I'm working on powers in the power pool of a character that just got a Radiation Accident that transformed her from a mutated felinoid to a metamorph. Her core power is to become a humanoid with the powers of any mammal. I've got more than a few done (dolphin, bat, sloth, elephant, big cat, rhino, armadillo), but how to do the spray of the skunk continues to elude me. I know it has to be done as a linked power to do it all. I'm thinking a NND with a linked flash vs. smell and a linked cosmetic transform (person to very smell person, healed by washing in tomato juice). Does this seem to be correct? (Skunks are, I note, missing from the Bestiary for, I bet, ju…

How do i build up a power? 1)how do i know how much d6 a power will have? 2)how do i know how much active points a power has? 3)Does how many activepoints you put in a power help to build up the sort of damage a power does or is that another calculation? If it is please add to the formula I know you need 1) the cost per power I want to build up a power first without advantages and limitations . Is there a step-by-step help how to build up a power? eg ForceField or Energyblast... of anything you like to create an example; please add what the formula looks like

I was just reading the house rule thread and I want to ask about the following and didn’t want to just tack my question on to the tread 3 pages later. TheEmerger wrote: “After that, my biggest change would be to adjust the base value formulas for most of the Figured Attributes -- specifically to reduce the influence of STR and CON on them. Concurrent with this, I would make Mental Defense a figured attribute instead of a power.†This is a really intrusting statement, and I have thought about it before (the refiguring of the attribute part). Anyway what I would like to hear your reasoning on this and how you would change it. The second part about Me…

reduced penetration for Body is -1/4 does no stun is -1 I think I am thinking of a lash specifically but could also be a slap attack - where any protection largely negates the attack. So I want reduced penetration but applicable for both body and stun. I am thnking a -1/2 lim seems right. Of course being HERO I could also buy fewer dice with an NND - defense being armor. But that lacks the fine detail I want - tough characters would ignore the lash but those with low PD would get hurt a lot I could also buy two attacks and link them, which is probably the normal way of doing it. so does -1/2 seem right and simple and convenient?

I had an idea on how to handle Stun, End, and Body Each character is given 6 pklastic cups, 3 clear, 3 colored(Blue, red, green) In the clear cups each character is given a number of beads equal to Stun (Blue), End (green), and Body (red) Everytime a character uses end or takes damage the beads are removed from the clear cups and placed in the colored ones in the appropriate cup. This will make it so that everyone can see how you are doing, but not knowing exactly how it is going (you can see that GROD is hurt and tired because of the low stun and end left, but you don't know his stun or endurance total) Thoughts? ANything I am overlooking?

not sure if this has been brought up before, it isn't so much a rule thing as a problem with the example. I think it is curare. The poison is bought with the +2 advantage NND does Body. Which is the advantage of doing body without having to get through the enemy's defenses. But then it has the -1/4 limitation - attack must have done body already. So the power has a +2 advantage to ignore defenses and a -1/4 limitation that the character must already have penetrated the defenses - rendering the entire +2 advantage pointless.

Hi everybody, I'm just getting into the HERO System and am planning on running a mini-campaign featuring the PCs as gladiators in Ancient Rome. I've got a handle on combat, maneuvers, etc. What I'm interested in is anyone's take(s) on lariats and nets as combat weapons. Being a HERO noob, I'm still acquainting myself with the powers system and I'd like to see other peoples' examples of building weapons with powers. I'm thinking Entangle as a base, then what? Would Grab (like with the whip) be better for lariat? Any online or print sources would be welcome as well. Thanks in advance! -David

I have several times seen the suggestion for a house rule to make mental defense a figured characteristic. In other words, all characters would start with EGO/5 points of Mental Defense for free. The idea sort of interests me, so I started thinking, what about Power Defense? Would would happen if you gave everyone Power Defense equal to BODY/5? Both could be treated the same way as PD and ED, with a normal characteristic maximum of 8 and costing 1 cp per point to increase. I suppose the Age disadvantage would increase the maximum for Mental Defense, and probably decrease the maximum for Power Defense. What do you think, assembled Herodom? SkyKn…

I have used the Hero system for many years now, but I must confess I have never played a character or had a character in my group use this power. I have read the rule time and time again and still I am not quite sure I totally understand this power. As I read it, a PC only absorbs the Body from an attack prior to the attack being applied to te PC's defenses (unless the absortion adds to the defenses, in which case the absorbtion is done after the damage is applied to defenses). However, the stun is applied as normal. Rarely do I see attacks that exceed 14DC. meaning the maximum amout of points a character will absorb is 28 pts, but the character is still subjec…

Well, i've a(nother) problem RedCap has some points left (16 points) and i've no idea of what power to build... I'll talk about her: She's.. she WAS a very beautiful girl, she was secretary in a laboratory structure, before accident... Some machinery is exploded, nearly all people fleed, she was not so fast, and radiation invested her. Now, right legs, tight, breast, shoulder, arm and right side of the face is orribly scared; not deformed, only visible veins through pallid skin When she was child, her dreams was to be a "beautiful faire", now she's only a "Red Cap". Not only her aspect, even her body was changed; now she's able to control some form of en…

I'm designing an anthro that can run as fast as a cheetah. Let's say he looks something like this: http://vcl.ctrl-c.liu.se/vcl/Artists/Kenket/Swara.jpg Anyhow, using one of the spreadsheets I found in the free stuff section, I figure he needs a running of +18". This gives him a normal running speed of about 35 mph or a NCM of about 71 mph, which should be just about right. Now here's the tricky part that I don't know how to do yet: 1) I have no problem with him running at 35 mph normally, but I only want him to be able to "sprint" (using NCM) once in a while, for a short duration and with it tending to tire him out quickly. What would be the best wa…

I'd like the opinion of Herodom Assembled on this one. I'm preparing to GM for the first time, and I'm overseeing character creation. One of my players has a mentalist whose powers come from a strange helmet that he's learned to control. The player also likes the idea of his character's mental powers being visible. The trouble is, I'm not sure if these two limitations make sense on most (if not all) of his powers: Mental Illusions, OAF (helmet) -1/2, Visible -1/4. Mind Scan, OAF, Visible. and my favorite: Mind Link, OAF, Visible. Now, if an illusion has a visible power effect, wouldn't that make it less likely to work? ("Uhm, Bob, there's a weird blue …

I was trying to work out a type of Mind Control used by a very nasty character that passed from person to person bringing them under the 'masters' will. A mental virus if you will. Once infected the next person would pass it on until it came across someone who was immune (good mental defences). Basicaly, the PCs can fight the effect with the right adjustments (immunizations) but everyone that they didn't protect would be infected. Anyone see Spiral Zone? Something like that, but more agressive. How the heck do I build this?

Hey, Steve! This is a special effect/powerset question I've been trying to figure out how to work for a long time. Essentially, how can one duplicate the ability of the Atom (DC Comics) to travel virtually anywhere via making a phone call and traveling across the phone lines, or the villain 9-Jack-9 (Zot) to travel via from place to place instantly via the electric power grid? There are other characters who can do similar things via the Internet. This would obviously seem like a sort of Teleport (using Mega-Scale in most cases), but how does one get around not being able to see the destination point and also not having it established as a memorized location?

I have a character who makes his own fireworks. I had to redesign the character and decided the fireworks skill is best represented in a VPP. All fireworks are IAF, Limit (Doesn't work in Water), and RSR(PS: Fireworks) My character has four basic fireworks types right now: Smoke Bomb (Darkness to Sight 1") Firecracker (1pip, Armor Piercing) 1d6 Sight Flash Concussion Bomb (+10 Leaping, no non-combat movement) Right now I have a limit of 10 Active Points in the VPP. I'm looking for any ideas for fireworks that can give my character a variety of things to bring in with him on a job.

Okay, I did not want to post this on the rules boards, as I want to here multiple ideas, but Steve please do respond. The rules issue is one on Foci, specificaly obvious/inobvious My understanding is that if the power is in use it is obviously coming from the Foci then it is obvious, if the item is just needed for the power (a ring that grans EB's from the eyes) then it is Inobvious. My problem comes from varius write ups that hold that if the gadget is NOT in use, but is hidden then it is Inobvious, even when you pull the item out it becomes obvious (A sword hidden in a cane)

This is more of a ‘curiosity’ type question. I was going through the Heroes book and read the section on Combat Skill Levels. It occurred to me that the 8-point CSL seemed odd (not that I ever use it). Why 8 points? An 8 point CSL gives you +1 OCV OR +1 DCV, determined at the start of your phase. For 1 more point, you get +1 OCV AND +1 DCV, all the time. Plus you might get a +1 bonus to all of your Dex-rolls. Plus, for either +0 or +1 points, you get a +1 to your SPD. Given all this, I was wondering why an 8-point CSL exists? BTW: This is just curiosity. Like I said, I never use the 8-point CSL. I use either 3-point skill levels (for one power) or 1…

Hi, I have a champions character who has 3 forms: one is a normal human, another is a magma elemental, and another is a vengeance sprite (think on of the Furies from Greek myth, except male and meaner). Each of these beings is possessing a single form, but have recently gained the ability to take over the form individually (multiform). All three of these forms have 'accidental change' in their disads, and the vengeance sprite is especially greedy/dominant, in that it takes both the human and the magma elemental's will to 'accidentally change' away from the vengeance sprite form (these changes can also be done voluntarily by me, the player, but there is some chan…

The FREd Errata says to "write in 'pizza box' where is says, 'machine gun'" on page 327. As far as I can tell, it doesn't say 'machine gun' anywhere on that page. What's the deal? I assume this is meant to be a joke. Could you explain it please? I don't get it.

I am trying to come up with a power that is like the Whirl Wind Attack of D&D. The idea is that a fighter can take one full attack against any and every oppenent (s)he can reach. I looked at the hand-to-hand weapons in the chart at the back of the book, and I believe the largest Base Point cost is about 35 points. I am inclined to build the power as a naked Advantage: (Naked) Area of Effect: 2" radius, selective target (+1); Works with any hand-to-hand attack with 35 or fewer Base Points (-0); Concentrate: 1/2 DCV (-1/4); End x2 (-1/2); Extra Time: Full Phase (-1/2) [35 active, 16 real, 7 End] I am having a little bit of difficulty with what happens when …

Hello all. I have always liked the Rifts setting, but hated the system and recently I began to study on how I would want to run a Rifts Hero campaign. I do not want to do a conversion, but instead am looking at capturing the feel and ideas presented in Rifts. With that in mind I began to study how I would want my players to create their characters. I want them to be able to create just about any character since a dimensional rift could have deposited them on the Rifts world. So, with this in mind I have a couple of question. 1) Is Rifts a superheroic level or a heroic level campaign? This is the first a most basic question of the campaign. At the moment …

Hi Everyone, I was just wondering if someone could clarify for me the rules for using objects of opportunity (cars, lamp-posts, baseball bats) in Champions. My understanding is that the target takes the number of points of DEF and BODY that the object has in dice damage (eg. if it had Def=3 and Body=2 the target would take 5d6 normal damage). Is this correct? Do you get to add strength? Thanks for your help Daz

Here we have an old trick. The character takes a poison that "kills" him, only to let him come back a few days later. I was thinking about how to approach this. First of all, invisible power effects for body (10 points aught to do it). We'll couple that with a whopping Drain STUN ( 60 points, pluss a couple of extended time period advantages) just to keep the character down and out for a while. add all necessary limitations (OAF, Fragile, 1 charge, no range for the stun). As soon as the "dearly departed" regains enough stun to wake up, the invisible power effects wear off. Does that work? Sorry, I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find it. He…

This is a power concept that I want to surprise my GM with... Auto-Defenses. The idea is that I combine a computer, special senses (including ‘Future-Seeing’ for 1 phase), and a power pool for defenses. This would actually be a power and not a device (which it appears to be with the inclusion of a computer). The computer would automatically adjust the Power Pool to contain the proper defenses needed for that phase. By using a computer, it can be almost completely independent of me. My only control would be turning it on or off. For most types of attacks, there would be no problems. The pool creates the appropriate defense power. Even ALVD powers can be dea…
