Okay, this being Cracked, the language is probably NSFW and the facts might be suspect, but... taken as is, these cases are full of awesome ideas for your game. http://www.cracked.com/article_18459_the-5-creepiest-unsolved-crimes-nobody-can-explain.html

Due to its topical and tabloidy nature, I thought I'd cross post this from the NGD Broaden Your Horizons thread. The Israeli National Police put two female officers undercover posing as "lesbian models" as a means of keeping the criminals from becoming sexually aggressive with them - and to ensure the criminals wouldn't try to claim they were giving them drugs for sex. The operation resulted in 46 arrests. Its the kind of thing I'd expect from a... game. Maybe someone can use it. Link: lesbian model cover.

I have a current PC who is a "go in with nothing, take or find what you need to get out alive" type of guy, especially when it comes to combat. Now I've always had a little trouble modeling the character, but it's time to dole out experience and I'm revisiting the character sheet. The whole point of the character's combat MO is that he goes in empty handed, and either disarms his foes to use their weapons against them, or he finds mundane items around and does silly amounts of damage with them (considering their nature). The way I had originally modeled this was by giving the character +d6 HTH Attack. Soon, it was mentioned: "So, I'm noticing that there's not real…

I'm currently starting a Urban Fantasy Hero campaign based on Hudson City Shadows (but darker), in brief the campaign starts in 2012 where the magic level , which has been steadily rising since the late 1800s, has finally gotten high enough for combat spells (cast in one turn) and magical creatures to exist. Anyway I was considering rewriting the origin of some of the villians to reflect a more mystical source. here's what I have so far: Pulsar Similar except that Viper is actually run by the Lemurians, and their Technology is actually Scientific-Sorcery, so when he was strapped into the machine it was actually infusing him with Corusqua giving him lightning ba…

On page 192 of DC there is an example of blowthrough. "Firefight's attack roll succeeds. His handgun does RKA 2d6 damage. The GM rules the door has 2 DEF, 2 BODY. Firefight rolls RKA 1d6 and gets 4 BODY -- just enough for blowthrough! Firefight's target takes the full 4 BODY damage..." This makes no sense at all. What happened to the other 1d6? Why wasn't it rolled? I would have expected RKA 2d6 to be rolled, divided by two and compared to 4. Then if it got blowthrough, the damage would be the sum of both dice. I don't see an errata page for Dark Champions, so I wonder if the book is really correct.

Hello! I received my copy of the Hero System 6th Edition today, and have begun reading it. My intention is to develop my own alternate WWII setting using this set of rules to power the actual gaming. Reviewing my 5th edition setting books, I figured that WWII probably has more in common with Dark Champions than it does Pulp Hero. I have to admit that, whilst I have read and wanted to play Hero since the 5th Edition, I have never taken the plunge. There is a lot of work to do, it seems to me, before I even try to engage the players in a game. And then I have to overcome the fear of complex, detailed game rules... not that Hero strikes me as all that complex, once…

Okay, maybe it has been all the talk about the Ultimate Martial Artist or perhaps the story I recently read about a Chinese man who taught some moneys Kung fu; either way, I now want to try and build a Monkey Kung-Fu martial artist with a slight twist. I was going to build it with a follower (monkey) that fights in combination with the martial artist. Should I try to build this as a follower and then build in team work manuevers or build the money as a special effect? I'm leaning to the former because it allows a lot of versitility (having the money go fetch things, interact with others, operate seemingly autonomously, etc). Also, if you were to build a Monkey Kung-…

those who played in Dean Shomshak's old Sentinels campaign might remember a slightly similar plot by the Wyvern, iirc. Hyper nationalistic (and ruthless) operative decides to eliminate or reduce two problems for the US at the same time. His method? Using North Korean Nuclear weapons to hit Iranian enrichment sites and/or weapons. As an alternative, using Russian or CHinese weapons to hit both "Rogue states" Admittedly, all variations would probably require an operative with James Bond level skills, shapeshift, etc, but for a Dark Champions game...

Hello all! I get into the Hero System about a year ago and have finally reached that point that I'm ready to start trying to build characters myself. I picked up Hero Designer recently to aid in my attempts and have recently hit on an idea that I liked enough to make it my first genuine attempt at building a character from scratch. I am going to be a player in Manic Typist's Secret Wars campaign starting in the Spring so I designed this character to try and fit into that kind of setting. Not my planned character but I thought it would be nice to have something in reserve in case I end up needing it. Since this is my first attempt at making a character myself I'…

I was researching chemically assisted interrogation for the Play By Google Docs game I run and ran across a relevant on the Central Intelligence Agency site. I got a kick out of the part where they speculated LSD-25 had potential as a counter-interrogation drug in limited circumstances. It cracked me up. Not because its out of the realm of possibility, but because of the absurdist scenes it could produce. Yes, dry stuff like this makes me laugh. Anyways, it seemed like a good reference for people in Dark Champions games... Linkage: GO HERE.

Well that was a horribly generic title, but it fits I suppose. I plan on starting a new Dark Champions campaign very soon. Playing Champions Online reminded me how much I like roleplaying, and moreover, just how much awesomeness is contained within the Hero System rule set. The as-yet-unnamed campaign has much in common with Manic Typist's new campaign. It is set in Hudson City and intended to be a bit on the grim side. Despite being DC, the PCs will all possess low-level powers, and represent a sort of First Wave of powered individuals arriving in the world. A sort of gritty vigilante Heroes game, if you will. I'll start this off with a few questions. Personall…
