Does it make sense for superheroes to be out about fighting as superheroes if they have healing? A long time ago, friends I gamed with in a modern superhero game basically said, if you think about it, if you can heal and wanted to be a superhero, you'd do work in a hospital emergency center or a clinic. What do you think about this comment?

OK all, you saw the news post about Champions Begins: An Introduction to the Hero System. If you haven't grabbed a copy yet you need to now. This is brilliant and exactly the tool to intro a Champions game.

First let me say that I was always onboard for the idea of mutants. In Marvel, there are all these people with powers but for some reason mutants are singled out to be feared and hated. But, to me, it always worked. I bought into it. Captain America could be high-fived in public by a little kid, but someone suspected of being a mutant wouldn't be allowed anywhere near that kid, even if that mutant just saved the day. I guess what I'm asking is, What is the psychology of this situation? Why does it work and ring true narratively?

I've been toying with running a 'Justice League' style campaign for awhile, where the PCs are among the strongest Heroes in the setting. Thinking powers in the 75-100 AP range. Oh, this would be in 5th edition. Anyway, what sort of issues and pitfalls should I be aware of at high powered levels like that? A big part of the campaign will be more about "what do you do with that sort of power" rather than "stop the bank heist" play. It will definitly have a bit of an 'Authority' vibe (with governements being hesitant if not downright antagonistic to supers at that level of power). One issue that seems to pop up in official character builds…

This is a variant with the following fixes: 1. STR bug 2. Three new powers: Retro-, Ergo- , Pre- cognition. 3. Armoring Piercing/Hardening stacks. (1/2, 1/4, 1/8 etc. instead of 1/2 only) This is still alpha. NPSuper.hdt

This thread is a think of what would be in the third book of Templates. Christoph has voiced a desire to do one of DC Comics proxies. Here is my list of characters most likely to be included and whyish. The Big Three Basically it would be fully to do a book of DC Comics proxies without Flying Mammal Man (Batman), the Man of the Future (Superman), nor the Woman of Wonder (Wonder Woman). Because they are the big names, they should exist in the two cost range of all the big characters of the books. Also I expect that they will have some of the support characters in the book. Bird Boy (Robin), Clownman (Joker), Science Buisnessman (Lex Luthor), Al…

OK as I get a first draft down to sections of this I'm going to post them as pdfs here for people to look over and comment on. My goals are these: To create a package that has a book for GMs and a book for Players For each book to be fun, easy to read, and teach the system The scenario is in tutorial format (familiar to gamers) introducing concepts one bloc at a time, until they know enough to play the game without the tutorial I'm using the old Viper's Nest/Microfilm Madness scenario updated for modern times (so, no microfilm) Each chapter has an intro to the rules used in this section, then the episode of the scenario Play…

I've uploaded a PDF file with errata for Champions 2nd edition: https://www.herogames.com/files/file/573-champions-2nd-edition-errata/ I've had this back-burnered for a long time now, but it wasn't until recently - after finally getting my hands on a copy of the fourth printing of the 2E rules - that I was able to dust it off and complete it. Undoubtedly it's not more than a historical curiosity at this point, but I hope those with an interest will enjoy this smallest of Christmas presents

As is my wont, like the straightforward title asks. A list of villains from 4e, and listed by supplement. Heroes too, but they're not as common, and I wanted the title to be easier to find via search engine. I think there was a thread that answered this, but I can't seem to find it. So much for my MLIS...

I use the following benchmarks for my games Attack 50 AP (65 w/ Advan) Defense 50 AP (basically 25/25) [again 65 w/advan) Dex and CV 20/7 (up to +3 w/ Skills) SPD 5 Reduce on means you can add to another. SO..... Att 70 (+20) Def 50 (0) Dex 17/6 (+2 w/ skills) (-10) SPD 4 (-10) I'd allow Att 80 (+30) Def 40 (-10) Dex 17/6 (+2 w/ skills) (-10) SPD 4 (-10) Still good Now to flip it Att 20 (-10) Def 80 (0)--- basically 40/40 Dex 17/6 (+2 w/ skills) (-10) SPD 4 (-10) A friend once described how this character (his PC) was…

I need some help with a female character that has a shapeshifting pool (VPP) Below is what powers and abilities that she has. What do you think would be a good starting point for her STR, DEX, & CON? What powers and abilities could she have starting out if I want to her look like the description below but with unearthly beauty which is +5/+5d6 Striking Appearance (vs. all characters)? How do I make her description sound like she has unearthly beauty? Physical Description: A statuesque woman of unearthly beauty and grace walks in. There is something sexy about the way she carries herself, a hidden power to her movements. She has a muscular yet femini…

With Omicron on the horizon, I figure I'd ask another pandemic question about gaming online. We all know the benefits of gaming online but what do you hate most about it? Personally for me, the most aggravating aspect (though I have problems with most of the items noted in the poll) is when we get to the plot twist/surprise and everyone begins talking at once. IRL, even if you can't understand everyone talking at once, you know they are talking. But the conferencing software doesn't handle this well, usually muting people silent. I also hate that sometimes, conference calls will drop parts of the conversation making it unhearable, making you ask them to re…

PLEASE NOTE: This topic isn't whether you support vaccination, masks, etc. Its just about how the current environment is affecting your HERO gaming. Please refrain from such conversations pro or con. My game kind of fizzled as one of the core players moved back to the east coast and kind of isolated himself for various reasons (not all reasons due to the pandemic).

I have an interesting idea. In my game there are meta-gangers; low-end, low-life, low-brow, streetkind who have minor superpowers. There are beaters, blasters, cutters and psykers. One type of blaster can hit his fellow blaster to boost his power, up to two more can fire beams at him for extra boost. I think I can do this with Requires Multiple Users (-1/4 or more), but is it more tactically fun for the players to actually require the other blasters to use Aid? Or, third possibility, conditional power Must Have Other Blasters Within 3 Meters (-1) to add more dice to the attack. The whole notion is to give the player an option to pick targets and judge the ris…

I’m normally more specific with my topic titles but I’ve a few odd questions that don’t fit a higher theme, and may have more as I think of them. Also, the questions assume knowledge of the source material, particularly the 4e supplement Watchers of the Dragon. Here’re my questions, with no further adieu: • According to the rules no high-tech is allowed in the tournament. But what about everything else that isn’t martial arts? No reason was given that I remember for other superpowers being disallowed, save for implied tradition. • Related to the above, what if the fighter only uses martial arts, but they’ve been genetically enhanced? (Teleios …

Stalker's Background in Champions Villains: Vol3 mentions that his decades of killing were temporarily brought to a halt in the 1960s by El Espectro, a Masked Mexican Wrestler and expert monster fighter. Does El Espectro appear anywhere else? Do we have any information on him? I feel like I've seen his name elsewhere in the fiction. I've decided I need an NPC legacy hero to show up as a contrast to a descendent of the Black Mask in my Ravenswood games & a descendent of El Espectro might fit the bill (assuming he is at all an appropriate character for what I'm thinking). "Son of" characters are an honored tradition in Lucha Libre anyway which…

Here are some notes I've prepared (sort of) for the third arc of Crisis Patrol. Very sketchy at this point. This is a mess, but maybe it gives you an idea of what I'm going to attempt starting on January 2nd, 2022. The in-game date is December 26th, 2037 (55 years to the day after my first DnD game). The Death of a Hero Foreshadowing: A Giant Big Robot is on day 178 of his mysterious run of just standing in a field outside Marshalltown, Iowa. An alien probe is discovered in Central Indiana, and Richard Dyck has donate a huge sum of money to repair the Ukifah Heep Memorial Bridge. Doctor Hibernia Nycto robbed a bank. A strange explosion is seen in the dire…

After all these years, I'm finally using the forums for actual HERO questions! So yeah...supernatural/magic game and I'm coming up with a gadgeteer techie type who wants to use SCIENCE~! to help quantify What Is Magic Exactly? And one of the ideas hubby and I brainstormed about was a "grenade" (for lack of a better term) than can Suppress a user's (magic) powers temporarily by coating the foe with basically a sticky propriatary "anti-magic" powder ("Oh...just powdered meteorite and silver and dried allum and rock salt encased in an inert gel. Quite ingenious actually!") Limited use, possibly with AoE...thoughts on how to stat this?

I need some help with my supernatural being known as Shurkhard. Shurkhard is the monstrous form of this supernatural being. Shurkhard does have a human form. Shurkhard is a multiform character with the Shurkhard form being made with five hundred points. What is your opinion of what I have on Shurkhard's so far? I have twenty-six more points left to spend on Shurkhard's skills. Besides the skills listed below, what other skills do you think Shurkhard should have? How can I make Shurkhard's description sound better and more detailed? What do you think the human form would be like? I am thinking that the human form might be Middle Eastern in appearance. That might …

I don't know the Champions Universe as well as some of you might, since when I ran Champions I had my own setting and characters. Are there supervillains in the CU that would be able to create natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, tornadoes, blizzards, etc?
