know Martial Art. In this case, Tai Chi Chuan (missed some "accent"? ) So i've found some problem: 1) Weapon element, cost 1 point; so spending 1 point he can make ALL maneuver with this weapon? in FREd (pag 265-266) say "yes" but i found this a bit cheap way to make Enormous amount of damage with a weapon... 2) If he use a Katana (1½d6 HKA, or 5DC) he can add STR bonus up to 10 DC (3d6+1). If he combine this with CSL, Bonus from Maneuver or like, can he increase damage OVER 3d6+1, or this …

I'm searching in FAQ and FREd (not revised edition ...) but i have'nt found nothing about "Damaging Focus". I mean: FREd say that a "Breakable Focus" has a DEF equal to most powerful power's active points divided by five (or applicable defense power, what is bigger). But can i define "structure damage points" for Focus? Example: in my Cyberpunk conversion, i'm making Cyberlimbs like Focus (so it can be damaged, if removed none of the power inside will function, and like) because i build this cyberware as a VPP, i'll calculate DEF against VPP control cost. For example, cyberarm (VPP 40+20 control, plus bonus to strenght only to use this limb, plus no end naked…

My group is notoriously unreliable, so our current GM and I have decided to run a light pick-up game when some players are absent. We're thinking of doing a "dream team" sort of comic book/video game thing, where the players who show up get to play their favorite characters in an absurd ensemble cast--basically wish-fulfilling junk food, but it should be fun! Of course, it's also an excuse to run lots of silly combat so we can learn the system. We're all new to HERO, but we're using 5ER for a Star Wars game. My GM and I are pre-generating a bunch of characters so we can just pick up and run with it. I was working on Spider-Man just now, and while most of his powers a…

How much would you value a Disad for having multiple classes of minds? Like, a Plant Man or a Cybernetic Alien, who could be affected by Mental Powers that work with either of their two component classes of mind. That sentence construction is horribly awkward, but I'm not sure what there is to do about it.

Multiform as explained in the 5th edition is unclear on the concept of upgrading your multiple forms. ex. Tom is the base character. He has 2 other forms bought via Multiform: a bear and a bird. The bear was built at 300 pts and the bird at 100 pts. The cost to Tom for the Multiform power is: Bear (most expensive form): 300 pts/5 = 60 pts Bird: +5 pts for 2x # of forms: another 5 pts. Total: 65 pts Later, Tom wants to buy more powers for the bear, say another 40 pts. He also wants to add 40 pts to the bird. Okay, how does this work now regarding expediture of experience pts? You can't add more disadvantages so does Tom have to pay 40 experience pts for …

I just purchased the Hero System Equipment Guide and found something that made me very sad. I can understand re-using book art from one product to the next. But what I found today goes WELL beyond that and in my opinion is much worse. I have been a die-hard herophile since the BBB days and I have towed the line more then once to my friends. Pages 62 thru 126 of the HSEG is EXACTLY the same as pages 199 thru 263 of Dark Champions! Words, Art even Punctuation is the same. 64 pages or copied material. The reason I am upset about this is because I just spent $32 on DC and $25 on HSEG, and 1/3 of the later is a repeat of the same info in DC. I might not be as upset i…

Here's something that crossed my sleep deprived brain last night.. The character has a weapon, built using Focus. It's magical and tied to them, so as long as they weild it there are no "real weapon" attributes. But since it is a Focus it can be taken away from them (and all the powers it conveys goes) and weilded by someone else. The idea is however is that if the Owner does not weild the weapon it is for all intents a "real weapon" requiring a STR Min, Two-Hands and Real Weapon (upkeep). Is there an easy way to simulate that concept? is there a complicated way to simulate that? Or is this just something that falls into "Story"? How about a way to…

I have an alien arm enhancement-like weapon thats an OIF that forms around my arm...but its unbreakable and can only be broken by other alien type weaponry....and I also have Missle Deflection (Bullets & Shrapnel). Could I infact catch and/or deflect bullets with this arm and not cause harm to it or myself...unless infact alien weaponry were to fire said bullet?

Question to GMs. Do you force your players to specify the SFX of all their Mental Powers for description for those with Mental Awareness who see them? Or do you have a predeifined SFX of Mental Powers that is defined for the Campaign? Something else? - Christopher Mullins

Quick Opinion: HRRP, Visual Images Only, Transmit Only Would this work for a video camera that transmits everything the user sees to anyone within range who has HRRP to access the signal? Or maybe Sight Transmit, Affected as Radio Group?

Inspired by the various Mentalist threads floating around, I had a strange thought. Now, I've never seen it run it this way, and I doubt many have, but... ...if someone with Mental Awareness is in an area being scanned by Mind Scan, wouldn't they notice, and even perhaps have an idea of where the scan is coming from?

Do you know Jhonny Mnemonic? (film or novel) Okay, in my idea to converting CP2020 to Hero, i've encountered some difficulties to converting "Cerebro Memory", a.k.a. an Hard Disk in the Brain. I've thinked about a Clairesentience with No Range, ecc. but fact is: user CANNOT read information inside; So i can build a "cyber" that permits storage of data?

If i want buy a "no End" power with charges, i must add limitation "cost END"? for example: i want buy a Life Support with an "hoxygen tank": expanded breathing (no breathing), with a Fuel Charge Even if Life Support does not cost END to use, i cannot add "cost end" limitation, right? or i must add to convert LS in a "cost end" power so i can buy charge for it? Correction I've just read FAQ, and found an answer. I want to delete this post ('cause is inutile...) but i don't know i can delete... so, simply ignore this, thank you (and i apologize for this spamm.. )

Hello again in CybHerOpunk conversion i'm converting Skinweave, aka Armor-that-lies-behind-skin It convert directly to an rPD (IPE if not too powerful). But problem is that Skinweave are supposed thinner in sensible area (like thorat, or vitals, or like), and thus even not protective against Nerve Damage But Nerve Damage/Choke Hold are NND (defense are Resistent PD on vitals/neck). So i'm to insert a limitation to skinweave: "does not protect against Nerve Damage/Choke Hold". How much you think value this limitation? -½? or better -1?

I was curious, Aside from disallowing the STOP powers, Is it entirely feasable to Utilize the Sidekick Rules to run a campaign? Reason I am asking is that it's kind of steep to buy the 5th edition rules. Also how would you suggest I handle things like vehicles and bases since I dont have the rules I would need to build them.

While musing my brain around villian ideas to surprise my players with, this particular construct came into mind, and I thought I would share it. It is only really useful if you have a PC with a Drain or Transfer (it could get expensive though) - be warned though this is just a tactical kind of thing, no personality involved. Power D (enough to stop the main campaign level of drains ect). Aid, Trigger (when drained) any one characteristic (the one drained) only up to the amount drained., increaed max, delayed fade rate. Basically the character goes to drain someone and that person gets stronger by the amount he tried to drain. Could be a nasty surprise for a c…

Now that Pulp Hero's off my plate for a little while, I've finally had the time to update the Rules FAQ for the first time in a couple months. Fortunately it's growing more slowly now than in years past. If you have any questions or comments, please post them in the "Company Questions" thread of the same name.

(Related to the "is this too cheesy post") Supreme Serpent had an interesting idea and after thinking about it, I think it would have the effect I am looking to achieve. Here is his suggestion: If the second, then consider extra EB dice with a limitation, based on how many times target has been hit with the attack already. Something like: "Matter Erroder: 6d6 EB, AP. +2d6 EB AP if target has been hit by ME in last minute. +2d6 EB AP if target has been hit by ME twice in last minute. +2d6 EB AP if target has been hit by ME three times in last minute." etc. Again the concept is that the attack begins to chip away at a targets defense becoming more powerful ea…

An armor piercing EB w/a 2d6 ED drain linked to it. The idea is the drain simulates the EB chipping away at a target's defenses. I can see this quickly whittling down even the toughest defenses (those lacking power defense anyway). I thought about a transform (turning target's defenses into ablative defenses), but I did not want to make the effect permanent or require a special circumstance to repair the target's defenses. If you would allow it, would you limit it to Force Fields and Force Walls only or to all ED defenses? I realize the very nature of AP simulates this effect to a certain extend, but not to the level I am looking for. I am trying to stay away from RK…

Just an idle question re my purchases on RPGnow, that I've been meaning to ask for a while but not got around to. I see that copying and pasting the text of the HERO Resource Kit is allowed. But why isn't allowed in Sidekick?

I am new to the Hero System and have previously only made rather simple characters and powers while a learned the game. Recently I had the idea of making a character that conjured his weapon from nothing. I thought that this might be a summoning power but in the summoning section its says that it would be HKA. On top of the weapon being summoned I wanted it to have a cost in phases or turns, like a constant effort for creating it, as well as if it becomes parted from the character it instantly dissapears and is no longer in existance. I am not to sure on how to do this. I think it would probably be summon, but I dont know how exactly to put the constant effort on it …
