Not familiar enough with the vehicle creation rules, so I'll ask here. I'm looking into creating Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for my modern combat hack of Hero System. How would one designate the fact that the UAV is remotely controlled? How to give different capabilities to the vehicle, like acting as a forward observers tool to direct precision artillery strikes against point targets? Then there's this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M712_Copperhead Cannon launched smart bomb. Build the bomb as a vehicle with onboard computer? Hoping there are some military buffs with Hero knowledge here

I'm thinking Hero with miniatures for modern combat. Some of the stuff I've come up with for now, for miniatures skirmish combat using the Hero system rules: Deployment movement. Characters move up to their normal movement allowances during pre-combat maneuvering. Turn length is variable, and actions can be taken normally using the Hero system turn sequence. Characters can use skills normally without combat penalties (defusing an IED for example), or establishing a overwatch when using sniper rifles or crew-served weapons. Combat movement. Modern soldiers have to move in full kit during combat, under fire and using whatever cover they can find. Thus characters mov…

What kind of bonuses would these devices give to a weapon? I was thinking increased range modifier (+2 for bipod, +4 tripod) and recoil compensation for fully automatic fire versus recoil penalties only. Say +2 OCV versus recoil for bipod, and +5 compensation for tripod.

After watching "Gotham" and Nolan's take on Batman, I'm struck by how an evolution of the criminal element takes place in Gotham City, the Old Guard of mafioso types giving way to the masked "freak" types. Call it the "Gotham Effect." It's kind of like an evolutionary event going on, or maybe a principle of "Conservation of Evil" in a way. The evil is more spread out and diluted before masked vigilantes start thinning their ranks, but then a new form of evil rises in its place, much fewer in number but more capable. Instead of Don Generico and his made men, there's now a handful of costumed freaks to combat the heroes. Has anyone else encountered the Gotham Effect…

Hi guys. I'm trying to set up a spy game in Dark Champions. For anyone who has tried this, what was the premise of your game? I was thinking of using MI6 and just using the James Bond model: agents are brought in and briefed and then are sent out. But the problem is that I might want an American angle. Anyone have thoughts on this?

So, I've been reading on the 18th century, and I started thinking about weapons of the era. I watched a couple of videos on muskets and I gleaned some useful information. Firstly, the damage. A Brown Bess for example is said to shoot a load of .75 caliber ball with the amount of powder equaling a 11 gauge shotgun. That would round either way to 10 gauge or 12 gauge shotgun shooting solid slugs. I think a safe compromise in damage is about 3d6 of Killing damage. A pistol .51 caliber ball would do maybe 2d6 Killing damage. The loading time. I saw a video of a guy shooting 3 rounds off a Brown Bess in 46 seconds. British soldiers were said to have fired at 3 rounds p…

Brainz. . . Lemme see--I'll need one of these--and one of these--and maybe two of these-- C'mon, guys! I can't take 'em alone! And see if you can reach Emily Kinney--I understand she's available now.

I had this notion strike me while watching "Burn Notice" recently. It is the ability to take on and dispose of Deep Covers as needed for a mission. Disposable Covers: Variable Power Pool, 2 base + 2 control cost, No Skill Roll Required (+1) (4 Active Points); Only For Deep Covers (-1). Real Cost: 3 points. While it can't be changed in the middle of combat, a person with this ability only needs to retrieve prepared documents (such as passports) or use Contacts to activate their next cover, and then they're good to go. If they might need to be able to change covers more quickly, this optional version allows up to three Deep Covers available at a time. More …

It seemed to work well for Richard Logue in the Star Hero forums, and I've seen it work in RPG.net, so why not here? We're at least as creative as those guys! Anyway, the idea is, imagine a hotel stocked with weird characters. They should be strange in a Twin Peaks/X-Files kind of way - they can be possibly vaguely slightly mystical (but it should never be obviously magic), or they could be vaguely slightly high-tech (in a conspiracy sort of easily-mistaken-for-something-else way), or whatever you like. The only requirement should be that they are weird characters easily captured in a few sentences. You don't have to give them names - giving them titles such as, er, …

Based on forum activity I have noticed a marked decline in the number of people that seem to be playing the Dark Champions genre. I have a hard time believing that people have all of a sudden lost their appetite for Guns and Violence. Is this due to Herogames' lack of support for the genre or some other reason that I am not seeing? My group has been playing a Dark Champions campaign for nearly six years now and it is the most successful game we have ever had. Speaking of support for Dark Champions, is there any plan to revive the genre? Perhaps renaming it "Action Hero" or something else and updating the genre book and perhaps the Hudson City sourcebook? I…

How much Strength and Endurance would such a character need to carry a decent combat kit (fifty pounds) and haul a full-sized person (one-hundred and eighty pounds, clothes only) for a mile and only end up moderately exhausted?

The PCs in a game of mine will soon be facing a werewolf in combat. They don't have any silver weaponry on themselves at the moment, but will come across an abandoned house moderately stocked with a variety of supplies. Among these supplies will (hopefully) be enough loose materials that give them just enough to work with if they so choose to forge weapons appropriate for the challenge. I do, however, have some issues to deal with if I want the process of construction to be reasonably realistic. 1. Can silver utensils be pure enough to be considered genuine silver? 2. What kind of flammable material or fuel would be in a house that works for the purposes of meltin…

Hi all, I hope someone in this forum can help shed a little light on my question. If this is not the correct forum for this question I apologize in advance. I am new to the superhero RPG genre and I have a question regarding villains in these RPG's. How do GM's handle the death or non death of these major villains in a superhero RPG. Are they killed off regularly? In comic books the major villains never die, is that the way things are supposed to be run in a superhero RPG. Lex Luthor, the Joker, etc... still live to wreak havoc in the real comic world. Anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance OPticus

Okay, so I'm running a slightly comedic Dark Champions: the animated series game(Hudson City Powers), 5th Edition rules, with a twist: I give them incentive to play batman-types(normal gadgeteers) beyond the usual normal characteristic maxima: They(The PCs) start out with 270 points and normal characteristic maxima and can buy off normal characteristic maxima with their starting points. However, I'm trying to think of a foxbat adventure seed or something, and the other problem is that I'm counting on there being a lot of players(around 12). I wonder... My dad had this idea of the "villain scouts", a villain training camp run by foxbat, but I thought of the idea of Fox…

I somehow totally missed that this had gone on sale: "The Third War" It's a story I wrote last year for Pinnacle's "Necessary Evil" setting, in which all the superheroes are dead and the villains have to save the world from an alien invasion. Here's the synopsis from PEG's website: Crusader is the most isolated man in Star City. He spent the years prior to the v’sori invasion racking up an impressive body count of supervillains and street criminals. For his efforts he was hunted by the cops, targeted by the underworld, and reviled by the public as a ruthless vigilante. Since the invasion he’s shifted his focus to shooting aliens, but still takes any opportunit…

In anticipation of people soon getting their hands on Hudson City, we've posted two new documents to the Free Stuff page: 1. The Hudson City Encyclopedia, the encyclopedic index for the book. 2. The Hudson City Hotel, Bar, And Restaurant Guide, a handy list of places to stay and eat in the Pearl City. Enjoy!

My chairacter I created is kind of a crossover between cammando and bounty hunter. On the one hand commandos chase down bad guys. Then again so do bounty hunters. Both do it for profit. Just a matter of the ol Dead or alive thing. I think commandos would rather bring their bad guy back dead rather then alive. A bounty hunter on the other hand doesnt get paid for their man to be dead. So if you had a choice would your Dark Champions chairacter be either a commando or a bounty hunter?

So the deal is this: Near future, Tech-based powered armor. My current thinking is to make this an Heroic game so that the focus is on the characters. Each "driver" or wearer of the armor will have a chosen field of study. Either a hard science or perhaps something a little more on the fringe. Equipment will consist of a base-model exoskeleton, but several "mission mods" can be loaded on hardpoints at major joints (shoulders, back, Left and right arms, left and right legs) depending on what the job might call for. Think of Iron Man meets Thunderbirds, or, Centurions, if you remember that show... So the question is: Thoughts on Character point and Disad limits? Norm Cha …

A few times when I've run street level crimefighting campaigns, I've heard a few of these quotes from players as intros when they arrive on scene and the players aren't quite in the right grimly serious moods for their characters. Here are some of the more humorous examples I recall. "Beware evildoers, for I am the crabgrass in the lawn of crime." "Fear me. I am the parking meter that won't take your coins."

HOLY COW! This book is absolutely fan-freakin'-tastic. As I've mentioned before I recently moved and in the unpacking I found a few Champions books I hadn't seen in quite sometime. On of the books I found was Hudson City Blues. I picked up somewhere for like 3 bucks but I never really read it. Well I was out of reading material so I picked up and started reading it. I was pretty intrigued and thought it was an interesting adventure. It makes reference to characters in the Underworld Enemies, so I figured I'd see if I could find a copy of that and Justice Not Law (haven't been through the latter yet). I got them both from Amazon.com for under $15. After going through …

This character was inspired by Salvador Velazquez's cover art for Eco Comics' Dick Turbin #1. I have a hard-time coming up with "themed" characters -- but this worked for me. Dick Turban was a historical highwayman, and I've always enjoyed Alfred Noyes eponymous poem -- The Highwayman. I had a picture in my head of a 1700's highwayman blowing into "old town" on an old Indian-4 motorcycle while writing it. The design fits the Hudson City Knights genre-principles and Hudson City Powers power-levels. However, I've been considering doing Champions:TAS with trimmed down power-levels that would allow DC:TAS crossover. To that end, his flintlock blasters …

Hello everyone! I'm running a game set in the modern day where the PCs are participants on a game show with high stakes. Indeed, their very lives are on the line. To help them out every now and again, the people in charge of the competition will send in bags chock full of supplies. Asides from the usual equipment (weapons/ammo, medical supplies, food/water, clothing, etc), what could be placed in them to add flavor and cover those little luxuries us lazy first-world citizens take for granted? (Before you make mention of it, know that I did not see the first The Hunger Games film before I came up with this idea .)
