I am hoping to convert the Al-Qadim game setting to Hero. I do not agree with the cleric, here is the spells I get today setup. I want to make divine magic more mysterious. Not all preists have it, and even non-preist may get some (the gods do work in mysterious ways). I was thinking to use a VPP to model the effects, with a No Concsious Control (divine will) disad. Has anyone done this? How did it work? What should I look out for? Any advice appreciated. Thank you

Ok I am converting a D20 module over to Hero. In it there is a sorcerous necromancer that animates an army of skeletons. Her means consists of taking bones, inscribing them with special runes and special ink. I am thinking that this sounds like a transform. Turning bones + ink into a skeletal thrall. I just want to make sure I am doing this right. As always I suspect there are many ways to do it. Its doesn't feel like a summon (though FRED pg 153, last para makes me think it might be.) She has to have the bones and prepare them. Say 5 minutes of time. Lets assume that a skeleton has 5 body. 2D6 should be enough to transform it in one go. No? The resul…

Here's a magic system I've used in the past and been very happy with as GM. Players seemed to like it, too. This isn't complete, but should give the reader a feel for how it works: How to Do Magic: Most magic-using characters, and all magic-using player characters, use a Variable Power Pool, a Power: Magic Skill called Spellcasting, and spells represented by individual 1-point Knowledge Skills (some 2-point and 3-point "spell groups" are available). Exceptions for certain PCs and PC types might be made on an individual basis depending on campaign and player justification. The Variable Power Pool: 1- The Variable Power Pool may be of any size the character wi…

I was thinking of allow VPPS to run at double the pool for the Active Points. So a Mage who sets up a pool pf 20 pts would be able to have upto 40 Active points in spells running at one time. There would different requirements on spells and such to help keep mages in check. I was wondering what other GMS thought of this method.

Ok Several of the players I have a re use to D&D. They expect monsters to attack multiple times in a round. SO the question is do you give monsters higher spds to reflect this?

Just a question for all you experienced GMs of Fantasy Hero. Do you regularly allow characters to buy martial art maneuvers straight from the book to use with weapons, or do you find it a little to potent for a normal Fantasy Campaign (mine will be 75+50, with a potential +25 for racial stuff). I am starting a campaign this weekend and have been debating whether to allow the use of Martial arts as they are in FReD and UMA, since i fear the ocv/dcv bonuses might be a little to overbalancing. Opinions Welcome

I just got the book late last night. I was flipping through it when I noticed the error. Starting with Chapter 7, all the page headers show 'Chapter One' this continues until the Appendix.

Ive been tinkering with the idea of a magic user that uses the magic from the surrounding environment. Depending on the type of mage he is he can cast from 5 different schools of magic. He has predefined spells that he has to trigger in order for them to be cast. This caster has those spells in the form of a deck of playing cards that only need for him to cast them. He would cast by throwing the card away to activate it. I ve also been thinking of using cards from the magic card game for some of the spells and or summons etc its just a thought right now of how he would go about it any suggestions on how i would write up the character, powers, etc??

Now that this awesome tome of infinite fantasy knowledge has made its way into our grubby little hands and sparked our wild imaginations into the infinite abyss of gaming creativity, what kinds of campaigns are most of you going to be running? Don't be shy, spill the beans...I need some good ideas to mine from.

I was out searching for a printable hex map and I found this: http://autorealm.sourceforge.net/index.html It's a free mapping program. I'm very impressed with it and I've only been using it for about 5 minutes. I may later discover it's failings, but I thought I'd pass it on.

In the "MMM - what would you like to see?" thread, someone sad they'd like to see the atlatl used by some race or other. Now, for those who don't know this tool, an atlatl is a length of wood with a very slight angular bend about 15-18 cm from one end (seving as a handle) and a cup-like socket or notch at the other end, facing back up the shaft. The purpose of the atlatl is to give more oomph to a light hurled spear, by placing the butt of the spear in the cup, laying the atlatl along the arm and over the shoulder, and using it to extend the "length" of one's arm for the purpose of acceleration. Hopefully this picture wll illustrate... The question I have …

I'm posting this mainly because I'm curious. I've seen a lot of postings where a GM will be wondering how to get such and such an effect and how much it will cost. Or people will post critters (aka cannon fodder) fully developed complete with disads. Do most people do this? For myself, most of my baddies (aka the grunts, cannon fodder, and brutes) are just a note with OCV, DCV, Stun, and Body. A lot of times I don't even bother with figuring END. Disads and such are left to main personalities. When I build a spell or weapon for an NPC I just give it the effects I want and don't worry too much about Limitations. I figure that it's not like I have a …

I'm looking to create an arcane spell (as opposed to a divine spell) that basically puts active, constant magical effects on hold until the caster of the "hold button" spell says "go" again. And I'm totally out of ideas. Help is thus requested.

This is perhaps one of the eviler things I've thought about doing to the party in my campaign but it needs some work. Basically your typical adventure consists of a bad guy and his minions which the adventures seek out. They then stomp on the minions, stomp on the bad guy, steal his loot and take advantage of his women. Change the gender and wording as you like but that is basically what happens. Monster of the Week. (MotW) OK. Now then lets take that to a higher level. The party needs adventures to get loot to pay for stuff. The world is big so there are of course other adventuring parties. I propose creating one with a flamboyant leader who boasts …

I've not got FH5 yet , but was thinking that Enviromental Movement: Armour is the most elegant way of negating encumberance penalties. I would say that 4 points would cover it. Do you see any drawbacks or problems to this method?

Hello all. In Fantasy Hero, the new book, leather armor is broken down into soft, heavy, and boiled. Then, you can add metal studs to each to get studded leather. However, according to the book, studded leather is equivalent in DEF provided and the BODY of the armor, as its equivalent non-studded armor. Example: Heavy leather armor is equivalent to studded heavy leather armor. Mechanically there is no difference between the armors. However, according to the book adding studding to armor “reinforces†it. So, how do we account for the difference between studded and non-studded armor? Do you raise the DEF? Do you raise the BODY of the armor? Do you do somethi…

So, it's time for another "what would you like to see in this book?" threads. First, a brief word of explanation. Monsters, Minions, And Marauders was originally intended to be a sort of two-sectioned book. One section would have a lot of "generic" monsters that weren't in the HSB; the other would have "named" enemies from the Turakian Age setting. I've recently decided to drop the "named" enemies section, partly because I'm leery of trying to write enemies for a setting that I only have sketchy notes for so far, and partly for various other reasons. The upshot it, this leaves me some room in the book, so I thought I'd ask what people would be interested in see…
