Trying to replicate one of my D&D campaign players magic items in FH. Having trouble partly due to flu, but also wanted opinions on it - i.e. is it "legal", workable, is there a better way, etc? I'm not worried about point cost - I'm looking at effect. The item is a cloak of battle from the Magic of Faerun book. It's a relatively low power item that has two forms - in its base form, its a cloak that provides an armor bonus, and also, upon command, can attack an individual within 5 feet and try to disarm them (using the wearers attack bonus and action, so he can't attack and disarm unless he can do two standard actions at once). The other form is a quartersta…

Dungeon Dweller was the very first "role playing game" I ever bought, I was really young when I discovered the Crypt of the Socerer boxed set in our local hobby shop. Heratige made (as far as I know) two boxed "paint and play " sets, Crypt of the Sorcerer and the Caverns of Doom. It was probably THE easiest system ever concieved but very complete, revolving around a single D6 throw. Your characters (archtypes in the fantasy world) had only three (!) characteristics - Endurance, Speed, and Fighting Ability. It took about ten minutes to role up characters and my group of friends and I played this simplistic system (embelishing on it of course) for over five years. Inversly…

I am contemplating running Fantasy Hero, and have a player who is almost certain to take some sort of nobility perk. I think he sees it as a cheap (2-3 points) powergaming way to greatly increase his character's power. I tried this once before with him and he was trying to do things like -- ordering commoners to fight for him -- ordering people to surrender -- ignoring laws by being above them, and being immune from punishment -- license to kill; to render low justice on the spot -- getting bonuses to presence, influence, negotiations, etc. -- probably lots more... Anyway I think the perk is way too cheap to give all that. Also I think I don't know nea…

Greetings, When coming up with names of NPCs that the PCs meet in town or on their adventures, do you normally have a list of names for various races, or do you just come up with a name on the fly?? If you have a list for various races, would you be willing to share the list with us here on the message boards? Thanks! Polaris

Some random lyrics generated off of AiC, Metallica, Megadeth, and other sources. Just for kicks -- useful for Bards and the like Behind the door Settle the score I first produced my crossbow-pistol and then produced my rapier I know that pain so don't you run away Name your god and bleed the freak Heaven beside you... Hell within Take another hit Have your heroes disappeared? When no one wants to see You might blind them The eyes, they never close, emblem of vigilance Threaten no more 'Bout you, I know somethin' See my face it's growin' old Slapped in the face again Score at face, a ten for slacking You made a…

Fantasy Hero House Rules

Since so many of you have been debating house rules for Fantasy Hero, I'd like to add a few topics. I will not post my full house rules as they are too large for the boards. I will however post the ones specific to character generation. I welcome comments and inquiries and look forward to good open discussion on the topic along with how these may help your campaign. Thanks in advance for what I anticipate to be a good discussion thread.

I'm building a spell for a sorcerer from a place called "The Bitter Expanse" it is a frozen wasteland. One of the spells he has developed is called bitter cold touch. The most interesting aspect of it is that it adds a constant 3d6 stun only damage to any metalic weapon he touches. Thus when fireing his bow he says the incantation, gentle mist falls from this hand and he touches the tip of the arrow. Said arrow, when embedded in the chest of some deserving orc, continues to do 3d6 stun unless removed, fading to 2d6 stun after 1 minute, to 1d6 stun after 2 minutes, and finally is no longer cold after 3 minutes have gone by. When applied to a melee weapon it …

Anyone Create Magic Tattoos The idea is that this mystic warrior can draw mystic tattoos on people and the can latter say a power word to activate a power. Although I can think of one or two ways to do it my self I don¡¦t like either. So I was wondering if I could get your guys¡¦s take on how this is best done. A COUPLE OF WAYS I TRIED 1ļ UAO X2 Uncontrolled, Trigger, Delayed Effect, Extra Time, Concentrate, Incantations (both to activate and create), Charges, Cost End (Paid at time of use) 2ļ Basically the same as above but with the focus of drawing/spell components (Rare Items) P.S.: I have not put to much time into this …

Here's the situation: One of the characters in my campaign has killed a druid (an old-school druid, not one of these namby-pamby tree-huggers). In doing so, she activated his death curse, with the effect that she can no longer heal any wounds she receives as long as she's in the land of Erin. Also, any bruises or scratches, post-nasal drip, hangnails and toothaches will just hang around forever, gradually making her into a walking bundle of misery until eventually she dies. She can be healed magically, but it has only a short-term effect; by the next day all her old wounds will have opened and started seeping again. I'm thinking that it could be reflected pretty…

-1/4 Costs Endurance only to Activate? From FAQ: Costs Endurance Q: Could a character apply a Costs Endurance Only To Activate Limitation (-1/4) on a power that normally does not cost END? A: As a default rule, no — if a character wants Costs Endurance, it has to be the normal type of Endurance cost. As always, the GM is free to allow this if he thinks it won’t be particularly abusive or otherwise cause problems in-game. Well I am thinking about using this limitation in my Fantasy Hero Campaign. For some spells, Dark Vision, a low powered Mystic Shield (DVC +2), and a few others. I can see how it could be easily abused. But if used to simulate …

I'm working on a high power Mage character with a 60 point Magic VPP; all spells must have -1 in limits. I'd like to post the spells for review and comment. The challenge; I could always use more 60 active point spells, and I'm sure others could as well. So, what do you have for 60 active points? Edit: Deleted hard to read version

A call to post your famourite memorable in-game lines. Here are two from a loooong time ago. The winter weather was bad enough. We were nearly dying from that, not to even mention the ubiquitous evil presence that had been following and menacing us since the start of our cross country trip. It would never actually appear and do us any harm, but it threatened us every night! So, the rest of us were not all that pleased when the ‘sneaky‘ one we had among us called out “Show yourselves!â€. When the huge area of swirling snow and ice had finished with us, we were minus two of our group. She was later to earn the moniker ‘Jasmine of the Glib Tongue’ when she yel…

There is a new FH review at RPG net. The title "Bigger than God, and quite possibly better." Not surprisingly with that title, it is a positive review. http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/9/9693.phtml

hello, I'm new to the hero system, and I'm wanting to run a campaign using the fantasy setting with ships (boats) that travel through space. sort of like spelljammer, but not exactly. more like a pirates of the caribbean meets star wars type thing. does anyone have any advice as to how I could do this? would it be better for me to use a different system since I'm not completely familiar with this one? I like the flexibility of this system, and all the options, but if I can't do it I need to look elsewhere. any help would be appreciated. Willis

I'm looking for players. I'm starting a Fantasy Hero PBEM (Play By E-Mail) game. The game will involve heroic level characters built on 100 points plus 100 points disadvantages, anything goes (with DM approval of course). The world is typical (D&D style) fantasy including all sorts of divine and arcane spellcasters, dragons, goblins, ogres, trolls, orc, gnomes, halflings, humans, elves, dwarves, etc. I'm hoping to keep it fast paced. I'm new to PBEM's but it should go rather smoothly. I'm looking for 4-8 players, maybe more. I'll start when I have 4 and introduce any late commers when I have a chance. For further information e-mail your questions to Perennia…

Here is an interesting power. It comes from the Iron Kingdom's setting put out by Privateer Press. I've given it my best Hero interpretation. Basically it is an inherent nigh-tangible field of gloom that projects for 1" around Bane Thralls (think: rather powerful undead skeletons or zombie types.) What it is, is a 1" radius modifier to all checks and rolls. Oh, and you can't heal body while in it. Nice write up. But it is freaking expensive and I am not sure how to prevent healing of body while in the shroud. I've just ignored that aspect of it. The power already clocks in at a whopping 45 points which puts me WAY over budget for my design (since the necromancer …

I've decided to throw a kingdom of cultured goblins at my next fantasy hero gamers. I don't have FH yet and I am dying to get it, can someone get Diamond to actually supply my LGS? THanks anyway I wanted the initial impetus for the kingdom to be ...wine. one goblin chief developed the local fruit into a very popular wine. Using the money he made from the wine turned his scavanger goblin tribe into an agricultural based society. He hired humans to guard his land and eventually, through uncanny business dealings (this was a bright goblin) got his claim to the land officially recognized. Now, what else will the kingdom need to stay independany? They h…

How do most GM's handle these, if at all? I am talking about markings that wizards put on things that are visible only to magic senses (or sometimes to normal senses in special circumstances like the light of a full moon during a Solstice or whatever). These could be placed on an item to denote ownership, or a trail to mark directions, or even to mark a person for death in some cases. I would think this is either Images, Transform or (less likely) Change Environment. The first or the last bought 0 end, etc. Does anyone have an example of this type of spell from their games? - Ernie

This tread idea was spawned by some various threads over the concern of mages getting too powerful in campaigns, or having magical spells being used to unbalance a setting in unforseen ways. The premise is thus: Post a new spell you are considering allowing your PC's to have access to in your game. Complete spell writeups will give you more accurate feedback, but isn't neccessary. The gathered community of Herodom will then use our devious and wily brains to come up with ways the spell may be perverted, twisted, or otherwise used outside the immediately obvious applications the spell was built for. This hopefully, will allow us GM's to then redesign a spell…

I am looking to start a PBP Fantasy Hero game. The game will focus more on intrigue, and stealth than straight out combat. Players will be encouraged to make characters who are members of the lower nobility or agents of various governments and other powerful entities. (For those who have the second Source Book put out for 4th Ed Fantasy Hero, I will be including such groups as the Witch Hunters of the Western Shores, The Family and most other groups found in the book.) Human characters would be most appropriate but a few non-human characters (not more than 1/3 of the party) would be acceptable. Players will also need to be willing to create a decent background for their c…

Say I am going to make an archer, Ashbern Fletcher. I'm buying talents for Ash when I notice Deadly Blow. Cool. As an archer I give him Expert Archer and as a hunter I give him Expert Hunter. Now fletcher is hunting a deer with his bow. Do I get both +1d6's to his attacks for a total of +2d6? Also I'm buying Rapid Archery for Ash, though with the variant that uses the naked Autofire. Do I have to include the +2d6 from deadly blows with the cost of the bow's Autofire? Just a few more. Ash has a STR of 25, more than enough for the heaviest bow in the book. Can I get a 3d6 Great Composite Longbow with a range of 315" and a STR min of 24 weighing 1.6 kg at…
