Is there an Advantage to be able to make a Power Abort-to-able? I want to make a "Counter-spell" for my FH Campaign, and I want a Dispel that one can Abort to when someone else casts a spell. Can this be done? -cK

Can someone explain to me how the cost is calculated for a naked power advantage? Example: Autofire 3 shots with all pistols

Ok, I am trying to create a special type of giant squid that sits in pools of water and attacks players that come near. I purchased multiple limbs to represent the many tentacles. For the short tentacles I purchased entangle with limited range (2"). For the larger tentacles I purchased an EB with autofire (2 attacks). I am a little unclear about how the skill rapid autofire, the advantage autofire and the manuever rapid fire are differentiated. Here is what I think can happen: The Rapid Fire manuever allows a ranged attack to be used multiple times. The negative benefit is reduced OCV. The Autofire advantage allows an attack power to be used mo…

For 'Simulate Death', it mentions that your breathing and other life rates are basically 1/10 of normal. What happens if someone using Simulate Death falls/gets thrown into a pool, lake or ocean? Worse yet, a sponge? Kidding. Does the person take 10 times longer to drown? Do they drown at all, though I assume they eventually would? Assuming the drowning, how long would it take; assume a 6 SPD if that matters at all. Finally, if I want someone with SD (assuming he would drown) to be able to survive a very long time (hours) underwater, would you suggest Life Support or something else?

I'm looking for something that approximates the GURPS Martial Arts maneuver "Binding": an attacker's limb is parried, often with the help of a cord, removed shirt, or whatever loose thing the defender has on hand, thus Grabbing the attacker's limb. Generally speaking any further attacks are likewise parried and bound, and other attackers might even be trapped in the same way if there's enough rope/flag/whatever to go around. If you have ever seen a martial arts movie you have seen this move in use. Examples that spring immediately to mind include "Fong Sai Yuk" (the early fight at the sports competition, the rope fight) and "The Transporter" (the bus-depot fight). …

I've been pondering picking up TUV for a while now, and since I'm gearing up a WW2 campaign for Champs, I /think/ it might be useful, but honestly, I'm not really sure what's included. Can anyone point me to a good review?

I'm trying to build something and have started off in a few different directions only to run into problems with every avenue I try. This probably stems from my newbie status. I'm building a character, most of the information about him is unimportant. Suffice to say, he is a thrillseeking multibillionare genius media icon and has built robots far advanced from anything else in the world. He has built at least two robots (I don't know if i'll have the points for, or want, more). The first robot is a personal assistant of sorts, her main feature being interaction skills and an ungodly comliness. The second is more robot like, a body guard of sorts, which is where I run …

I was going to ask this to Steve, but I thought his head might explode Character A has invisibility. Character B has detect: invisibility. Character A also has Invisibility v. the sense "Detect Invisibility" Does this work? Does Character A remain hidden? Or does the fact that it's another invisibility work against it. Heheh. This reminds me of those logic question. ("If I drive a car at the speed of light and turn on the headlights, do they work?")

Hi gang, I have a player who has built a character with a sort of cross between N-ray and spatial awareness. What he was going for is a character with an ability to know where people are and what's going on around him, even through walls and such (like n-ray), but lacking the fine detail (as with spatial awareness). He's purchased it as a Sense, so it takes no action to apply and bought 360 degree vision. This makes it a power that's hard to get around. In this particular case, the heroes track down an NPC who has been running for their life and who is paranoid about who to trust. Into the middle of this, one of the player's hunteds (Viper) appears. Dur…

The "Mind-Numbing Stupidity" thread from the General Roleplaying board got me thinking about how to resolve the effect of swimming while carrying heavy weights. Clearly it's possible, from the anecdotal evidence of some of the participants in the thread, but the common feature of everyone who responded with "Yes, but..." is that it's not something that any old person can necessarily manage, but requires some considerable training and fitness. What I'm thinking of doing is this: Every 10% of the characters total Lift capability carried reduces the character's Swimimng by an increasing amount (sorry, don't know the correct mathematical term for this). In othe…

Has anyone ever run Hero without defined Disadvantages? I was thinking about running 5e FH at some point, and got to thinking about disadvantages, especially in light in how they are treated in D&D (not at all) and Mutants & Masterminds (very little). When running a game, I usually set out the world/setting in which the game will be run, and have people provide character backgrounds based on that setting - frequently the background will effectively include Hunteds, Psych Lims, etc., regardless of the system used. It seems one could simply say how many points characters will be made from total (e.g., 150pt starting FH characters) and ask for a background, an…

How do you rule? I'm curious, I've done a board search and thumbed through FRED and can't seem to find anything on Damage Shields vs. Entangles...(I'm sure it's probably in an obvious place, but I can't see it under damage shield or entangle)... What got me thinking of this is an Ice Character with an Ice based entangle vs. a Fire based character with a Fiery Damage Shield...as a GM I'd rule the damage shield does damage to the entangle...I mean by the letter of the rules, theoretically, the Damage Shield shouldn't do damage (not a grab, right)...but I would think special effects might count for something here... So is there an official ruling somewhere? H…

I recently had to battle a trojan horse virus on my PC (I kicked its arse, finally), and one of the files it destroyed was my bookmarks. This included my many, many great hero games links. I figure others out there also used these great resources, so heres my request, post your favorite hero games resource sites, fan sites, or campaign websites. I can go through them and find the ones I lost, and likely many others will find new ones they like too!! Sounds like a good Win-Win situation! Thanks in advance for helping me (and others out!) Just a quick FYI to let the Digital Hero playtesters know that the Fantasy Hero Grimoire playtest manuscript is now available in the usual place. We're looking forward to getting your input and feedback! If you have any questions or comments, please post them in the "Company Questions" thread on this topic.

Hi i would like to simulate the following effect : the more the character uses his/her power the more it costs him END. ( i would use it probably charges also to keep a easier way to define the return to the "first" sue after exhaustion) The difference is that the END cost increases exponientally : i.e. 1st use : x1 END 2nd use : x2 END 3rd use : x3 END 4th use : x4 END etc.. [n]th use : x[n] END any ideas ?

Hiya been away from HERO for a few years (so hard to get in the UK) so a bit rusty. I’ve a character that has electrical powers that has a continuous area effect static field around himself, that’s no problem, Change Environment 4†radius (Static Field) 0 End Persistent Always on Fills area with static, small static shocks, hair stands on end etc Also gives –1 PER to HRRH in the effected area. The problem I have is he has the ability (with effort) to amp this field up so it blocks out all radio transmission in a large area. Once this field has been amped up it tends to stick at this level (costing no end) until he consciousl…

Charges lasting variable length that cost endurance? The concept is granted power (Clerical) that can only be activated a few times a day, for simplicity sake we will say 4 times a day. Now this cleric must pay endurance on these powers and but they will last al long as the Cleric does pay the endurance, so they are not continuing charges. See my predicament? How do I would this? -1 Charges 4/Day -1/2 Uses END Just doesn’t look right. So how about. -1 Can only activate 4 times per day. This would imply that the power would still have to use END but could run as long as that END was paid? I can’t find any thing in FAQ for this. Input? …

Flipping through the Star Hero Book, I came across an item on page 149. They are a pair of gloves that do the following: +5d6 HA - double knockback. As I had a character with this once and the GM asked for me to remove it because it didn't make sense, I thought I'd ask here for some clarification. If I have the above item, how does that affect me if I have a 15 Strength? I can't imagine that I get an additional +3d6 of double knockback - otherwise, that would be a real cheap way to add modifiers to strength. Figured I'd ask here before on the rules board as Steve has enough work.

Help! I'm confused as to how best to represent how my character fuels his abilities! The character in question is a robot who can replicate crystal at a moment's notice (I presume I'll need Object Creation sooner or later, but for now I'm just figuring out the groundwork). In order to do this, he needs energy from his grid (plain old END -- no problem) and some combination of common elements which are slowly recovered as a by-product of his engine and through breathing (an Endurance Reserve with a low REC and the Personal REC disadvantage -- no problem) and/or rare elements that he can hold a good amount of, but that he does need manually refilled sometimes (my bes…

I have a question concerning the Analyze skill. Here is a bit of background so you can see what my intent is. I have a character who is an expert Shape Shifter. In addition, I have a variety of Martial Arts skills which I describe as "Using my Shape Shift powers to enhance my fighting prowess". For example, I may use my tail to strike my opponent. Then, grow a set of claws to add damage to my H-T-H attack. Things like that. If I were able to be completely random in the use of my Shape Shift power, I would be able to completely negate anyone's attempts to Analyze my Martial Arts. However, I can't be that random, so my Shape Shift power only reduces the Analyze'…

Another how-to question for the panel of experts at large... How to build the power to inflict disease on someone? I'm more interested in inflicting CV penalties (coughing, watering eyes) than inflicted short or long term damage - maybe just 1d6 of NND, if that. The NND Advantage (Defense being Disease Immunity) is obviously involved here, but I'm not sure how to build a CV penalty attack. A targeted Change Environment? Some kind of Drain or Suppress? Thanks in advance for suggestions.

What's the best way to simulate psychoactive drugs such as LSD or peyote that cause hallucinations, possibly based on something the victims has recently seen? I was thinking mental Entangle, but I want something that potentially makes such a victim dangerous to himself or to his friends nearby. I suppose Mental Illusions might work, but how do you randomize the effects so one victim (for example) turns homicidal, one dances with his high-school sweetheart in his hallucination, and another decides to take a nap?

What is the proper way to cost out smaller vehicles (like shuttles) carried on larger vehicles? I'm rewriting a bunch of old vehicle designs I have and many have smaller vehicles attached. Do they just add together? Or does the sub vehicle get some sort of discount?
