Well, after considering the comments from the "Hyperspace Sickness" thread and consulting Star Hero, I've come up with a writeup for a generic space-opera hyperdrive system: Hyperspace Insertion/Extraction System: Extra-Dimensional Movement, anywhere in hyperspace corresponding to current realspace location, x2 mass (30 pts.) Not in a gravity field (-1/2) Requires a Skill Roll vs Hyperspace Navigation *or* two levels of luck (-1/2) Side Effects: 3d6 Drain DEX with delayed return rate (5 pts / 20 min) (-1) Costs END (-1/4) Increased END Cost: x10 END (-4) Active points: 30, Real points: 4, END cost: 30 plus: Hyperspace engines: …

Oops, forgot the poll! They're both ruthless, space-faring cyborg races who have successfully destroyed a humanoid civilization. Both display an odd combination of treachery, cunning, arrogance, and stupidity. Both want to put mankind on the Endangered Species List, although the Daleks have been known to keep human slaves and convert some of them to robomen soldiers. Despite their mechanical vulnerabilities, both races have managed to establish themselves on a wide variety of planetary types because of their sophisticated technology. So the two conquest-crazed robotic civilizations meet and decide they are in each other's way. What happens next?

(Warning: Some spoiler information below) (I am not going to go into details. I you want that buy the book.) SUPPORT HERO!!! Going into buying ALIEN WARS I really didn’t now what to expect. I knew that it took place before TERRAN EMPIRE and that it dealt with the Xenovore wars that almost made humanity extinct. Ever since I had seen the Xenovore write-up in HERO BESTIARY I had been waiting to find out more information on these baddies. So, I picked up ALIEN WARS. The first part of the book deals with the lead-up to the time period of the ALIEN WARS. You are not hand-held step by step through this section, but instead the major events that lead up to the poli…

I'm trying to come up with a way to model a character suffering from "hyperspace sickness", analagous to seasickness. I was thinking along the lines of a susceptibility, but that looks like it would either be something that the character could effectively ignore, or could be potentially fatal, depending on the character's REC. Now I'm thinking along the lines of a Physical Limitation, something like: Hyperspace sickness (infrequently, greatly): When in hyperspace, the character will suffer from headaches, nausea, and disrupted equilibrium, resulting in a penalty of -3 on any skill roll and most characteristic rolls. The effects will fade within a few minutes after ex…

As far as I know, there aren't any Star Trek type Wormholes in the Terran Empire setting, but... has anyone put them in anyways? And , how did they work out?

For those who have read Ian M. Banks Dazzling Culture Novels in general, and Excession in specific- what are your feelings about modeling a War-Prepared GSV in general, and the GSV Quietly Confident (aka Sleeper Service) in Champions? My own build treats it as an Automaton, rather than an AI, simply to get away from the idea of being limited to programs. Duplication that only duplicates some characteristics (INT, SPD, EGO, DEX, Sensors, VPP) was used to reflect the ability of the GSV to pay 'full concentration' or near it to an insane number of tasks simultaneously. I also used Multiple Naked Triggers as another way to simulate the effectively instantaenous respon…

I seem to have volunteered to run a one-shot "trial" game in the Metroid universe, and was wondering if anyone had some advice or references. Writeups would be handy, but even a website with some basic background information would be useful. On the other hand, the information given in the games and their manuals is so sparse that I really don't have to worry about contradicting it, so I'm currently planning on making it a generic space opera, taking what I can from the Metroid games, and maybe flavoring with a little "Iria: Zeiram the Animation" and "Outlaw Star" to keep things interesting. I would also appreciate any advice you might have about creating pregene…

Not sure if this fits for Star Hero, but todays Astronomy Picture of the Day shows the map of 2 million galaxies. http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html Viewing the picture, its pretty amazing how complex the galaxies look, as a non-sf look it looks like there is a pretty good chance that there is life, maybe even intelligent, elsewhere in the universe. From a sf/game perspective, looks like the possibilities are endless, at least if you can make it to the next closest galaxy.

Okay with all the hype about the new mini-series (more like a 4-hour movie), its gotta be asked... Has anybody done any work on writing up any Battlestar Galactica stuff in Hero System? Have you designed a Viper? Made a hero version of a Cylon perhaps? Back around 2nd Ed. Hero I actually made up some Cylon Centurions and unleashed them on my group. Unfortunately I doubt I have any of that material anymore. It was all on paper alone and I am sure its long gone.

I have created an adaptation of Prime Directive (mostly based on the first edition rules) for Hero. Here is a link to my material. I plan on running this as an online game at some point in the future. Let me know what you think. Prime Directive Link

Hi all, Noticing that the SFBC is going to reprint most of Burrough's John Carter/Barsoom novles got me to wondering. Now, swords and planet is listed in Star Hero as an SF genre, but how many people see it that way? I've usually heard it described as (and thought of it as) a sub-genre of fantasy, except that you have ray-guns and aliens. And how many people here would ever do a sword & planet setting?

The Kerrinur The Kerrinur have existed as a race among the stars for hundreds of thousands of years. Their homeworld is presumed lost to all, including the Kerrinur you around the galaxy. What is known, is that Kerrinur are scattered across terrestrial worlds throughout the galaxy. The Kerrinur are a odd creature with both the properties of a plant and animal. As adults they are immobile, rooted to one spot for the rest of their lives. This is less of a problem than might be with their ability to spawn Gamelings. Racial Package 6 +3 Body 3 +3 Int 5 Extra Limbs 9 Ambidexterity 5 360* sight 5 regeneration 1 body/day 13 4" stretching: only li…

Ok, I just bought the book spacer toolkit and was about to start a campaing. My players are specialist like the Away team as in startrek in a 1.5 KM ship. They will participate in a large amount of different missions Now, I just looked at the stats of the Apocalypse on page 61 - 62 of the spacer toolkit. ------------------------------------------------ This ship has a - base defence of 25. - An outer force field of 25 PD/ED - A hull force field of 15 PD/ED Total of 80 points of endurence (note that the ship as a REC of 500 and a speed of 3) Further more - Ablative armor of 38 - Hull armor of 20 hardened. For a big total of 123 of defences w…

I'm thinking of writing up a quick Star Hero adventure to submit to Steve as a Free Download for the site (I'm not sure I'll do it, nor that he'll accept it, but I'm thinking about it), and I'd like to get a feel for what the PCs are like in the campaigns being run or played in by the folks here. Though I'll be setting it in the Terran Empire, I'll be trying to write it in such a way that it can be adapted to most settings. I don't need specifics on individual characters, just the general function they have in the galaxy so I can write in the right kind of hooks to bring them into the story. For example, the PCs in my (so far theoretical) game are members of an…

The Master List of Limitations

I've had several people inquire about the health of the Master List of Limitations, and the reason it was down. I'd like to apologize to everyone for the inconvenience, first off. Secondly, the list is back on the web. The URL is http://www.globalguardians.com/masterlists/index.html Be aware that the Master List is currently undergoing a reformatting, so not all the pages are available. Steve Ball, the Global Guardians webmaster, is working as hard on it as he can in addition to his regular job and the other pages he creates for the GG. In addition, both myself and Guardians developer David Doepke is working to complete the missing entries.…

That's right, after all, officially magic is taking a holiday during the times of the Terran Empire; a long one. Surely, however, the Earth isn't alone in once having been strong in it (The Thane are proof of that). So what races do you think were once more mystical than scientific before the big drop of mana/juice/whatever you want to call it? My own guesses include the Elpadens, on the planet Osiris. I mean, when you think about it: 1. Seemed to have 'tech' as high as Earth's at one time... but then, the Earthlings don't know the magical side of history, so that would be a fair guess at magic right? 2. They have strange artifacts laying around. 3. No one know…
