Iuz the Evil
God forbid Netflix attempt to appeal to a large demographic swath. It’s almost like they’re operating with some sort of profit motive in mind. Shocking. I just wish they’d do a better job of pandering. Top Gun redux was awesome. More like that works. They're actually trying to appeal to a bunch of little demographic groups, while hoping that they magically get a large demographic swath. The result is a bunch of underwhelming programs, and the occasional cake-based show. Ragitsu, Iuz the Evil and Lawnmower Boy 1

Old Man
Speaking of DeSantis' human trafficking, here is the brochure given to the migrants fraudulently promising assistance and employment: As a reminder, despite the histrionics of some, these Venezuelan migrants are legally in the U.S. pending the processing of their asylum requests. "This was a purposeful derailment designed to prevent people from complying with federal immigration policies." Furthermore, before they boarded the planes, Self revealed, "the migrants were processed by agents of the Department of Homeland Security who listed falsified addresses on the migrants' paperwork. Agents apparently chose random homeless shelters all across the country from Washington to Florida to list the migrants' mailing addresses even when told by the migrants that they have no address in the U.S." End-run to get asylum seekers rejected? According to the paperwork provided to them, she said, "the migrants are required to check in with ICE office nearest to the fake address chosen for them by DHS or be permanently removed from the United States, with some of them required to check in" as early as Monday. "It could not be clearer that this is an attempt to ensure that these people are ordered removed even as they try as hard as they can to comply with the instructions provided to them," Self said. "There is no other reason to list as someone's mailing address a homeless shelter in Tacoma, Washington, when they ship him to Massachusetts. It is sickeningly cruel throwing obstacles in the way people fleeing violence and oppression, some of whom walked through 10 countries in the hopes of finding safety."--- Old Man, TrickstaPriest, Matt the Bruins and 2 others 2
Pariah
Hmmm. “As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. unclevlad
My bloody freaking gosh............... Asylum seekers aren't citizens and they don't have the same rights, but this feels like a conspiracy to violate civil rights. If not that, there seem to be fraud elements. And since it's involving interstate transport? It's federal. It's a LONNNNNNNG way to go, but...this could lead to DeSantis' conviction. His participation seems indisputable. Under Florida law, a convicted felon can't hold office (among other things.) This can be restored...but after the sentence is served. This would NOT preclude a run for President, but one would think that he'd be far, far too easy a target in both the primaries and (if nominated) the general election. Pariah
Ron DeSantis's participation is only indisputable because he's been taking credit for it from the very beginning.
unclevlad
Which is part of what I find so potentially, grandly, ironic. In trying to score political points, DeSantis *may* have killed his political career completely. As I said, it's a long ways to go before that happens. Sociotard
Oh, piss nuggets. Russia announced a partial mobilization, which means 300,000 reservists. https://m.jpost.com/breaking-news/article-717706 In better news... On the 17th Russia tried crossing the Dnipro with a barge loaded with soldiers and weapons. Ukraine sank it. On the 19th Russia tried it again. Ukraine sank that one too. I assume Russia has had successes too, that weren't listed, but it still gives me hope. https://en.defence-ua.com/events/ukraines_military_sank_the_second_barge_with_russian_troops_during_their_attempt_to_force_the_dnipro_river-4280.html TrickstaPriest

It's about reinforcing a perception. Elsewhere, the in-box this morning had one from NYT, promoting a 30 minute video about the attack on democracy. I presume it's paywalled, so no link. The 2 major points: --voter suppression efforts aren't the #1 issue. They're anti-democratic, they're probably racist...but their impact is far from clear. --the bigger problem is a concerted effort to distort the voting process at its very source...the polling places. By bringing in poll workers. Training them to challenge voters *extensively*, to create the perception that widespread voter fraud *is* happening...when the fraud is being performed by the poll workers. And this is targetable...election results are tallied at the precinct level, so you challenge in heavily Democratic precincts. There's never been evidence of widespread fraud...so, well, heck, we can't have that, so let's CREATE THE EVIDENCE. Oh, and of course, it's in all these Democratic districts.
