How many superheroes use technology that either comes from the distant past or from the distant future? I don't mean things like super-archers or swordmasters -- arrows and swords are still used today, though not in battle by soldiers. I mean things like lightsabers, magic items from the distant past, and things you usually see in sicnece fiction or fantasy. Are these the superhero staples I thought they were?

Hey folks, I'm looking for power ideas or constructs for a champions character. The character's (a disillusioned ex-super patriot) main power is loosely defined as "Superhuman Reflexes." Besides all the obvious stuff (high DEX, SPD, Etc...) I was wondering if their are any creative or interesting power constructs or ideas based on reflexes anyone could share or suggest that has been used in the past. Thanx in advance, MANCER

Day and night and then day again, working non-stop, 27 hours a day (they have different hours per day here in Japan) but it's finally done... well, the Beta one is anyways. Hero Helper v1.0 What is it? you ask. It's a Die Roller. It's a Name Maker. It's a Disad Picker. It's a Combat Rater. and It's an All-Purpose Origin Maker. I have only tested it on my Virtual Windows on my Mac so I can't say it will work on a real Windows machine. It does work on my Mac running OS X (if there are any Mac Heads out there). I think I worked out all of the bugs but I'm sure you will let me know if there are any that crop up. It is a HUGE program (u…

Here's the thing, I want a character who can triangle leap back and forth between two surfaces or multi-hop along the ground or multihop and then slam into an opponent- in other words, I want Toad! Why not allow for a-f leaps? Make them non accurate and the user has to roll to hit each target hex, failed roll means no more leaps that phase. What would be so wrong or abusive about this?

While they are alluded to in CU, I haven't seen any write-ups. Is there any 4th edition supp that has any of these guys written up? Maybe any homebrews? I can't remember the composition of them off hand either.

. . . finding a thread on the old boards? You seem to be an expert on finding old threads. . . (makes Persuasion roll) I had posted a Hero conversion of the Villians & Vigilantees DNAgents character 'Surge'. I think it was on the old 'Champions' forum.

I am an old gamer...i still have my 3 copies of the original champions at my parents house. However... I am leaping back into Champs and want 5th edition. I have the champions 5th edition already ordered and was wondering if most thought buying the main Heroes 5th book would be beneficial. I am putting together a gritty pseudoreality capmaign so I htink maybe 5th might be good to have, but what extra does it really grant? thanks for the input bb

Here's a partial definition of a PC I was thinking of building. I don't think there's anything wrong per se with the concept and AFAIK the char is built according to the rules, but it definitely has some stop-sign potential. Most especially, besides potentially having to take game time to map out a substantial VPP, if the player is allowed unfettered access to the base form in a non-combat environment (i.e. most of the time) he can throw a wrench in any scenario in an eyeblink. I've tried to keep that pretty much reigned in with the multiform restrictions and the bit about consulting the GM before using this form; as I mention in the background, use of this form should un…

Alternate beginning to the "age of superheroes"

What if the Philidelphia Experiment began the "Age of Heroes?" For those of you unfamiliar with it, the Philidelphia Experiment was supposedly a project by the government after WW2 to make a ship invisible to radio. I don't know much about what happened, but the ship became Desolidified, two people jumped overboard into a time warp, and after that it bacame even crazier, involving travel to the distant futture, reverse aging, conscience transfer, etc. It certainly was a large enough event to cause a rip in the Space/Time continuum, letting in cosmic energies, and ushering in the "Age of superhumans". It could also a good way for GMs to avoid the Nazis in their continuity.…

I would welcome a good general purpose character sheet for my upcoming game. Next weekend I will be creating characters with my players. If you have any specialized sheets or other GM gaming aids, those would be welcome as well. BTW, where can I get a copy of the HERO resource kit? It's not listed in the online store and no one near me carries it. Thanks in advance!!!!

There was an episode of Gilligan's Island where some of the castaways got (tempoary) super-powers from irraidated vegetables. Gilligan got super strength, Lovey super speed, and Mary Ann enhanced senses. Let's forget the vegetables. If, on an alternate Earth, the unnamed island had been in the fallout footprint of nuclear bomb testing, and the seven had Marvelesque radiation accidents, what powers would each get?

http://www.nytimes.com/2003/08/17/magazine/17BOUT.html (registration required, but it's free) It's a New York Times profile of a man alleged to be the world's biggest illegal arms dealer. There's also a bit in there on Trans-Dniester, an ex-Soviet splinter run by criminals, ex-Communists, and an oddly-named corporation who's main resources is a giant ex-Red Army base that was used for tests on the effects of radioactivity on plants...

One of my players is going to play an ex-black ops agent turned hero. He refuses to take code vs. killing, although he swears he will not be a killer. So..... ATTENTION LAWYERS: In the unlikely event a hero does manage to kill someone in a super battle, how would you deal with it? Evaluate proper use of force/deadly force like a policeman? Vigilante? Joe citizen just trying to help out? Can you think of anything else that isn't already covered in the books? (Mr. Steve Long, that's your cue...... ;-) ) I suppose it would depend on the individual situation and whether or not the heroes action were justified. In an old game, our team managed to kill two …

Wanted to bounce this idea off the list, to do some "reality checking". The concept is- 1)A modern day superhero setting (post 9/11). 2)"Metahumans" are pretty new-there is NO metahuman known that has powers older than two years old. However... 3)The oldest of metahumans are at about a quarter to a third of the power level of Superman or such. 4)Every metahuman, without exception, has either gone villan or hero at a 10/1 (villan/hero) ratio, in one form or another. 5)The GM is going to prohibit player time travel, but there will be an NPC that's going to come from the future, and 9/12/2001 is the "hard limit barrier"-nobody can travel backwards in time pas…

I seem to recall an old thread I satrted (but can;t find now) about how to model a character whose main superpower is a 1400 MPH fastball, turning an ordinary baseball into a projectile capable of blasting through brick walls, steel plate and people in power armor. I'd like to see how the attack would be written up so that I can write up this character and submit it. other than his pitching ability, he's mainly a skill-based villain who is essentially a "free agent" killer for hire. How muich damage would a 1400 MPH fastball do? If it missed, would it do the same damage to whatever it did hit (It's got to hit SOMETHING)? Can it be Missile Deflected like a bullet…

Years ago (and I do mean "years ago") I started doing conversions from popular media to HERO. The first two I did (and I'm not sure which came first) was Battle Angel and the M-66. Well, I finally have gotten to them in my quest to convert all 450-475+ adaptions on my website to 5th Edition. So, here's the 5th Edition version of Battle Angel. Note the color text hasn't been changed much from the original write-up, which is why it might seem sparse and/or primitive compared to what I try to do know. But hey, I had to start somewhere. Enjoy. BATTLE ANGEL Val CHA Cost Roll Notes 40 STR 30 17- Lift 6400 kg; 8d6 HTH Damage 33 DEX 69 16- OCV: 11/DCV: 11 25 CON 30 14-…

I'm in the process of creating a Who's Who of important people in my new campaign's main city (Pacific City) for the players. It's basically a "Handbook of the Marvel Universe"-style document with vital statistics, a brief bio and known abilities for each of the significant people the PCs might run into (the Mayor, the head of the special anti-supervillain police division, the important business icons, famous scientists, etc...). I'm also including a picture of each. Now, since I have ZERO artistic ability, I've basically been using pictures from random comic books that I either scan in myself or find on the web. A scan of Lois Lane made a great "female power exec…

I'm putting this here 'cause I never seem to come up with a hero design fast enough for the big Hero Challenge thread, and there's already at least two unanswered challenges in that chain... So. I double-dog-dare you guys to write up a hero based on this drawing: http://wheoum.com/alien/canadaguy.gif

Hi. Keith Curtis sent this to me and I thouhgt that I'd post it. (Thanks Keith!) If you're SOB preview map looks bad -- here's what you need to do. In Acrobat 5 (I am not sure if this works in 4 or not). Go to Preferences and then to Display. About 1/2 way down, you'll see "Smoothing". Make sure that Use CoolType is on and also check the "Smooth Line Art" box. That should fix any display problems you might be having. In the final release of SOB, I'll try and see if I can save this preference "on". Thanks -- Andy Mathews Art Director, Hero Games
