Hi all Has anyone done anything interesting with recoil ? I am starting a new campaign and was going to use the rule out of DC increasing the STR Min by 2 for every shot fired. Then a player threw me a curve (as usual). He wants to duel wield 50 cal pistols and with that rule he can get 4 or more shots off with both guns before taking any real heavy recoil penalty. That simply breaks my reality check meter. Any ideas ? Thanks Mark

this is a post from Star hero, I am posting it twice as I would also like to see what people think through the different prisim of a modern day campeign instead of a Sci-Fi game Character for my upcoming Flash Gordon inspired game I am still working on the disads, he needs 20 points more, hunteds are not allowed Backstory is that he was a Mechanic in the USMC who opened his own Garage after the First Gulf War. This is submitted for a bit of help. I’ve been breaking my brain trying to figure out how to do this character for a campaign. I’m trying to make a villain who’s power is that he explodes. Yes, HE explodes for 12D6 of damage. He’s got a decent amount of PD/ED but takes 1.5 stun from water based attacks. When he only has 1/3 of his body left he has 3 phases before he goes boom. Right now his stun is 75/body 30. Any suggestions on how to create this? Thanks for the assist you all rock!

John Harrison, a middle-aged, slightly portly man, is the team's liaison from the federal government. He's a nice guy, and a klutz. Additionally, he has trouble with technology more advance than 1970. Since the Vice President's daughter is living in the city with her grandparents (her parents want to keep her out of the spotlight), and attending high school here, the Department of Homeland Security, the agency the Secret Service is part of, send its own liaison to the team. She's Kate Thompson, a pretty African-American woman. Before coming to the DHS, Kate spent eight years with the CIA as a black bag job expert. What I hope we can come up with are thei…

For the DC campaign I am slowly planning I decided I want to use Hero Action points. On the train ride home tonight I had a rather evil thought. Since the campaign world is one filled with corruption and bribery with few people who have power also having intregrity, why should the GM be immune? Has anyone tried the practice of bribing the GM for more HAP? I'm not including money or gifts. That's taking things way too far. (So no, buying the GM pizza won't get you anything more than a thanks.) I'm thinking of smaller things like brushing my cat Lena for one HAP. Brushing my cat Sarge for 2 (he doesn't like it as much plus he's bigger). And other small things at …

Military medals 1 2

So from what I've been reading, bronze and silver stars are pretty coveted medals -- not everyone who does something brave gets a bronze star, for instance. What kind of acts would qualify? Basically, I'm playing a character who has military experience in Afghanistan and Iraq, and I'm wanting a medal tally. I'm just not wanting to give her medals she doesn't deserve! So my question is: what kind of acts are required for these medals? And is there a list of recipients and the acts for which they were awarded them? I know this exists for the Medal of Honor, but my google-fu seems to be weak for finding similar things for the lesser medals. Thanks in advance!

I was watching an episode of Batman the animated series, The one that introduces Man-Bat. Anyways old Bats pulls a aersol can and sprays it in the air in the room, then with (assumed) IR goggles he is able to see footprints (that lead him to a clue) What is it, and how would you write it up?

In your Dark Champions campaign, do you use an established city for your setting or create the city from the ground up? I'm including Hudson City in the list of established cities because it has its own books.

Hey, so I stumbled across Richard K. Morgan a couple of days ago. I've read Market Forces, am wrapping up Thirteen, and have Altered Carbon queued up next. This stuff is pretty good cyberpunk / cybernoir / dystopia / whatever you want to call it. Anyone else find this material to be useful as inspiration for their games? If nothing else its got me itchin to cycle back to MetaCyber and finish it.

Joker and Harley blew Arkham Asylum two days before it happened. Once they realized that Barbara Gordon was Batgirl, they raided her place. They crippled her and discovered, in her computer, while Harley was looking for internet porn, that Bruce Wayne had supplied her equipment. Wayne Manor was next. At the end, Alfred was dead, shot through the heart. Bruce and the Joker fell over 100 feet to their deaths on sub-level 6, and, thanks to Dick wielding one of Mr. Freeze's weapons, Harley was, literally, on ice. Dick made sure that there was nothing in the computer linking him to Robin, then called the police. Within minutes, the police, and press, swarmed Way…

The roleplaying group goes on a mission with them, and kills the only enemy informant they had access to. Long story short: My group (I'm GMing this Mutant-based DC game) got picked up by an underground mutant organization after being pretty much screwed over by a government-duping corporation. Either way, The Saints (the underground group) were going after this guy David Wash in a "move up the food chain" type operation to get at the real bad guys. There was a meeting to be had at an illegal blood match for an equally illegal mutant fight-ring, and the plan was to take out David Wash's bodyguards and take him alive for questioning. One of my playe…

A shadowy figure scaled the north wall of a mansion in suburban Gotham City. Carefully, he stood on the front porch roof and walked to the nearest window. Using a device from his belt, he bypassed the alarm, then, with a thin knife blade, unlocked the window and entered. As he crept through the darkened room, a fist caught him in the gut. "I caught intruder," rumbled a large man. "Boss will be happy." "While he'll be happy, I won't," the intruder mumbled in a feminine tone. "Bad girl be quiet," the huge man said before hitting her again. This time, she fell to the floor and didn't move. He scooped her up and took her into the basement. "Found fe…

A TARDIS, disguised as an English telephone booth, is in the superhero team base's lobby, or somewhere similar. The Time Lord is Alistanathcalebiviteth of the Arcalian College. His companions call him 'Stan'. A 4E Time Lord package deal suitable for him can be found at http://www.ianm.eclipse.co.uk/ftp/other/HEROpackage.txt. One companion is Cathy Hunt, a PanAm flight attendant from the mid 1960s who has a nursing license. (She graduated from a two-year hospital school before becoming a flight attendant.) Her usual garb in the TARDIS is a white blouse, a navy blue skirt, and comfortable shoes. I'm looking for suggestions for up to three other companions…

Although this is in the Dark Champions forum, it could go in the main Champions forum. The campaign city has two hawkmistresses. The first is Ruth Little Deer, D.V.M., the vet at the city's aviary. She's also one of the few of the state's licensed falconers that are female. She has an empathic bond with most raptors and a telepathic bond with Iris, the red-tail hawk she raised from a baby. The second, Judy Wells, is the sexton of an area synagogue. A falcon's nest is on the 20 x 20 foot square top of the synagogue's tower. Somehow, Judy managed to befriend Ike and Tina, the two peregrine falcons that live there. When the nest, now a nest box, is appr…

Kate Harper, an African-American woman with braided, shoulder-length black hair, works for the Department of Homeland Security and is one of several agency representatives assigned to the team the PCs are in. As far as skills go, she is a skilled actress (15-), seductress (15-), and cat burglar (17-) and can handle herself in combat if she has to. Kate often goes with the team on missions. She'll stay with them if she thinks her skills can help. Otherwise, she'll stay with the police officials that are in command. I'm hoping to get help from my learned colleagues on these boards in developing her background.

Some of the people in my current L5R gaming group have expressed an interest in a Champions/Dark Champions game, and if we decide to do that, I plan on doing a hybrid (possibly DC:TAS) of the two. I have two major canidates for the location: Chicago and Hudson City. I also have considered other places: Miami, Florida and it's surrounding area (specifically my old hometown of Hialeah), Las Vegas, Tokyo, Prauge and London. I already have an idea for how the group gets together, by joining an underground vigilante group. I also have a few homebrew enemies/organizations in mind (and may also use at least one from the standard Champions universe). Now, as I've n…

while writing up the actual implants for the new version of the Bionic Woman would be a snap for this group, I have a more important question: what role would such a character play in a Dark Champions campaign. Let's assume she has a somewhat better thought-out motivation for doing something than "If I don't do what they say, I'm dead, and if I do do what they say I'm probably still dead." Perhaps the experimenters could simply say "All right, we've given you all this stuff but we're not exactly sure what all it does or how it will affect your daily life. Our bad. So you go on with your life, and we'll keep an eye on you to see what happens and step in if anything go…

Although the idea comes from the late 1980s DC RPG, the idea still has potential. The only problems to overcome are Batman's cold and demanding persona. To me, the only way to deal with this is to remove Batman from the equation, either by killing him, or by maiming him so completely that he can't move at all. Either way, Bruce's secret is revealed to the public. My version would be set in the universe created by the first four Warner Brothers movies, minus, of course, the silly parts. It starts one year after Batman and Robin. Since Dick (Robin) has gone to New York City, and is fighting crime there as Nightwing, Barbara (Batgirl) is Bruce's sidekick. She's als…

It's public knowledge that the President suffers from relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis, or some other chronic medical condition. He's been seen leaning on a cane and, once, in a wheel chair. Would the Secret Service make any special arrangements for his illness?

It started as a thought experiment. An alternate US timeline with a strong national government with integrity but a weak state/city government full of corruption. I put the idea to my gaming group for a review and there was interest in it being a setting for a DC campaign. I haven't GMed in a long time and never in a Hero system. I may wind up starting such a campaign. What should I do to prepare for it? What sort of things do I need set up? Thanks!

Moments after an unconscious, or dead, Batman was unmasked, Keiko, his engineer, and Alfred, his butler, heard a cyclic wheezing, groaning noise from their left. Turning, they saw an old-style telephone booth with a blinking light on top of it appear. "My word," Alfred said. "Yeah," Keiko, who had been flipping switches on the communications board, said. "What is that thing?" "I don't know," Alfred replied. The door opened and a tall, dark-haired man in a three piece suit walked out. With him were three women. The first wore black leathers. The second wore a white nurse's uniform and cap. The third wore the kind of uniform flight attendants wore …

I'm considering bringing a number of elements from Frank Miller's Sin City into Gotham City and I wonder if it'll be a good fit. These elements include the Roark family, Kadie's Club Pecos, and the East Side being an Old Town analogue.
