Re: from little plot seeds, mighty games do grow: Share you ideas!

Worthy of being bumped. Anyone else with ideas? Ideas to share? Ideas to rip-off? Oh, ok, I'll give one:

1) For those of you who have had/used "The Great Supervillain Contest", I recently resurrected it and was able to do TGSV 2.0. The main villain had been killed off years ago. However, heroes who had previously been in the original GSVC heard that a new contest had started. Menton was behind it because he wanted to unlock the Eye of Azog's power.

Yes, old modules can be re-used and above is one way of doing it.

2) Thorn decides he's lonely of being the only plant-man and adds a formula to the water that will change everyone in the city into plant people also.

Culling the deck.

It all starts out like your typical "Eurostar attacking the Champions" event, so Dr. Silverback and Kinetik go help. However, VIPER decides that this is the opportunity they've been waiting for to relaunch the VIPER-EUROSTAR War and they start "helping" the Champions out. And by the way, this is when VIPER decides to have all nests wreak havoc all over the world, with specific European and African nests actually making grabs for power in certain areas. One of these areas happens to belong to Warlord and thus the war is escalated. UNTIL uses UNITY and its own agents as much as possible to repel both sides. Dr. Destroyer sees this as potential his "Plan B" grab for power and announces that he's capable of halting these 'skirmishes' for control of a continent. France agrees. DEMON, however realizes that with all the death and destruction, necromantic power is seeping away from them if they don't go out and harvest it. Takofanes brokes no rival and uses this time to eliminate DEMON and every other mystic organization that rears its head. The Crowns of Krim stalk Takofanes in hopes of attacking when he is least capable of defending him from them. Menton mind controls small nations or us military bases to go to war against PSI who is making moves to control key politicians. Finally, Foxbat convinces Blue Jay that he is the last man on Earth she'll ever see moments after the alien invasion strikes and interrupts Istvatha V'han's interdimensional conquest on behalf of her beloved, Tyrannon.

So the greatest hero of the new age will be BlueFoxJayBat?

Perhaps the child will name himself after his mother's color and his father's favorite weapon. He shall call himself:

Blue Balls.

Sorry, but it's funny.:)

Takofanes, The Undying Lord

(This concept resulted in a very fun plotline in my own game recently, so I thought I would share it.)

Dark Renaissance: For years Takofanes has appeared suddenly and without warning, at seemingly random locations, causing death and destruction for no apparent reason before being driven off by superheroes. However, the Archlich has in fact been working to a plan all along; his rampages have actually been rituals and sacrifices laying the groundwork for his grandest spell ever.

The Undying Lord appears at the PCs' home city. The heroes confront him to try to stop his latest rampage, when suddenly everything around them changes. Their city, the people they know, in fact the whole world has been reshaped into analogues from the long-dead Turakian Age. The heroes quickly learn that they are the only ones who remember the world the way it was - perhaps because they were close to Takofanes when the change occurred. Moreover, the Ravager of Men now rules this new Turakian Earth as he did the original.

Can the heroes undo the spell and restore their familiar world? Will they have to penetrate Takofanes' recreated citadel far to the north, and face the Undying Lord himself at the seat of his power?

(One interesting option would be to change the PCs themselves into their Turakian analogues. For example, the team's gadgeteer could be reshaped as a Dwarf, while the mentalist might find himself in the body of a Migdalar. The GM could elect to let the PCs keep their powers while just changing their appearance and SFX to Turakian equivalents; or he might choose to make them comparable but less powerful Heroic-level characters.) :eg:

[Note: Yes, this idea was inspired by Marvel Comics' "Kulan Gath" character. Maybe not original, but IMHO it still works. And it lets you get more use out of your FH sourcebooks.] ;)

Re: from little plot seeds, mighty games do grow: Share you ideas!

[True background information: Modern large ground-based astronomical telescopes usually have two of what are called "Naismith platforms". The telescope has an alt-az mount (a pivot that tips the 'scope up and down is the altitude axis; then that structure is on a turntable that is the azimuth axis), and a flippable mirror in the center of the 'scope diverts the light through either of the two altitude bearings, which are open rings with smaller bearings on the ring surfaces. The Naismith platforms are just chunks of floor, mounted outside the telescope at the altitude pivot. That way, the light comes out from the telescope in a nice horizontally-directed beam that you can feed into an instrument sitting on the platform.]

Plot seed:

Ambitious observatory director Dr Smith got money from a poorly-identified charitable foundation to build the world's largest telescope, which has been completed and commissioned. Though it was never officially announced, a condition placed by the contributor is that one of the telescope's Naismith platform is premanently dedicated to the equipment supplied by the mysterious foundation, and they also get 25% of the time on the telescope. (Standard scientific instruments are mounted at the other platform, and there's no mystery at all about those or the people using them.)

What's on that platform? It's not some rich folks and an eyepiece, that's for sure. It's not even clear whether they are using it to observe; you can shoot beams out a telescope -- which has pointing accuracy unmatched by any other human technology -- simply by pointing the beam out the way the light came in.

Test-bed for anti-satellite weapons? Uplink for orbital mind control lasers? Downlink for instructions from Hastur (last known whereabouts: Aldebaran)? What's there? And who is the mystery foundation that gave $300 million for the telescope, and why is it so hard to find out who they are?

Not picking fault here, Lord L, but isn't there a similar idea in Arcane Adversaries, in which Takky lets the Devil's Advocates assemble everything needed to pull the spell off -- and then hijacks it to turn time back to the Turakian Age?

It's still a fun idea, though -- and oh yes, welcome back to the board.:)

_The Origin_ One or more of the heroes is inside a bank at a very busy time. A fit young man in construction garb snaps his cell phone shut and moves to a corner, distracted. Suddenly he begins to moan, then his body quivers and writhes-- his clothes tear apart as he 'hulks out', roaring and yelling at everyone to get out of the bank. He gets bigger and more muscular, layers of bone tear through his flesh and spread into armored plates; bony claws grow from his fingers; his teeth become enormous tusk-like fangs.......

I've used variations on this in the past for intro sequences with new players. The key here is to play up the panic and keep the players guessing. They are witnessing the first manifestation of this man's powers; he is as scared as the people in the bank. How will the heroes react? Attack, and thus create a new villain (there us a news crew filming a ceremony across the street. The panic will attract them)? Try to help him and gain a one-day ally? The way he is handled in this scenario should directly affect how he uses his powers from this day on.

Firewing: Teach Us, Master!

Firewing finds himself sought out by a growing group of young, post-Iron Age supers - not as a foe, but as a mentor. After all, he's very powerful and charismatic, (sort of) honourable and not compromised by political bias or outmoded cultural thinking, and misunderstood adolescents identify with him; emerging wannabe-superwarriors consider him a better role model than the so-called heroes, and they implore him to help train them to be worthy warriors in the mold of the Malvan gladiatorial tradition. They've even built a hidden arena/training facility. How will Ariax Thone react to a mob of naive, battle-eager kids who idolize him? If he agrees to teach them about honour, victory and the tactics of single combat, will he end up unleashing a plague of Malvan-trained supervillains - or will teaching others teach him something about himself? Best used in Teen Champions campaigns.

Delusion

Just as teenager Lucy Llewellyn's telepathic powers were developing, her parents were killed in a car accident. She was in touch with them as they died, and wound up in a mental institution. She's much better now, but as an untrained receptive telepath, she picks up the personality traits of the people around her. As she's in a mental institution, this means she always tests "not sane enough to be released" -- especially since she's managed to hide her telepathy until now. The facility has just discovered that she is a telepath and cannot, by their charter, keep a metahuman patient. In fact, the only state run facility capable of handling a metahuman psychiatric patient would be the wing of the Insitiute for the Criminally Insane that handles supercriminals...

Do the PCs allow her to be transferred (and risk her picking up supervillain traits)? Do they try to get her released? How do you find a foster home for a barely-stable telepathic minor?

I later turned the NPC in this seed to a regular PC with a few changes to make her playable.

Five Deadly Venoms

"Five Deadly Venoms. The Centipede, The Snake, The Scorpion, The Lizard, and The Toad are a truly invincible force." Your PCs find paperwork that starts off with these two sentences. After reading through the information, they easily discover that "The Snake" is Taipan. Now the question arises: Who are the other four? Are they clones? Are they similar? Do they all have 12 SPEED? Will the four try to rescue Taipan?

Foxbat - How the Foxbat Stole St.Patrick's Day

Foxbat's new master plan involves procuring a large quantity of chromatic-absorptive chemical gas and successfully releasing it (using the Foxbatblimp) into the stratosphere by March 16. The gas will interfere with the photochromatic spectrum at a specific wavelength, thus removing the colour green from everywhere. Foxbat can then demand an enormous ransom from the people of Earth who wish to celebrate the Wearing of the Green on St. Paddy's Day. Foxbat hasn't really thought through other consequences of banishing 'greenness' from the world, which may include:

- catastrophic damage to Earth's biospere due to inhibited photosynthesis, imperiling the existence of life on the planet

- a grey Grond who think's he's a mob enforcer

Can the PC's prevent him from succeeding or, failing that, convince him to release the counteragent?

Anyone still taking up challenges?

Okey dokey arty chokey how's this for starters

Another CHS adventure;

THE PIED UN-PIPER

In the fairy tale The Pied PIPER rid hamlin of rats. In Med city[or any campaign city that include a teen superteam], a teen gadgeteer named the Pied UnPiper rid the city of human rats[including supervillians in the campaign], but when he does'nt get paid, his unearthly music brings trouble for Dreamstar and the PCs by causing all sorts of problems. can the PCs save the city by calming down this musical misfit or will Med city fall into musical Chaos?:dyn

MY CLAIM TO FAME!!In her secret Identity Dreamstar is approached by Sapphire's agent who has heard her duet with the latino champion and wants to represent her in a new career: as a super teen idol/popstar! he offers her the usual perks: money ,fame, and adolation of millions plus a recording contract.

There's just one hitch, she has to consent to a image change from a Magic girl to a super sexy seductress to match Sapphire's image:in other words become a Saphire reflection.

Considering that she wants to keep her image intact will she do it or reject the agent's offer?

Asylums into Condos

Not sure what genre to put this ... it's the wrong era for pulp (the asylums were still going strong in the pulp era), though it shares some flavor with it ... but imagine the buildings and grounds of old institutions like these retaining some haunting ... or psychic charge ... or karmic load ... or something ... from their old, not-very-happy histories.

Re: from little plot seeds, mighty games do grow: Share you ideas!

Definitely a worthy story arc, Weldun. Kudos on synthesizing previous plot elements - the idea of following up on earlier concepts never occured to me. :o

And I like the idea of bringing back the challenges. So to take up the gauntlet:

Esper

Unimind if I cut in? Esper's "Unimind Manifestation" achieves a stable physical form of its own, with all of the original Esper's powers. Now there are two Espers working together! However, the Unimind version has less of Esper's human personality, and more of the alien swarm's, leading it to pursue a far more deliberate, organized, and ruthless plan for world domination.

Can the PCs unravel the combined Espers' plans? Can they persuade the more human Esper to aid them to thwart her alien doppleganger?

She'll breed. You'll die. The master geneticist Teleios captures Esper and discovers the alien swarm infesting her. He succeeds in removing some of the alien motes from her body and restoring their full capabilities, including breeding more motes to take over other beings. However, the swarm proves more clever than Teleios anticipated, and escapes his control. Now the swarm is free to pursue its original plan: take control of all sentient life on Earth!

To contain this threat the PCs may have to cooperate with both Esper and Teleios. What price will they demand for their help?

Movin' on up. For his own amusement Menton decides to force himself upon Esper, a known misandronist. Esper's own mental powers prove no match for the mightiest psionic in the world. But when Menton insinuates himself into Esper's mind and body, the alien swarm in her, sensing his tremendous power, passes into and bonds with Menton, adding their strength to his own. Now terrifyingly powerful and more driven than ever to rule the Earth, Menton appears unstoppable.

The woman who was once Esper comes to the PCs, claiming that she can help them stop Menton. But is she sincere, or does she seek to reclaim the aliens for herself, perhaps with Menton's power as a bonus?

As for a challenge, to anyone owning Vibora Bay, how about something for Dr. Ka?

Thank you, I'm definitely going to use the arc in my campaign. The more I think about it, the more I get chills. The difficulty would be in deciding... (NEW Thread!)

Thank you kindly, Lord Liaden. One of my PCs has taken her as a hunted, and this gives me some ideas. He's also hunted by Zerstoiten himself, but that's another story.

Never even heard of the book, but then again, books don't really get advertised well here, Down-under.

Re: from little plot seeds, mighty games do grow: Share you ideas!

As for a challenge, to anyone owning Vibora Bay, how about something for Dr. Ka?

Dr. Ka

To the Seventh Ka Ancient Egyptians believed there were not one, but seven spirits within a man. Perhaps that was true, for in a great astral battle, Dr. Ka's spirit self, his 'ka' is nearly destroyed, but rather than oblivion, it is split. Each major section of Dr. Ka's soul is now made manifest. Most of them are noble, but some are not so nice, and at least one is insane. The insane aspect, the one scarred and distrusting beyond the point of reason seeks to become a god itself, to better 'save' the citizens of Vibora Bay from other divinities. The only way to stop it is to capture each of the spirits, and force them together, and pray the 'best ka wins'. But how do you capture seven souls, especially when each has so much power?

The Auction One (or more) PCs are attending an Auction of rare antiquities, and in the crowd they see Khalid Harris (aka Dr. Ka). Bidding goes along nicely all around, with this or that trinket being sold, when a seemingly unimpressive stone tablet has its turn. It soon becomes apparent that Khalid is determined to be top bidder, but a beautiful woman in a leopard skin fur lined coat is out matching him. If one of the PCs is better than Well Off, and he uses his wealth to purchase the item, Dr. Ka will seemed relieved that it did not go to the woman. Otherwise, the tablet is lost to this woman, and Dr. Ka almost forgets himself in public, quite unlike the man, saying it CAN NOT go to her. Security will drag him away, while he warns, "Sekhmet must not be freed from the covenant! She must not be free to slaughter again." The beautiful woman in spotted fur just smiles back over her should at him with fiery eyes, and walks away with her prize. PCs with KS: Mythology will probably realize that if the Doc is right about the woman, this was a 'bad thing'.

Is the Doctor In? One of Dr. Ka's allies or friends comes to the PCs with a favor. Dr. Ka hasn't come out of his domain in weeks now, and a mystic ward seems to be blocking the manor keeping all others out. His friend suspects foul play, and says he can lower the wards briefly so the PCs can rush in and see if Dr. Ka needs help. Of course, mystical security inside may bring wonders too terrible to bear, and the heroes could find themselves fighting Egyptian monsters and traps that would do Hollywood proud. And what if this 'friend' is just using them for something?

Challenge: The Cirque Sinister (also found in Vibora Bay)
