Recently my Victorian Hero players reached the lair of the evil count (circa 1896) in pursuit of a MacGuffin thought to be in his possession. Of course, they don't have hard confirmation that there is a vampire there, but they're ready to act on the superstitions of the locals and be off castle grounds before night falls. For my part, I want to keep them there long enough for the sun to go down and for You Know Who to make an appearance. Fortunately for me, not only am I the GM, but when building the castle (based on Castle Bran), I gave it a Base power of being able to create mental images in the minds of those who are within its walls. The original point of this…

Hero Games, as you know, is going to be releasing Post Apoc Hero around Gen Con of next year. I'm curious how interested people are in having a setting for the genre available to them. I ask, because I have a campaign setting I've been working on for quite some time now. The setting, at this point in time, is very extensively built. I have three "survival" cities that are unique in their own way. I have mutations including how they happen and how to calculate the effects. I have evil post-apoc monsters that make zombies look like a walk in the park. I have several other pleasant surprises on top of that. At this point, I have close to 40 pages of notes on …

I've decided to start bringing together some notes for Space Wizards, and I could use a little input on the following. 1. The Thane. They have a few paragraphs in Terran Empire, but I'm not sure if they're anywhere else (like Arcane Adversaries). It seems to me that there was a villain in one of the old 3rd-ed Enemies books who was a Thane, but I don't recall which book (except that I'm pretty sure it was either Enemies or Enemies II). Any help on finding already-published information on them (especially under 5th Ed) would be appreciated. 2. Styles of magic. I've gotten to look through both FHG's, and I'm going to allow everything there except Beast Magic…

Hi there! I'm thinking about running a Mega Man ZX based game, with maybe a few elements of the Metroid games. I just recently got Hero 5ER, Star Hero and Ninja Hero, and so far I like everything I've seen. But I had a question concerning the "Biometals" from ZX I was hoping someone could help me with. The "Biometals" are artifacts that basically contain the souls of Mega Man X, Zero, etc., and let a normal human transform into those warriors of the past. They also can guide or communicate with their host, while in human form. This is the part I'm not sure about... the other powers I can create just fine. But what would you people suggest for modeling the dise…

In light of saome of the discussions of Crossovers, I thought I'd point out a great read. I just recieved and went straight through (only ~150 pages), Joe Lansdale's Dead in the West today. I don't know if anyone has brought this up, so apologies if it is something that has already been discussed. Dead in the West is a mix of Western and Horror, specifically Zombie goodness. Darn'd fine book if I do say so m'self. The characters are a bit stereotypical, but the story itself is a funky take on the classic western with more than enough to make it compelling. Lansdale is the same guy that wrote the shortstory Bubba Ho-Tep, so when I saw that I knew I'd picked a winner.

I was tempted to put in the pulp section given the time period but I decided to place him here. I wish I had more information then the book tha I referenced for him. But I think he makes for an interesting NPC. What guidelines do people use, if any, for making real people? For example, if you were to make yourself, how many points would you be, what would your stats look like? Are there some actual measurements that can be used to create yourself? I'm assuming that most people would have some serious disads. Probably more than they have point limits for. Has anyone tried this using 5th? NOTE: My biggest concern, and I'm absolutely serious, is players "overestimating" their abilities, and just as important "underestimating" their abilities.

I have been trying for years to get my son interested in role playing, and I finally got him hooked by telling him that we could stat out his bionicles in the Hero System. He is actually looking forward to playing some of his characters, and I've started working with him on the stats. I know it is probably a long shot, but I was just curious to see if anyone else has done this with the bionicles. -Chris

Greetings Herophiles, as a GM I have been feeling uninspired lately. I have ideas aplenty, numberous NPCs, and even Maps, but for some reason I do not feel excited about it. I prepare before sessions less and less. I improve alot because my PCs despite having known them for a while are unpredictable and I do not want to railroad them to follow my plot, because its everybodies story. I used to plan a week ahead and write down ideas that strike me out of he blue, but over the last year or so I just see where the Players and their Characters take things. I occassionally feel inspired to run other Genres, other Settings, but my Players are happy with the way …

Okay, got into the game late. Been collecting for much of the color issues. I have a question or seven... 1) Has the esteemed Mr. Perry ever put out a "Who's Who" style book? I've just finished #55 and there are a number of people I don't know. 2) Is there any information available about the "Agency" Strype has joined? 3) has the world grown more outlandish by leaps and bounds since the beginning or has it always been like this? Thanks alot.

Hello All, I'm going to be starting a new game now that I have Dark Champions in my grubby little hands. The game will be called GateCrashers. It will be a heroic level Hero game set in the very near future, and will be (as you can assume from the name) based a lot on Stargate SG-1, with a bit of Sliders & Cyber-Tech tossed in. I’m opting to change the basic premise of the working of the Stargate so that instead of an exact location in space, the Stargate coordinates are to a specific Gate. And that the gates aren’t just on other planets in our universe, but can (and will) lead to other dimensions. Thus allowing me to expose the PCs to a wider variety of worl…

The Horror Hero rulebook was bumped from the schedule because the author was no longer available. Nonetheless, this was a book I (and, it seems, others) were really looking forward to. I've been thinking about starting my players in a Horror Hero campaign, and have been brushing up on Horror Hero 4th edition as well as GURPS Horror. And while doing so, my imagination has been fired about what might have been. What would you have really liked to have seen if Horror Hero had come out in 2006?

I watched the movie Idocracy last night. It wasn't really that impressive of a movie. Basically an average American guy is put into cyrogenics for what should have been one year. Due to a set of events during his time in cyro, he wakes up in the year 2505. The human race now completely consists of morons. He is now the most intelligence person on the planet. The movie was alright. It certainly wasn't an excellent movie. I didn't hate it though. But the concept was interesting. I can see a short-term Post Apoc game using this concept. The player characters are average characters. They are somehow transported to the future were humanity has gotten really…

Imagine you were a Cro-Magnon or Neandethal, and you and your friends find that you are in the modern world. How long would it take you to master modern living, given that you really have no choice in the matter? What role would you assume in the modern world? Perhaps you lived in a community that had existed, unsuspected by modern Man, for twelve to thirteen thousand years, and have suddenly been discovered. or perhaps your group was plucked out of their time and placed in the present day without any input on your part. How would this work as a campaign?

I just finished reading Brian Lumley's 1980s Necroscope series of vampire/ESP novels (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Necroscope). Now, while these books are rather mixed in terms of quality (the characterization is stiff, all books except the last seem to end in approximately the same way, the Cold War stuff is totally dated) I thought they had a great deal of interesting ideas (great vampires!) that could be used variously in a horror/modern occult/fantasy game. Anybody out there read these books and ever thought about adapting anything from them?

It's a pretty generic topic, so I'm hoping for lots of responses. I'm starting a new campaign. It's a post-apocalyptic car combat thingy. Anyhow, I figured a few generic mission titles could be: Standard Missions Fight the pirates Defend the town Deliver/Retrieve the package Deliver/Retrieve the automobile Fight the monsters Salvage the resources I'm sure there's hundreds, no, thousands of ideas out there for mission hooks. Please share and maybe we'll all get a new idea for the players to run through.

I'm trying to run a cyberpunk game for a friend of mine but I'm having a hard time designing cyberware with appropriate limitations and what not. I'm trying to keep it fairly realistic and gritty (for example, if you super strength punch a wall with your cyberarm it will cause you considerable damage without skeletal reinforcement). Also affordable netrunning (point wise) without diminsional travel and how would I work out internet connection (variable power pool with knowledge skills. So if anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it cuz it looks like Cyber-Hero is a long time comming.
