This is a stupid questen but im new to hero system. For space ships if you wnat them to carry something other than the ship itself would you just buy extra strenght so that it could carry more and count the extra cappasty as a cargo hold or would you do something else?

I was wondering if anyone has come up with any interesting noble families or individuals for use in the Terran Empire setting. Have you ever played within this aspect of the Empire's power structure much, either as nobles or retainers to a noble family?

Okay, so I have started a wish fulfillment thread in champions where the idea was to post 350 pt superpowered versions of ourselves. It didn't fly, but I will keep trying and Trying. (gotta death wish or something) so you have 75 + 75; make yourself in your favorite space epic. What sci fi would you "partake" in and what would you do?

I’m planning on constructing a Psionic Virus for my STAR HERO campaign that is designed to destroy mentalists. It would be transmitted by mental contact (any ECV contact would do). It begins with flu-like symptoms. Eventually it would cause mentalists to gradually lose control of their powers. If allowed to continue, it would lead to insanity, and then death. A non-Psionic could contract the virus, but would not be adversely affected by it. They would; however, become a carrier and can transmit it to another psionic who makes an ECV roll on them. Here’s some of what I’m thinking so far: - 3d6 RKA; NND (Defense is not being a Mentalist), Does BO…

Is the advanatge of having a full 360-degree view of your surroundings in the cockpit of your spacecraft, mecha or plane enough of a combat advanatge to be worth points in the vehicle design process? I was inspired by this anime I saw (which i mentioned in another topic) in which the pilot of the space fighter appeared to be sitting alone in infinite space. She could see everything that was going on around her in all directions, which is actually something you really need in 3-D combat environments, when something could come up from beneath you as easily as from in front or behind. Of course that mecha also had a heads-up display and sensors that showed the rela…

After much searching, and lots of cutting and pasting, reformatting, and more cutting and pasting, I have lists of watch positions for a 20th century guided missile destroyer (e.g. DDG51 Flight II A), and it's proposed successor, the DD(X). These don't include medics, marines, boiler/reactor crews, cooks and bottlewashers, or miscellaneous swab jockeys, so tripling the count (for three watches) won't give you the full crew complement... but since they are somewhat illustrative of manpower requirements, and were a pain to dig up, I'll share them here anyway. First, the DDG51, then the DD(X) with notations on which stations correlate to which stations on the DDG5…

Was originally going to put this in "Other Genres" put it sci-fi so I think it belongs here . . . In any case, has anyone else out there in Herodom read David Webers "Path of the Fury" and if so, have you tried to create one of the Drop Commando's? I've tried a couple of times and just can't seem to come up with anything that I'd be willing to keep/save.

Traveller manpower requirements are based on the ships displacement tonnage, and installed tonnage of various equipment, so a conversion from DT to HERO terms is needed. that I posted a while back and can post again if needed. These figures are for military ships of 1,000 displacement tons or more Sections: Command, Engineering, Gunnery, Flight, Ships Troops, Deck Each section will have a an officer in charge and a senior nco Command: Average of 10 Engineering: 1 per 100 tons of installed drives and powerplant Gunnery: 1 per turret Battery, 2 per weapons bay, 1 per 100 tons of main weapon battery[spinal] Flight: flight crew as ne…

Has there been any explanation given as to what the Star*Guard are up to during the Alien Wars and Terran Empire eras? Did this organization simply vanish when magic faded and superheroes went away? I assume they might return as part of the Galactic Champions era. Anyone else given this matter any thought?

My computer is not cooperating... I am designing a hard SF Star hero campaign. Taking place mostly on the outer worlds of our Solar system. After scouring the web, I've found that several of the planets and their moons have organic compounds mixed with frozen methane, water ice, frozen hydrogen,ect..My chemistry knowledge is weak and I had a few questions for the collective minds on these boards: 1)Aside from these organic compounds being useful for production of plastics and petrochemicals, how useful would they be as the "basic stock" for food or hydroponic food production? 2)What process would be used to seperate the compounds from the water, hydrogen, met…

For those of you using the Terran Empire setting... who are you using as your regular bad guys? The Ackalians? The Thorgons? Criminal scum? The Terran Imperial forces themselves? Or some other antagonist? Yes, this is yet another feeble attempt to pick your brains and get new perspectives on the setting's uses

...when he already owns a comb? ...... Does anyone use holidays in their sci fi RPGs? I assume some species would utlize them more than others, but I don't believe they'd all die out.

Well, after considering the comments from the "Hyperspace Sickness" thread and consulting Star Hero, I've come up with a writeup for a generic space-opera hyperdrive system: Hyperspace Insertion/Extraction System: Extra-Dimensional Movement, anywhere in hyperspace corresponding to current realspace location, x2 mass (30 pts.) Not in a gravity field (-1/2) Requires a Skill Roll vs Hyperspace Navigation *or* two levels of luck (-1/2) Side Effects: 3d6 Drain DEX with delayed return rate (5 pts / 20 min) (-1) Costs END (-1/4) Increased END Cost: x10 END (-4) Active points: 30, Real points: 4, END cost: 30 plus: Hyperspace engines: …

Oops, forgot the poll! They're both ruthless, space-faring cyborg races who have successfully destroyed a humanoid civilization. Both display an odd combination of treachery, cunning, arrogance, and stupidity. Both want to put mankind on the Endangered Species List, although the Daleks have been known to keep human slaves and convert some of them to robomen soldiers. Despite their mechanical vulnerabilities, both races have managed to establish themselves on a wide variety of planetary types because of their sophisticated technology. So the two conquest-crazed robotic civilizations meet and decide they are in each other's way. What happens next?

(Warning: Some spoiler information below) (I am not going to go into details. I you want that buy the book.) SUPPORT HERO!!! Going into buying ALIEN WARS I really didn’t now what to expect. I knew that it took place before TERRAN EMPIRE and that it dealt with the Xenovore wars that almost made humanity extinct. Ever since I had seen the Xenovore write-up in HERO BESTIARY I had been waiting to find out more information on these baddies. So, I picked up ALIEN WARS. The first part of the book deals with the lead-up to the time period of the ALIEN WARS. You are not hand-held step by step through this section, but instead the major events that lead up to the poli…

I'm trying to come up with a way to model a character suffering from "hyperspace sickness", analagous to seasickness. I was thinking along the lines of a susceptibility, but that looks like it would either be something that the character could effectively ignore, or could be potentially fatal, depending on the character's REC. Now I'm thinking along the lines of a Physical Limitation, something like: Hyperspace sickness (infrequently, greatly): When in hyperspace, the character will suffer from headaches, nausea, and disrupted equilibrium, resulting in a penalty of -3 on any skill roll and most characteristic rolls. The effects will fade within a few minutes after ex…

As far as I know, there aren't any Star Trek type Wormholes in the Terran Empire setting, but... has anyone put them in anyways? And , how did they work out?

For those who have read Ian M. Banks Dazzling Culture Novels in general, and Excession in specific- what are your feelings about modeling a War-Prepared GSV in general, and the GSV Quietly Confident (aka Sleeper Service) in Champions? My own build treats it as an Automaton, rather than an AI, simply to get away from the idea of being limited to programs. Duplication that only duplicates some characteristics (INT, SPD, EGO, DEX, Sensors, VPP) was used to reflect the ability of the GSV to pay 'full concentration' or near it to an insane number of tasks simultaneously. I also used Multiple Naked Triggers as another way to simulate the effectively instantaenous respon…

I seem to have volunteered to run a one-shot "trial" game in the Metroid universe, and was wondering if anyone had some advice or references. Writeups would be handy, but even a website with some basic background information would be useful. On the other hand, the information given in the games and their manuals is so sparse that I really don't have to worry about contradicting it, so I'm currently planning on making it a generic space opera, taking what I can from the Metroid games, and maybe flavoring with a little "Iria: Zeiram the Animation" and "Outlaw Star" to keep things interesting. I would also appreciate any advice you might have about creating pregene…

Not sure if this fits for Star Hero, but todays Astronomy Picture of the Day shows the map of 2 million galaxies. http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html Viewing the picture, its pretty amazing how complex the galaxies look, as a non-sf look it looks like there is a pretty good chance that there is life, maybe even intelligent, elsewhere in the universe. From a sf/game perspective, looks like the possibilities are endless, at least if you can make it to the next closest galaxy.
