Hello everyone, I have a character in a game that I am running that will have the capacity to predict the Weather. So I suggested the Weather Eye power (USPD p.253). Basically Precog Clairsentience for weather only. It has the limitation Time Modifiers (-½), so I looked up what it meant. It says that the Power needs RSR limitation (no prob), and that the skill roll will be modified by -2 for every step on the Time Chart from the present. Ah, that would mean that to know what the weather will be like the next day would be at -18. Heck, the Skill is at -8 at 1 minute in the future! I was wondering how you guys would handle Weather Prediction?

How far can you take a mentalist? Disolification (sp)? Would it be going too far; if in a Super Heroic Campaign for a Mentalist to describe the ability to turn ones self in to a body of pure mental energy. I know it’s a Supers Campaign but I try to stay believable and in character. And since this power would be going in to a multi-power with other psionic abilities I want your input as to how far out the power would be. Thanks

Darn whoever was asking about the Traveller Shelter. Now I have this on my mind. The following is from "Penetrating ForceWalls" in the Rules Questions. I'd like a little input from the theorists out there... 2) Can Tunneling be used to move through a Force Wall if it is bought to move through sufficient DEF? 3) If so, does the tunneling automatically destroy the wall? 4) Or if bought with the adder "fills in tunnel behind him" does this allow the force wall to be repaired and not destroyed? STEVE'S REPLY 2. No. 3-4. Moot. __________________ Steve Long HERO System Line Developer And it's not important or Earth Shattering Ch…

I have a new idea for a limitation, this limitation can only be taken on MP Slots (While it could be converted for VPP's this is STRONGLY DISCOURAGED). Essentialy it is Increased Active Points: A power with this limitation is counted as having more active points for the purpose of using the MP reserve. Thus a 25 point power with a x2 Active Points would fill 50 points of a MP The level of limitation is equal to the same as Increased End

How would you build a Motion Tracker? You know like in the Aliens Movie, that the Marines were using. Would it be active like radar, or passive? Would you use some form of N-Ray Vision to since motion through walls, it would probaly be 360 degee. Yuck, this could get overly complicated and expensive quickly.

So, I wanted to build a Gamma World type of instant shelter device for Star Hero. The idea is that You create a force wall with a minimal amount of PD to keep out the elements, add in a Change environment to keep things warm and dry inside and you have an instant emergency shelter. My only thought to add to it would be some way to have people be able to walk in and out of the area without having to drop the Force Wall. Any ideas on how to do it? I was originally thinking having some sort of device (a wrist band) that could pass through it freely as well as allow anyone wearing it to pass through. Someone shows up, you toss him a wrist band and he walks in. Not s…

After reading some Goodkind, I was thinking about the Confessor power. How much Mind Control would it take to order someone to will themselves to death?

Holy Double Entendres, heroes! The confusion refers to my state of mind as well as power I'm trying to create. I've got a villain named Scatterbrain who has a specific set of mental powers, confusion based primarily. One power is inspired by (but doesn't have to mimic) a D&D confusion spell. It's a Mind Control that can be partially resisted by almsot anyone. If you fail to resist (miss your "saving throw") you mistake friends for enemies and are likely to attack them. If you make the roll (and thus partially resist the effect), you just stand around stupified for a short period of time. Of course, just like regular mind controls, its possible to shrug o…

Power Description: Force screens somewhat resembling those from "Doc" Smith's Lensmen series. Starships are equipped with three or four courses of defensive screens. Once a screen is penetrated, it goes away, and cannot easily or immediately be restored. But until that time, it holds up, and provides completely effective coverage. To simulate this, I started out with Force Wall. To keep things simple, I looked at Charges. A ship can only have 3 or 4 screens active, at maximum; so I assign Charges to the power, 3 per day. Since the ship is expected to be able to function for extended periods of combat with its screens up, I gave it Continuing Charges (1 day). A…

why are these both 10 ponts/the same damage class? 1/2d6 does 1-3 while 1d6-1 does 1-5. Whats up with that? Why would you ever choose to take a half die as opposed to the clearly better 1d6-1 for the same cost?

Hi- I'm brand new to Hero. Picked it up because I liked the way the book looked and I liked the notion of one set of rules for building everything. I'm getting ready to try my first session with it, a conversion of my current campaign from D20 Modern to Hero. But I'm butting up against a question about how to handle one of my PC's. The setting's something like a cross between Unknown Armies and Angel. I've got a player who's a pretty typical magic user. It seems that Variable Power Pools are the best way to handle spellcasting but I'm at a loss to see what the disadvantages are. What keeps my player from having a virtually unlimited number spells (powers) …

It's easy to calculate how much stronger (STR) or faster (SPD) a superhuman is than a normal with stats in the 8-10 range, but how do you calculate how much better a superhuman's abilities are when the ability is more esoteric? For example, how much better are the reflexes of a super with a 23 DEX than a normal human's with an 8 DEX? Is it as simple as 23/8 = 2.87, and therefore the superhuman's reflexes are 287% better than normal? Is a superhero with a 20 EGO possessed of more than twice as much willpower as a normal? How would you calculate such a thing? Any ideas?

If you want to make a character with more than four maneuvers, could you save points by making all of your maneuvers have no DC bonus and buying all of your DCs separately?

Just FYI, we updated the Rules FAQ today. The PDFs, etc., are not yet updated AFAIK. Please post any questions or the like in the "Company Questions" thread on this topic.

There was one part of the Summon rules that realy suprised me and I just can't see how this could possibly be correct. But maybe you can convince me. The rule is summoned vehicles (machines) requiring a +1 slavishly loyal modifier. I can think of nothing more neutral than something that has no will of it's own. Like summoning a slavishly loyal pet rock. A machine that doesn't at least contain a "sentient" computer is incapable of loyalty to anyone. Granted a car will obey whoever is behind the wheel without complaint but it will obey anyone who is behind the wheel. If the vilain knocks you out and takes you're car keys the car is now slavishly loyal to …

How do you simulate a being that is virtually impervious to pain? There are a couple options that I can come up with right off the top of my head but don't know which way to go. And hope fully one of you might have an even better idea. 1-Simply increases PD and ED to high level, say 40 (or 50); and buy the last 20 (or 30) points at -1/2 Stun Only. 2-Damage Reduction PD and ED 75%, -1/2 Stun Only. I don't know if I would make this resistant or not. What do you think? Thanks

In fantasy, sometimes characters take wounds that never fully heal (Froto had three). While less common in superheroics, I have a villian constructing a magic knife that will make a wound the Wolverine clone will not be able to shrug off overnight. I'm thinking of penetraiting HKA, linked to a very long continuing charge of supress aid. Any ideas? Thanking everyone in advance for their input.

Could a possessing spirit who grants the host body a slew of powers (in an EC) be defined as an IIF? The theory here is, like nanites, or cyberware, a possessing spirit could, theoretically be removed from the host body, but it's not something that could be done during combat, and the act of doing so would be rather involved and complex. Thanks, Nuada

Hiya... I'm trying to create a Summon power, and am having a little problem getting it to match my concept. My character is based in Egyptian mythology, and I want to be able to summon a limited, but variety of creatures with an ancient Egyptian flavor. First, the Summon is in a Multipower. The Expanded Class advantage covers the variety of creatures summoned, but the problem I'm coming across is the number summoned. I'd like to be able to summon a single, somewhat more powerful creature, say an Anubis Warrior, or a pack of jackals, or a swarm of locusts, etc, where the power level of each creature summoned was proportionate to the number summone…

Assume a character possesses the ability to Summon one specific person. Let's say he's a young wizard who can Summon the spirit of his departed mentor (the necromancy option presented in FREd). He pays a +1 advantage for Summoning a Specific Being. Presumably, he also pays for his mentor to be Amicable, but I guess that depends on the relationship. Because he can summon only that one specific spirit, and not "Spirits of the Dead" in general, it seems reasonable the character should get a limitation. After all, he can't talk to his mentor, find out he doesn't know the answer and summon up a different spirit who does. And if something has happened to the one…

If a character can surround herself with a watery sheath to protect herself from harm, and defines it as 'armor'. Then applies the Only in Hero ID, then takes the Instant change power as well. Can they then change forms as a 0 phase action, no longer limited by the disadvantage. I'd say not, but I'm not sure. [admits]

So, I thought FH's Lingering was fantastic. Loved it. But I want to do something I've seen in a lot of other systems, and I can't figure out how to do it in HERO. FH has a spell called Arcane Eye. I want to do something at the master level. Basically, for those w/o FH, it's Detect Magic, discriminatory, analyze Now, I want to make this spell work so that the more time you look at an object, the more effective it is. So, you look at a sword, and you can detect that it's magic. A phase later, you can detect that it's imbued with fire magic. A bit later, you can detect that it can shoot a mid-level flame burst to a range of about thirty feet. The only …

If a base has Life Support or Change Environment (heating/cooling) that costs END to use per phase, how many phases do they use END per Turn? Since bases have no Speed, how do I know how often the base's Life Support or Change Environment draws from the base's END Reserve (generator)? Acroyear II
