I am trying to find a list of the Good and Bad groups from Champions. Planning on starting a game and hoping to have some references.

So, for the last several years I’ve had a stable RPG group. We play at my house and with a couple (out of stater’s who moved) on Google Talk, every other Saturday, or so (based on life). After many years of D&D, AD&D, 2ed AD&D, and literally dozens of other games (including Champions way back); I’m a big FASA guy from back in the early to late ‘90’s. I love how Earthdawn and Shadowrun are both in an altered history/future Earth. I loved how much of it’s mythology was based on possible science. Then, I got on a superhero kick lately, partially because my family and I decided to watch the entire Marvel movie series from the beginning of Phase 1 up to …

Howdy Herodom! I was working on a few things and got to thinking about bases. We see so many heroes and villains statted up, but rarely do we see the bases they use. Has anyone worked on things like the Batcave? The Fortress of Solitude? A Helicarrier? Xavier's School for the Gifted?

What is the best way for a character in Champions to build a portable closet. Basically a ring which projects a door on any surface and contains a small closet sized space to contain a costume and equipment. Non-magical character with a wizard contact who created it for them. Extra-Dimensional Movement built in a IIF and a really small Base built in a different dimension is one way, but that seems a lot of points for this. Alternatively a very limited Megascale Teleportation usable only on others and usable only on my equipment could be more economical It should cost something as the character uses armor and weapons and the ability to s…

Thought for the day: With END now costing 1 CP per 5 END, an END Drain much more powerful. Consider a typical 60-point Active Point limit in a superhero game. That gives you 6d6 END Drain, averaging 21 CPs, then halved because END is considered defensive in nature, so 11 CPs = 55 END! That's enough to put all of the 400 CP Champions into burning STUN for END immediately, and leaves both Ironclad and Sapphire at 5 END. The classic 'enervator gun' got a buff in 6E!

Our campaign has 2 large and 1 smaller chessex battlemaps that serve us well for the most part. When I draw the map on the battlemap, usually I add something to keep the players surprised. For example, for a Champions game I created an area of the zoo where a white tiger was the target to be stolen by the bad guys. So, I added the giraffe area, hippo area, kobold cage... (yep, that last one got them.) However, there are times when a colored picture of a battlemap is just so perfect and much better drawn that I can draw. In this case (for those who also print battlemap pictures off), do you print them off on paper, or use transparency film? Up to this point, I'…

Verbosity warning: I had this idea for a "lost world" city called New Alexandria. In the first century of the Roman Empire, a group of scholars at the library in Alexandria became convinced of the coming decline and eventual fall of the Empire. When the Empire fell, they reasoned, a millennium or more of knowledge and discovery would be lost in an age of darkness. They resolved to keep that from happening. They undertook an enormous project. Working in secret, they copied and cached all of the library's most important works - philosophy, literature, science, mathematics, all of it. They quietly but diligently recruited people to carry on the work w…

I've been pondering a bit about how to build this kind of power, and I must admit I'm a bit stumped. For those not in the know, Purple Man is a Marvel character who exudes certain pheromones that make anyone around him do whatever he says. Now, that sounds like an AoE Mind Control, Always On, but not quite. See, the guy has used it one various mentalists (including Jean and Nate Grey IIR) and they where pretty much as vulnerable as anyone else. The only folks who I can recall resisting it are Daredevil and Dr Doom, or folks who are in a sealed environment like Iron Man. So its a Mind Control, Mental Defenses don't seem to affect it at all, though having an extre…

Hi, I'm trying to wrap my brain around computers in Champions but won't be able to talk to my GM for a while who actually knows the system. So, fun challenge for those who want to help: How would you build a 2020 personal computer (budget), a 2020 hacking computer (mid PT cost), or a super computer (high PT cost)? Bonus points for explaining features so this system learner doesn't accidently make something with huge ram but no memory or visa versa.

Over on RPGnet there is a thread about the kickstarter. I am a sucker for new super settings for stea.....err borrowing. On the whole I liked it. Interesting backstory, a rational for why there are all those powers/gadgets/magic items. I didn't like that the different factions have different pricing for abilities or items. And I really didn't like the multiple experience tracks (one for regular exp. one for your fame stat and each has an effect on your progression) But the one spot I found most interesting was a stat called KA. Every PC will have KA. It allows them the reason they can do the amazing things they do. And as I was reading it…

A while back, we spent some time discussing how Hero needs a way of introducing people into the game for modern players. In the past, it was fine to print a book of rules and hand them to people, because folks were more accustomed to long-form reading, studying, and figuring rules out on their own. For those who like this sort of thing and still do it, well that's great. But for many others, especially younger players we want to draw into the hobby, we wanted something more. Also, its not that Hero is complicated or difficult to learn, but it has gained that reputation in recent years, and its useful to help people see that isn't the case. From this discuss…

Have you ever wondered how supervillains just starting out get their first minions? What does a minor master villain do when one of their agents gets sick or incapacitated right before a big job? Mook Temps is an underworld temporary help agency that matches mooks and thugs with aspiring supervillains and short handed villain organizations. They also provide technicians for hire.

I remember reading a science fiction series where the protagonist can use his telekinesis through a closed circuit TV system. That got me thinking, how would I build a mental power like telepathy through such a system? The complication lies in the fact that telepathy uses LOS and LOS can't act that way. The only way I could think of to do this is a Range Modifier limitation with a No Range Modifier advantage. However, Range advantages and limitations aren't suppose to be used on a single power. While I know you can always override that, I was wondering if there is a more 'rules friendly' method Thanks

I've seen that both Amazon and DriveThruRPG offer Champions 4th Edition in softcover format as a print on demand. I also remember someone posting that one version is better than the one in terms of readability from the digital scan, but was unable to find the original thread posted well over a year ago. Has anyone purchased a copy? If so, which vendor provides the better reprinted Champions 4th Edition? Amazon or DriveThruRPG? Thanks for your help (in advance). 🙂

I'm currently reading adventure "Invasion of the Gweenies" from Haymaker 17, and it makes several references to "The Exterminators", a group that I have no memory of. A quick look through my 3rd and 4th edition books has turned up nothing, and I've not found any references online. Does anyone remember this group. If its any help, from the context it appears to be a non-powered non-government group of pro-American extremists.

Just a fun convention poll for Champions players... Any amusing tales would be welcomed too. I have seen at least all of these occurrences over 20 years of Cons, though most of the insulting ones were silly insults as a brief comment and not over the whole session. I saw but did not have happen to me #2. Most of my under powered characters simply got a boost on CV by one or two and maybe a DC increase by one or two to enter a game. The one player was trying to bring in characters designed for an 8DC game where as the game was set to about 24DC. The bleeding to death character was the guy's brick. Please note this is a MULTIPLE choice poll and…

Hello, Everyone! As mentioned previously, I customized and used various HeroClix figures as my miniatures for Champions. Over time, I've collected an excess of figures that I don't need anymore and am willing to send free of charge to someone who'll put them to good use for his or her campaign or general figure collection. Attached is a photo of what's in the lot. If interested, please send me a PM. It will be first come, first serve. Thanks!

(Transferred from another thread, I didn't mean to hijack) Ohhhh, I like this - gives me a great idea for a character (hero or villain) - Displacer - generates a field that makes everything inside the field (including Displacer themselves) always not actually where they are, like looking through a prism; oh man! maybe they should be called Prism! Anyway, makes them (or anyone else or anything in the field) almost impossible to target (so that would include aoe attacks)... I like that idea! Now, how do I write that up? To clarify; I envision this as a field generated by the character, that "redirects" the attack ra…

Hello Herodom! I'm working on a hero that can assume an alternate form as one of their powers. Think Electro, but their body becomes electricity at times. I was looking at Champions Powers and they build it as Desolidification. Great, but that's only one aspect of the power. I was looking at the following: - Electrical Form: Desolidification (Not good vs. Conductible) - Zapped: 1d6 RKA (AoE - Personal Surface/Damage Shield; Affects Physical World) - Zip-Zap: Flight 25" - Energy Being: Life Support So here's my question: With the above grouped together should they be linked since it's an alt form? Does Unified Power apply? They do have…

I feel like I am making this too hard. A character with Telekinesis +40 STR grabs and throws a villain straight up. How much falling damage does the villain take when they land? I see that the actual throw strength is 40 - 10 (the STR needed to lift an adult) or the extra STR of 30 for 48m. Do I treat this as a Standing Throw for half the distance, i.e. 24m. But that's like throwing a grenade or something for distance. As this is straight up, is the throw like a leap where the maximum height is half the distance? So 12m or 6d6 normal damage? Does the villain hit the top at the end of the segment they are thrown, or do I need to figure a…
