For all you gun experts. Antique Shotgun Is this a percussion cap shotgun? It looks a little like it to me but I've not found a date for it yet so I'm not sure. Thanks.

I am posting this in the Dark Champions thread since this seems to be where most of my fellow gun bunnies hang out. Anybody happy (like me) that the latest issue of the American Rifleman says the US military is going readopt the .45 caliber pistol as its standard side arm. Apparently the 9mm has been disappointing. While the 9mm has better penetration but it lacks stopping power. If you want to penetrate something you'll use a rifle anyway. The US Military has decided that stopping power is more important. The decision has been made to open bidding for a new .45 ACP Joint Combat Pistol. Apparently the US Military is looking to purchase up to 649,000 of which ever .45…

There is a ton of information on bullet balistics, penetration, balistic gel tests for various rounds/loads, etc. Is there anything on arrows... specifically on the unique damage to a human body done by an arrow? I know a four inch penetration through armor was usually considered a "kill" and not just a wound... but I'm thinking that was due more to poor medical aid rather than "insta-kill." What I'm interested in is the kind of damage an arrow (think broadhead hunting tip or the long, pointed pile arrow as two main types of damage). How does penetration and damage compare to say, a 9mm round? What is the damage done trying to remove the arrow (sans silk sh…

I don't know how many of you go into this level of detail in your games, but I have found a site that can give you data on sunrise, sunset, moonrise, moonset and other data, for just about any city in the US on any day of the year, past or present. Sun & Moon cycles.

What kinds of armor can you think of, or have seen used in campaigns? What sort of stats would you assign these various kinds of armor, whether it be everyday, unusual, advanced, exotic, or just plain bizzarre? I admit I am woefully ignorant of the various kinds of modern day armor out there. Also, what DEF value would you assign a cup? You know, the one that covers hit location 13?

Okay, What happens next? In the Weekend Warriors campaign that I am in, My character - Sweeper, just pulled a real doozy. I won't say that it will stop the campaign, BUT, it will definitely change the course of the campaigns short term future. I want to know what the rest of "you" out there would do.... For the details of the the gaff, refer to the campaign log of the Weekend Warriors. When it gets posted - Should be with-in a week or so... Would any of you... A) Pretend that nothing out of the ordinary happened, and carry on as "normal". Finish off the character with ritualist "sepuku"(?) and start fresh. C) Try to use th…

I'm a new dark champions gm, so I thought I aske the experienced hands here for some assistance. I have vague notions for villians that I'd like to feature in upcoming sessions...one a Eastern European crimelord with horror/vampire undertones....the other a frightening killer that I could use in a wild west setting. A quick scan of the Predators table of contents as listed on the Hero Games website shows two villains therein that might fit my needs: Strad and the Headless Hangman. I'm therefore considereing ordering the book, but before I do so I'd like a better idea as to whether these characters so indeed fit my needs. Can someone provide brief overviews of the ch…

I am building a character for a new player in the Weekend Warriors campaign. The player is not too familiar with the system so I have his basic specifications so that I can do an initial build to save time. I having trouble thinking of a good name so I thought I’d see what suggestions the community has. I need a name for a vigilante character in a low-powered Heroic game. The character uses a katana but also has a .357 magnum revolver (Colt Python). I may also give him some shuriken. I think that I will make the character the son of a Japanese father and an American mother (mixed blood). The character has lived in America all his life and is in his late twenties. In …

I am currently running a Dark Champions "Cyberpunk" flavor game, and one of the optional rules that I am using is Adjustable Hit Locations (Dark Champions, p. 185). Since my game is a Hero level campaign (75 pt characters to start with), I adjusted the power curve of this optional rule downward by only granting +/- 1 to the Hit Location chart for every 2 points by which they make their Attack Rolls, rather than +/- 1 per 1 point. This makes it a little more challenging to get that critical "head shot" or "vitals" shot, which I feel is more appropriate for this power level, but still rewards the players with a much more desirable Hit Location when needed on a "good shot"…

A couple days ago, I came up with a very strange character idea. Think of this one as a mix of Anime and Dark Champions, like Golgo 13 or Kite, and further blended with the unholyness of Hamtaro. Presenting: Gunner, the Hamster Hitman Gunner - VAL CHA Cost Total Roll Notes -15 STR -25 -15 6- HTH Damage -3d6 END [0] 20 DEX 30 20 13- OCV 7 DCV 7 12 CON 4 12 11- 2 BODY -16 2 9- 15 INT 5 15 12- PER Roll 12- 12 EGO 4 12 11- ECV: 4 0 PRE -10 0 9- PRE Attack: 0d6 20 C…

At least I think it's clever... For my Weekend Warriors campaign I have just constructed a prop for our next game. It is supposed to be a page from HCVIGILANTE.NET. I created this prop in reaction to the group's bloody solution to their most recent action (see the last log entry). The prop is attached to this post as a PDF file (Acrobat). Here is how I created it: I went to the The things I learned playing a gunbunny thread and used the forum tools to display a printable version. I then took the page removed the hyperlinks and rewrote some of the text, saved it as a PDF and there you have it. I think it came out pretty nice. However some of you have now bee…

I just watched the trailer, it looks pretty good. I liked Micheal Mann's heat and Collateral, so hopefully this is just as good. At the very least it will be some good ideas for DC

My recent internet hiatus got me thinking (well, watching) about using TV or Cinema inspired campaign settings for a Dark Champions game. Of course, who would restrain their diet to one simple entrée when there are so many good ones to sample? 1. Buffyverse — Vampires, Demons, and other weirdness at the hellmouth (I have only seen season 1). 2. Charmed — witches, white-lighters, demons, and a score of other infernal creatures (my wife watches it). 3. The 4400 — psychic powers, governments here to “protect you,†and people from the future. Now then, what other shows would work? Once I get a good list of candidates, I may try to kit-bash t…

Hello everyone, recently watched Equillibrium again and was thinking... how would you represent something like the Gun Kata skills? Would you make good use of skills and combat options or would you use powers? I'd love to see how you'd represent it, as I like some of the concepts therein, and it makes for great visuals in any case. I tried the powers route for a Champions game via Energy Blast, Radius, No Range, Hole in the Middle... OAF, Gestures. =) I'd like a better way of doing it if possible.

why, you ask, would an anime comedy go in the DC forum? Genre; it's a cop show. I am trying to write up the cast of You're Under Arrest, the Kajishima series about the lives and loves of Tokyo policewomen at a preceint full of eccentrics. There are some things that have been easy to model, but some are a bit tougher. so i thought i would ask for help, especially regarding super-skills. some examples of abilities that fall under those headings: Miyuki's ability to take anything that has wheels and an engine and make it perform far beyond its normal capacity (she's even souped up her partner's moped, and I have a hard time imagining how one could do that…

Attached is an Acrobat document that I have been working on. It is a three page set of rules and three pages of cards for doing car chases in Hero System using a system adapted from Spycraft 2.0 by AEG. I did these in order to try and improve the car chase rules for use in my own Dark Champions campaign. That means that this conversion is specifically intended to be used with cars and motorcycles. With some work I imagine it could be modifed for use with other forms of transportation. While I built it with Dark Champions in mind I think it would work equally well with Pulp Hero. I have not playtested these rules yet. In fact I have barely proof read them. Since …

This thread is tied to "More Bat-tyness", the URL of which is http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43505. Catwoman, Selina Kyle, is one of Batman's best-known foes. Her origin's changed, as has her costume. However, in most cases, she's a cat burglar who also does good things and has a crush on Batman. Our universe's Catwoman is a bit different. She was caught breaking into a mad scientist's lab by one of his henchmen and taken before the scientist himself. Deciding that the burglar would make a wonderful test subject, he removed her jacket and webbing, then injected her with something. "What are you doing?" she snarled as he positioned a …
