As promised, here is the poll! I'm asking you to vote on two things: A: Which stories were the best? You may choose up to three (3) on this question. 2: Was it enjoyable doing it this way? Make your choices now, and thank you all for playing! Rosters are shown below (under a Spoiler tag for verbosity): Spoiler Galactus Comes to the MCU Location: The Blue Area of the Moon The Leader: Stever Rogers (Old Man Cap, Avengers: Endgame) The Dragon: Terrax the Tamer The Mystic/Psychic Weirdo: Wanda Maximoff (MCU) The Femme Fatale: She-Hulk The Big Ba…

[So as not to further derail the RIP Meatloaf topic] Hello, all you Hero old-timers! 😁 😘 SCUBA Hero here. I've not been on the forums much, but want to start spending more time here again. I am still with my long-term gaming group of mumble mumble years. I've switched jobs and travel quite a bit, so I sometimes cannot attend the sessions, but I do when I can and enjoy it muchly. The current campaign is golden age; I am playing a speedster named DoubleTime! (the exclamation point is in his name). I've had a lot of fun running him. Lots of names here I still recognize, and new friends to meet. So say 'hi' here if you'd li…

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/12/04/nyregion/grand-jury-said-to-bring-no-charges-in-staten-island-chokehold-death-of-eric-garner.html?_r=0 Now, I wonder how many people confused by the recent mess in Ferguson are going to be similarly stymied by the especially vague circumstances of this civilian death?

Holy lack of prior notice! It's the January 2022 Impromptu Superdraft! What: This is a supers draft. You'll be making one selection each weekday, starting today and running until Wednesday, January 19th. All selections are exclusive. Who: All the usual rules about different versions of the same character apply. In short, different characters with the same name are fine; different versions of the same character are out. (For example, if Ant-Man Hank Pym is drafted, you could still draft Ant-Man Scott Lang, but not Yellowjacket Hank Pym.) When: You will make a pick each weekday, starting today, at noon Eastern Standard Time. No, I don't …

So apparently JMS will be making a new Babylon 5 universe show. Not a lot of details except it will not be a "reboot" and it will not include characters from the original B5. JMS has said that it will allow him to make the story that he originally wanted to. But it will be on the CW. I don't really know what to think. The B5 universe has a lot of great stories to tell, but will it be a solid show where the story was the priority like the original? Or will it be yet another modern production where identity politics is everything and story is a distant afterthought which has become the CW standard? From what I have read JMS is s…

Good day! This is a slightly unusual question, but I figure a few members of our fine message board are up to the task of answering . For the longest while, I've been meaning to replace the prefabricated bookshelves in my study with custom built bookshelves that include glass/impact resistant plastic doors on each level. Anyhow, I went back in a few days ago and discovered that some rodent got onto the lower shelves (themselves a mere three or so inches off the floor) and scurried along there. I'm not comfortable with dirt in general, but I'd like to salvage these books by what ought to be easy cleaning. Most of the books are hardcovers for various…

HONG KONG—The governing body of the city’s oldest university removed a statue commemorating the victims of the Tiananmen Square massacre, felling one of the most prominent monuments to the incident on Chinese soil. The Council of the University of Hong Kong said in a statement Thursday that it made the decision based on legal and risk assessments. It said that no party had ever obtained approval from the university to display the statue on campus. https://www.wsj.com/articles/hong-kong-university-pulls-down-monument-to-tiananmen-massacre-victims-11640230213?fbclid=IwAR11mAVrfz7WZUzikXOxaAqXxBUSrrF3Pe_UQ9s4h64ZET68RLywCPOmnDg

Wait, college football in April? Yes! The 2020 FCS playoffs (postponed from last fall) begin this weekend. The FCS championship game is scheduled to be played Saturday, May 16th in Frisco, Texas. Spring games are also underway, and of course transfers and the upcoming NFL draft will all play a role as well. It's not the usual version of spring football. The 2020 FBS season was one of the strangest on record. Will 2021 be any saner?

My family and I met Duke and his family today, and they are lovely people! We met them at the North Carolina History Museum in Raleigh, after which we had lunch together. Sadly we couldn't have more time together. Maybe next time we're in Raleigh!

In the Before Times, my oldest sister hosted our family's Christmas. Every year, she chose a different cultural theme: Norwegian Christmas, Polish Christmas, South African Christmas, etc. Her last was IMO the best: Saturnalia, the Roman predecessor to Christmas. We had a Saturnalia feast, somewhat modified (vegetarian, and no vomiting in a tub to make room for more feasting). She handed out swag bags of traditional Roman gifts. She made a mix tape (well, CD) of suitable music to play during dinner. There were even a couple pages about the Roman attitudes to Saturnalia. We love being nerds! Here is the menu and other material, to help yo…

There is a lot of great music associated with this time of year - uplifting, encouraging, celebratory, and peaceful. But, if we're being completely honest, there's also a lot of crap. This is a thread where you can vent about that.
