As a general concept question, Can you use Mas with TK? I can see certain manuvers (like throws) not being usable. But I'm talking in general.

I've been in the mood to get some graphic novels. I've been putting it off because they're just SOOO expensive, but I'm in a situation where I have a lot of time on my hands to read, and my reading list is getting kind of thin. I'm mostly a Marvel fan. The first graphic novel I ever bought was Secret Wars. I did buy Dark Knight Returns (and loved it) so I'm not ruleing out any DC stuff. I'm thinking maybe some of the Marvel Essential series (although I already KNOW the origins of my favorite heros, so maybe I'll skip Vol Ones). I just really don't want to pay all that money for stuff I've read a dozen times already. I'm thinking Spiderman, X-Men or Avengers…

Hope this is the right place to ask this, but -- two problems with Doctor Teneber's background in ARCANE ADVERSARIES. First of all, where is the missing text? His story goes from learning about Palo Mayombe to something about Thessaly, Ancient Egypt, and whatnot. Am I missing it, or is it just gone? Second -- just what the heck /is/ Palo Mayombe? I've heard of it, but it sounds like a Satanic/dark-side version of Voodoo. Mayomberos are supposedly behind a black market in human body parts in the deep south, and I remember reading about the nganga, a talisman made from human brains, among other things, boiled in their owner's skull. Any help would be vastly …

According to the online description of the Champions book, it states: "Champions is usable as a stand-alone product, but does not include the HERO System rules, only discussions of how to apply those rules. For the rules themselves, you'll need the HERO System 5th Edition core rulebook." This is slightly unclear... if Champions is usable as a stand-alone product, that would imply that you don't need the Hero core rulebook to play the game. Yet without the rules that are defined in the core rulebook, can you really play the game? What am I missing here?

Over on RPGnet a discussion has been going on about how to incorporate real-world issues into a game world featuring super-powered beings. It's an interesting topic with some very good advice put forth: you can read it here. One of the posters, SteveD, suggested that one could take any of the scenarios from the television series The West Wing and add supers to the mix. Another poster asked for examples, and SteveD's response was such a hoot (especially for WW fans) that I had to share it:

Just out of curiosity, in your game(s), what is a typical DEX score for the major archetypes of Brick Martial Artist Speedster Energy Projector? (I know there are other archetypes, but I consider those the big 4.)

Hi All, This is one that I've been thinking of for quite a while...the best artist in comics. Just trying to narrow this one down, in any way, is an almost impossible task. For every choice I'm sure there are a dozen as worthy and, like in all of these polls, I'm sure I neglected some who richly sdeserve to be mentioned. Ah well, nothings perfect, least of all my polls. Anyway, the 10 I've selected (entirely arbitrarily, lol) are: John Byrne: perhaps the definitive artist of the 70's and proably the most stylistically copied artist ever. Neal Adams: the guy that John Byrne copied. Adams revolutionized the medium and di thing with panels that no one ha…

Many people seem to like to complain about the amount of Body Damage MA can do (especialy to inanimate objects), well I just came up with an idea: All MA Manuvers are considered to have the Reduced Penetration limitation on them. They will still break bones on most, but will have alot less effect on inanimate objects Note: In my game I will be staying with the standard

Not the PCs, but maybe to help show just /how dangerous/ some villains and organizations are in the Champs Universe (or your own), deliberatly making up a hero or three who get on the bad side of VIPER or Destroyer, make some DUMB mistakes, survive long enough to have some history with the PCs -- and then get killed in horrid fashion. Just to help get the idea across that these people are truly as dangerous as shown in their soucebooks. And maybe so the PCs won't do anything too recklessly stupid (and get a reason to personally dislike the villains). Good idea, bad idea, or what?

The opinion was voiced recently that 350 point character are "schmucks" in the Dark Champions forum. Not my choice of words, but there you have it. How many people share that opinion? Personally, I've found the 350 or so level is where I most enjoy Champions and I've found the characters (creatively created and used) to be pretty competent and fun to play. Compared to Monsters like Dr. Destroyer and Tyrannanon? I guess not, but I tend to rate characters more on what they are in the "real world". Maybe it comes from using Hero more on the Hero level than the Superheroic.

I've been toying around with some Rules of X that I think might be good, but I'd like to see what other people are using or have considered, too. I'm interested in different power levels, exploits, and anything else you want to add on the subject. DC(best) * SPD = 60 (350pt game) I really like this one as it captures how often any given character could be doing their damage. You end up with a 5spd/12dc or 6spd/10dc base, which is fine and promotes a lot of secondary powers. I could also see an "X" value of 65 or 70 in a 350pt game, if more players are involved, in order to encourage specialization. What I don't have is a good Rule of X to take defense in…

PRIMUS Supers 1 2 3

I know we've kicked this around before, but this time, I hope we can get some real discussion going. In her PRIMUS Sourcebook for the fourth edition, Shelley mentions the possibility of PRIMUS-employed superhero teams, either in addition to or instead of the PRIME Team. This would be suitable in campaigns where PRIMUS has a very positive relationship with superheroes and there are a large number of paranormal threats. The concept, as proposed by the Golden Avenger, would have a team composed of no more than 10 heroes at each base. An intelligence agent with training as a superhero liaison officer would serve as team leader. They would be based at the PRIMUS base a…

Ok I just want some feedback from my fellow gamers on this idea. Do you think it would be a fun campaign to play in. One other note, all of my campaign worlds feature both some Marvel and D.C. heroes. Campaign History January, 1991 after a couple of weeks of conflict in Desert Storm, Sadam Hussein launches nuclear armed war heads at key cities around the world. Hearing about the impending strike several of the world's heroes enter voulentary suspended animation at various locations throughout the world, hopin to help rebuild once awakened. The United States and Russia retaliate with nuclear strike of their own, What follows is the greatest destruction in the hi…

I am a huge fan of Aberrant by White Wolf Game Studio (though not of the d20 crap they recently released, using the Aberrant setting), and I think it's probably the single best cosmic-powered supers game on the market. I own all the sourcebooks and modules, and still play the game on a fairly dependable basis. However, now I'm starting to really get into HERO 5th and the entire 5th edition Champions line. While the Storyteller version of Aberrant will always hold place of pride in my heart, I've been giving serious thought to converting the thing over to HERO 5th. Granted, point totals for average PCs would be obscenely high, and NPCs like Divis Mal would eat guys…

In the Dark Champions forum, KA posted: I really liked this, and I think it's good food for thought - and clarity - to produce more of this, even if inevitable we will disagree on some items. Dark - Heroes are brooding, morose, uncertain, self-aggrandizing, or simillarly tainted in their motives; anti-heroes are the norm Gray - Heroes may have conflicted motives but generally have an inner nobility that's most often unchallenged and openly expressed Dark - Body count is high; that's either callously considered, or considered with great grief. Gary - Body count exists, people die, but it's restrained and a matter of scrutiny when it o…

I just ordered Conquerors, Killers and Crooks from Warehouse 23, and, thanks to choosing to have next-day air shipping, I'll be getting it on Tuesday. Now, I'm wanting to know if it were permissable for someone to tell me who the six master villains in the book are. I know Dr. Destroyer is undoubtably one; I take it Dark Serpah, Gravitar, and the others mentioned in Champions Universe are the six master villains? After all, we already have Mechanon's stats in Champions... --and how in the heck is Dr. Destroyer a bigger menace than the dimension-conquering chick? NB
