What are some of the more exotic locations from your various (Champions) campaigns? I'm not talking about which real-world foreign cities and/or nations you've used; I'm talking about places most mundane people won't even necessarily know about or at least not be able to visit. What are the counterparts to Latveria, Themyscira, and Atlantis in your games? To help get this started, here are some of the ones I've used. CK: Heinlein Station, at Luna's South Pole AK: Luna, Earth's Moon CK: Port Olympus, on Mars AK: Mars AK: Jovian Space; Jupiter and its Moons AK: Cronian/Saturnian Space; Saturn and its Moons …

So if someone were to, say, set up a super basic campaign as a followup to Champions Begins, what kind of things do you think it should have? I'm thinking a neat base, a basic big city, a few useful NPCs, and a string of loosely connected adventures leading up to a finale. The PCs would be what players want to make, and the book could include super basic ideas on building characters. I'd like to see the Goodman tips brought back, too, stuff we vets all know but new players would find useful. They could even carry over Champions Begins characters if they want. The adventures maybe we could update and reuse some from the old Adventurer's Club magazines, for …

Hey all, my first post. I could use some help in creating a couple of NPCs connected to my 5th ed teen hero. One NPC is a former Green Beret with a medical discharge for a back injury. He's fit, but can't do normal Green Beret stuff. He's not a DNPC, but I want to have an idea for him as he is often the man my PC turns to for man type advice. The other is a DNPC, the PC's girlfriend. She is 16, like him, and she is mute. I haven't played HERO/Champions for a long time, and could use some ideas so the NPCs aren't run of the mill. Everything will have to be approved by the DM, and I tend to write fiction around my characters. Any ideas for skills, ads, disads? I…

Reading the rules on dependence... If a character takes 3d6 damage from a dependence every hour, and that damage starts as STUN, wouldn't the character be able to mitigate all that damage using REC in between? For example, a character with 50 STUN and 10 REC takes 12 points from their dependence. Assuming the damage is per-interval, wouldn't a character simply recover those 12 points like 2 minutes after they took it initially? In which case, is this a complication with no actual impact?

So I am making an Angelic character with an OAF Sword. I was going to have it such that when the sword was knocked from his hand, only someone not evil could pick it up. But I am wondering if this goes against the Accessible part of the Focus. Maybe another question would be: How would you build Mjolnir so that only Thor or "only the 'worth'" (like Captain America in Endgame) can pick it up? Thanks.

For those who've read the rather keen Primus sourcebook from back in the day, you'd know of the rather terrible origins of the Cyberline treatment and the process that creates the Silver and Golden Avengers. That was well over 20 years ago, however, and the world has moved on. Assuming that the program was exposed and terminated, what would you use to replace it? Would Primus agents go 'cold turkey' and then turn into regular agents? Would Silver Avengers vanish? What replaces them? A new Super Soldier treatment? Androids? Cybernetic upgrades? Everybody wears power armor? Or does the entire organization go belly up from the release of the information and Until just ste…

I had an idea spring into my brain... Just imagine a Drill Instructor during World War 2, that liked to push boots to their breaking points... And then, along came a boot that seemed to have no limits... No matter what the DI asked him to do, he did it, without fuss and with aplomb to spare... What would a character need to make it through boot camp with a perfect score in everything...? His Strength is already set at 60, with 1/2 End cost, because of the incident with the Tank... The Drill Instructor, growing more frustrated with his failed attempts to break him, ordered the character to pick up a tank... And he promptly did... Which attracted attention in a BIG …

I ask, because I am making some NPC for my FH and I am adapting power sets from Killer Shrike. A number of the powers have Lingering with usually 1 extra turn (+1/2). Now the description in my HD (uses 5th ed.) says it is a power that can be used, then set aside while you do something else, but can be reused again anytime within the timeframe. Example Retributive Gaze 3d6 Ego Blast, Lingering End 4 Now I adding a Limitations SE (cause LTE loss equal to AP/10 to activate the power) Questions: Does this person pay the regular End cost every time they use the power thereafter? Can this person set aside use of the gaze, use a…

Open up a dimensional gate under the sea that leads to a total water world and let the water flood in until everything but the mountains is drowned. Erase the memories of every human being who isn't under my protection Trigger an electromagnetic pulse that will fry every civilian computer and power grid on the planet Start a chain reaction that causes every volcano in the Ring of Fire to erupt, triggering a new Ice Age Envelope the Earth in a shrink field that causes all humans to reduce in size. Unite all of humanity into a single harmonious hive mind Travel back in time and prevent the origins of every superhero. Expose all of humanity…

In "The Great Supervillain Contest", one of the villains is Shadow Queen. Selfish but also helpful as the bio goes. I GM her more towards good and getting whatever she wants. I'm looking for suggestions for an episode: For this episode, her powers are greatly increased. Shadow Queen hears news of how many orphans wait long periods of time to be adopted. This triggers something in her and she decides she's going to take all the orphans (probably from one particular orphanage) to a place where she will care for them. Listen to "Children of the Night" by Kate Covington. That's the music I'll play before the episode. What I'm stumped on: a)…

I am curious as to the various details you GMs put into your game. Do you: a) Give your episodes titles? b) Do you give origins to all your villains c) Are your important NPCs stated out? d) Do you go above and beyond the duty with special props for any of your games? e) anything else? For myself: a) Generally, yes, I give the episode a title, if only for my own purpose. Sometimes I tell the players beforehand, sometimes at the end, and sometimes not at all b) Most (not all) of my villains have an origin of some sort spelled out, if only if a line or two. c) A few times; only if there's a possibility of the NPC…

I'm working on an NPC that has little to virtually no need for sleep, and thus has a LOT of time on his hands... My intent is to build this with a set of 1 point familiarities at 8 or less, along with 4 skill levels that apply to all non-combat skills... This gives him a 12 or less roll with anything he puts 1 point into... With his point build, he has 18 points to use this way... So, which 18 non-combat skills would you pick, to give the impression he knows everything...?

Played a lot of Champions back in the day, using what I now know is the "3rd ed." My friends and I played a few years after the 4th edition came out, but we were basically a 3rd edition group. Strict adherence to any rules was not really an issue. We played for fun. If a dice role would break something, we looked away and rolled again. And we took turns being GM, but each had our own character who would, when we were GM, essentially tag along as an NPC. That said, we took our characters seriously and loved working within the rules to build and then, with experience, flesh out characters over time. Anyway, many years after I stopped playing but many years…

I've decided to introduce the Dissidents to my Champions campaign, set in San Francisco. The premise of my game world is that it was very similar to our own world until about 3 years ago when an event (called the Paranormal Flux) caused a number of people to get superpowers. A small number (say, a fraction of 1%) got full suites of powers, while significantly more (say, 5%) got minor powers (5 STR TK) or only one useful power (like, say, 30 STR or x-ray vision). So now the world is turning more and more into a comic book-style world, with megalomaniacal superhumans trying to carry off plots that are "sheer elegance in their simplicity" (which is often utter BS). …

A very defensible building with solid construction, and tiny windows. Perfect for a hero base, and not expensive, either. https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/living-in-masonic-temple?utm_medium=atlas-page&utm_source=facebook&fbclid=IwAR1fSSRJMcnG50SlYQ0c3yAMEJAq1V-gyIPg2fSxtrUSENgtFVdVEq4mqt8

This was just a random thought I had. What kind of special measures for dealing with waste disposal might need to exist in a world with superhumans? Do fans dig through the trash of the local superteam looking for souvenirs? Maybe there are people searching for things to sell? How much would an old mask go for? What might show up in a supervillain’s trash? Failed experimental weapon prototypes? Items of alien origin? What might Eurostar be putting in their trash? How about VIPER? Could alien microorganisms be getting released into the sewer system every time a team’s alien member uses the restroom? Could there be…

Hey guys, I am just starting to prepare a new superhero campaign and despite owning seemingly dozens of superhero games, none quite do what I want, so I am going to run 5th edition hero. I do have 6th but some of the stuff was a dealbreaker for me (specifically losing the connection between primary and figured characteristics which i love!) I am probably most comfortable with 5th edition, but I wanted to know what is easy to grab from 6th edition that you would recommend for a supers game? I am open to anything big or small which you think can be easily added to 5th, if its just more detail, or new powers, advantages, limitations, skills, etc. I know that the disadva…

So, I am an experianced RPG player but completely new to the Hero system and looking for some help. I have read the 6th ed. PDF and that's it. I was wondering how I would go about constructing the "super" team the Boys, by Garth Ennis. Do I just up their strength to make them stronger? Should I stick with just giving them a high PD to soak damage or will they need some kind of Resistance as well? And what would be considered high? Alternatively if anyone has already built Hughie, Butcher and the gang and can just point me where to find them so I can have a look It would also be very much appreciated.

I had a thread for this before, but it's long since archived and cannot be edited, so here is a new thread. I want to index all the corrections for 4th edition Champions/Hero characters. I am uploading the corrected character sheets to my web site here: http://mattcave.mypressonline.com/champions.html -- 402 - Mind Games p17, Mind Slayer's Multipower really only needs a 78 point reserve, not 80 points, as she only has two Ultra powers and the highest one is only 78 points. She could put her telekinetic Flight into her Elemental Control. She should have DF "Detects as a mutant" for 10 points. p20, Soulfire's Killing Strike s…

This is for you GMs to tell some of your mistakes made before or during a Champions game. 1) I've written up a clever episode where the heroes eventually run into some robots to fight. It shouldn't be easy but not too powerful that they'll lose. Yes, everything looks good... except I forgot to stat out the robots! 2) The game is going well, the heroes are beginning to get near to the mastermind's base and the players are really looking to stomp some goodness into the baddy except... the stat sheets for the minions AND the villain simply can't be found. "I had them a minute ago!" 3) The heroes encounter an impressive villain for the firs…

When I first introduced superhero RPGs to a friend who's coming with me to a local game convention in late July, they were Champions and ICONS. She easily picked up on the rules-light ICONS within a few minutes and Champions (5th or 6th) made her head spin from all the number crunching and variations of game mechanics. Later on, she took one of my comments to heart about how 5th and 6th Edition books often read more like textbooks versus an actual game book. She then asked me something along the lines of, "Well, when was the last time Champions was fun for you?" My answer was 3rd Edition. 🤔 Has anyone else experienced that awkward realization? I remember a few…
