Hello! I've got a short question, but from looking on the forums in the past it sorta feels like I may be poking a proverbial 800kg Hulk Knockoff. So, bear that in mind The question is, "What do SFX do?" Now that itself is horribly broad, so I'll try to explain further. I was reading through an argument about Transform, Multiform, and Shapeshift earlier, and I was somewhat confused. The prevailing question in it was whether Shapeshift's SFX, of shapeshifting, provided abilities with it. The general conclusion was that, no, it did not, as while it might seem to, it is up to the GM to generally limit abuse in that manner, or for the playe…

Champions the RPG (product #1100) page 230 I'm trying to recreate this item using Hero Designer and I came up with a problem. I understand about Expanded Effect with Variable Effect combo to affect all powers simultaneously for +4. What I don't understand is the next item, Variable Special Effects (eight special effects simultaneously) for +1. Looking up Variable Special Effect ins 6E1 362, the VSE is only +1/2 for all SFX. Where is the creator of this item coming up with the +1? The other problem is the Costs END for -0. Under Suppress 6E1 196, Costs END (to maintain) is a -1/2 limitation, but only if the Constant advantage is applied. However, this it…

If someone has "only in hero ID" I'm unclear on how that works? As a rule of thumb, should that be 30 seconds to switch IDs? Oe just a segment? If they want a completely different look ( human to demon) is that something they have to pay for ( shape change, transformation ect) or is that free? I just want to be fair, and am looking for guidance. Thank you for your time.

Good Evening! Got another quick uncertainty here. So, I've been working on this Growth Based Brick for a bit now. I've finally got them pretty well stated out confidently, and am trying to figure out their regular viability in combat. This led me straight into their DCV and some questions on that. Namely, as they grow to Enormous, that applies a pretty hefty -4 DCV Penalty at any time they are large. Not only that, but one of the main manuver that I figured for them was to grab opponents and to Slam or Throw them most of the time. So sitting solidly at a 7DCV down to a 3, and then potentially halving that, I am a might bit... curious on ways to assist that, an…

What's this? I'm not starting a thread to ask a silly/obvious question this time? Inconceivable! So, what we have here are a couple of charts plotting character height and mass, from a Hero System General thread that ran on /tg/ a week or two ago. Actual science (and the Hero default) has mass change by the cube of linear height while maintaining normal proportions, but the square and, for Shrinking, linear values are also included as the way large or small characters act in comic books often coincides more with their visible space on the page, and because even that still feels like it goes down a bit fast for Shrinking. Keeping in mind that 2m and 100kg is a …

Good Evening! I've got what I hope should be a quick question. I'm looking to buy an Advantage for Strength. Specifically Area of Advantage, Any Area. I know this allows you to generate 2, 2meter area's to hit, which have to be adjacent, and well represents the intent I have to be hitting some of the area round, but not just a whole burst like Area of Effect: Radius would be. My questions are this: 1: Buying the Advantage Increases the Active Points on Strength. I think the rules are saying that it increases the DC accordingly. Thus, a 10 DC 10d6 attack would become a 10DC 8d6 Attack. Is that correct, or am I incorrect? 2: Buying the Advantage generates…

I’m building the Hulk For sixth and am using Surbrook’s (5th edition?) builds for inspiration Im making statements here which might not be correct. It’s been a long time and a few rules changes since I’ve used Aid and my memory is foggy Anyway, a maximum value is listed in Surbrook’s Aid powers, between 90 to 120 points, give or take, and this confuses me in Sixth, the max Aid is the amount you can roll on the dice (6e1 167), so a 5d6 Aid maxes at 30 points. You can roll multiple times, but even with Constant you’re maxed at 30 points. If I’m reading it right. So how do I “stack” Aid for greater long term effect, like thos…

I have a question on what type of PRE attack rolls people are using the PRE attack modifier for attractiveness/beauty? I understand the PRE attack modifier for ugliness but help me understand the PRE attack modifier for some one who is beautiful, say +1d6 modifier. Thank you in advance.

I'm thinking specifically of a Transformers style character wtih a vehicle mode, but it would apply just as much to Piggyback Man with his folding seat backpack frame - how would you represent being able to easily carry other characters at speed? "Just fluff it if they have the Strength and a good description" isn't, you know, anathema, but a team mate who can transport members without movement powers of their own or evacuate civilians and so on. is a tangible benefit that feels like it should have some kind of cost, if not an overwhelming one. Then there's Optimus Prime with his freight trailer or The Great And Powerful Turtle who's never seen outside his flying bunker b…

Hi, maybe it's an old question but I've searched for a response in the forum but didn't find it. Looking at the rules for adding damage it says: "When a character performs a Move By/Through (or other movement-based Maneuver) with a weapon, divide his STR by 2 for purposes of calculating extra damage or DC/OCV penalties based on the weapon’s STR Minimum (6E2 199)." And in the chapter about using objects as weapons it says: " Improvised weapons typically can only increase a character’s Normal Damage in HTH Combat when used with a Strike Combat Maneuver. If used with some other Maneuver, they just let the character h…

Hello Y’all, I’ve been lately playing mini scenarios with my older son. He is using Yueng Li from genre by genre. And well the crux of the problem is if you watch a bunch of King Fu flicks almost no one wears armor and a lot have killing weapons. So if the Hero has no resistant defenses then even a modest 1D6 KA is bad as the Hero takes all of it. I’m thinking though that Heroes and named Villains might roll KAs as Normal AVADs instead as rolling Body is going to lower for average rolls. So any thoughts on this?

I just saw a YouTube video about an ATV and it was mentioned that thousands of people died using them. I'm assuming most of the ATV accidents were from someone "failing a driving check" so badly that they were either thrown off or the ATV rolled over on them. So I was thinking, how would this be done in Hero? How would you make it so there were circumstances where operating the vehicle improperly could cause injury or death? IMHO even doing a critical failure (18 on 3d6) can happen too often to be realistic depending on how often you make the skill check. But if you tack on too many conditions (like failing a DEX roll after a critical failure) it becomes cumbersome an not…

This is as much for me to check my understanding as it is to try and boil down concepts into a concise enough whole to be offered to others. In other words, I think this is the basics of the system rules, and tries to address each portion of the system in at least a minor way. Criticism is more than welcome, as is corrections and addendum. Not much mechanically though. ahem Hero System Beginnings: Hello! And welcome to a fairly fun and peculiar system. Whether you intend to go out and fight the villain of the week, follow a dynamic continuous story-line to face off an arch rival, explore an unknown planet and mystic ruins, or travel between the stars with t…

Hello everyone. I was hoping that all the people that post here might be able to help me make sense of the Reduced Penetration limitation. I understand mechanically that if you hit, your divide the damage dice in half and roll them, then apply the BODY damage separately against defenses, but combine the STUN before applying. This is to simulate something that is stopped more easily by armor or tougher defenses. I see that it is used for shotguns as well as claws on monsters in the bestiary. But at least at the HEROIC levels of game, it seems like these weakens the attacks to be almost useless. Anyone with 3 or 4 PD of Resistant defense woul…

Hello there! I'll get down to the meat of the question. I'm currently working on a basic sort of stunning power. The goal is for an overwhelming being to let out a horrific screech to cause the enemy to falter in their tracts. Now, I've come across a few ways to do this and am curious on ya'lls takes on them. More specifically, as last time people grumbled for me asking which of a set of options was right... What of these powers would you not want to see at your table? Either for abuse, or thematic, or just that you don't like it. Firstly, is the one with the least... ruling for it. Treat it as either a Radius or cone based Flash attack against both Hearing…

So, it's a mentalist. He's got telepathy; he can go into a subject's memories. The power in question is that he can read the memories, and while doing so, make a "copy" of them onto a medium of some sort that can be prepared in advance. (That part is likely just Charges that can only be recovered in a lab.) They can be played back later; a separate aspect of this would be a projector that can read the contents and create an image of the scene. But I can't offhand think of how to buy the power to make the copy in the first place. This power would not, in itself, alter the subject's memories at all.

There's a concept I really like but can't figure out how to build: a character who can detach his body parts (arm, leg, head, etc) and move them around and control them separately. For example, he could make his arm detach and fly off to punch a bad guy, or he could detach an eye and fly it around to do some reconnaissance, etc. How would you build that?

Hi all One of my players has purchased Entangle in a Multipower slot. When he uses it, what happens on the following Phase? Is that slot now unavailable while the Entangle is in effect (given that Entangle doesn't require anything to maintain it, ie: handcuffs)? Or are those reserve points locked until the Entangle ends? i suspect it's the former, but I wasn't sure ... Thanks, T

Considering a Fast and Furious type game with significant focus on driving, how can I discourage players from wanting to buy their Combat Driving up as high as they can afford? Specifically, I'm looking for different game-mechanic options so that not every thing is Combat Driving roll after Combat Driving roll after Combat Driving roll after ... you get the picture.

My wife wants to build a lightning based character. Teleportation over wires is one form of movement, but she also wants to fly. I'm thinking either Teleportation Usable As Flight; or Flight Usable As Teleportation (both have the 1m = 1m, so it doesn't matter which the UA2nM is on). My question is which way would be better represented. It also would look like that Usable As 2nd Form Of Movement would be a Naked Advantage due the nature of what she wants. Opinions?

I've got a character who has spent pretty much their entire life living in a hell dimension, very recently returned to her original human form. She has by now utterly forgotten any human everyman skills she might have had, but of course would have those of her demonic realm. I have no clue what those might be however. Anyone know of such, or care to take a stab at suggestions? Character attached in subsequent post, updated. Clearly inspired by Illyana Rasputin, and named as she is to pay homage.

So, say I have a character with Alter Environment in a small radius to raise wind one level and make small objects levitate with 1 TK STR, Image (Sight group) Only To Create Light & Fixed Effect: glowing aura around the user, and 1m of Flight with Megascale 1m=1km so at SPD 3 they can travel 900kph non-combat. Total of 10 Real Points, or twenty-something Active Points - I don't remember exactly. I have them zoom (or at least skydive and catch themselves with the combat movement) down out of the sky in full shounen power-up mode and make a Presence attack to awe or intimidate. Obviously this should get some kind of bonus, but how much? Would it equal the effect of…
