Mental Defense 1 2 3

I've noticed an odd inconsitency with rules concerning Mental Defense. Perhaps someone could shed some light on it for me. I deal with the Superhero Genre for my games, just to give a heads up for everyone on where my perspective is coming from. Characters can buy Ranged Killing Attack, and they automatically have Physical Defense. Characters can buy Energy Blast, and they automatically have Energy Defense. Characters can buy Ego Attack, but they don't automatically have Mental Defense. Why? Wouldn't it make more sense to have Mental Defense as a standard Figured Stat? The rules allow this as an Optional Rule, why not make it the default…

A 73 year old farmer in Kenya killed a leopard that was attacking him by reaching into it's mouth and pulling it's tounge out. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/kenya_leopard_dc;_ylt=A86.I2Rb5LlCCCwAmwoDW7oF;_ylu=X3oDMTBiMW04NW9mBHNlYwMlJVRPUCUl So how do you simulate this using the Hero combat rules? Called shot to the tounge? What kind of a OCV adjustment would that take? -10? -12?

I don't have my books handy but I need a question answered (searching brought up WAY too many threads to go through): What's the approximate number of metahumans in the Champions Universe? I'm relatively certain it was glossed over, if not detailed, in either Champions or CU. Also, if possible, how many in the US? Much appreciated, folks.

Since its only a half phase to stand in Hero, if you're opponent acts before you and has the same speed, there's really no reason to use most of the target falls manuvers in a One on One HTH fight. Or I'm I missing something?

Mental Powers 1 2 3 4 14

This is mostly for my friends, they have said that if you buy a 10pt adder(additional class of minds) for any mental power you can affect all things...not just minds...for instance we were playing a fantasy campaign and we were trying to find some skeletons that were near by, well someone had mind scan and asked if he could use it...they said its only for one class of minds(Human usually)...but he said that he purchased a 10pt adder and could effect "all" classes...they then agreed and said he could even mind scan a cart as a joke...however when i had said that if the skeletons were automatons they were immune becuase they had no mind...and apparently they all agreed i wa…

There was a thread debating Class of Minds, this is NOT that. This is instead, taking the rule as is, asking how people use it and how to apply some scenarios. First, in general...share! I'm just curious how it is being used and what people are doing with it. Also, second, how about addressing how you would use CoM to address a scenario I'm interested in... Let's take a sort of "average" modern supers game. Let's say you want to really have lots of Classes, the idea is that each Class is a very specific subset of minds, and may be any sort of SFX. The SFX are (for simplicity) either Uncommon, Common, or Very Common, but Very Common is still a sort of …

Another cyber-question (mmm i think i'm abusing this forums... better to post in other section? please tell me if this is wrong section...) I'm considering about "connection plug", i mean: plug used to connect some devices; in CP2020 conversion i'm making, are used to connect internal hardware (cyberware, ndDD) with external apparatus for example for connecting internal neuroprocessor (with weapon co-processor) with "smart" pistol or with a "smart" veicle (w veicular co-processor) etc How can i build this? i've thought was simply "special effect" for veicular, weapons, etc co-processor (builded like a SL bonus to attack, drive, etc) But i can build a si…

Interesting thought - if you made a Mind Control Attack (without Affects Real World), then go desolid - can you pay END to keep it from weakening over time?

Yes, we finally had our first HERO sesh yesterday, running a Fantasy HERO adventure. Hopefully I'll post a playtest review of HERO soon on rpg.net to go with my capsule review, but in the meantime, a question or two about CSLs. A character has a few 3-pt CSLs on a Power Framework that's defined as "Demonic Fire Sorcery". o If the CSLs are switched to DCV, what can that DCV bonus be applied to? Anything at all that is defined as "Demonic Fire Sorcery" (whether it's BOECV or some wierdo Power with UAA, whatever) and nothing else? Anything using any of the same Powers that are in the Framework (this seems a bit powerful to me)? Nothing at all? o If 4 such C…

The primary ability im having problem is to freeze time on pc's or other people. Any help I caould get would be extremley helpful. I only have the Fred book, not 5ER. One simple question: weight for armor in pag 334 of FREd (not revised), is for TOTAL DEF or MAJOR DEF? i mean: if i got an armor with 5PD/3ED it weight 14.0 (for DEF5), 40.0 (for DEF 8) or 21.0? (14.0 for PD5 plus 7.0 for ED3)

Just a quick question... There seem to be two mechanics for opposed actions. 1. Roll vs. your skill; the greater margin of success wins (very crudely put) 2. Roll your STR damage and the higher Normal Damage Body wins Why is (2) needed at all for heroic games? Why can't grabs be resolved using STR rolls and (1)? I know there's an answer as there's always a great deal of thought behind HERO rules (one of the reasons I'm going to be trying our first HERO campaign this Sunday). I am trying to simplify things as much as possible as we are all new to HERO, and I would ideally like to dispense with (2) completely, so - can someone explain why it's needed? …

Greetings Heroes! Yes, it is he of the annoying and simple-minded questions, yet-again. So I needed some defensive abilities for a hero in a darkish, action adventure game. He just happens to be a mentalist, and having a fondess for Lamont Cranston and other serial radio figures... I thought to myself: why not? But then came the problems. He's the only that seems "super-powered". His powers are not meant to be flashy, and he has the Psych Limit that he's reluctant to reveal his powers, even to his closest friends. So I'm looking at this two ways, right now: 1) Some sort of Invisibility, which is really my first choice, but the most difficult to …

So, 5RE lists a "Hammer" as having an A/R cost of 26/9, but my build right now comes to 19/9. Can someone help me? Right now, I'm building it as Hammer: HKA 1d6, +1 Increased STUN Multiple (+1/4) (19 Active Points), OAF (-1), STR Minimum: 10 (-1/2), Real Weapon (-1/4) Real Cost: 9 Points

I am thinking of creating a charater named Long John. His only power is the ability to elongate his body, except it is an all or nothing thing. Eather all his bodyparts elongate at the same time and rate, or none of them do. I was wondering, would this be Growth with a limitation No Extra Mass and No Knockback Resistance? If so, what would YOU give as values for thoes limitations?

Just checking (and don't think it's vital enough to bother Steve about on his thread. ) ... If I want to give a character Dive For Cover levels, would that just be a 2 point level, or a higher level with a limitation?

Question about "VPP is better tha Multipower" or "i can use a VPP or i must use Multi" is an old question. Answer is "depend on the case", of course But the case is: i want to build cyberware for my CP2020-to-Hero conversion, and i want to make cyber similar to original Interlock concept (of course are equipment, so real, buyable with euros not points, etc...) So, looking for Cyberoptics, Cyberhear or Cyberarms, i see that thsi items can accept multiple "add-on", but are limited (only 4 spaces, some optional use more than one space) For example, my cyberoptics has 4 free space for optional, but some optional (Times Square Plus, Video Imager, and like) use ore …

I'm building armor for CybHerOpunk, and Subdermal ones, and i've a question: For building an Helmet, location 3-5 or 4-5, how much limitation i can impose? I mean: Vest (location 10-13) is a -1¼ limitation; but for cap, helmet, coif and other "head gear" whose "activation roll" is under 8-, what limitation multiplier i must use? -2? (limitation of 8- activation roll)? or lower? (-2¼, -2½, etc.?) i've read armor section in both Fantasy Hero and Dark Champions but niether can help me...

I'm looking for some different, interesting ways to use change environment to cause minor but amusing combat effects, beyond the standard slick-floor and pea-soup-fog. What are some clever tricks you have used or seen used? I'm really more interested in humor value than serious combat effects. bigdamnhero "Smoke me a kipper, Skipper - I'll be back for breakfast!"

Guys, can I draw on your experience for some advice? About to run 1st ever HERO session on Sunday; Fantasy HERO heroic adventure in a low (ish) magic world that's Conan meets Discworld with a hint of Spelljammer thrown in. (I'm actually using Gygax's Necropolis as the site-based adventure material.) Anyway, I'd like to support a couple of mechanics VERY simply, and I'm wondering how best to do this. The mechanics are: - knockdown: we liked Exalted's pre-soak damage treatement of knockdown, and I'm wondering if there is really straightforward treatment of something similar in HERO without using hit locations (see below) - stunts: generally, when a player announc…

I've noticed some "surveillance equipment" are builded with Clairsentience. This is okay for me, 'cause is simple, straightforward and make sense (even if are muuuuch expensive...) But if i want to build a "textual only monitor", where are visualized some information from external equipment (message from radio and/or from a radar and/or exernal source), this is clairsentience to hearing group? to sight group? to radio group? Second question: a "rabbit hear" is a 2-3 feet log staff with a (micro) camera and phone inside, used to see and hear what are "behind the corner". I can build this wit Clairsentience too, but... Limited Range (½")? or No Range? or normal…

I am working up some characters for a game I am planning to run. I have the campaign complete and now only have the PC's to finish. I will also be teaching new players, hence my building the PC's. It has been a while since I actively played and it is actually the first time I have used multiform. The game, which is anime inspired, has the PC's being agents of an "organization" that is trying to stop an alien invasion. I'm using HC as the backdrop (sure wish there was a large city map). The aliens are infiltrating by replacing humans and the organization is hunting them down and killing them. Everything is completely covert and secret. Using a "suits" developed…

Once thought out of print and gone from our lives forever, copies of the HERO System Resource Kit have suddenly reappeared in the printers warehouse! That means those who were unable to get their hands on a printed copy now have the opportunity! And there was much rejoicing!
