Hello all, I mainly play Champions, but I'm a HUGE Hero fan, and have picked up EVERYTHING Hero has put out for 5th so far (well except what ever just came out this last week :-)) Anyway A pal of mine, Thom is using Star Hero, and the supplements to design his own version of Battlestar Hero. In doing so we have been looking over the ships created for the SH genera to get a feel for how we should build the Vipers, Cylon Raiders and other ships. What I found (and I can only speak for the STK, because Thom has my other books at this time) is that the Ships are very unbalanced, and I'm wondering why. I'll give examples. Example 1: Super-Dreadnought class Imperial Nav…

Hi- I'm anew GM to HREO, having discovered it a couple of days ago- it's damn fine! I have been running a home-brew campaign based loosely on Traveller- I was wondering if anyone had a workable conversion of a trave style prior history for character creation? It's something I'm keen to keep in at least some form, so any thought would be most appreciated! PS if there's a central place for HERO traveller resources, a link would be cool! Thanks for your help!

I've been very slowly reading Star Hero, and I came across this: "A con man has just sold the party's starship to four different customers and skipped out with the loot." I thought of a spin on this in that the con man sold the starship to each of the PCs and skipped out with the loot. This would be a great way to start a campaign or game. It seems somewhat better than the old stand by "your in a tavern/bar ..." to get the PCs together. BTW, what ways have you used to get your PC together in your games and campaigns?

OK, now that my evil master villain knows that if he accelerates a one tonne rock towards the Earth at 6G it will take an hour to get there and be travelling at about 210,000m/sec when it arrives. So how big is the explosion? If I recall correctly, in the HSR it says that an object can do no more than its DEF plus BODY damage when it impacts on something else -- i.e. if it's thrown. This equation seems to fall down a bit when you start dealing with Intergalactic Space Bugs who are tossing asteroids at Buenos Aires. Or does it? What am I missing?

Howdy folks. I'm tenetively going to be starting a Star Hero campaign in the near future, and I was wondering if anyone could recomend a program to use to keep track of star locations. I'd love something that lets me define x,y,z coordinates for stars and log star names and boarders of stellar nations and what-not. Any ideas? Thanks, James.

While, as far as I know, Hero doesn't do "race books" or such ("The complete guide to the Malvan" ), it does seem quite a few species in the Terran Empire that already exist could use some fleshing out. A few because they're so fascinating, and a few, well, because they seem rather 'so so' with what little we have on them. Do you think Hero/DoJ should try to flesh some of them out more? If so, which ones? And how (entire books, DH articles, etc?)?

I've got the following drive I'm using for Starships in Star Hero/Fantasy Hero setting Exodus: Fold Drive: Faster-Than-Light Travel (512 LY/year) (28 Active Points); Increased Endurance Cost 10x END (-4), Costs Endurance Costs END Every Phase (-1/2) 5 Real Points It runs off the ship's power plant (END Reserve). The drive is normally controlled from a systems console on the bridge (or engineering) via a Systems Operation roll by a crewman or AI. Calculations can take up to ten minutes. Now... let's say this drive is subject to a new set of genes that has been showing up in the current generation. Some women (76 so far) and a very small number of men (5 …

So this is only a little derivative... but my players enjoy a little creative plagiarism... Knights of Thundai The Knights of Thundai are a quasi–monastic secret order that seeks out and extinguishes traces of evil and oppression in the Galaxy. They have a space station somewhere in the Expanse, but are not tied to the Exodite Council in any way. They recruit from promising armsmen, wizards and revolutionaries. Frequently, they involve themselves in corporate activities in defense of common folk on planets where the Council’s edicts are taken less seriously by Great Houses whose aim is more toward profit than simply doing what is right. Any race is eligi…

I was wondering if anyone knew, or at least had a rough estimatation of the tech levels of many of the races presented in Terran Empire during the Heroverse time of 2003 AD. Particularly the Mon'Dabi, the Perseid, and other guys running empires etc in the future, but any thoughts are welcome. I mean to use some of it for Champions, so this might not be the appropriate board, and my apologies for that... but more folks here seem in the know on our favorite TE races period. Thanks for any help/thoughts before hand.

I keep thinking that somewhere in Terran Empire there was mention of the law that robots must be easily discernable as such at a glance, and not made to be indistinguishable from organic life. I know where to find the mention in Spacer's Toolkit (page 33) -- but is that the actual first mention of that law?

Popular Science Magazine just came out with an issue called Space 2100. It has lots of good ideas you can you to run a hard science fiction campaign, including robots, solar sails, and colonizing Mars. This is a great resource and a font of ideas.

I plan to opt out of the VPP sensor suite in favor of a MP sensor design. Basically I expect to be able to load it with specific modules for specific things being sensed. Does someone have ideas on they types of things which a sensor system would detect?

I'm a complete ignoramus when it comes to mathematics. This has its down-side, unfortunately, when one is planning running a space opera campaign. What I want is some utility into which I can plug an acceleration value (e.g. 3.2G) and a time value (e.g. 76 hours), and have it tell me how far I've travelled in that time, and what my velocity is. Also, I'd like to be able to plug in a distance and an acceleration value and have a trip time returned. This seems to me to be the sort of thing that someone with an ounce of mathematical ability and programming skill could whip up in ten minutes, but unfortunately all my programming pals have moved to other cities. Has …

I finally got my copy of Spacer's Toolkit this week. It actually arrived Tuesday; I've just waited until today to crow about it because I wanted to let it absorb. (These things need to be allowed their proper time, you know, or they could cause indigestion.) Anyhow, it's every bit as awesome as the preview manuscript hinted -- and a lot easier to handle in professional-looking layout and with illustrations and all that. Like most readers, I personally could have done with more in Chapter One, but that doesn't make it a bad book by any means. Congratulations to Ben, Steve, Darren, Andy, and all of the interior illustrators on a job well done.

Has anybody done any work on advanced construction materials for vehicles in the Hero system? various versions of Traveller and GURPS have covered this, but is there anything in HERO for this Heres a couple of rough ideas I've been tinkering with Hull Construction:[Hardened Steel assumed to be standard] Planetoid Hull: +10 Body, +10 Def, ½ Cost, cannot enter atmosphere Buffered Planetoid Hull: +15 Body, +15 Def, 2/3 Cost, cannot enter atmosphere Both planetoid hulls can have armor added, but get no bonuses for hull type, or for interior design They also cannot be equipped with stealth hulls. Advanced Hull Material I[ Titanium Alloy]: +1 Bod…
