Hi, Yet another "Help me for a name" thread, I'm really sorry. My hero is a Swedish young man who gained his powers during an avalanche. He escaped with death by miracle and developped supernatural powers based on ice, snow and cold. I imagined and drawn aside traditional names like Ice, Snow, Cold, and their derivatives in -man, -boy, super-, hyper-, etc. Any ideas for a name, knowing that I have a preference for a Scandinavian or German name (my campaign will take in Berlin) ? Thanks.

Making a new character and I have some questions. How does an RKA w/BoECV work? damage vs. what defenses Is mental defense considered Resistant? What about a character without any Mental Defense? are they hosed? Could you put AP on an RKA w/BoECV? How do you break out of an Entangle w/BoECV? Thank you very much in advance, -Grey

Okay I need to come up with a name for a Spider-man clone. He basicly has all his power except he doesn't have webbing or any of Spidey's web tricks. He also didn't get his powers from a spider. Can anyone help me with a name for him? None spider related please.

How would you handle a character's transformation where you need a focus to transform into and out of the character but don't need it any other time? I'm reading the first issue of Tales of the Champions and Giant [who is really a young boy like Billy Batson] touches the Giant harness to turn into Giant but then does not need to wear the harness or have it with him until apparently he needs to turn back into the boy. Now prior to 5E I would have just put a focus limitation on instant change [and then used instant change as the basis for the to/from transformation] but in 5E instant change is even more separated from being the basis of transformation then in 4E.…

Perhaps this is already covered in 5th Ed. Revised; all I have is 5th Ed. How would someone build a "Speak with Animals" power? Mind Link to animal class of minds?

I'm curious to see how people use the Multiple Attacker Bonus. In most of the heroic games I've run, I have allowed it pretty much as written (-1 OCV per additional attacker, down to 1/2 DCV) except I don't normally require a coordinated attack roll. (I make a subjective situational judgement as to how well the attacks are coordinated, generally giving the PCs the benefit of the doubt.) If I want PCs or NPCs to be able to wade through hordes of chumps without getting hit, there's always Def Maneuver II. But it seems like for superheroic games, that could give the "normals" too much of an advantage? bigdamnhero "Will someone get this walking carpet out o…

I'm not sure if this was an adventure in the champs universe, or if another company made it. If another company made it I would like to convert it to champs anyway for a one shot. The premise is that aliens attack earth, the superheroes rise up to fight them and get wiped out. To the last man. All that's left as earths defenders are the supervillains who must now rise up and fight the alien menace. I read a most beautifully detailed synopsis on this about 2 years ago and knew it was 'coming soon'. I googled numerous different words to no luck. If anyone can point me in the correct direction I'd be thrilled. Thanks

I'm trying to build a EB that gets more powerful the longer I "charge" it. I have couple of builds for it but none of them see right for it so I've decided to ask all you herophiles. So how would you build a power like this?

Hi all, Here's an interesting question that came up and I'm curious what you all think...ultimately I'll go by whatever my GM wants to do, because I'm just that kind of easygoing guy For Weapon Familiarity...is the Staffs selection under "Common Martial Arts Melee Weapons" the same as the Staffs selection under the "Uncommon Melee Weapons" section? The first one you can buy as a group and get Staffs for free...the second requires you to purchase Staffs individually. It seems silly if you are going to take all Martial Arts Melee weapons that you'd have to take Staffs under Uncommon Melee Weapons as well to cover ALL staffs you might fight with (sticks, j…

Alright I'm stuck at work with no FREd or any other HERO book to figure this out and it's going to drive me nuts thinking about it. If I build a character with a Physical Limitation Disad that would affect movement capabilities (e.g. Parapalegic so his Running\Leaping are 0.) Do I apply the points I get from dropping those down to 0 against my Disad total or do they add to my general points pool?

Hey all, I just wanted to get your opinions on why I should play HERO over other similar games, such as the ACTION system and FUZION. What are the differences and how well supported is HERO. How complicated is HERO and is it truly genre transferable? I’m kind of in a RPG crisis. I cannot seem to find a RPG that suits me. D&D has burnt me out and traveler is just too bland for me. I’ve downloaded the FUZION plug in Light Speed and I’m very impressed. Does HERO have similar sci fi settings? Thanks for your input. -Ian

One of the PC's in the campaign I'm running has the "wealthy" perk... however, one of the rules in the 5th Edition (non revised) rulebook states that in superheroic campaigns, characters must pay character points for any equipment they wish to buy. The PC (who is a martial artist batman-esque type of hero) wants to buy some swinglines and a utility belt and possibly a motorcyle as well - but doesn't have enough CPs at this time. The question he keeps asking me is this: "If I'm rich and well connected to suppliers and whatnot, what's actually *STOPPING* me from buying all this stuff?" I realize the CP totals are for game balance, but what good is having wealth if you…

Heroes! I want to make a character who has a Follower. The Follower is a pixie who is Invisible to all senses and Desolid to everyone, but only the character can see and hear her. I’m wondering how to design this. Here are some ideas. 1: The character buys Mind Link with the pixie with a Limition ‘works as normal sight and hearing'. Seeing and hearing the pixie is just SFX of the power. 2: Character buys Detect: Pixie Follower with Discriminatory and define it as sight and hearing based sense. What do you think? Cheers!

We need some clarification here, seems simple enough, but causing a bit of confusion. I've searched for answers, but to no avail. So here are the points of this email for future searchers. ( nonrecoverable charges, charges not recoverable ) Charges can be either ... an advantage (lots of them, no end cost) ... a disadvantage (only a few per day) ... a major disad (only a few, and non-recoverable) Heroic Campaign: Buy a wand with no recover charges, it runs out, buy another wand with your funds no character point problems. How does this balance out in a heroic campaign? Superhero campaign: pay character points for wand, it runs out of non…

1. A powered armor suit that is bigger than a normal person, and so effectively has "Inherent, Always On" Growth. Here are my ideas for how to do this: buy Growth with 0 END, Persistent, Inherent, Always On, OIHID (probably valuing Always On as -0 in this case, since it isn't really limiting); OR buy the size package from the book, putting "OIHID" on it, and reduce/drop the Physical Limitation, since the character can always get out of the armor and effectively remove the disadvantage; OR just do it as a Multiform, buying the size package in the big form. What do you think? Which of these ways feels right, or do you have a better way to buid this? 2. A darkness …

Greetings, I have a question about the proper way to build a power. In the community's infinite wisdom, which approach, if any or both, is a valid construct. Build #1 battallion: Hand-To-Hand Attack +8d6, Damage Shield (Offensive; +3/4), Continuous (+1) (110 Active Points); Hand-To-Hand Attack (-1/2), Activation Roll 14- (-1/2), OIF (-1/2) Build #2 Battallion 2: (Total: 70 Active Cost, 65 Real Cost) Damage Shield (Offensive; +3/4) for up to 75 Active Points of Strength (56 Active Points) (Real Cost: 56) plus Hand-To-Hand Attack +1d6, Damage Shield (Offensive; +3/4), Continuous (+1) (14 Active Points); Hand-To-Hand Attack (-1/2) (Real Cost: 9) I…

Chipware socket are micro interface port (surgically implanted in the body) wich can hold up to 10 chip, where chip are used primarily to "expande" character's skill Chips are builded like 3-7 point skill (a basic skill roll, or a skill with one or 2 level added), with IIF and Cyberware (-½) limitation. (3/5/7 AcP, 1/2/3 Real) But question is: how can build this chipware socket? Searching a cyber-conversion posted here by Lord Liaden i see: Chipware Socket to use Chips: 1 point per Socket/ Chip that can be used (variable special effect) AcP: 1/Real: 1 Question is: 1) i cannot understand... he builded socket like a variable special effect? 2) is'n…

Relative Strength of Armor

Just off the top of your head, what approximate level of Armor, either PD or ED, would completely protect the thusly Armored character from a specific category of weapon? ...Small Pistols ...Medium Pistols ...Heavy Pistols/ Low-Powered Longarms ...High-Powered Longarms ...Firearms Above .50 Caliber ...High-Velocity, Large-Caliber Weapons ...Big Guns ...Big F. Guns What I mean is, if I purchase Armor (10 PD), would that protect me from even the luckiest Small Pistols shots? Would Armor (15 PD) protect me from even the luckiest Medium Pistol shots? How much Armor is needed to protect me from a Big F. Gun shot completely? It's all about the rel…

Velocity Discrepancies 1 2

Now, before I get going, I must mention that I have had problems with the SPD/ Movement/ Velocity/ Relative Velocity "Multiverse" before, but I have come to terms with those specific discrepancies, and decided to use the system as-is, as it appears in HERO 5ER. However, I have several problems which I could resolve all on my own, but for which I would greatly appreciate HEROphile feedback. 1.) VEHICLES Let's say we have two automobiles -- say, a Corvette and an Eclipse, just to give an example. The Corvette and the Eclipse have approximately the same top speeds. However, the Corvette is more maneuverable. This means the Corevette needs 40" Running, SPD 5…

The mechanical definition of Casual STR, while it works out, in numbers anyway, for many situations, is clearly incorrect. A character with 100 STR has a Casual STR rated at ~0.1% of his full STR, while a character with 10 STR has a Casual STR which is 50% of his full STR. If you look at how much can be lifted/moved, as STR approaches 0, Casual STR becomes approximately the same as full STR. What, then, is Casual Strength? What are real-world examples of actions that approach the limit of what Casual STR can do?

ok, so I'm building a large draconic character as a Major NPC in an upcoming game, in dragon/ketera form he is 24 feet tall (7.31m) and 36 feet long (10.9m) including tail. He's not huge in build since he's a flying critter. He also has massive wings. now...my question for you is, does this creature qualify as a gigantic, gargantuan, or colossaul creature? I'm having a really hard time deciding and for some reason my brain just doesn't feel like figuring it out. Thnx for the help

Interesting question in the Rules Questions: Can I suggest this: if the strength of the thing moving is sufficient to demolish the barrier there is no attenuation of velocity. If not then start with the DEF + BODY, deduct the number of DC you got from STRENGTH. This leaves a 'velocity factor' - the amount of damage required from the velocity to break through over and above strength. Multiply that by 3" to get the amount of velocity actually needed to contribute that amount of damage, and that is what was used to break through. You are doing the move through calculation in reverse, in effect. In answer to the question in the post, it there…
