E-Sports are quite popular; they even have their own section on the msn.com homepage. That popularity, combined with the current fighting in Ukraine and some Cyberpunk ideas, produced the following RPG idea today (warning: this can get really dark really fast). E-Wars Imagine today or the near future, but with a neural implant and software that allows a remote ‘Gamer’ to control another person through that implant. The person with the implant must give over control (“HotShot357 is requesting control. Accept?”) and can resume control (with some difficulty). This is used willingly by ordinary people to be more effective in local conflicts, mostly…

This was supposed to be a complete book, but I didn't have the oomph to finish it (yet) so I post it here for review/feedback. I love the WW2 setting so that became the emphasis for this. Could be any setting, really. Skirmish HERO.pdf

It was interesting from a nerd POV, but someone had way too much time on their hands.

I used to, and it had both advantages and disadvantages - for example the Champions characters had to play by Dark Champions when visiting. What are your experiences?

So I got to thinking about my figure collection and Hero System. Naturally I want to use my figs as much as possible, so I thought up a game of super-powered airborne infantry invading France in 1944. The characters will be under 5th ed. revised, 250-300 points worth of superpowered individuals, but with human weaknesses to bullets, strangulation and other "natural" means of dying. Think of the Godlike RPG when imagining characters. So the player characters drop into Normandy in the first session, and have to link up with their HQ. Combats will be handled with miniatures on terrain, and other stuff will be ToTM. I will be designing the characters for t…

So I started playing this video game the other day and was totally drawn in by the "vintage" take on the classic Call of Duty formula. I like the stylistical choices in the game, especially the first mission where dudes are plain-clothes, armed with assault weapons and going after enemies of the State. The bug bit me hard. So I gained back my tabletop motivation (after burning out on multiple projects) and started thinking of ways to do this latest Black Ops game on the tabletop. I'll start working on a campaign guidelines document, but I was hoping to steal you guys' ideas and then make the document with input from other people. What d…

This thread is for material that evokes a "Dark Champions" feeling. Guidelines: *Anything 1950s and onward, please. Before this, and the feel of "Pulp" becomes greater. *Near-future is okay. Too far into the future, however, and we're in Star Hero territory. ---

So I've been playing this video game series a lot lately, and I started thinking about implementing it on the tabletop. How would one design the various drones and special equipment that's used in the game?

I haven't really followed what is state-of-the-art or popular in firearms in a couple of decades. Where's a good place to catch up?

Every year a mysterious Maffia boss forces some tough people to run the Death Race in Hudson City. Lots of money in bets around the world, hidden cameras in the cars and the streets, thousands of spectators, the police trying to stop them or infiltrate a driver, drivers running for their lives or the money or trying to discover and kill this boss. Well, I only have this idea, but could grow into an adventure. Drawbacks I see so far, which is the race course to follow and why the police could not stop them with helicopters.

Yeah another one. This one by Steven Jay Ruben. I honestly have to give it 4 out of 5. And the only reason it looses the star is even some of the newer material is dated, though you can't blame the writer on that part. The book covers all the movies up to the latest (No Time to Die). It covers the movies themselves in detail, all the actors who played Bond in the official films (so no Woody Allen guys). Not only does it cover the characters but has some info on the actors themselves (even if it's a short blurb on one actor who later appeared in Die Hard). A full listing of all the Bond women by film. There is a nice mix of b/w and color photos (including some …

These are military templates, converted to 6th edition from my "Global Task Force Omega vs. the World Terror Front" Danger International game. I haven't run any of these through Hero Designer, so there may be errors. And there may be straight up military errors as well; feedback and corrections from other prior service members here are welcomed. (The document is here and that's what I'll keep most up to date.) Military Hero Adapted from GTFO vs. WTF. Any errors are mine; any assistance correcting them is appreciated! Stat Blocks Choose one from the spreadsheet. Total Cost: 65 points …

In a change from my usual questions about robots, I'm wondering if anyone has any writeups for either a Boston Dynamics "big dog" or an EOD robot. I'll write them up myself (and post them here) if no one else does, but hopefully someone else has something they can share.

I am running a two shot adventure for two players. I picked Dark Champions set in 1980's looking for a spy feel. I did this exercise a few times and made for some great adventures. I will do the opening scene and some background. The next poster will advance to the next scene and so on. Please only post one at a time, don't post back to back, but you can post more then once to advance the story. I would like to see where we can go with this. The story cannot get too deep, lot's of action and adventure should ensue if you want to help. The two recruits wake up hung over in a bar. They stumble out into the tavern and see fifteen people dead. All hav…

I haven't run a dark style superhero game in 30 years. I have mainly stuck to Fantasy Hero games and am looking for some advice on running one. I would like some advice one how YOU run your game. What elements do YOU use. What things do YOU pay attention to. What things should I avoid. What do YOUR players enjoy and hate. Thank you in advance.

I’ve been reading about 3D-printed guns lately, and it got me to wondering if they would have any differences in game qualities from a standard firearm of similar caliber. Maybe an increased chance of a misfire or doing a damage class less? Perhaps poorer accuracy or a slightly different STR minimum? Has anyone on the forums ever fired one or might have an educated opinion?

So I created a new public club (hopefully wont get a take down notice/change the name notice from the HERO group) called the Adventurers Club(link). The idea is, it's a place where people can post about their heroes and other things PC character related. While I originally thought of the club for superheroes, any hero should be welcome. There are forum categories for people selling, showing off, or requesting artwork("Press, paparazzi, and fan clubs for the heroes") and Social activities ("At The Bar") like best hero design contests, best costume contest, best backstory contest, meetups at conventions, open gaming invites, etc. For use in a campa…

Hello fellow Heroes! It has been nearly 10 years since I last worked with HERO (5th ed) but I have some questions on something in the Heroic Tier. I am trying to understand how the Mass rules for armor works. I am more familar with 5e but I think it would probably be the same in 6e so answers for either should be fine. My understanding of the Weight Table (5e /p468) is you get the mass based on the DEF and Activation Roll of the armor. For the purpose of this DEF is the average of the PD/ED value of armor, right? So 2 PD/ 6 ED armor would be considered DEF4 on the chart? Thank you all for your help!

Given what we are seeing in the real world around the world, what do you think Hudson City would be like this year? If riots and looting broke out, would the Harbinger of Justice start a killing spree? How might other heroes of the city and villains react to the protests and riots?

altering Abbadon and Jihad (from Dark Champions) I like the concepts and stats for these two baddies but certain elements of their backgrounds won't work for me or my players. The approach I’m considering now is to recast them as Evil 80’s movie Commies. I’d change the PLRL into the PEOPLE’S League for REVOLUTION and Liberation or something like that. Erase references to the part of the world referred to in Dark Champions and replace those with Central America and the Caribbean. The terrorists want the US out of their home region and the capitalist governments there overthrown. I’d need to create a new name for Jihad and possibly for Abbadon. …

A new Here There Be Monsters character...dubbed "old lady Cthulhu face" by a certain player, a creepy possible addition to a party of Monster Hunters. Melissa is descended from one of the various Elder Thing tainted bloodlines. She physically appears normal from the outside (most of the time), but an autopsy would reveal that her physiology is inhuman and disturbing. Those with supernatural senses also recognize her as being of Elder Thing origins. From a practical perspective she is incredibly durable, not invulnerable but very difficult to injure, and her mind and body are resistant to external manipulation. When her true nature is revelead, one or more high…

Developed a new vignette for Here There Be Monsters, The Tears of Tierrasola Set in the scenic suburb Tierrasola, the initial kick off is a sudden infestation of Revenants. The player characters will be an experienced Hunter, and a high school kid who is more than he appears swept up in the action.
