So I have a dark champions hero who can divide himself into four copies - totalling out five full on heroes. What I'm looking for is some interesting limitations to take with duplication but am throwing my books up in the air as I don't know where to begin. Help? Some thoughts I've had are along the lines of: 1. Requires EGO roll to duplicate with a cumulative -1 for each duplicate present -1/2. Thus making it more difficult to keep cranking out duplicates on the fly. 2. Death of a dupicate is permanent -1/4. 3. Don't know how this would work, but the color is - after a given time period (day maybe?) he begins to strain and its difficult to keep …

I've been looking at the core book for a day or so now, and reading these forums. I've never played hero and have no one in my town that has played either. does anyone have any advice on learning the system? it's a bit confusing to me right now, so any advice would be appreciated. I keep seeing abbreviations for things, like until, and fred, but I have no idea what those are or if they'd be helpful. so if anyone has anything helpful for me, I'm all ears.....er, eyes... thanks Willis

I'm in the process of making a character with high Int (23). Why it is not incredibly high, it does exceed the magic 20 for human maximums. This got me to thinking about how do you handle high Int in game terms. If a PC has of 30 plus, does it make it easier for that PC to learn new skills or "fake it". Would that character be able use the high Int to simulate other skills (ex. code breaking). Would it be a simple Int roll with a negative modifer for not having the skill?

Just curious - as a GM, how lenient or how strict are you? I admit, I'm really lenient typically. There's no right style of course, so this isn't intended to trigger any debate on a "better" style, just wondering what people have to say. Yeah, I'm sure this has been on the boards before. Anyway, when I say lenient, in my case, I mean that character concepts may be pretty far-out, stop powers are usually allowed, that sort of thing. In-play I'll give consdierable flex for cool ideas and interesting tangents. I don't stick to the preordained notes/script much at all. However, my boundaries come up not just where the fun might be hampered (I'm sure everyone …

I was talking to one of my players (RadeFox on this board) and we were trying to come up with a fair but interesting rule for the Luck power. As it stands, everything about the power pretty much falls in the realm of GM fiat. Sure, you can roll some dice, and get a BODY total, but the effect of those dice are still pretty much up to the GM. What one GM thinks might be a 1 point luck effect could be worth 2 points in another GM's opinion. Not only that, but the player can (and usually will) constantly assault the GM with questions on whether or not his luck will apply to any given situation. This house rule was created to give the players more control over their luck,…

I've come up with a character who has a follower that's giving me fits just thinking about it. The character is pretty straight forward, but his follower is more tricky. He is an alien, and his follower is his space ship. It's completely sentient. But it's a space ship. Do I just buy it as a vehicle, slap an AI into it, purchase it as an intelligent vehicle, and go on? Sounds right to me. Although conceivably I could build it as a standard character with appropriate growth and other features, right? The reason I bring up the latter is because the ship can change shape into a person. Perhaps a multiform, right? Or a shapeshift? Is there anything wrong …

I have a summon that has a spatial-awareness type of sense which effectively works the same as sight, but is in the Radio group instead of the Sight group. Unfortunately, the summon has a low enough point total that it can't get points for disadvantages, so I can't just take a -25 disad for blind and use the points to buy the power. It seems I have 3 options: - Just use sight, and ignore the fact that realistically the sense should be in another group. It would be affected by visual flashes as normal. - Find some way to apply "affected as sense group X" to basic sight, and go from there. - Build the sense normally and suck up the points loss (not very appealing…

I have been using champs for several years, and have come across something that I hope others can give some insight on. Armor Piercing is a +1/2 advantage. Let's say you have an 10d6 EB with the Advantage. it would cost 50+25=75pts. Statistically, the average on a 6 sided die is 3.5, so 10d6 would have an average of 35pts of stun and 10 body. Now lets say you decided not to buy Armor Piercing, and instead pumped up your attack to 15d6. Same Cost. Statistically, you will do 3.5X15d6=53pts of stun and 15 body. Now lets say you attack someone with 30 ED. WIth the first attack you would half his ED to a 15 and then roll 10d6. Let's say you roll avera…

Well, maybe not perfect... I've got a situation where a player is trying to clone someone. That's right. A HERO is trying to clone someone. Now this cries out for all kinds of mayhem and chaos (and it likely will be affected thusly) but this brought up a question that I can't currently answer. I'm trying to use the base's very minor 20pt universal pool that is connected to the labs to make a sort of summoned creature. Does this sound reasonable for a one-time adventure use: Summoning: Clone of the Original, 1 Charge that never recovers. Focus (Materials that are extremely difficult to obtain: DNA and various specific chemical agents). Requires Skill R…

Thanks to some investigative work on Black Rose's part, an interesting idea that I would like to see further developed: So in drkrash's detailed comliness structure what did these new values mean/represent? What happens if I have a +3 Highlight? I like the general idea, however, and think it would be something interesting to incorperate with some rules. Another twist might be to give bonuses to different "comliness stats" with the regular stats. For instance: for every point you spend on PRE you get a +1 to Approachability, Attitude, Magnetism, or Voice, for every 2 points you spend on CON you get a +1 to Body, Face, Hair, or Highlight, for eve…

I'm building a fantasy hero wizard. I'm not having much trouble building most of his spells, but there is one effect that I don't know quite how to build. I want a lightning bolt spell that has a limited distance that it can travel, but can hit multiple targets until it has reached it's max distance. 10 goblins are surrounding Vehren the Wizard, and another goblin stands a small distance back. Lightning springs forth from Vehren as he gestures and chants jumping towards one goblin in the circle then turning to pass through the rest of them, before finally jumping out to hit the goblin who had been standing a little further off. This last goblin, having seen it hit al…

I'm not sure if this already was discussed... I just bought the "Until Superpowers Database." Wonderful book, congrats to Steve Long. Still, paging through it, I've found two little details that kinda bothered me. The first is the discussed-to-death new Damage Shield rules. To see the powers built using them just cinched it for me. Those powers are now terribly overpriced for what they do. I'll keep ignoring the new Damage Shield rules in my games. The second and not-so-discussed issue is the "Limited Phenomena" Limitation worthy -1/2. 40 points for 75% Damage Reduction that only work vs. fire or cold or sonics?!? Am I the only one that thinks this makes no…

I am thinking of putting an advantage on dispel. Instead of dispeling a particular power I'd like to be able to dispel all powers using a particular special effect. For example, dispel all fire powers. What would that be worth? +1?

I had a thought while browsing the generally excellent UNTIL book for speedster ideas. While I'm very grateful to Steve and the gang at DOJ for rescuing HERO and restoring it to its rightful place as the top system on the market, I sometimes have a problem with the philosophy of constructing powers. Namely, I hate oxymoronic power constructs! What's an OPC? Any ability defined in such a way as to go against the meaning of the power used to build it. Examples? Try these popular ones for speedsters: Teleport (must pass through intervening space). Excuse me? If you're passing through the intervening space, you're not teleporting!! That's what the word means! …

I am trying to design a new character and need some help. The character is basically a martial brick, but has some ego abilities. 1) Emotion Sense - Empathy. He can sense other people's emotions, use them to identify, track, and target people over a large area. (detect - emotions, sense, range, disc/ana, targeting, 360, megascale 1 km). If I did the math right, thats 50 points. I would also like to add a feedback to it (ex. a fire in a crowded theater, lots of panicing people) thats does damage to him...maybe 2-4d6 Ego attack. My question is how much (if any) of a limitation would this be? Also tinkering w/idea of magnetic fields or something like that interfering wi…

Holy flying monkeys, Batman! ...sorry...it just had to be said. And if you click on that link, you will know what I mean. So anyhow, now that you have all viewed an amazing example of avian ape art, I think you will all know where I am coming form when I say: "I want to play a flying monkey!" Say it again, this time with feeling! Now I know how to give him arm-wings and a prehensile tail, since Mr. long worked out all of those details in the superpowers database for me Thanks Steve! What I don't know how to do is give him monkey feet. I figure this kind of thing must have come up before for people trying to recreate Beast or various winged heroes with bi…

Hello, folks. I'd like to post some characters I've made, but I'm having problems to format them right in the board. The size/font/color stuff is easy, my problem is with including bigger space between the words (no matter what I do, the text appears with only one character of space between words, making it problematic to post characteristics), and also how to format paragraphs so the individual powers will appear elegantly and not run into the left margin. Could anyone copy-and-paste a character they posted with all the tabs, etc? Thanks!

OK, everyone, how much do you think normal Senses that weren't Inherent (say, a robot's) would be worth as a Disadvantage? I think it's safe to say it'd be an Uncommon circumstance for this weakness to come up, but how limiting would it be (I'm inclined to think either Greatly or Fully)? -- Pteryx (OTOH, I'd probably require at least some of a robot's PD/ED to be bought Inherent. After all, how do you Dispel, Drain, or Suppress something happening to be made of metal?)

Anybody ever done a massive damage rule for STUN, i.e., where if you take a certain amount, you are ko'd regardless of STUN total? E.g., if you take > 2xCON in STUN from a single attack, you are automatically reduced to 0 STUN?

I'm attempting to develop an offensive/defensive power for a Speedster-type character, and the special effect, basically, is as follows: If the speedster is grabbed by a stronger character or is other- wise in direct physical contact with an opponent, he or she can begin vibrating at such a high rate of speed that the oppon- ent's bones in his arms and hands (or wherever he's being touched at the time) shatter, in the same way that a wineglass will break if the right note is played on a violin or sung by someone. Any ideas on how this would look in HERO? Space Cadet

Hello all I have been thinking of using Mechas in my Golden Age Champions game as a new challenge for the heroes. I have seen an RPG/Wargame called Gear Krieg and I was wondering if you have any information about the game as well some rule conversions. I would appreciate any help I could get.

I'm creating a character that has the unusual distinction of falling in between Multiform and Shapeshifter . His powers are imbued by a special amulet ...its a lonng story . Any way , just wondering how to rectify this situation to make a fair but powerful character without his sanity going for dip into the Twilight zone . Any ideas out there ?
