I don't know if anyone was interested in what little progress I'd made, and what I did make was thanks in no small part to their ideas and suggestions of others. I decided to put Cape Haven in NC for now (Though, who knows, I might change it again before all is said and done) thanks to Lord Liaden's points but it's definitely going into the South East. I decided to avoid Florida because I didn't want it to bump too closely with Vibora Bay or Miami... or Orlando for that matter (Disney is a VIPER front I'm sure of it). I'm using a paint program and a free map program someone pointed me to, so I wouldn't say the design is exact, but you get what you paid for and I p…

Heya, folks. I want to create a power for someone who can change their hands into any blade, similar to Warblade of the original WildCATS comic. Essentially I want a person who can either create a lockpick from one finger, or shove a mini-trident through someone 1" away. They should be able to turn their hand/forearm into a knife, spear, sword, trident...whatever. Heck, maybe even a shovel or pick. VPP sounds like the way to go, but I might be missin' something. Also, I'm not sure what, if any, modifiers would be useful. I'm overthinking this, I know, which is why I'm confusing myself. I'm hoping someone can KISS this idea and make me go, "Duh!" So...…

Alright guys I have started a few things with Telios in the past but am now thinking of coming up with a long term subtle plan for the campaign for him. For those that don't know who Telios is, he is a genetics and biological mastermind type character. So I would like some suggestions for a long term goal for such a character that is achievable in say 20 yrs or so. So far one idea I have came up with is that he has influenced world food markets to dump bio engineered food in places that need food badly and inserted a dormant gene in it. When the gene is established sufficiently he will send out the triger for it to activate. Haven't figured out what that gene mi…

Nothing written in stone yet, but I may have a chance to get a PC going in HEROcentral. The concept I am thinking of is a Powered Armor type, the guy gets his suit from either some alien storage, or an alien itself (Working on the details, I don't want to rip off the Hal Jordan thing to much). I was thinking of having the guy working at NASA. An Astronaut is a pretty cool secret ID after all, kind of glamourous. On the other hand, it occurs to me that might be overdone or unlikely. Maybe some sort of technician or scientist would be an option? Heck, maybe the janitor. Then it occured to me I have little idea what sort of skills an Astronaut needs for his job. I know …

Both villains are listed in DEMON on page 127 as flunkies of the new Millenium City Morbane, but they're new to me. Are they listed anywhere in the 'official' material, or are they only in Digital hero or what? From the names I get the idea of a monstrous brick and a woman with mystic powers of darkness control, but that's just me.

On my home page I have posted (with kind permission from Steve Long) the text of my 1990 CHAMPIONS Fourth Edition superhero-horror adventure "Anopheles," published under the title "Horror World" in Iron Crown's supplement Champions in 3-D, edited by Rob Bell. The URL: http://www.allenvarney.com/anopheles.html This adventure, one of a collection of alternate-universe scenarios, is set in a modern-day parallel world where Cthulhoid monstrosities have taken over. The premise is that back in the 1920s, heroic investigators fought dark cults to keep the world safe from these other-dimensional entities -- and they failed. Now it's decades later, most life on Earth h…

Traditionally, all my campaigns have started 'Avengers' style ... a bunch of random heroes with no particular theme or common origin get together ... each with their own set of Hunteds, etc. For a change of pace, I thought I'd do something more like the Fantastic Four ... with all the heroes getting their powers roughly simultaneously from the same source. The idea is that this super-scientist (a normal at the time) has gone on a big 'the world is corrupt' schpiel and he feels that only he is intelligent enough to run it smoothly. He's also aware of the properties of Kelvarite and has decided that he's going to try to create a cadre of super-soldiers to serve as hi…

As an interesting challenge, I was thinking we could bounce around some ideas about how to take seemingly lame character concepts and improve them so that they actually come across as interesting and involving characters. I'm not talking about taking truly lame characters and making them "kewl," but tackling some of the classic character powers that don't seem to translate well into comic book games. For example, in a game I ran several years ago, I had a female player who created a hero with prehensile hair. She was also made her a martial artist can could take on an entire room full of agents without too much trouble (stretching with her hair, multiple attacks, e…

I've been tinkering up a team concept from the more Mystic World based game. What kind of characters/team would be a good theme to introduce players to this setting? Are you running such a game?

Some of you may remember this thread: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?p=427180 Basically it was about Super heroes who were tied to their city in mood or feel. It transformed into some speculation about a league of heroes, each one from a different city uniting together in times of crisis. It inspired me to go ahead and try to flesh out a team along that vein, one I am dubbing "The Civic Guard" . I'm looking more for concepts and background for possible NPC members than actual character sheets, though I picture the points being anywhere from 450 to 600. I also am trying to keep the concepts cheifly serious, some humor, but no joke charac…

Just wanted to let the Digital Hero playtesters and testreaders know that the Ultimate Mystic manuscript is now available in the usual place. Hope you like it! If you have any questions or comments, please post 'em in the "Company Questions" thread of the same name.

Is it just me, or are there "more than a few" similarities between the official Champions universe and the Marvel universe? These are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head: Dr. Destoryer = Dr Doom Mechanon = Ultron Fabulous Five = Fantastic Four Instute for Human Advancement = generic Marvel anti-mutant crap Minutemen = Sentinels Grond = The Hulk Ravenswood Academy = Xavier's School (although more like one of the Saturday mourning cartoons than the comic) In fact, I think the only homage the Champs uni has to DC at all is the Harbringer of Justice (better known as Batman) and he only occures in Dark Champions.

I'm just throwing this out to see if anyone likes it and can use it. The most scientificly advanced character in your group is approached by Dr. Destroyer, either in person, or by proxy. He has this to say: "My agents have discovered a hidden jungle valley in (remote location of GM choice). This valley is unique in that normal laws of physics do not apply there. To be precise, it is impossible to use ANY form of technology there. Internal combustion engines will not work, batteries will not work, even spring-driven radio will not work. Nor does it end there. If you stand on a lever, or use a block and tackle there is no multiplication of force. Flint will…

Foxbat tried to be a good guy tonight when the team took on the villain Super Squirrel. The squirrels used explosive acorns as a weapon. It wasn't very effective but Foxbat realized a new plan. He gathered about 24 explosive acorns and then went into the wilderness to gather more non-explosive acorns. Acorn Stash: 3d6 EB, Explosive, Charges 48, Activation Roll 11-

Great Gaming Moments One: The Glory of the Activation roll. Or opps I didn’t do it again. One thing that I love about Champions is that because of greed, concept or necessity players in order to get a power or effect need to take a little thing like activation rolls. This thread is about those stories, about great moments in gaming which activations affected the play good or bad. The Game: El Paso Sentinels game around 1984 (game started 1982 and has in one form or anther been run ever sinceJ) The Gamemaster-LordGhee. When adapting a published character or creating a power, what do you consider the most important? Point cost (the most expensive or the least expensive is best)? The effect that most accurately does what you want with the least handwaving, point cost be damned? The simplest and most straightforward regardless of the amount of handwaving? Getting EVERYTHING you've seen the character do down on the sheet? (In the case of Adaptations) Getting a character that feels like the character in the source material? Something else?

This is Coldilocks. I am thinking of using her as a foil for the Martian Manhunter homage a player in my campaign is playing. ( Instead of losing his powers around fire, he loses them in the Cold. He has a random mix of semi-unrelated powers, in addition to being a 75 Str brick. And he's from Mercury. )ColdilocksPlayer: Val Char Cost 10 STR 0 23 DEX 39 15 CON 10 11 BODY 2 13 INT 3 14 EGO 8 15 PRE 5 16 COM 3 5/15 PD 0 8/18 ED 2 6 SPD 27 8 REC 6 30 END 0 24 STUN 0 6" RUN02" SWIM02" LEAP0Characteristics Cost: 105Cost Power END 20 Cold Powers: Elemental Control, 40-point powers 14 1) Aura of Cold: Change Environment 4" radi…

I have a PC that wants to have spacial awareness. I'm curious how other GM's (or players) see this as working. In the Fred write up it's not completely clear (pun intended) if it allows one to sense through objects or not, or around corners or not. The PC is of the view that it acts like N-ray vision. Since it costs 22 points it should be somewhat more useful than N-ray (10 points). As an unusual sense it can't be flashed so that does provide some benefit - but not 12 points in my mind. I need to come to a decision on how it's going to work so he and I can agree on it before gametime.

A player in my group has come up with two very confusing/expensive character concepts that perplex me as to making affordable and balanced. The group is Standard Superheroic (200 Base + 150 Disadvantage Points) with an Active Point limit of 60 (I allow a 3-Point Leeway). -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The first he came up with was a character that is a sentient dimensional hole. Dimensional Manipulation Powers from USPD covers a few of the things that he can do, but the fact is that much of him is either inherent or makes sense to me (as far as superheroics can make sense). I get his concept, but he is expensive as fa…

I'm at it again, working on a new character for a new player(4 new players completely new to HERO in one week, I'm getting character creation overload ) So this charcter will be a CIA agent, with a specialty in spying, espionage, and covert intellegence gathering. The character will also be an exper sniper and skilled in demolitions, but I've got a handle on those. So I'm compiling a list of skills for the spy portion of him him. Here's what I have so far... Concealment bugging KS: spy gear lip reading security systems shadowing stealth electronics lockpicking climbing my brain is fried , and I need some help with the skill list.

I will most likely be temporarily taking over a GGU game set in Canada. I'd like a few plot seeds for adventures/scenarios that would be relevant to Canadians and hopefully not too sterotyped. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

This question is for Steve. Should I get the USPD or wait for the USPD 2005 edition? Will there be any major differences in editions or will they be very similiar?

If that's even the word I'm looking for. Basically, I'm curious as to what skills you think someone who just owns a large corporation, but has little to do with its day to day operations would have. Essentially, the kinds of skills that Bruce Wayne would demonstrate in his role as president of Wayne Enterprises, or that sort of character would have.

I've got an archer character. I'm going to buy him Indirect as a Naked Advantage that can be applied to any of his arrows. (SFX: He's so good at bouncing attacks, he doesn't need to burn Combat Skill Levels to do it.) On the Naked Advantage itself, I want to have Requires A Skill Roll (his Power: Incredible Archery skill), and Side Effects. The Side Effect would be that if he misses his Power Skill Roll, he failed to bounce the attack correctly, so the attack virtually always misses the intended target. I'm looking at defining the Side Effect as Extreme (-1) and the 60 Active Points of drawbacks it gives me as 12 Negative Combat Skill Levels with Ranged Atta…
