I am preparing to run an espionage campaign. I want it to be cinematic. I am thinking along the lines of The Bourne Identity and MI-5. Maybe as far as Alias. As much as I love Bond movies, I feel many of them cross the line of 'believability'. I was originally thinking 100 base points and 50 points from Disadvantages. After trying to stat up some characters this weekend, I am thinking I need to go 150 base and 50 Disadvantages. Has anyone else run this sort of game, what point level did you use and what point level would you suggest?

Review of Predators up at RPG.Net In Brief: Style: 3 (about average for this type of book) Substance: 4 (lots of NPC goodness) Eighty-Five villains, thugs, assassins, thieves and crimelords for a modern action game. Especially useful for those using Hero Games' Hudson City Setting, but easily useable in any modern campaign.

Is there a document somewhere that tells me what district or map segment buildings mentioned in the HC book are located in? For example, there is a large list of newspapers but the descriptions of the papers don't say where they are located. Right now I'm specifically looking for the location of the Hudson City Mirror. Perhaps they aren't even placed on a map.

Its been mulling around in my head for quite some time now, but I'm finally getting around to compiling a group of players for my new game. It takes place in the same universe as the World of Dark Champions, although I believe werewolves will be more prominently featured, since the game's beginning sessions will take place in the hinterlands of New Mexico. If anyone in my group decides to play a WoD-based PC, I'm going to be using the conversion rules created by Dr. Robert Harrison and playtested by the late, great RJM Hughes, Andy Ferguson (aka Larry Black), and myself. Since the conversion is points-heavy, I'm allowing my players around 250 points plus 100 in…

Something I've thought might make a cool Con game (no pun intended) or one-off is to do a one-shot (or even one sitting) game where the characters are doing a heist. These can be rewarding gameplay experiences, and certainly seem inspiring enough given movies like Ocean's 11 (and 12), Entrapment, the Score, etc. So my question is this: what essential tropes would you include, what kind of player character backgrounds would you include, what might be a suitable prize for such a heist, and what kinds of hoops should they have to jump through to pull the thing off? I can already imagine things like what skills you'd need, but these other questions have to do more …

I'd like to solicit some more advice from the Dark Champions gurus out there. In my hero-level near-future Dark Champions game, nearly everyone uses firearms, although there are still times when either one of the characters or a bad guy moves in for good ol' hand-to-hand combat. The problem arises when the characters (or villains) elect to shoot at someone who is in the midst of a HTH melee. What happens when the attacker with the firearm (or missile weapon) misses, and how often might an unintended target be struck? Putting aside for the moment the "Combat Shooting" Talent (DC, page 90), let's look at what the book says happens. Page 179 of Dark Champion…

Hey guys, Im going to use this thread to post stuff from my current campaign which uses old old loved hero system in a combined setting of Conspiracy X/Delta Green and Dark Matter. I will be posting various things from the campaign like characters, items, adventure write ups, conspiracy ideas etc. Feel free to ask for any material you think might be useful for your own campaigns and I will see what I can do. In my Victorian Hero game, my players are going to be going the gothic monster-hunter route. One of them is a weaponsmith/marksman, and we decided to give him the ability to improve firearms as a power, but I don't know quite how to get what I want. How do I create the following power: +1 DC, +1 OCV, +1 vs. penalties, requires an existing firearm to modify. He may also have the ability to make rounds armor piercing, add range, or do a variety of other things (I'm open to suggestions here) to weapons, so please suggest ideas and builds as appropriate. Thanks!

It seemed to work well for Alhazard in thread, and I've seen it work in RPG.net, so why not here? We're at least as creative as those guys! The concepts: The continental United States has seen large chunks decimated thanks to an extra dimensional attack on America, the country is destroyed, and most of the major super heroes, and some of the villains (the Dooms, Apocalypses, Juggernauts etc who are really pissed off), and huge chunks of the armed forces of the world have disappeared. (Presumably, they went into the other dimension and are raising heck.) This leaves a bunch of minor super heroes, villains, Police officers, etc, stuck in a ruined major city which h…

Should I buy it? How good is the forensics chapter? Really, that's the main thing I'd use from the book, so is it good enough to warrant 36 CAN$ or not? I'd still end up reading it cover-to-cover... Laz

The World: Much like our world, December 28th 2004. The streets of Hudson City, arguably the greatest city on the face of the Earth, possibly the most dangerous as well. Corruption, drugs, crime and vice rule the streets. Violence is the law of the land and the ruthless hold sway, but no more. You will make a difference. You have the power. Either threw dedication, training and an unknown “Gift†you have been handed the power to take back the streets, to protect (or avenge) the innocent and punish the guilty. The authorities might call you Vigilante, perhaps even serial killer, but you know what you are. You are the savior of a new century, a light in the darkness. Thi…

Hey, write this up as a Dark Champions gadget... http://www.wired.com/news/technology/autotech/0,72886-0.html It's an anti-theft device that fills an area (an office, a car, a truck) with fog and strobe light so that a thief can't see what he's doing. Watch the video and let's have a writeup of this gadget in HERO terms!

Hi All, It occurred to me that this is probably the better place to ask these questions (been out of champions for a long time so im quite rusty ) First off a simple yes he divides by 5 or no he pays full cost, one. If a character has the Summon power set to "summon vehicles" does he get to pay the cost as if he's using the perk, i.e. divide total cost of the vehicle cost by 5. Or does he have to pay the full cost of building it? I did start to ask Steve about naked advantages, but i thought its probably better if i just ask in a general forum. (thanks for the fast answer by way Steve) Im still having some trouble getting my head around Naked a…

This question came up in my "They Also Serve" mini-campaign. the PC's are the support personell for a hero, and they have access to pretty much any firearm that's legal for a civilian to own. What would be the most appropriate thing for them to have, when they have to reconfigure themselves as an extraction team? One character is ex-special forces, so he is fairly knowledgeable about guns. In terms of game mechanics, I'm guessing some form of semi-automatic shotgun (I thought Kalashikov was marketing one of those); the stun multiplier will ensure that the damage will actually be able to get through all but the most resistant bricks. But in terms of style, I was…

My original notes on my game can be found here. After a brief hiatus while someone else ran their game, we're back for season two. At least, that was what I joked when I paused the game was that season 1 was over, if they ratings were good enough there would be a season 2. Newly Named NPCs was something I started doing when a nameless thug does something memorable thanks to a good roll or the RP. If the thug survives, then they'll be coming back, if only for comic relief in one case. Season 1 Synopsis is as follows: 1. Holiday in Haiti The group is sent to Haiti to rescue a local Voudoun who had agreed to assist the Helsing Insitute in resea…

Low-tech solutions: the army (assume a medieval setting, with no magic) carries around sharpened stakes with them, and other varied implements; whereever they set up camp, they can analyze the terrain (whatever that may be) and devise a plan for using what they have, then rapidly unpack and assemble their components to establish a defensive perimeter. This is their base, until it's time to pack up and be on the march again, but they're not tied to any particular area and if you utterly annihilate the physical landmass in an area where they've been, they won't particularly care; it doesn't prevent them from settling down in the area directly adjacent. Does the di…

Shadowcat is my favorite X-Men character. I'm working on a version of her that will be part of Batman's team. The basics are simple. Shadowcat (real name Katherine "Kitty" Pryde) is an 18 year old girl with advanced training in aikido, karate, krav maga, ninjitsu, and gymnastics who can become phase, or become desolid, at will. Her preferred costume is a black ninja nightsuit. Across the back she carries a ninjato, or ninja sword. In various places on her costume, she carries weapons and equipment, including those provided by Batman. Her preferred tactic is to attack from surprise using both her stealth and phasing abilities.
