The sarcasm in that title is well warranted. Who would be startled by that at this point? The man's been ravingly delusional for years at least.

Although the implication that Trump's accepting prognostications about his future from the "MyPillow guy," Mike Lindell, does sound like even further deterioration.

Not at all.  The Reagans docu-series on Showtime illustrates a good number of parallels between Reagan and Trump.  Both ran on platforms appealing to right-wing voters.  Both ran on platforms vowing to "Make America Great Again"--Reagan had that slogan long before Trump took it for his own.  Both of them had epidemics of new diseases with which to deal--AIDS for Reagan, COVID-19 for Trump.  Both chose to deal with those diseases by basically ignoring them.

The biggest difference between the Reagans and the Trumps is, perhaps, in the First Ladies.  Nancy Reagan wielded a tremendous measure of influence with Ronald, especially after he was shot by John Hinckley.  Melania Trump, to my knowledge, wields little to no influence at all over Trump; she's basically just there to look pretty, and she doesn't even do that well.

The Reagans should be available online or on your On Demand service--check it out if you haven't already.

Friends who claim to know more about Reagan than I do add another difference: Whatever his politics, Reagan liked people, or at least a lot of people. He didn't live in a Trumpian world of fear, calculated cruelty and vindictive rage. (Cannot so vouch for some of the people around him.)

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9653491/USA-Today-fights-FBI-subpoena-asking-hand-readers-information.html

The FBI has asked USA Today for the IP addresses and phone numbers of everyone who read one of its articles during a 35-minute period in February as part of an ongoing child porn probe, in what the publisher is calling a violation of the First Amendment.

On February 2, FBI agents Daniel Alfin and Laura Schwartzenberger were killed and three others were wounded when 55-year-old David Huber started shooting as they approached his apartment in Fort Lauderdale shortly after 6am.

He was suspected of possessing child porn, but the FBI has never revealed why. After killing the agents, he took his own life.

.

.

.

So I guess according to the FBI, if you click on a story about a child pornographer shooting FBI agents, that means you're either a child pornographer or you want to kill federal agents.

His actions and policies spoke louder than words and they weren't really implying he liked a lot of people....

Another consideration with Reagan was that Jimmy Carter was profoundly unpopular when the 1980 election rolled around. Not as unpopular as Gerald Ford had been in 1976, of course; Ford's pardon of Richard Nixon, while probably necessary for the country to move on, pretty much doomed his chances of getting re-elected. But Carter, a genuinely good and decent man (and perhaps the only such Chief Executive in my lifetime) was not an effective political leader. That he would lose to the fiery, charismatic former Hollywood star was pretty much a foregone conclusion as soon as Reagan won the GOP nomination.

And did the country pay a heavy price for it...

Jimmy Carter has been called the best ex-President the United States ever had. He wasn't well suited to managing the myriad dilemmas a POTUS faces, but in since using the profile and contacts he gained thereby to promote and direct humanitarian causes, Jimmy found his true calling.

Reagan was personally likable as well. I find the majority of his policies antithetical to my belief system, but he was I believe genuine in his love of patriotism and belief in his country. He thought he was going the right thing, and conveyed that. Obviously he engaged in very dark political shenanigans, including but not limited to Iran-Contra and some pretty offensive race baiting. I don’t excuse him by saying “show me a POTUS who didn’t”.

Cynicism aside, he did oversee a period with some significant outcomes during his term. I’d put him in the middle range of presidents, with a lot of luck based on timing (fall of the Soviet Union for example) and really really effective public relations.

I don’t despise him, and compared to the modern iteration of the Trumpian GOP he’s practically a Democrat. There’s always opportunities to criticize past administrations, just goes with the job. Definitely a mixed bag.

I remember a comparison between Reagan and his VP, George H.W. Bush, that Bush was everything Reagan pretended to be. Reagan wanted to be accepted in high society, but Bush was born into old money. Reagan portrayed a star athlete in movies, Bush was captain of his college softball team. Reagan played a movie war hero, while Bush was a decorated combat officer. Reagan played a cowboy, Bush owned and ran a working ranch in Texas. Reagan was pro-big-business, Bush was a successful oil tycoon.

Reagan resembles Trump in that they both sold the public an image of who they want to be seen as. Reagan was a lot more polished at it than Trump, and at least appeared to be a lot less self-serving about it.

The comparisons between H.W. and W. were even better.  W. was the drunken black sheep of his old money family.  W. was a cheerleader at Yale, where he earned "gentleman's Cs".  W. spent Vietnam defending Texas from the Mexican Air Force and may or may not have deserted anyway.  W. spent time mountain biking on his ranch.  W.'s oil ventures failed, though somehow this didn't affect his personal finances at all.

And yet, somehow, Trump was worse.

After his speech for the North Carolina GOP, it's official: Trump is on the no-fly list.

There is some serious speculation that it looks that way not because his pants are on backwards, but because his adult diapers get bulky when full.  Ladies and gentlemen, I give you U.S. politics in 2021.

He's demonstrated incontinence of the mouth more times than I can count. It wouldn't surprise me at all to learn that he has the other kind, too.

If Donald Trump has incontinence issues, I neither mock nor condemn him for that. I only mock and condemn him for his moral attributes. We cannot always control our bodies. We can always control our morals. No matter what culture we are born into or how twisted our upbringing, we can choose whether to be kind or cruel, generous or greedy, loyal or treacherous, modest or proud. I have seen this in my own friends. People suffering utter deprivation or hemmed in by horror have behaved well. Donald Trump, blessed with every social and material advantage, has not.

(Though if Trump is addicted to adderall, that probably falls under morals. I doubt that there's a medical need or that anyone held a gun to his head to make him take the drug.)

It's prescribed for ADHD, which is (to me) the leading 'thing' I'd think he has.

Then again adderall abuse is not great, and long term consequences of overuse for that class of stimulants can apparently include mania and paranoia?  I might be wrong on this.

Not long term use, high dose use
