OK, I am not having this problem right now, but JIC! I made a NPC, assassin type with Deadly Blow +2d6 KA. Questions: Does this apply to ranged attacks like bow or slings? If I have magic weapon that is 0 End and Armor Piercing do I prorate the Damage? How Much? Do I count both the 0 End and AP (therefore making it + 1d6)? (To me that is making having a magic weapon MUCH less useful as a normal weapon will add the 2d6 ) Any other suggestions!

Well, this idea might have been used before. What if the PCs are not the good guys but some baddies? First problem, for me, is how much of evil are they allowed to be without spoiling the fun. Some things are not fun in a game, I won't like the PCs raping peasants and beating baby seals. One solution is "comedic evil", but I want a serious approach. Another ideas are "evil can turn against itself, sometimes" or "you see, the minions of the Dark Lord are not so different from people working for unethical corporations and bosses they hate just beacause the money". So, inspired by the Turakian Age, I have more or less this outline for a long adventure, an…

I'm going a bit closer to sub-Tolkien D&D style fantasy than I usually do. One of the things that that requires are Tolkien-esque PC "races". I've got a handle on Elves as being more like Moorcock's Melniboneans, with influences from Poul Anderson, Terry Pratchett and others. I'm struggling with Halflings and Dwarves though. For Dwarves, there's CS Lewis, Pratchett, Snow White(!) and various minor sources. For Halflings there's Tolkien - and D&D. Nelwyns from Willow could be either - and that's the problem. Why have both? (And don't get me started on Gnomes!) OK, Dwarves live underground and are miners, while Halflings live on the surface a…

While traveling your party finds a door with a cat on it. The door is made of wood, is unattached to any wall, can't be lifted, radiates strange Teleportation magic, and doesn't seem to be locked. It is also the equivalent of Saterday, and you can smell food coming from the door itself. What will your character do? (Taken from the light novel and anime "Restaurant From Another World", but it really doesn't matter exactly what the door is.)

Just asking, has anyone written up Truck-Kun, the living truck which sends normal people to another world by ramming into them?

Hi, heroes. I was wondering which, if any, published ages from Fantasy hero would look most familiar to players of D&D or similar games? I have Valdorian, Turakian and Atlantan age books. I see some other sourcebooks like the grimoire etc. What Age are those books made for?

RPGnet has a thread where you make a NPC per day over the month of January. So as an experiment I have been making FH NPCs based on 125 pts. And I have been finding it .. hard to make a viable NPC. After stats and powers and Magesight. I really have little left for skills. So is this a Feature? it has all been Mages so far but ALL have SPD 2 because of cost, no skill levels, and just a bare minimum of skills! Should I eliminate the Magesight? It does cost 17 pts and makes sense for a more advanced ability. Or should I just go as is and let PCs get Skills quickly at the start as that would be something they would logically hav…

The closest things I was able to find that were even vaguely similar: Boil Liquid (HSG 133): uses Change Environment to raise the Temperature Level of a container of liquid Multi-Purpose Energy Weapon (*cough*Phaser*cough*; HSEG 191): "project[s] a low-power burst at a rock or metal wall to provide heat in cold climates" Let me make my visualization of the effect clear, this will be easier if you know GURPS Magic (Heat, M74). I want a spell that will gradually raise the temperature of a non-living object up to one cubic meter by... let's say... one Temperature Level (20 degrees Fahrenheit) per Phase. Takes a while to get to really high levels, but i…

I've been thinking about letting/encouraging PCs to be the major monsters in the campaign. "People" like the Dragon, or the Undead Lord. Naturally, I need a set of monster types to pick from. A dozen or so would be ideal. They should be smart/dangerous enough to travel around and do things - not just lurk in a cave. So, aside from the two I listed, what others would be suitable. I suppose an Orc would be suitable, if they were capable of leading a horde of their fellows. A Troll, or Ogre? They would need to be fairly clever examples of the kind, and have an agenda. Human villains are obvious - but not really what I am looking for here. I suppose I could …

After extensive study, including watching testing on shows like Forged in Fire, I have come to the conclusion that it is very likely that the armor (and weapon) stats used in pretty much every fantasy game published is just not right. For example, I've long used armor piercing on bodkin arrow heads to represent all that force on a small point. But watching real life archery and testing archery against various armors, either the bows aren't doing nearly the damage listed in games, or they aren't actually armor piercing. Also, armor seems to have been much more protective in real medieval combat than in fantasy movies and games. A fully plate weari…

A gift for Fantasy HERO campaign designers who, like me, are tired of "Well, that's the way D&D does it." There is, after all, other Fantasy. There are even other Fantasy games. I spent several years writing and developing for Exalted, White Wolf Game Studio's game of epic Fantasy -- one of whose enunciated design goals was, "This is not D&D." Inspirations ranging from ancient epics such as the Iliad to modern anime and wuxia. Anyway, toward the end of my involvement with Exalted I wrote a few country descriptions for a project that never came together, leaving them as fanwork. Here's one of them. It is not only a glimpse into the game's setting, Creat…

In my setting, there are a small number of "gaze attacks", which are what they sound like -- creature (or caster) looks at their target, and the target is (usually) affected; think Dracula's Mind Control, Medusa's petrifying gaze, or Cyclops from the X-Men's optic blasts. I'm trying to build a defense that only covers gaze attacks. The problem is, these things are all over the map -- Blasts, Flashes, RKAs, Mental Blasts, Mental Illusions, Mind Control, Transforms... you get the idea. I need something that isn't insanely expensive but does the job. I considered Damage Negation, but even if I bought Gaze Damage Negation, it doesn't cover Flashes, Transforms, etc…

After a LOONNNGGGGGG hiatus from running a fantasy hero game, I'm in the early stages of creating a campaign where the characters will eventually be entering the realm of the Dreaming Child. He appears as a young boy (age 12-14ish) who has shiny black skin, hair, and eyes. He's basically a minor Power in the planes that can project himself into the minds of sleeping characters, or create lesser avatars of himself to be physically present in material realms. I'm looking for ideas about how this could work. The dreams for the most part would be non-lethal, but will be a big part of the story and provide clues to what the group should be d…

As I have a Large collection of old Modules from D&D and elsewhere, I plan to use some in my game as enticements for my players! So some entries Ruins of the City of Tenryk, old capitol of the Tenryk Empire that was overrun by Goblyns and is now surrounded by a dark goblyn infested forest (This is one I don't have any material for, but I love the idea as it is a common trope) Phantom Pirate Isle (inspired by a skeleton infested island from an Old Adventurers Club!) Ghost Castle on the coast of Ruecha. (I plan to use an Oriental Adventure module about a ghost castle) Ruins of Dorethal (this one is in the module I a…

Humanity being the wonderful creature we are love any reason that we can obtain to celebrate. Among the greatest of these reasons is holidays. There are many reasons for such days, ranging from simple people decided to mark this day special for some lost reason (traditional excuses) to more complex examples involving a conglomeration of different groups that are intermingled together. This could include the extended continuation of some one-time event. While most of the time fantasy campaigns will essentially use RL holidays and reskin them in some form, this doesn't need to be the case. I would like to hear about some of the celebrations/holidays that have been cr…

So, one of the more enjoyable parts from Matt Forbeck's original Western Hero that I managed to expand on was the bits he explained how to do, like "how to ride a horse off a cliff." It basically covered cool Western schtick, moves that people do in Westerns and how to simulate that in the Hero system. It was fun to work on and hopefully useful to GMs and players. What are some Fantasy schticks that could be written up? Some classic moves. I mean, I'm not sure it counts because its a one-off, but "sliding down stairs on a shield" from the woeful Two Towers movie might be one. Swapping hands with your sword could be one.

So outside the Basin states are other lands. I am keeping this simple, as the aim is that these are places to visit, but not set a campaign in. BUT any suggestions or ideas will be welcome!

This is a thought experiment. Assume you are in a game. Gallon/Galon (the spelling isn't standardized) is a small castle in a mediaeval style setting. It consists of a keep, a surrounding wall, a modest gatehouse and some outbuildings (inside the wall). Who is your character, what are they doing there and what do they want? Your options are pretty much whatever you want, although you should stay within mediaeval-ish fantasy parameters. Try to remain compatible with previous posters. You can of course ask for clarifications, but things are pretty open.

As others have commented, having the Gods (Goddesses) demonstrate their power from time to time helps in breathing life into the world. To that end I wish to give each deity at least one sacred location, a place where their power is seen! So here is a list of Deities, please help me get a sacred spot for each. Note: none should be in a city location. This is an out of the way location, that the god/dess has chosen for what ever reason! Note I have done two-

I remember that there was a Sourcebook for RPGs for the Original Willow film back in the day, that was written by Allen Varney? As I remember the book, it was thin, and had stat blocks for the Movie Characters (for which system, I forget), and had a lot of info on the various gods, and some description of a couple of kingdoms. I guess now they can or will flesh it out more? As for the original Movie, I was ambivalent, but the first use of "morphs" on film, was one of the moments where I could accept the magic as real.

Hello All, I just watched the classic 1963 Jason and the Argonauts. And in it has the skeleton fight. Watching it as a Hero player it strikes me that in Hero terms, those skeletons were stunned. What do you guys think, should skeletons have to be bought with Takes No Stun?

I've converted the profession package deals (warrior, rogue, priest, wizard) from Fantasy Hero 1e to 6th edition, in Hero Designer. The templates themselves can be found here. Any non Hero Designer related discussion of them can happen here; if there are issues with them, you can probably bring them up here as well, though it might be better to post on the Hero Designer board and "at" me in the thread. The package deals include prefabs for the "choose one from group A" types of abilities. The ability groups were pretty easygoing; most of them included examples that modified the ability groups for characters outside of the basic package's purview. …
