Pitchers and catchers start reporting today, so I figured this was as good a time as any for a new thread. So, how about those Asstros...?

Ok. Flat out I'm scared. I had pains in my upper right side last week and after an ultrasound they've linked it to gallstones and inflamed pancreas (also my kidney is showing decreased as well). They are talking surgery but for what I'm not sure - I want to talk to the doctor first. Anyone who's gone through any of this - what am I looking at honestly? I feel like I'm about to have a full on break down.

One of my Christmas presents to myself was to use Amazon points for an Instant Pot pressure cooker. Only actually opened it last week...not like I didn't know what it was, right? It was in the factory box. But I wasn't ready to use it. Yes, well, 6 playoff games this weekend. If that doesn't spell pulled meat sandwiches of some flavor to you...well, ok, maybe you're a vegetarian. We won't hold that against you. So got it set up, cleaned out the pot, running through a first test run right now. Pork shoulder was broken down into chunks and rubbed on Monday; the big shoulder bone isolated to one chunk so that'll be easy to pull at the end. Get…

I have cancer. Keep breathing, I will almost certainly be ok eventually. I want to talk to you all about what kind of cancer I have, and how some of you might get it, or might have it. I will also tell you how I am and how I expect to be in the future. I don’t smoke. I don’t drink to anything like excess - I had four drinks one birthday and that was frankly one too many for me. I’m not overweight. I exercise, I lift weights. I’m 47 and I can bench press my body weight, run two miles in about 20 minutes (tortoise slow for a real runner, plenty damn fast for my age cohort) and knock out ten pull ups without breaking a sweat. A few years ago we stopped eating …

I have no real intention of celebrating, because it's still not time for that. In about 30 hours (my TZ) we'll close the book on it. It doesn't give me feelings of elation, but those of relief. I've got dinner set up...chicken parm from scratch, prepped this afternoon and ready to go into the oven tomorrow. Butternut squash was roasted Tuesday; I'll puree it with a fair bit of almond milk...it takes quite a bit to thin it down...and just heat that with salt, pumpkin pie spice or garam masala, and a dollop of liquid stevia. Yummm.... And I got a Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA to go with it. There's others I'd rather have, as this is (for me) a c…

How would you describe yourself as a fantasy RPG character? I, myself, am very much a warlock, someone whose hunger for knowledge is so voracious that it might have lead me down some bad places once or twice. For a race, probably a drow or tiefling, someone who is given the stink eye at first glance, but not nearly as bad as they think. What about the rest of you?

The the NHL announging the full start to the season, realignment putting all the Canadian teams into one big, happy division, and the groundwork being laid for hockey in Seattle, The abbreviated 2021 season loks like it has a bunch of intriguing things that will be going on. Not to mention that hockey will still be played at other levels, in other countries, by other teams. Add all that up, and you have a rather difficult shortened schedule. I wonder if the new emercency alignment will stick. Right now, Canada is limiting and quarantining visitors from across the border, so the teams in the US can't play in Canada yet. In response to this, the league set up a…

Okay, so a couple of days ago, on the recommendation of several acquaintances and one of my brothers, I installed an so called AdClean Play. I am completely perplexed: it works _beautifully_, I mean it is unobtrusive, sits in the background, and can be toggled on and off as desired. There are no ads on websites; there are no ads on YouTube; there are no ads when one of the kids is playing games on the phone. So whats the problem? There isn't one. Thats the problem: there is no problem, no annoyance, no complications, no work arounds- And it was free. There ya go. Thats why I am a bit concerned. TANSTAAFL and…

Yahoo News freaked me out a bit this morning, re-publishing Aretha Franklin’s obituary. it freaked me out a bit because I clearly remember that Clint Eastwood died shortly after finishing The Mule. I recall the news reports, the obits, a brief blurb on NPR about the funeral. I don’t know what to think about it, aside from the fact that I was clearly mistaken as far as what we call objective reality is concerned. do any of you remember a woman briefly playing for the Toronto Bluejays back in the ‘80s? For like half a season? Newsweek wrote an article about her? She chewed tobacco somewhat messily, cursed a bit during interviews, and frankly wasn’t a ve…

A thread for what you're giving this yuletide, the holiday season of a brutal, desolate year, a time when gifts may mean more than usual. Things on my outgoing list so far: The family gets a new rice cooker. The old one ... 20 years old, I think ... has become flaky and unreliable. Wife asked for a lamp to be rewired. I have that lined up, paying some friends of my daughter's who (1) do that sort of thing as a sideline and (2) aren't doing well this holiday season. She also asked for a new shade for it, but that will be a joint outing once we can go to a decent shop and select it together. Gift certificates from various local non-chain res…

Allston introduced us to the idea of bluebooking. Things in a game they gm and player may want to do but for one reason or another not want to run "in game" due to time or embarrassment. Since it's valid for all genres - picture or whatever of what you might bluebook. My first choice. Franklin spending time with Uncle Ben at the Malt Shop. Art by John Byrne. We know how much the Richards fily (and Johnny) mean to Ben Grimm and to me this would be perfect to bluebook. Is he picking Franklin up from school? What are they talking about? What is Reed and Sue doing?

When times are low, I seem to come back to these boards I continue my heroic fight against depression and anxiety (for those who don't understand, it means I know someday I will loose to it, but that day is not today.) I am almost divorced (I initiated it, it is sad, but unfortunately I could no longer put her wellbeing ahead of my own, that is why I suffer from depression in no small part) To combat the loneliness, the depression, etc...I have started doing game supplement stuff. Currently working on my Star Knight idea. After that planning on the first piece of the Fox's Armory (some of you might remember my Ultimate Utility Belt th…
