Not sure if this has been posted before, but I thought this might be great material for inspiration or pictures to use in your sci-fi games. http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/cities-of-future-artworks/

I was just wondering in various usages of the Mirror Universe has their ever been much mentioning of how the Klingon and Romulans operate in that universe?

This is a nice video about the "Four Fundamental Forces of the universe", ordered by thier relative strenght: Linked it here before, but the link got broken and it's burried to deep for the search to find it anymore. Here is the same again, this time in 6 Videos (organised as a playlist). More explanation (including the force carrier particle for each force), but he does talks a bit fast: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yv3EMq2Dgq8&list=PL9560B048F7FBCCEB

Considering how best to work out a starship piloting method much like that shown in Gene Rodenberry's Andromeda, to wit: a pilots decision(s) of routing while in slipspace effects the speed that the ship can make any specific journey. Which means, to me, that a pilot can modify the FTL travel rate (eg: a skilled pilot flies a ship at 4LY/day, whereas a less skilled pilot can only make 2LY/day, etc). So my query involves how to write out the 'base' FTL Travel power in the vessel versus the enhancement levels the pilot brings..... Thoughts, anyone? (BTW, I am looking to do this build in 5th Ed-Rev. I do not have access to 6th Edition nor do I expect to......Tha…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiTiKOy59o4 If you are running or playing in a campaign that characters sometimes find themselves in micro gees, this movie would be good to watch. It doesn't get everything about zero g right but it does a better job of it than any movie that I have seen. The plot of the movie is IMHO actually a better adventure seed than a movie plot. The number of obstacles that come up seems kind of excessive when watched on the big screen, but can I see myself throwing all those obstacles at a group of players? Oh, heck yeah. I would be interested in hearing the opinions of other people who have watched the movie.

I picked up Star Hero this morning for some idle reading and found another elementary physics error (besides the incorrect centrifugal correction to effective surface gravity already discussed): p128 says that a Dyson sphere is stable. In fact, it is unstable in precisely the same way and for precisely the same reason a ringworld is. Possibly worth noting if you're running a hard-SF game. SH needed better science editing. :-(

I'm considering using HERO for a Mass Effect game, and one of the fun features of the setting is the prevalence of personal force fields. They ablate under fire, but the user only suffers damage once the shield is fully down. The shields regenerate quickly, too, usually within seconds. Looking at the rules, though, I'm really not quite sure how to tackle this. Seems like there might be more than one way, and certainly something I'm missing. How would you build this in HERO 6E?

I was re-reading Star Hero last night and wound up writing the attached PDF. I decided that I really preferred acceleration-based movement for my starships rather than velocity-based movement, so instead of Flight I created the Propulsion Power. It costs exactly as much as Flight but has different effects. If a GM wants to use the Propulsion Power but doesn't want to rewrite his existing ships he can apply a +0 Advantage to the Flight Power: Acceleration-Based. That effectively turns Flight in to Propulsion. I haven't play-tested it yet (heck, I just wrote it last night and really haven't taken a step back to see the flaws). Maybe I'm wrong and the RAW for Star …

Back at thinking about my Semi-Hard SF campaign universe again. While designing a defensive laser gun for a ship, I thought about the Line Of Sight Advantage -- but I'm afraid it might be too powerful to use. For the gun, it's supposed to be part of a civilian courier ship's missile defense. It's a 4d6 RKA, and other space laser systems I've designed for the setting has used several multiples of Increased Maximum Range and lots of PSLs for targeting computers to get the ranges of the guns up to orbital levels -- thousands of kilometers. That was expensive -- to make a weapon accurate over 8 km it needed 20 Range levels to offset the penalties (~10 doublings from 1 to…

Here is the Alien Drone from the Aliens series, most heavily inspired by its AVP2 incarnation, as I loved that game. I will add the fluff part of the background and whatnot tomorrow. I just figured I'd leave the mechanics here in the meantime. Let me know if you see anything broken, or have any questions or anything. I'm happy to answer them. I'm still very much learning HERO, but building simple characters is fairly easy. That's why I keep going for these more challenging ones. The Multipower is the one thing I'm not sure about. Somehow, I imagine I am not using those very effectively. Note: I looked at Michael Surbrook's Xenomorph for major inspiration on ho…

Assume that the events in the movie The Last Starfighter actually did happen in the year that the movie actually takes place. The events happened exactly as depicted in the movie. Now it is x years later (I am now interested in what x actually is) and StarForce has been rebuilding and modernizing. They also realize that humans are a powerful member to add to their force and have been taking people who pass the entrance exam to serve in the Force. At the same time Xur has rebuilt his forces and is wanting to recruit humans into his forces. Here are some questions: 1 - How would this impact Earth tech and society(ies)? 2 - Which side would you choose to fight …

Im looking to run my new game in the chat room of the hero system website. I'll be there til we have about 4 people, not including myself. its a STAR HERO/CHAMPIONS story. You'll need a 400 point Chatacter, 75 Complacations. since this IS in space, you should set up your chatacters accordingly. This will be a Story driven... well story. so you'll need Skills, Perks, Talents, things like that, while also having powers. the sooner we can get player in there, the sooner we can start and the longer we can go. Hope to see you there.

I find myself working on a sci fi campaign. This campaign is meant to offer the group something more than just fantasy to play. In this process of working out the technology and the specific type of sci fi, I was wondering at how well Hero handles starship battles...

Does anyone have a simple way to determine Orbital Velocity? It doesn't need to be exact, just a decent estimate. It's one of the things listed with every planet in Star Hero, yet it's one of the few things the book doesn't have a instructions to figure out (unless I'm just missing it).

With the advent of the Robotech RPG Tactics Kickstarter I have started pondering the idea of an RPG using that setting. I do not like the Palladium system so I was wondering if anyone has done any work on converting the mecha (assorted veritechs, Zentraedi battle pods, etc.) into the Hero system? The minis and rules for the Kickstarter look really good, but it is in reality a miniatures combat game more akin to 40K than a true RPG. The miniatures look cool so it'd be nice to use them in a Hero System campaign.

I started playing around with the Star Hero star system creation relying mostly on random rolls. I ended up with one of my planets being a Gas Giant (mass 85) circling a M0V (hot Red Dwarf) and it has the Fast Rotation Anomaly and only has an 8 hour day. There is a note in the Fast Rotation description about how very large planets with fast spin may have perceptibly weaker gravity at the equator due to the centrifugal effect and there is an example using Earth. The example problem's solution is a decimal (.0009 meters per second squared, or .009%). For my gas giant the sum was 1.04. Am I correct in reading that the planet would be 100% reduction and thus a full 1G lighter…

OK, I've been looking through through the Star Hero Species packages and found that they didn't have anything for Ape-like aliens. True, that may have been on purpose but I've decided to whip up my own remedy for that and would like to share it with you folks. Anyone that wants to use this and any other Package Deals I put into this thread feel free. I also would like feedback as well. Art any rate, for your consideration I give you the Simianoid. Simianoid Package Deal Simianoids are aliens that evolved from primate stock- monkeys, gorillas, chimpanzees and the like. While they are in many ways similar to humans, and may even have an appearance that is close…

This is a stupid thing to attempt as BattleTech is woefully absurd. I would suggest you not take it too seriously. Using the PD and ED stats for Metal Armor and modifying it slightly to compensate for a higher technology, ED having 15% value than PD. BA is Battle Armor and BM is BattleMech. PD ED BODY HERO Mech WPN 120mm Cannon BA, Light 0.401-0.750 tons 8 9 6 9 (Destroyed) 5 (Crippled) BA, Medium 0.751-1 ton 9 10 7 9 (Destroyed) …
