C'mon, people, I know you've all seen Unbreakable. I know you've read the Dark Knight graphic novel and paged through Watchmen. You may even have glanced at The Sandman collection. And I know you wouldn't be cruising this forum if the street-level struggle to bring hope out of hopelessness didn't appeal to you down on some shadowy level of your soul. In Arkana City, hell is called the Barrows. Things are bad there, but what's worse is that some Barrows-dwellers consider damnation business as usual. Innocent is another word for victim, and trust is for fools and dead men. Hope is barely a memory. You'd have to be crazy -- or damned yourself -- to try and make a…

I posted this in champs as well, but the character is in someways very DC, so thought I would post it here as well This is the character I have been playing for a while, wanted your thoughts on it History/Background: David Roberts early life was not that unusual, growing up in (Name of City Here). His father was a cop, his mother worked at a local teen shelter as a teacher (the shelter kept a single teacher on as a tutor); he also had two younger brothers, Kevin and John. His father would take him down to the shooting range every week, where John proved to be remarkable; within a day or two of practice he would hit the bulls-eye at least 9 out of 10 times. …

This is not set in the main DC Comics Universe. There was neither plague, nor earthquake. The "No Man's Land" incident never occurred. There is no Bludhaven. Jim Gordon is still police commissioner. The DOE doesn't exist, but PRIMUS does, mainly because I think the agency is cool. PRIMUS doesn't have a branch office in Gotham City, however Intelligence Agent Cameron Chase is stationed in the city to keep an eye on Batman. She doesn't know who he is, but she's impressed by him. The last Robin, Stephanie Brown was killed by a thug moments after Batman fired her. Batman took the thug down. Harold, whose full name is Harold Allnut, wasn't killed by H…

I am currently putting together a spread sheet to use as a quick reference for landmarks and services, shopping and "on the Town" locations by neighbourhoods. I am using Microsoft Excel for it and wonder if anyone has something like that for the NPC's of Hudson City or done this before. I know Hero Games personnel are on the site often. If you have any ideas, suggestions or restrictions on such a spreadsheet, I would like to hear. If you would like a copy, talk to me and I will wait until I hear from Hero Games on if I can spread it around. I would like to trade it for maybe a spreadsheet on NPCs in Hudson as that will be my next project. Thanks for any id…

Greeting again, In developing my setting for "The Unremarkables" I found myself asking, "how much do I really need to do up front to make this work well?" More specifically, how many and what sort of NPCs are good to have fleshed out before even attempting to run such a game? Now some of this may be answered in the Dark Champions book but, alas, I do not have it and am operating mostly on core rule books at this time. I was wondering what other have done and what sort of NPCs and denizens they had ready at the beginning. Also, I am running this game on a seriously tight budget, so any online or even personal resources that might have some material I could u…

Hi, Hudson City is so large that I am working on putting it in some spreadsheets for Microsoft Excel. I am wondering if anyone has done this before and would be interested in sharing their work. I am doing all the businesses and landmarks by neighbourhood and will do all the NPC by name, location and organization as I work in it. I am also thinking of page numbers so I can find them easily. How does everyone else handle this?

We just started up in a new Dark Champions Campaign set in HC and run by Edsel. Characters are built on 50 + 50 with upto 5 experience points for a good background. We have typically run 75 + 75 so the shift in SPD and CVs still has us guessing a bit. Anyway, here is my character [A downgraded version of a one shot character]. I have been pondering the thought of taking the Dramatic Conflict (Chases) from Spycraft (by AEG) and trying to come up with a version that will work with Hero System. I think that the idea of chase cards is really kind of neat. Normally the players have no idea what to do when chasing or being chased in my Dark Champions game, other than to try to catch them or run away from them. I think that having selection of cards with various strategies (maneuvers) on them might put a little more life into chases. I am just getting started. I am going to re-read the TUV rules for chases and then re-read the Spycraft 2.0 rules on chases. Then I'll see what I can come up with. H…

Setting aside for a moment that, in HERO, we don't get XP equal to a character's total; And, setting aside for a moment that, in HERO, we don't get XP just for killing people at all; And, knowing that some munchkin out there will, if they haven't already, try to do this: What's the point total for every NPC in your average modern city? According to "Average Individuals", on page 133 of my 4th Edition HERO rulebook, a "Competent Normal" is worth 75 points, a "Skilled Normal" is worth 35, a regular "Normal" is worth 5, an "Incompetent" normal is worth -20, "Senior Citizens" are worth -20, and "Small Children" are worth -50. Figuring out the percenta…

In my DC game one of the things that is popular among the characters is the use of Tracfones grant a higher degree of security. The thinking here is that since you can buy the phones and cards with cash it makes it harder to trace back a phone to an individual. I'll admit I know little about these devices. I haven't ever even used a prepaid phone card. Is our logic correct on the benefits of Tracfones or have we invented a mesure of anonymity that isn't really there?

Most of the driving I do in real life is around the Oklahoma City and Tulsa areas. The elevated expressways in those two cities are generally six lanes wide (three lanes either way). Hudson City is an old eastern seaboard major city. How big is the average elevated expressway in cities of that type, four, six, eight, ten, more? Since the Hudson City book does not give specific information on the number of lanes its elevated expressways have I am thinking of going with a default of six to eight lanes. Does this sound about right?

I'm not sure if this interests anyone, but I thought that I would throw it in. I had a friend (he is now dead) who did a lot of work on modern day wargame scenarios, etc. He found that he could get excellent technical and order of battle info from military attaches of the various embassies. The trick was, he didn't ask them about their armed forces, for security reasons they wouldn't give out much; he asked them about their enemies' armed forces. He got detailed data on the Syrian order of battle from the Israeli embassy, and detailed info on the Israeli forces from the Syrian embassy.

This might be better off in the other genre forum, but it seems more suited to the Dark Champions/Gun nuts forum. Assuming a world where it's well known vampires, werewolves, etc exist, it's reasonable to say the army would have a unit for dealing with such problems. Using variations on existing special forces equipment and assuming that the spec/ops guys are fully human, no magical abilities, what sort of equipment might be used? I'm already assuming general issue is silver ammunition since that works on most of the monsters. Are any of the new airburst grenades incendiary? I'm thinking maybe M136's with silver HE. Holy Water aerosol grenades. Anything bigge…

I know that this might be sensitive material but I kinda need to get an idea what a military base looks like. An out of date now defunct base would be perfect. Does anyone have any ideas where I might look? Thanks in advance, Ali

well after looking at the vehicle combat setup for tabletop...i know its normally NOT feasable.. UNTILL i read the other rules on how its not done on tabletop. And it hit me, OK you dont move the vehicles , you SPACE the CHASE... let me explain... OK lets say you have one of those big box van. it has a LF and it goes about 21" with a non com of x4.. but for now lets say were in combat! the SUV that has the gang bangers whos lookin to get away from our heros has a 24" mer turn and X4 non com movement. each move phase you move the amout DIFFERENCE between the 2. so both vehicles have a spd of 3 and thus on 4 8 and 12 the difference becomes 3" to 6" to 9".…

Actually, we just finished the second "book" of Penny Dreadfuls’ escapades. I managed to head her off at the pass at the insane asylum but this time she left us cold. We did manage to unravel the clues (Well, not the second one but who could figure that one out. Luckily, my character has a 13— Hudson City CK & KS) and find the "Plutomium." Poor Organiztia.... they never knew what hit them. Great adventure so far. Devious implementation. Great Handouts.

Imagine, if you will, a core SFX of "good and evil", for the power to affect the good and evil of others; to raise it, and lower it; to make anyone into a monster, or a saint; but, as in all things, there must be a balance. Specifically, the power can transfer good and evil between individuals, but only where it exists in the first place, and not past the level to which it is present. Furthermore, the power is imprecise in two areas; the sensing of what degree of strength (for good and evil) is in a person, and the measure of good or evil transferred. This element of risk makes the power incredibly dangerous - to the user! The power can be used as a morale booster - …

Question: I was thinking about using Frank Martin from the "Transporter" movies as a bar set for my PCs in a new urban pulp game I plan on running. Has anyone out there actually made this particular character up, and if so, could you post him so I could use it as a comparison to what I already have? Many thanks for the help.
