Then we would have two Marvel villains with Ghost in their names whose one power is phasing.

Yes, I considered that, and if handled just that way it could be a distraction. But there are a few other ways to approach the character. First, several Marvel characters haven't even used their code names in the movies. Second, this incarnation of the Red Ghost could have more or different powers. Third, he'd be made more distinctive by emphasizing his super apes. Fourth, since the MCU has shown a desire to draw from its own continuity, the precedent of the Red Ghost could have been the instigation for the research that accidentally created the modern Ghost.

Red Ghost and a moon shot would also allow Doom to be in the background, funding and/or feeding knowledge, in the hopes of ensuring Reed does not get there first.

Well, and a private effort to fly to the moon is completely reasonable and topical today, given a comic book setting where money is no issue (how many times the GNP of the United States did Tony spend on Iron Man suits in IM3?  How many fifty trillion-dollar flying aircraft carriers did SHIELD have?)

If you set it today, a moon shot is pretty small potatoes in the MCU.  There's enough alien crap laying around that a smart high school kid should be able to build a moon rocket.

Yeah, this is a blatant attempt to push Endgame past Avatar.

Which is really kinda silly since total box office results should be adjusted for inflation, and before anyone tries to claim bragging rights to the top spot all-time, they have a little movie called Gone With the Wind to contend with.
