Hiya all, I just picked up HeartQuest and upon first look through, it looks like a pretty good book. It got me thinking about the anime genre, and was curious if anyone out there uses the Hero system to RP in anime? I know that Guardians of Order has an anime game (Big Eyes, Small Mouth), but have not tried it yet. Polaris

Hi Folks: I am currently putting together a larger than life spy action game for convention play called The Team From H.E.R.O, and have been trying to decide how to handle gadgets. One piece of equipment that I think the team should have are very sophisticated short range radios that are hard to detect. This allows players to share information without a whole lot of risk. As for other gadgets, I can see four ways of handling it: 1) Assign each character specific gadgets on their character sheets. 2) Offer the characters a list of specific gadgets they can choose from. 3) Let each character loosely describe the one or two gadgets their chara…

Hey. I am thinking about trying to run an Alternate History game based very loosely upon the French and Indian War in early America. Something along the lines of the Last of the Mohicans movie with some "other" material thrown in. I am wondering if anyone knows of any internet resources that would come in handy?

If you haven't heard of this movie, it's about people who have the power to steal luck, either by touching someone or taking a photo of them. They compete against each other in clandestine games of chance, some of which are extremely dangerous and high stakes. Here's a trailer: http://www.apple.com/trailers/lions_gate/intacto.html I was thinking of different ways this power could be done in Hero and this is what I came up with: Luck Stealing: Transfer Luck 4d6 (target's luck to character's luck), Can Transfer Maximum of 40 points, (AP 68); (RC 68). This would be the simplest way to do it, but you have to talk your GM into allowing Luck to be drained …

I just saw an anime movie I had purchased, but had not watched for a while. Why on Earth was i foolish enough to put off wtaching Voices of a Distant Star? This movie, which was done by a very small crew, is utterly inredible. In one sense, it's a story fo a mecha pilot and the boy she left behind 9and it does have some incredible battle seuqences), but on the other hand it's a wrenching story of the effects of relativity on a relationship. Advanced cellphones can send messages light-years into space, but they can only travel at the speed of light so a message can take years top get from Sirius to Earth. Not to mention the necha are very cool -- especially the c…

I watched The Howling DVD the other night and it still looks good compared to CGI. What struck me was that I never before noticed the scathing satire in it. Its main target was late ‘70s to early ‘80s self-help gurus and the fad theory that most mental illness was caused by repressed impulses. The Colony was for werewolves in therapy! In the commentary, the writer and director said they were using the werewolves as a metaphor for what happens when no impulses are kept in check. They also said they hated the smiley-face sticker, which is why they had Quist (Robert Picardo) mark his territory with it. Now I have to think about how to draw adventure ideas out o…

I haven;t decided on things like power and technologylevel, whether there will be magic, etc., but I just got a weird idea. Can you imagine a game world in which the USa had been dissolved and each of the 50 states was in indpeendnent country? This would probably only happen if technology, transportation and communications had broken down to the point that such a large country could no lger be held together. And the sytats would not remain independent long if the saem phenomenon had not happened in the rest of the world. Transportation would be animal-profelled, sailing ships, and the like. Weapons might be the remnants of the weapons that exist today utnil the ammun…

I don't know how full a pciture of a wordl you can get from three episodes of a techno-fantasy series, but over the last month I did get to see the frist three episodes of a new series called Full Metal Alchemist that looks like it has a very intguing premise. basically, in this world the preeminent form of magic is Alchemy, which has a strict set of rules. basically if you want to make something with Alchemy you have to trade value-for-value. the heroes are a pair of brothers who tried to ressurect their mother when children 9they were both extaordinarily gifted) and got it diisastrously wrong; the older brother lost onbe arm and one leg, the younger borther lost h…

I was wondering if anyone had any idea on how to write up Kohaku, the angel heroine of CLAMP's classic manga Wish. Acutally, there are a lot of chaarcters in that series who would make interesting HERO characters, if unusual to deal with. After all, you wouldn;t expect Satan's eldest son to flee to Earth and adopt domesticity, or expect a pair of black cats to run into busty woman-demons who have several annoying habits. One could do a whole website or web-book based solely on characters from CLAMP's manga, andnot just those series that have been animated. The CLAMP School Detectives would interesting NPCs to encounter, as would any skilled Angelic layer player or a …

I was going through a bunch of my old Champions stuff last night and came across some files that I had printed on a campaign idea called Waylords. Does anyone remember this and is there anything else out there about it? Basically you could either add the Waylords as villians or make a full campaign about them. Their main ability was that they could access the Way, an extra-dimensional highway to any world. It was a very cool idea and very well written. If anyone knows anything more about it I would appreciate any info or websites. Thanks, Matthew

Someone suggested (on another Forum) the idea of "Reality TV Hero." It got me to thinking... how could some Reality TV concepts be applied to some of the more popular genres? Some ideas to get people started: The Amazing Race in the Galactic Federation. Trading Spaces between two superhero teams. Murder in Small Town X in a fantasy setting. Anyone else?

A while back I considered starting a game set in the Megatokyo webcomic universe. After re-reading the comics several time I concluded that some of the action is seen through a Calvin and Hobbes type of "reality filter" How would you handle this? A Psych Lim perhaps?

did you see the December 2003 issue of "Handloader"?? THere is an article on the british .577 "manstopper" pistols. I have always liked the idea of them for a pulp era character. a 5 shot revolver firing a 450 grain (just over one ounce) bullet .61 Inches in diameter at 750 feet per second. Almost exactly 2 times as powerful as the .45 ACP. OK, I am a happy Gun Geek today.
