After watching plenty of movies like Ocean's 11, and CONfidence, and The Italian Job (both versions), I wonder - has anyone here ever run a Con Artist HERO game? Full of death defying car chases, subtle social role-playing, hacking, breaking and entering, baiting and switching, and no guns. It seems like the genre's ripe for great characters - the kind-souled thief, etc. Anybody done this?

I was very disappointed to have missed the Super Agents bandwagon the first time around. I'd had to quit gaming just a few months before Aaron's book came out, and I didn't come back until well after 4th Edition was out. I'd actually been looking forward to playing a PC agent for a high-tech organization... and now that genre seems to have all but vanished. Is there any chance for a 5th Edition redux of this book? (Would there even be enough of a demand for it? Could it perhaps be considered a subgenre of Dark Champions?)

I just watched SHAOLIN SOCCER. Now I know what style the woman on page 76 uses. If you can -- see this film. You might hurt yourself laughing, but it is worth every second.

Wow. Ok. I'm having trouble creating a ki system here. I do not have Ninja HERO yet and I suppose it would help me as it actually contains a character based on Son Goku. I've been trying to figure out a way to have a max ki pool equal to one's experience pts, that way one's power level would be equal to their level of experience. The characters will start out as normal people, so their exp. will be low to start. But I cannot find the right system to create ki that is used up, and must be recharged via a "power up" power. Not only that, but I'm having difficulty creating the kamehameha itself, nevermind as part of Muten Roshi-sama's martial art style, Kame-sennin style. …

Matrix Hero 1 2

Okay. I gotta ask. With the new Matrix movies coming out I am wondering if anyone is going to be doing a Matrix Hero? If you are or plan to do a Matrix Hero how are you going to do it? In the "real world" (ie not the Matrix) I would say make the characters up as 150 point characters with NCM or, if you assume that things "loaded into you" stay with you than you could base it on more points, but I have no idea how many you would need. You could run that part of the campaign as your basic sci-fi, post apocolypse campaign. The Matrix would be easy to run since it is basically extra dimensional movement where the characters are basically built as 350-400 point char…

I don't know what happened to the Vampire:tM to Hero Conversion thread. But I wanted to thank the two individuals who had previously done conversions. They are a very good source. I am working on my own conversion, drawing upon what I like out of each separate conversion, and I had a question on undead toughness. Each had 50% Damage Reduction only vs stun one choose to add, Damage Resistance up to half pd/ed the other used, Does Not Bleed from the automaton rules Why not just use straight 50% Damage Reduction; not vs aggravted damage?? In most novels and material, vampires are vulnerable to all weaponry but much less so then a mortal. I thi…

How would you best simulate this effect? I was thinking of using either a Susceptibility (to sight of female nudity) or a Physical Limitation. Anyone out there have any thoughts on this matter?

This is a two fold tread. First and foremost is that it is to serve as a defensive barrier to protect the boards against our newest threat, Pinky! The other reason is that I am actually looking for ideas for establishing a more dramatic way of handing 'hacking' in a hero game. Kind of like the matrix in Shadowrun but less complex. Basically I want something other than 'security systems' and 'computer programming'. Ideas? Oh, have some spare acorns but don't eat them. there poisoned

Is a Western Hero genre book planned?

I know it has been spoken about a FREd version of Western Hero for 2009 , But I'd like to use it sooner. So I may ask a few questions, that some may answer with the old WH, that I don't own, since I'm a 5th Ed newcomer. So there they are : 1. The duels Duels are an important part of the Western feeling (at least for us, Sergio Leone & Clint Eastwood fed europeans). How can you use that feeling ? Is there rules for this, rather than just a fast draw skill ? I was wondering of a ECV contest, with a fast draw malus for the looser. What do you think ? May holding action help to create the "Sergio Leone " feeling ? 2. Mortality Li…

Curious, in case someone has made a skill like this or sees a problem with it's design. Ninja Casual Deflection: +5 with DCV (25 Active Points); OAF (Focus : Primary Ninja Weapon; -1) Real: 12 This basically would reflect those combat scenes where a Ninja casually deflects away incoming attacks (such as ninja stars, needle projectiles) with his weapon, hardly drawing his attention. The effect is that when a hit roll is above your natural DCV but below your DCV with this skill, you casually knock away the attack. I think it differs enough from normal Missle Deflection to be OK. If anything, I might add on 'vs Ranged Only' (though I think it could have a si…

Just curious, figured this would be as good a spot as any, but any idea why there is no Martial Arts main level board? Granted, it only has the UMA, not a "xyz-Hero" book yet, but it would seem to draw together Martial Arts/MA campaign stuff if it had its own board...heck even FH has a board without a product yet ^^

I was thinking last night about some odd little powers and rules for a high-powered Anime Martial Art/Spy adventure. The BIG Guys: for those Super Sized thugs who smile as the little guy hits them but still fall to skilled or similarly sized foes. +5 PD not vs opponents with 15+ STR +5 PD not vs opponents with 20+ STR +5 PD not vs opponents with 25+ STR 9 points (-1, -1/2, and -1/4 respectively) now your giant sumo wrestler can shrug off attacks by the Str 10 kung fu fighter even though most players will have damage levels near the campaign maximum, and your average heroes will have a tough time with him but your Strong Guy type can go toe to toe wit…

I just finished watching the 1931 version of "Frankenstein" with Boris Karloff. The Monster isn't the powerhouse of popular perception. He's stronger than the scientists and villiagers he encounters; they usually lose a one-on-one confrontation. But he's not so strong that Frankenstein and two companions (an elderly medical instructor and a hunchbacked assistant) aren't able to overpower him and tie him up, more than once. Now, I realize that by the second movie, "Bride of Frankenstein," the Monster is tearing out of chains and knocking down heavy wooden doors. But even then a group of irate villagers is able to overpower him and drag him off to jail (that's how he …

I was watching the old idiot box (ie, TV) the other day and a commercial came on for those bionacle toys....the robots, masks, matanui, a bio of their world, I'm sure you've seen them.....and got to thinking campaign idea.... PC's are IA robots built by alien race (human?) and set to work terra-forming a world...in the process, a silicone-based life form is disturbed that respons to this invasion by taking over hosts to fight (the masks). no off-world aid (communication cut, forgotten about, etc...), limited resourses (most of world is still wild, just a few major urban centers and outposts).... hostile alien animals, villianious(?) alien mind set on reve…

While anticipating the arrival of the newly remastered DVD of Metropolis, I started wondering about the feasability of running HERO like a silent movie. The players are not allowed to speak; they instead write on placards to describe major or key actions, and otherwise must mime their intentions. This would fit any genre, if executed in the spirit of the medium.

I'm currently trying to find a store (or someone) where I can purchase Justice, Inc., the 3rd edition Hero supplement for the pulp genre. Does anyone know of an online store (or a brick & mortar store) where they have an old copy? Does anyone have a copy they would like to sell me? (If you have a copy to sell, just send me a private message here on the boards.) Your suggestions/recommendations are welcome. Thanks very much.

I really like the background for the Crimson Skies game (PC flight game) and was wondering how much world detail was included in the FASA books, I know it was more of a mini's game like Battle tech but Battle tech included quite a bit of background (and eventually spawned an RPG Mechwarrior). Basically what I am wondering is, whether the FASA products include lots of background, or if it was mostly just rules and stats. I was considering hunting some down if it includes good background stuff.

On the old Hero Boards, there was an amazing thread about guns and ballistics. Three or four of you out there seemed to have some serious knowledge on the topic, and this thread was well discussed, evenly debated, avoiding rancor and egos in a very mature way. It contained folks ideas about translating weapons accurately to Hero... but the majority was about force and mass and velocity, and how certain ammunition differentiated itself from others. 9mm vs. .45 ACP... what are the benefits of each, the downsides... 5.56 vs. 7.62... AP vs ball ammunition... sub-sonic effects, tranference of force, etc. Is that thread archived anywhere I could access? Are any o…

Well what did Herodom think of SCI FI new show. For the most part I liked it. I think Tremors the series has potential for a fun hour long time waster...it may not be Babylon 5, but it could be fun to watch each week. So, does anyone have Character sheets done for Burt Gummer and the GRaboids yet??? I plan on working Tremors in on my Sliders game. it could be a great crossover....

For me, the definition of Horror as a genre necessarily includes a relative helplessness on the part of the intended victim(s). Think about Janet Leigh in the shower in "Psycho." Okay, that's enough. You could also think about virtually every character in an HP Lovecraft story. So, how do you go about this in a HERO campaign? How do you run a game wherein the monsters are far and away more powerful than the PCs? Maybe I just play too much Champions.

This is a continuation of a thread that was on the Hero System page. In a nutshell, we were discussing converting Pro Wrestlers to HERO. Why? Why not. The latest question for Herodom is Ring Sizes and Movement based martial arts. A standard WWE ring is roughly 3 hexes by 3 hexes. Is this sufficient to reflect what happens accurately and does it leave enough room for acceleration? Spin Off Thought: velocity based martial arts manuevers and top room moves. How much Leap can be added for a Shooting Star Press or Frog Splash, for example? Thoughts?
