Designing a mage mentalist villain, and part of his shtick is he is always impeccable. Always dressed to the nines, never a ruffled collar, or a crease in the wrong place, every bit of hair in the right place, not even rain or wind can upset his style. You know the James Bond of the movies, makeup artists and wardrobe replaced by magic. I was thinking three slots: For the attire Gucci is Jealous: Instant Change Transform, clothing only (2d6 minor I think). Should there be a minor bonus for any type of clothing (+1/4)? For the composure (Perfect Hair, never a wrinkle, so forth…) Image is Everything: Transform, perfect composure (2d6 Cosmetic), Co…

Steve-O So, the new reprint. Is it going to be exactly the same as the book I own right now? Or is it going to include errata? Or more? I was about to go through my book with a pen to fix errata, and realized I'd rather spend the $40 for a new book if you're going to do it for me. What's the word? Thanks in advance. -cK

I'm working on building a shapeshifting character. Not just your Mystique-variety shapeshifter though; a character who can grow armored dermal plates, or claws, or wings, or anything a situation might call for, all based on spreading his total body mass around. Obviously, this sounds like a VPP. But I'm looking for suggestions on how to build it efficiently. Should I buy Shapeshifting outside the VPP to save points, since it will be the one Power almost always in use? And then Link the VPP to Shapeshifting for further cost savings? Or can I get away with just saying that the shapeshifting is just the special effect of the VPP? That the character is always recog…

Am I the only one who'd love to be able to download all the wonderfulful, color sideart figures we see on the left side of the Hero Games board? Steve, is there anyway that: We, the people, of the united Hero Games boards, might form a more perfect collection for our players to view, establish tranquility in our players, insure peace for GM's, provide for the common happiness of viewers, promote the general welfare of posters, secure the blessings of the players and future GM's, do request a possible .zip file for this united Hero Games boards. Well, howabout it Hero Games? (hope) Anyone agree? As for the above, well, it just kinda popped into my head.

Just two new Limitations I made: Must Remain Moving (-1/2 to -3/4) This Limitation, specifically designed for Clinging (although in theory usable for other Powers) disallows a character to use this Power unless he is moving. This would be used for characters who can run along walls, but not just hang out there. If a character must remain moving, it is a -1/2 Limitation. If they must move at their full movement speeds (with a Full Move, or move and Move By, or Move through, or whatever), then it is worth an additional -1/4 (for a total of -3/4). rPD (or rED) Applies (-1/2) This Limitation, specifically designed for the Transfer power, is exactly the …

...anywhere! I looked in the online store, and I only found damaged copies. Where are the undamaged copies? I looked here, at FRP games, as I saw them posting in one of the threads here, Barnes and Noble, and none have the game. If it is currently out of stock, when will you be printing new copies? I played Champions only once or twice before the group I was playing with disbanded, but I always loved the game. Seeing X2 has gotten me back into wanting to play some super heroes again. I'm a little impulsive, I know. Anyway, can you help a fellow comic book RPG lover out? Also, for a superhero campaign would I need to buy the Champions Universe book, as…

I want to create a Flame Dart power for my players, defined as a 3d6 EB. I want it to ignite creatures, so Uncontrolled. However, Uncontrolled requires Constant. I don't want to give my characters a Flame Thrower, as in, I don't want them to be able to hit a character every turn without making an attack roll. I want them to have to shoot the EB one at a time, not as a constant stream. Is their a special limitation for this? Thanks, -cK

Steve (et al.): I don't mean to pile on more work for you, especially since you've been doing such a great job with the 5e rules questions forum, but I'd like to see a similar one where you can address rules "arguments." That might not be the best way to describe it. What I'd like to see is a forum where we can ask specific questions about why certain rules decisions were made. I'd like to see the reasoning behind some of the ones where many have disagreements. Some examples are Regeneration, Instant Change, and many of the Talents. You know what I mean - the ones people argue about on these boards. "FREd says X, which doesn't make sense for reason Y, there…

In WotC's Book of Vile Darkness, there is a spell (I forget the name) that does crazy amounts of damage to the target's #1 loved one. How would we mimic that in HERO?

If my character has Clinging and he becomes Desolid can he still cling to walls and ceilings or does he need to buy "Affects Real World" for the Clinging?

I have a player that wishes to have a Power that Dispels venom. I like the idea but was wondering about application of said power. According to FREd, it would prevent the venom user from using the venom until they activated it again - possibly using up a charge(?) What I was wondering was what about damage over time types of venom commonly found in the Beastiary. Would applying the Dispel to a character hit with the venom prevent further damage from that hit?

Okay -- DOJ requires all published characters to have a special effect listed for all powers (even if it is a simple as "fleet footed" for an extra inch of Running). What I'm wondering is, what's your favorite special effect you've seen for a character? This can be in an offical DOJ product or something made for a personal setting. To start with, I'd have to go with Captain Chronos, who gave us "No Sleep Till Brooklyn," Walkin' To Jerusalem," "Gone Out For Food," and "The Best Omnichromometer Ever Made." A close second is Bulldozer, with "Ha! You Think You Stupid Attack Can Hurt Me?". And then there's the Black Harlequin with "Look What I Made!" and "Not-…

Okay, I know in HtH combat, that it would take a killing attack to break bones. My question is: How would you handle immobilizing someone's arm? Would this just be a special FX of the Killing Attack? Would there be a minimum amount of BODY that has to be dealt? Also, what if a PC/NPC falls, lands on their arm, and is broken? Would these be GM's call (in either Heroic/Super Heroic campaign)?

Does anyone have a d20 conversion table for Champions? My group has been playing d20 as we waited for Fantasy Hero to come out. I would like for us to switch to Hero system (we play supers with M&M, Fantasy with 3E and Science Fiction with Star Wars/Blood and Space... we like to use a single system, and d20 has really been the one that has supported all the genres). With Fantasy hero coming out, it would be neat to get the group switched over to Hero system for all three genres. If I could get a conversion system, then players would not have to lose any of their stuff in the switch over. Thanks in advance!! Polaris

Last night I went HERO crazy, designing all kinds of wacky stuff for an upcoming campaign. So I's gots lots o' questions for the boards. I want to create an NND for some powers with the defense being having any Mental Power or Mental Defense. Basically, if you've trained that aspect of your mind, you're immune to the attacks. Is that a broad enough defense for NNDs? -cK

in two places of the Hero 5th rulebook (in the Damage section) 1/2 HKA Martial Strike is given a +2 DC example, and both times the result is said to be 1d6. When I take a 1/2d6 HKA (2 DC's) and add 2 DC's to it, I get 1D6+1 on the table. Where am I making the mistake? Chris

I thought it might be cool to see some gadgets and equipment for various games that are being run. I guess I should probably start it off, but I'm not very experienced quite yet, so mine will be fairly simple. Also, I figured we could follow the idea of the character posting game and issue a challenge at the end of the post. First Aid Kit - This is a complex, yet small device. A diagnostic computer runs through the necessary treatments and applies them to the target. 4D6 Body Aid (20 points) Only raise to starting values(-1/2) Independent (-2) 6 Charges (-3/4) Concentrate (0 DCV) (-1/2) OIF (-1/2) extra time (1 Turn) (-1) I'd like to see a mechanical su…

The Template can be downloaded from the Free Stuff within the Other Software section. http://www.herogames.com/FreeStuff/Other%20Software/index.htm Any questions/bugs/comments just email me directly. Several things for clarification. 1) There are no conversion scripts for the Template. However, if you run a normal update it will convert "most things". Those things that don't convert can be readded. I know this doesn't help some of you, but the invitation is still open for anyone who has the courage to tackle the task. (8^D) 2) The Template uses a Beta version of Metacreator (Version 2.4.0 or Greater). Bruce was kind enough to make some special cha…

OK, I have a character looking at buying a power that heals others while inflicting whatever damage is cured on her. Example: The character buys 6d6 Body Healing & want to take as much damage as she cures. To me this sounds like a Side Effect, major effect (a drain on her body as big as her healing power is, 60 active points or -1) which happens every time the power is used (x2 for a power that always works) for a total of a -2 limit. Problem is that that doesn't jive with the example writup listed under Side Effect (I belive it was called "mage healing") where something similar happens but the limit is -1. What am I misunderstanding?

Had a situation come up the other day in the game regarding entangle. The druid had an area affect, continuous, personal immunity 1d6/2def entangle. The idea was that he summoned plants up around him that kept on grabbing whatever was nearby. Now, my understanding of continuous attacks is thus: the attack goes off on every one of the attackers phases and on any segment that a new target moves into the area. The area was 6" radius. So, the bugbear, who has a 35 STR, moves into the area and wants to get to the druid, who is at the center. She hits the outside hex and is immediately entangled. I give her a freebie casual STR roll to break out and she fails that. She …

I was wondering how to create a small blade (dagger sized or smaller) that didn't do much Killing Damage but because of it's special materials and/or sharpness, always caused an imparing or disabling wound. It doesn't chop off arms, just slices through the tendons making the arm useless. So....how?
