A Murder of Crows Ariyal wasn’t exactly running–just walking briskly, thank you–but as she strode back into the Panopticon, one booted foot slipped and she had to make a frantic grab for support. Blasted formal attire, with its hard-soled boots! Those boots--and the voluminous robes, and the ridiculous headgear--made up in discomfort what they lacked in practicality. “Which is everything,” said the Lady Talsumnavariyal, youngest Valeyard ever to hold the office. She released the pillar that had kept her upright–one of a pair that stood where Rassilon’s Way opened into the Panopticon--and gave its partner on the other side of the corridor a sour smile.…

Meals Ready To Eat(MREs)- Also called "Meals Rejected By The Enemy" and "Meals Ready For Execution", MREs were univerally regarded as the bane of every solider's existance. Each MRE was packed in a tough plastic bag, which held- *The entree, containing a chemical heating element that would heat the meal up to eating temperature in less than five minutes and hold that temperature for another twenty-five minutes. The bag has a zip-top opening for eating the meal. *A "chew-toy" or cold food item-usually crackers or biscuits, with a form of spread. *Powdered coffee or hot chocolate, with triple the caffeen count. *A "dessert" item, usually some form of candy. *A…

Humanity is exploring the outer planets in this system and discovers that there is intelligent life on the planet Pluto. Since Pluto recieves extremely little solar energy I realize that this life would have to be extremely resistant to temps that humans concider freezing while having a hard time with human comfort temps. The thing that I am wondering about is what they would look like, any abilities that they might possess, any problems that might arise from that low-grav planet, etc. I greatly appreciat any and all advice that you great ones would offer to me.

Its been mentioned several times through the SH forum about a program called Celestia. From their home page: "Celestia is a free real-time space simulation that lets you experience our universe in three dimensions. Unlike most planetarium software, Celestia doesn't confine you to the surface of the Earth. You can travel throughout the solar system, to any of over 100,000 stars, or even beyond the galaxy. " For the longest time it was PC/Linux/Unix only. I noticed today that there is now an OSX version! http://www.shatters.net/celestia/ Have fun! Aroooo

Hi Star Heroes, I'm going to be starting a near space opera style SH game in a couple of months. I am using my own universe but I would like to get some good published adventures to supliment my ideas or to give me new ideas. What are some published science fiction adventures that people like? Thanks!

While at the FLGS today, on a whim I picked up the following: Star Hero Spacers Toolkit Terran Empire Alien Wars and I KNOW I won't be able to run it anytime in the near future. I just picked them all up to read because they sounded so interesting. I need help. I know it (and now my wallet doesn't like me anymore.)

Presdient Bush is about to annoucne his desire to establish a base on the Moon. fair enough, but I want it taken a step further. I want to see a COLONY on the Moon in my lifetime. Before i die I want to read in the newspaper about the first children born on other worlds. If you were to build a lunar colony with available-in-the-present-day technolgoy, hwat would life there be like? How can you build things so the colony is not totally dependent on resupply from Earth for survival? If someone were to move to the Moon permanently, what effect would lunar gravity and living in cotnrolled environments eventually have on their bodies? Can we put enough people on the moon…

Does anyone have an url for an image of the shield belt force-fields as they were portrayed in david Lynch's Dune movie? That's the look I want, plus the excellent earth hum, static crackle and ozone smell, for force fields in my TE campaign. It would be useful to have an image I can show to my players so they get the idea right off the bat.

We've enjoyed several "Doctor Who" related threads here. So take the quiz and determine which "Who" you are. http://quizilla.com/users/winternight/quizzes/Which%20Incarnation%20of%20the%20Doctor%20Are%20You?/

What would be the powers that you would give to a Jedi. Here's what they have shown that I can think off Mind Control Telepathy - surface thoughts only Missle Deflection Telekinisis Jumping, actually decided to by it as flight up and down, must land at end of phase + to SPD Lightning Reflexes What else would you add. The telekinisis or mind control could be use to choke someone. The only other thing I can think of is Vadar's reflecting of Solos blaster shot, which could be his armor as much as the Force.

Just wondering if anyone has any of the artistically inclined members of this board unpublished sci-fi art (presumably fan art) related to the Terran Empire setting. What with art threads in the Champions and Fantasy Hero forums, I just thought I'd get something started here....

This is a stupid questen but im new to hero system. For space ships if you wnat them to carry something other than the ship itself would you just buy extra strenght so that it could carry more and count the extra cappasty as a cargo hold or would you do something else?

I was wondering if anyone has come up with any interesting noble families or individuals for use in the Terran Empire setting. Have you ever played within this aspect of the Empire's power structure much, either as nobles or retainers to a noble family?

Okay, so I have started a wish fulfillment thread in champions where the idea was to post 350 pt superpowered versions of ourselves. It didn't fly, but I will keep trying and Trying. (gotta death wish or something) so you have 75 + 75; make yourself in your favorite space epic. What sci fi would you "partake" in and what would you do?

I’m planning on constructing a Psionic Virus for my STAR HERO campaign that is designed to destroy mentalists. It would be transmitted by mental contact (any ECV contact would do). It begins with flu-like symptoms. Eventually it would cause mentalists to gradually lose control of their powers. If allowed to continue, it would lead to insanity, and then death. A non-Psionic could contract the virus, but would not be adversely affected by it. They would; however, become a carrier and can transmit it to another psionic who makes an ECV roll on them. Here’s some of what I’m thinking so far: - 3d6 RKA; NND (Defense is not being a Mentalist), Does BO…

  18. Is the advanatge of having a full 360-degree view of your surroundings in the cockpit of your spacecraft, mecha or plane enough of a combat advanatge to be worth points in the vehicle design process? I was inspired by this anime I saw (which i mentioned in another topic) in which the pilot of the space fighter appeared to be sitting alone in infinite space. She could see everything that was going on around her in all directions, which is actually something you really need in 3-D combat environments, when something could come up from beneath you as easily as from in front or behind. Of course that mecha also had a heads-up display and sensors that showed the rela…

After much searching, and lots of cutting and pasting, reformatting, and more cutting and pasting, I have lists of watch positions for a 20th century guided missile destroyer (e.g. DDG51 Flight II A), and it's proposed successor, the DD(X). These don't include medics, marines, boiler/reactor crews, cooks and bottlewashers, or miscellaneous swab jockeys, so tripling the count (for three watches) won't give you the full crew complement... but since they are somewhat illustrative of manpower requirements, and were a pain to dig up, I'll share them here anyway. First, the DDG51, then the DD(X) with notations on which stations correlate to which stations on the DDG5…

Was originally going to put this in "Other Genres" put it sci-fi so I think it belongs here . . . In any case, has anyone else out there in Herodom read David Webers "Path of the Fury" and if so, have you tried to create one of the Drop Commando's? I've tried a couple of times and just can't seem to come up with anything that I'd be willing to keep/save.

  22. Traveller manpower requirements are based on the ships displacement tonnage, and installed tonnage of various equipment, so a conversion from DT to HERO terms is needed. that I posted a while back and can post again if needed. Has there been any explanation given as to what the Star*Guard are up to during the Alien Wars and Terran Empire eras? Did this organization simply vanish when magic faded and superheroes went away? I assume they might return as part of the Galactic Champions era. Anyone else given this matter any thought?

My computer is not cooperating... I am designing a hard SF Star hero campaign. Taking place mostly on the outer worlds of our Solar system. After scouring the web, I've found that several of the planets and their moons have organic compounds mixed with frozen methane, water ice, frozen hydrogen,ect..My chemistry knowledge is weak and I had a few questions for the collective minds on these boards: 1)Aside from these organic compounds being useful for production of plastics and petrochemicals, how useful would they be as the "basic stock" for food or hydroponic food production? 2)What process would be used to seperate the compounds from the water, hydrogen, met…

For those of you using the Terran Empire setting... who are you using as your regular bad guys? The Ackalians? The Thorgons? Criminal scum? The Terran Imperial forces themselves? Or some other antagonist? Yes, this is yet another feeble attempt to pick your brains and get new perspectives on the setting's uses
