Inspired by a misread of this thread, I got wondering what strange, warped, and wacky powers and power modifiers those out there in Herodom can create. Think of the Stuper! Powers game and how wacky they got with their abilities. Basically anything will go - x-ray vision that cannot see through glass is good, blast that cannot hurt organics will work, etc. Lets have some fun with our great system get some rather wacky abilities! 🤣

[The Multiple Attack rules specifically state that characters cannot use defensive maneuvers or Actions (such as Block or Deflection) as part of a Multiple Attack, nor make a Multiple “Attack” that consists of nothing but defensive actions. However, the GM may choose to ignore this rule, allowing characters to freely mix offensive and defensive Actions as part of a Multiple Attack. This imposes an additional -2 OCV penalty on all the Attack Rolls in the Multiple Attack — and of course, since it’s a Multiple Attack the character’s DCV is halved, which may negate or diminish the effectiveness of any defensive Actions involved]

Ok so i'm starting up a one piece campaign as a new DM, and ive been having a bit of trouble setting up powers, specifically the Buki Buki No Mi. This fruit is a paramecia that allows the user to interchange body parts into weapons temporarily. Any suggestions?

Hello, I'm running a superhero game and a couple of my players want to have powers that go off when they punch something. 1) The first player wishes to punch people and then do a drain and aid. He's bought the drain and aid separate. I designed them using trigger but I think I've accidentally over designed/made it cost way more than it should. He has a selective AoE HA attack and the idea is that he blinks around like nightcrawler draining targets and boosting himself. He doesn't always want to trigger the drain/aid as his special effect reason is that he can target specific energy points for the drain or just hit them normally. Is trigger the right way to do this? 2) …

We have several topics that deal with some form of outlier, such as if characters were able to gain double or more their points or the Dr. Destroyer type. In many ways, the PCs could be considered to be another outlier within your campaign even if they are streetlevel in a world of cosmic types. Another kind that is frequently seen is how to topics like the way powers, skills, characters, etc are made. This also includes the way to introduce something new into a preexisting campaign, like going form espionage to supers or fantasy. However, there is little talk about those who are the normal folks who make up the mainstream of society. Without these commonfolk, the big, po…

How much limitation would you give to a person with the power to become invisible BUT he can be seen in reflections, mirrors, photographs, and recordings? The power has nothing to do with vampires, it just the opposite of how vampires are visible to everyone except reflections, mirrors, photographs, and recordings.

I know Aid is cumulative but I remember older editions allowed you to increase the maximum effect. I don’t see that in the sixth edition rules. Cumulative allows effectsto be added and max effect to be increased for additional +1/4 advantage. If I wanted to increase the max effect of my Aid STR power would I have to buy+1/2 cumulative before buying the +1/4 increased maximum effect advantages? Given aid is already cumulative, would the first +1/2 increase the maximum effect? Really trawling round rules I rarely use except in vanilla ways... Doc

The Advanced Player Guides have a bunch of neat new ideas and ways of using powers in them, and I recommend picking them up for the thoughts. Some are so great they really should have always been in the rules, like Extradimensional Space. Here I am going to share some of the new concepts I have for Hero, for people to look at, suggest adjustments, or just giggle at. If other people would do the same with their house rules, this could be an interesting, valuable thread. For today: Area Effect Scatter: Costs half as much as Area Effect (any) and is bought the same way (basically buy AE: Any then get double the number of hexes/2m areas). But i…

I am looking at a character who has regeneration. I would like them to also resurrect, but not at the same rate as their normal regeneration. LIke regen 1 point a round, resurrection 1 point a day or a week. Is there anyway to do this without building two regen powers? It seems weird that the point value of adding resurrection to my 1 body a turn power is about the same as cheaper than buying a second, slower power for my resurrection (13 vs 14, not a huge deal but still...the 13 point power is waaaay superior). This is for 5th edition, btw. It made me wonder if Naked adders are a thing?

So i have asked a few questions on here already and i have some more. i will be the GM and my group started their characters tonight (didnt finish). we have really no idea what they should have for characters and where to go with it. i also have no idea where to start with making a campaign. we were skimming through through the BR but are still lost. its going to be a heroic campaign in modern of a group of “heroes” that fight crime (bank robberies, muggings, etc.) another question would be, what do people generally have for characteristic level limits? like what is the highest you will allow STR or END in a heroic playthrough?

How are Duplication and Summon balanced against each other? In 5Er and 6E, it costs 80 points to create a 400 point duplicate, and the same 80 points for a 400 point summon. The cost of higher powered, or additional bodies, appears to be the same. The duplicate is controlled by me and absolutely loyal. If the duplicate dies, it stays dead. If I want a duplicate to have different powers than me it takes a +1 Advantage. The summon has to be bribed or threatened to do a handful of things and then is done. Or it takes a +1 advantage to make it as loyal as the duplicate, and I still don't control it. If it dies I can just summon anothe…

So me and my friend are getting into this and I want to know what the best way to do that is. I bought the BR, the Character Creation book, and the Combat and Adventuring book. I started to read the BR but do I have read all of the books in their entirety?

I've always wondered why the Martial Arts Escape maneuver has a +0 OCV +0 DCV to it. It seems to me to be an automatic success to hit, regardless of Hero Games not having absolutes, hence my wondering about the +0 OCV. Now, whether you break out of the Grab is another thing. You're not going to use this maneuver unless you're Grabbed and if you're already Grabbed, why a DCV modifier? So, looking for some clarity to this.

The concept is as follows: The game universe has a "soundtrack" that is audible only to the audience and those characters who have spent the points on the appropriate sensing ability. Within this universe, those individuals who are important in the grand scheme of things each have a unique leitmotif (or motif for short) associated with them. The downside to having a leitmotif is, of course, that it makes it difficult if not impossible to have the element of surprise against enemies who can hear the soundtrack. As GM how much would you give characters for this as a DF?

Hello! I'm new to the hero system and have been wondering how viable it would be to run a game based, or at least inspired by, Monster Hunter in it. For those that don't know its a game Capcom made thats all about its namesake, using various oversized (and I mean OVERSIZED) weapons to hunt down giant monsters, carving off their parts to make unique equipment later. My main issues are the fact that I'm quite new to the system and don't know how to represent all the aspects I want to keep in. I'd assume it would be a heroic game despite the Hunters in the game being borderline superheroic with their physical feats, but everything past that I've been having mild issues with.…

FYI, I recently created a character sheet (in MS Word format) for HERO System 6th Edition, but done in the 3-Column style of the HERO System 4E character sheets. It's available in the site files section if you're interested.

First attack is an NND Blast. To supplement, there's some Ranged DCs and maneuvers. Second attack is the same NND, but this one does BODY...and I'm thinking, gets No Range. Same defenses apply. Question is: would the Ranged DCs, which have the weapon element Blasts, and the maneuvers count? The Range Mods from the maneuvers wouldn't, obviously, but the OCV, DCV, and any extra DCs from them. I can obviously build the Does BODY at range and the issue doesn't apply, but I like this combo, IF the martial maneuvers carry over. And, of course, 3 point CSLs are another route to consider.

I’ve been reading recently about sleepwalking and related syndromes and wondering how it might be presented in Hero System. A Physical Complication? A Psychological Complication? Something else? For one thing, it might make it difficult to maintain a secret ID if one goes sleep-flying without their mask and costume. A fantasy world thief could fall off a building while sleep climbing. Since you can be mind controlled while asleep and made to do things easier than when you’re awake, there’s also that to consider as a source of sleepwalking issues.

So, if I buy an attack power with Constant, it behaves differently than non-attack powers; it stays on the target and keeps taking effect each phase without needing a roll. But what if I want to buy an attack power that's lingering and ready to use, instead of instant, but I have to make an attack roll each phase to use? Like a knife? Just making it a Focus doesn't change how Constant or Instant works. As I understand it, making Blast into a Focus means I need the focus to use the blast each time, but I have to use whatever preparatory things to get it to work each time, like Incantations or a skill roll. I want to use the incantatations, skill …

The topic of vampire reflection got me wondering about if one were to remain totally visible but not be seen in any reflection (mirror, photograph, camera, etc) would that be a limitation, advantage, or neither. I can see situations where the advantages balance the problems. What thoughts does everyone at Herodom have on this?

HD allows a number of adders onto Combat Sense, and some of em....don't make a lot of sense to me. Figured I'd ask here what everyone else thinks. Concealed: applies to an active sense. The Talent doesn't indicate, but it feels like it's a passive one. Microscopic: doesn't seem to apply at all...or at least, feels like it'd almost never apply. Rapid: same Telescopic: can't be applied, at least not without GM approval. It only works at HTH combat distance, so range mods don't apply. Transmit: I'm not even sure how this would apply. Danger Sense also has Concealed, Microscopic, and Telescopic, and they don't make much …

I've been considering trying my hand at writing game supplement materials for publication, but I'm not sure what would be most helpful/wanted to people so decided to try a poll here to get a sense of public opinion from my fellow Hero fans. Feel free to explain your reasons for choosing one of the items. Thanks!

Something of a side thought. What do people think of a form of skill level that gives +1 to all background skills of a given type, defined by the associated skill enhancers? If it sounds plausible, then...cost. 2 per level? 3?
