I am about to join a Fantasy Hero campaign. The Campaign Guidelines permit me to buy up to 5PD/ED resistant that would be stackable with worn armor. I want to take this, but I want to define it as "Only a flesh wound", whereby while it's normal stun is not affected (it still stops 5), half the body from any killing attack that reaches this defense will always get through. I want it to stop the full 5 points of body if sufficient body reaches it. So for example, if he is wearing full plate for 8 Def, and he gets hit for 12 killing body damage, he'll take 2 body with the additional resistant defense stopping 2. If he got hit for 18 killing body damage, the maxim…

In this case, fluff isn't relevant, but it's a spell that "awakens a[n] [object]’s spirit, granting it awareness and sapience." I know the usual way to do this would be Summon, with a Focus of "this thing here". But this isn't meant to be temporary; it's a permanent change. So, now I'm thinking Transform? Should it be Severe or Major? Anyone have thoughts? Edit: just realized that someone might suggest Followers. While I could see that as part of a character's build, in this case I'm looking for a power build to do it from scratch, and I don't think Followers really does that.

I've never seen it on here but I'm curious. Has anyone ever set aside a certain amount of points on their NPCs when you're passing them to friends? For example, in a Fantasy Hero game you have Madame Grizelda. She has been around for as long as the family has ruled, probably longer then the castle itself was built! She's the one who's raised (or seems to have raised) the last 3 generations of Royal Family. The Royal Mum remembers visiting the castle as a little girl and Grizelda being there. Now Grizelda may be the spirit of the Castle protecting the Royals (to a degree) or she may just be that old lady who seems to have been around forever (I keep thinking of…

I have a GM telling me that I need to burn endurance when I swing a sword equal to the strength I use. That much is obvious. However he is also telling me that I need to ALSO, same phase, burn endurance for the strength I use to use the Shield for DCV. The GM is always right if this is a house rule, but I think he thinks this is the way it is supposed to be done. Is he correct?

I like building characters in Hero System, and will often do so even if not playing any specific game the character would be used in. This is such a case. However I typically write a fairly involved backstory, not so much to force GMs into obeisance as rather to inform all as to history and likely motivations. (Such as these...) Moreover I also tend to do a lot of tying in with the mechanics of the character build and the backstory. In the case of this character, the build is sufficiently different that I am not sure it would pass muster with most GMs, and I'd rather not invest the rather considerable effort I put into such backstory if the build itself would be a no go f…

I'm in the process of building a Witch, a magic power pool wielding sorceress (built as a 400 point super). The power pool actually costs substantially more than a multipower with ten ultra slots and comes with downsides the multipower does not, like needing a half phase to change powers PLUS a skill roll that could fail. To get my points worth, I was highly motivated to pack every obvious power I could into her pool, I'd need a lot more than ten to feel good about not using a multipower instead. As I was doing this, it because quite obvious to me that much of what I was adding could be problematic for many GMs/games. This then begs the question, which powers would 'you' …

How would you handle someone grabbing someone else who has been grabbed by a third party. Like a flyer or speedster swooping in an pulling somone out of a swarm of grabbers or something. Would the flyer get a passive strength check to shake the grabbers off the target? Say Superman flies down and sees Lois being grabbed by Wrestlers. He successfully performs a Grab By on her to pull her free. He is strong enough to carry both her and the 2 or 3 wrestlers who made Grab attackers previously on her. How does he get her free? Does he have to make individual attacks against each in flight? Could he make a Passive Strength check to shake them off?

What is your experience been with Variable Power Pools Do you have any house rules concerning VPPs? Do you allow them at all and if so what limits do you place on them? Have you or anyone else in your game used a Cosmic Power Pool? What was the outcome?

Hi everybody! I got Fantasy Grounds earlier this year to run a Champions game using 6th edition. Someone over at Fantasy Grounds has been working on a 5th edition ruleset for... a long time. I decided not to wait for him to not finish and besides, I wanted to run 6th edition instead. It's not perfect, but it does a whole lot for you. If you're interested, simply download the ruleset here. There is a document on how to use it inside. Just unzip it like you would any ZIP file: http://www.erkenfresh.com/Champions6e.pak My plans are not to support this further. It does about 75% of the things you'll need it to do and the other 25% are going to get very difficult t…

This came up recently when discussing potential powers with a player, and there was confusion over exactly what and when a mental power is perceived. Assuming no mental awareness, a Mental Blast is advantaged with AoE and the hex targeting is successful. From what I could tell; - Mental Powers are inherently invisible - Targets of Mental Powers are immediately aware of the source and type of Mental Power affecting them, unless advantaged with Invisible Power Effects, or it in a Mental Control/Illusion power, in which case they are aware after its effects have expired. I understand that anyone outside the AoE of the Mental Blast h…

Hail again, I have an opportunity to run a game session for beginning players next month, and I'm pondering whether to use Hero with an established setting or just go with the beginner sets I have accumulated (to gather dust) over the years. Hero is such an opportunity for different genres, despite having lots of crunch. I'm wondering whether a Skyrim game or wild west stuff would go well with a new group. Would you run Hero for complete beginners?

It's been a while since I've posted, but I miss those long gameplay discussions with lots of great bits of advice. So here goes: I've been fiddling with the idea for a while to use hidden or secret die rolls for certain types of situations. I've never really liked having the GM do all the rolls behind a screen because it takes away, at least on the surface, from player agency (some of us remember the bad old days of D&D using this tactic). But sometimes you don't want your players to know if they've succeeded, or by how much. Some examples could be: a stealth roll while trying to hide from a pursuer. Did he see you hide around the corner…

Olaf (from Frozen/Frozen2) and Jenny XJ9 (My Life as a Teenage Robot) both have arms that can move, even though not attached to the main body. In both cases, the arms can point or even hold someone's hand. How would you build that?

I know the 6th Edition Rules say that, generally, a character under the influence of alcohol is -2 OCV and -2 DCV, but has anyone ever statted out a the effects of "booze", poisons or other drugs in game terms? A NND attack?

It is my understanding that I don't need to apply "Mobile" to this power (below) because it is No Range, per 6e1 (and having GM's option). Also, *none* of the example powers using Images on p238 have Mobile. This power is to create an "orb" (Physical Manifestation) that is independent of the character once created (Uncontrolled), and lasts for a period of time. It can be picked up and moved, thus moving what area is being illuminated. Sight Group Images, +4 PER Roll; Reduced END(Zero; +½), Area of Effect(8m Radius; +½), Uncontrolled(+½); Only To Create Light(-1), No Range(-½), Physical Manifestation(-¼), Time Limit(6 hrs; -½) I seriously cannot see why anybody …

Why did character and villain write-ups get so much longer from 4th to 6 th...and can they be simplified without much trouble? I started with 1st edition, actually, but I noticed that in 6th edition rulebooks and supplements, villain and other write-ups can take up two or three pages, whereas in the Olympians book, even Zeus (1100 points) can be explained on a single page? Is the amount of detail necessary? Can 6th edition characters be written up without that much detail?

Likely I'm blind and certainly I still ignorant of Hero as a whole. I am looking for an attack which directly drains some characteristic or power and adds it to yourself/user. Absorption seem to only act against an attack and Drain doesn't transfer it to the attacker. Unless I'm missing something. Thinking Rogue, Elric's Stormbringer, etc; Thanks for the help!

Hey guys, a "Somewhat" first time HERO GM here. I'm running a 175 point heroic modern fantasy game. While the core rule book is helpful in determining the average points players should put into skills and characteristics I don't really see anything about what the Average DCV,OCV and PD and ED should be. The game is a typical dungeon crawl type game where players find and buy equipment so should PD and ED be restricted to armor and items the players have and should DCV or OCV be restricted to CSL and martial abilites a character may know? I don't really know what to do when it comes to those stats so any advice would be helpful thank you!

So working on some stuff, and got to thinking about this: How detailed do you like your write ups? Do you want every single thing written up, with every single limitation, or do you prefer "simple" builds that get close enough As an example Electrical Blast: 12d6 or Electrical Blast 6d6 +6d6 not vs grounded (flying, etc...) (-1) +6d6 vs conductive (standing in water, etc...) -2

6E says Talents are built from skills and powers. The example build of Universal Translator in 6E1 Appendix is built using Detect Meaning of Speech 10 pts and Detect Meaning of Text 10 pts. Am I correct that this is from Powers-Sense Groups and uses Detect Table - 'A large class of things' ?

Hello Herodom, I just happen to have this thought at work. For building a unique Martial Art Ability, I was thinking of using Indirect (on the specific power isn’t a concern) in order to hit the opponent grabbing you. Yes I know that depending on grab a GM should allow you to use available limbs. I’m just curious since this is GM area if other GMs would allow it.

Hi everyone! Happy new year! I was thinking of trying to build a ghost/haunt like character. I wasn't quite sure how to build it out. Desolid power? I was thinking he would be incorporeal but still be seen and I could jump around party members doing buffs in combat or debuff enemies (like witch hexes in pathfinder). I am not sure about passing through objects, maybe like classic ghost weaknesses like not through iron, or salt put down. Same with damage reduction, where you would need something magical or a gimmick like cold iron kind of thing. Is that possible and a decent concept? I also read about doing an AI build that I think is pretty cool, but how would …

https://dragonball.fandom.com/wiki/Power_Up Does anyone know if it's possible to create this technique? It boosts the user's power to new heights, through a power up. Refer to the link for a better description. If possible, what all would go into this Power?
