I am working on a vampire and I am giving him an END Reserve I am calling BLOOD POOL. A few of his special abilities will run off of it. Recovery of tyhe BLOOD POOL will come from consuming blood. (Bagged or from a victim.) How do I represent this?

So Shapeshift is defined by the senses it affects, for about a year now. I think I understand, but I'm bored so I'll throw this out for the Herophiles' discussion. A Plastic Man or Reed Richards can change his physical shape. He looks like he always does, but has a rubbery body. That's Shapeshift vs sight, always looks the same (-1/2). Right? I didn't think he'd need "vs. touch", since he feels the same - he's not prickly, or furry, or slick; he just feels like a guy in spandex. Now the T1000 guy has that, without the limitation since he can color himself differently. He MIGHT also have "vs touch", don't know since we don't see movies in Feel-O-Vision yet. …

Anyone have writeups or can point to a 4th Ed. book with write ups of VX, mustard, and/or sarin gas? Thanks! (If you're following the DC Assault thread, you know where this is going.)

Hello again, One of my players wants to build an attack that is an entangle WITH a flight usable against others. The special effect would be encasing someone in a bubble and then just floating them away. Clever, no? So our hero sticks the guy in a bubble. Then the linked Flight UAO kicks in and the guy begins to float away. Do I charge him a movement action? Next phase if he wants to float him further away, do I charge him an action (since this is now usuable as an attack) or do I observe movement rules since this is really a movement? I'm going to suggest possibly persistent/uncontrolled advantages, but I'm sure I'm going to be asked how the effec…

Can Power Defense be bought Hardened? For that matter, can drains, transfers, etc., be bought with Armor Piercing to disregard Power Defense? The answer is probably staring me right in the face somewhere.

Here's one of those things I thought I knew the answer to until two of my players had contrasting views to each other on how it works. When you are performing a mental attack, do you declare what effect you are trying to achieve first or do you roll the effect dice and then choose an effect based on how well you have them controlled? Mind Control: The hero wants the villain to disarm. This is certainly not in his nature. Does he roll the effect dice then declare what he has the villain do, or does he declare first then if he doesn't get the result he wants the villain can ignore him completely?

I have a character that I've been working on, a sonic energy blaster who has an unusual respiratory system. His bones are hollow and there are various orifices throughout his body where he can take in air and power his blasts, also just to breathe. Kind of like Majin Buu's speed holes. The one advantage he has is he can not be strangled or if he was strangled it would take a concerted effort on the part of the stranglers since all the various blowholes and the like would have to be plugged tightly. How does one build this using the HERO system? I was thinking self-contained breathing with limitations.

With the debut of the new Fantasy Hero line imminent in just a few weeks, we're going to be removing the existing FH e-books from the Online Store. This includes the 4th Ed. FH genre book, the FH Companion I, Magic Items, and The Spell Book. We'd initially planned for today to be the last day those products would be available, but we decided to run a "Fourth of July" special and keep 'em available through Friday, July 4. We'll remove them from the Online Store after that -- so if you want 'em, better get 'em while you can! If you have any questions or comments, please post 'em in the "Company Questions" thread on this topic.

I've been designing my first vehicle (a flying submarine a la Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea), and have naturally added ejector seats. This is the design I came up with. I was wondering if anyone has another (probably better) way to build them? Ejection Seats: Teleportation 5", Usable By Other (x8 Number of Targets +1) (20 Active Points); 1 Charges (-2), Can Only Teleport To 5" Outside Vehicle (Only in Flight) Fixed Locations (-1), Must Pass Through Intervening Space (-1/4), No Noncombat Movement (-1/4)

Hey all, I'm currently getting ready to do a complete conversion from GURPS to Hero, and was wondering if anyone has done this or attempted it in the past. If you have spreadsheets or the like that you would care to share with me it would be appreciated. I have a complete list of all GURPS skills, and I'm planning on simply going down the list and writing down the equivalent for each in the Hero System. I would also be looking for characteristic, advantages, and disadvantages conversions as well. When I'm all done I'm planning on having a spreadsheet file with everything in it for easy searching and converting. I have a huge character spreadsheet I made for GURP…

I'm in the process of reading American Gods (if you haven't, do so as soon as you can) and I just ran across this particular passage. What I'm wondering is, how would you go about reproducing this in Hero? I know Telepathy, but where do you go from there? You don't want to know what they're thinking, exactly, but more like little details about them, the stuff that they know. Bartleby does this in Dogma as well, and it drove me nuts then, too. Any help out there for a poor helpless gamer?

Sometimes, i can be dense. (Which may come as no surprise to some of you here.) But i don't get this. I am referring to two recent QnAs between Steve and Oz. In the first, titled questions three, Steve confirms that an Eb in a multipower and a flash in an EC could indeed be fired in an MPA together. (That means the user can choose to fire the Eb, the flash or both together without penalty at the time of firing.) OK I am hip with that. I get it. In the next one, titled followup, he states that the same character could NOT buy the powers as linked, so that one power cannot be used without the other, even if he wants to reflect this as a -0 limitation, gi…

This was somewhat brought up awhile ago but how many heroes (or villains) could be based on a song title? One such song is Windy (Association). Big John was already created but a different version could still be made. I'd like to see other song persons and stats to go with them. My brother created Liberty Valence (spelling?) - a bad news, gun-totting criminal. If possible, the powers should be based mostly on what the song was about. If figures - Steve, could you move this to the Champions forum?

My wife's character can teleport up to x8 her mass. She asked if her character could teleport to an endangered innocent, and teleport them out of harms way, all in one phase. How would this be possible, considering teleporting to the innocent would take a half phase, then wouldn't the hero have to take a half phase to grab the innocent, then another half phase to teleport away to safety? That's 1-1/2 phases. Should I have my wife's character perform a Move-By Grab to simulate the one phase teleport rescue? Acroyear II

In a situation where a character wishes to spread an entangle, how does "spreading" affect the DEF/BODY of the entangle? Since normally, spreading an attack subtracts 1 DC per +1 OCV(or per hex it's spread), how would you work that out for the entangle? Right now I'm leaning toward alternating between reducing the BODY then the DEF per OCV bonus (or hex traversed). For example: a 5d6/5DEF Entangel is being used to attack 3 targets. The targets are spread out over 5 hexes (i.e., one empty hex between each target). In order to cover all the targets, the Entangle is reduced 4DCs to be able to hit the two additional targets which would drop it to a 3d6/3DEF enta…

Ok, this probably falls under the category of low importance but here goes. The cramming skill doesn't give you much, the equivalent of a single 1-point skill at a time for 5 points plus you have a lot of prep to do. First pretty much everyone in a modern world possesses that skill. I have lost count of the number of people who got through college with amazing marks on cramming alone... and didn't retain anything two weeks into the next term. So "basic" cramming should be free and is probably worth at most three points. Who wants to pay 5 points for a skill that they will almost always fail at, even if you have a choice of which skill you get to fail at. In …

Just started a new campaign, with a (mostly) new group of players. One of these players has a character whose powers are bases somewhat on the new-age properties os amethyst crystal. One such property is its ability to "hold a charge." In HERO, this sounds to me like Adjustment Powers, which can simulate positive (Aid, Healing) and negative (Drain, Suppress) charges of energy. Now, just slapping a Vulnerability to Drains and Suppresses (and even Transfers) is easy, but what about the Aids and Healings? Should I just say it's a side effect? How would it be paid for it not? Something else I'm missing? Since I can't even figure out how to properly buy an Aid or Hea…

With the group I play with, it has been fairly common for about one of the players on average to have a damage shield. Since we switched to 5th, there hasn't been a single damage shield character built by a player. I think this is a damning comment about the 5E take on damage shields. Apparently, none of the players feel that the cost is worth the benefit. Why oh why, did they hold on to this complicated, pointless way to construct damage shields? What was the great damage shield disaster that scarred them so?

How would you construct an improvement in turn mode? That is, what would it take to allow a character in flight to make more turns / make turns more often? Example: a character with 15" of flight would normally have to move 3 hexes between 60-degree changes in direction when making a full move. Aerobat would like to be able to make a 60-degree change in direction in *every* hex he travels through. What should it cost him?

Okay, so I'm banging together a weapons VPP for a player of mine (online game, yadda yadda), and I paused to ponder something: Silencers and Flash Suppressors. How would you build them? Would you 'simply' add the +¼/+½/+¾ advantage to the weapon, which (unfortunately) may boost the active cost past the VPP's limit? Would you create the silencer/flash suppressor as a 'Naked Power Advantage', something to the effect of 'Invisible Power F/X vs. Sight & Sound, +¾, up to 45 Active Points', and allow the character to use the item as a free add-on to any of their firearms? Or perhaps built it as a Darkness to Sight & Sound, Only For Attached Weapon's Dis…

I'm setting up a Modern Day Horror campaign, and was interested in other's opinions on what powers you'd give the undead. I myself don't have the HERO Beastiary, nor do I have the resources to get one. So anyone wanna throw some ideas my way on how to build Zombies, Ghosts, Vampires, so-on.

Both flying and running cost 2 character points per 1" of movement. I must be missing something, because it seems like flying is much more useful. So, why do they cost the same amount?

I mentioned it on another thread, talking about entry level HERO games, but I was wondering if anyone else had taken the idea and put it into reality. That is, that you create two character sheets for every character. One of them is a 'source code' sheet. It purely has the point costs of characteristics, skills, powers, talents and so on. It doesn't have things like CV, 9+CHAR/5 and all of that stuff. It's purely to list how the character was built. The other sheet would be the compiled sheet. No raw characteristics, purely what impact those characteristics have in the game. CV, 9+CHAR/5 and the effects of powers rather than how they were built. The line from th…
