HD allows a number of adders onto Combat Sense, and some of em....don't make a lot of sense to me. Figured I'd ask here what everyone else thinks. Concealed: applies to an active sense. The Talent doesn't indicate, but it feels like it's a passive one. Microscopic: doesn't seem to apply at all...or at least, feels like it'd almost never apply. Rapid: same Telescopic: can't be applied, at least not without GM approval. It only works at HTH combat distance, so range mods don't apply. Transmit: I'm not even sure how this would apply. Danger Sense also has Concealed, Microscopic, and Telescopic, and they don't make much …

I've been considering trying my hand at writing game supplement materials for publication, but I'm not sure what would be most helpful/wanted to people so decided to try a poll here to get a sense of public opinion from my fellow Hero fans. Feel free to explain your reasons for choosing one of the items. Thanks!

Something of a side thought. What do people think of a form of skill level that gives +1 to all background skills of a given type, defined by the associated skill enhancers? If it sounds plausible, then...cost. 2 per level? 3?

Let’s talk about credit, which is a big feature of modern and most likely future societies. Hero A doesn’t have much money on hand, but they have built an excellent credit rating (800+) and can easily borrow tens of thousands of dollars quickly if needed (loans, leases, platinum credit cards, etc). They can always manage to pay their debts eventually. I’m wondering if this is just a special effect of the Money Perk, or if it could justify a separate Perk of some kind. On the other hand, Hero B is always in debt and can never seem to make ends meet. Their credit rating is below 600, so they need co-signers to lease an apartment or buy a car.…

I want to design a power where a hero's STR stat is boosted to 50 automatically, whether the STR is 10, 15, 35, etc., but no higher. If the STR is already higher, then the power has no effect. How would you build this?

Hello, Quick question about AP and STR. Can you buy AP for your STR? I thought I remembered one of the old classic villains having such a thing. TIA

Just as the title says. In 3rd ED, can you put an Enhanced Sense in an EC? Following all the rules naturally? I could not see any rule for or against it. For example, my character Twister I put in Passive Sonar in an EC. The EC is only 10 pts.

Tracking turn order and who goes when is a fairly simple matter for those experienced with the game. Write down all the player characters and opponents in a column on the left hand of a sheet in order of dexterity. Make twelve columns to the right of them and label them segments one through twelve. For each character put a mark in their row corresponding to their speed in the speed chart. All fine and good, except perhaps for needing a ruler to make nice neat columns. This is only slightly tedious. In the old days when I used to run games, I would have a small stack of printed sheets already set up with those rows and columns for making such turn charts. Now h…

So...the notion is, the guy has bioelectric aspects. HTH based on ED (electrical SFX), powered from an END reserve. Also has defensive Absorption for electrical attacks. He takes it in and stores it for re-use...so, it goes to the END reserve. If it was going straight to END...no problem. The halving rule applies. But END Reserve is only listed as a Special Power. It feels like it should be classed as a Defense power for this purpose to me, but I figured I'd raise the point.

I asked this in the "Ask Steve" board, but Simon suggested I take it down here instead since its not an official part of the printed rules: In the Advanced Player Guide I, they mention the option of regenerating characteristics other than Body, which makes sense and is a useful concept. However, there is no real details on how to do this. There are three possibilities that I can think of that might be used: 1) You regenerate 1 (insert characteristic here) per time interim; 1 Body, 1 END, 1 Speed, etc 2) You regenerate 1 character point of (insert characteristic here) per time interim; 1 Body, 5 END, 1/10th Speed, etc 3) You regenerate y…

Hello all, I have a quick and perhaps odd question. I was poking around 3rd Ed and it comes to Telekinesis. My reading of it seems that TK could not be used to “Punch” any one besides the listed prohibition of no squeezing the target. Am I reading that right? Or am I reading into it? Or has that always been a grey area of those edition rules. Anyways thanks in advance

So I'm finishing up implementing APG Shrinking in HD. There's a bug left in displaying the DCV adjustment but the rest looks to be working. So APG shrinking is 3 points per level, and 2 levels gives 1/2 height and therefore 1/8 mass. That part was easy enough to do. Still did a double take as I was thrashing out the adjusted height and weight...because 1 level of shrinking means: 71 inches (5'11", pretty average) --> 51 inches. OK, no problem. Square root of 1/2 is .7071, yep. 200 pounds --> 69 pounds (!!) Yep. .7 * .7 * .7 is .343. I knew that, I'd gone through all that in my head. Just seeing it was lik…

Presently, based on previous editions of Hero, Summon and Multiform are based on 1 base point for each 5 character points of the target creature (so a 60 active point summon or multiform gives you 300 points of a character). But with each edition past 4, there's been an increase in point base for each character has gone up, and 6th edition's restructure of characteristics made all characters more expensive even if identical build to previous editions (by around 50 points, depending on how stat-based the character is, in my experience). This means that all characters necessarily are more expensive, including things that you might summon or multiform. …

Is your turn mod based on inches moved or inches expended? IOW, if you are moving vertically, is your turn mod based on how many inches your character moves or how many inches of flight your character has expended, given that it will be different based on if they are moving upwards or downwards (while in a gravity well)

Aid used to have a useful device which allowed the power to have a higher maximum effect than the purchased dice, but that could only be reached by repeated use of the Aid. This allowed for low-start, high potential abilities with a lower active cost (since, after all, you might never even get to that point). I understand in one sense why this was taken away, since any out-of-combat long term Aid ability effectively will always be maxed by the time anything happens. Aid Lass can power up everyone in the group with Bonus OCV that fades 5 points per 6 hours on the flight to the battle in the Quanjet. That effectively negates any potential drawbacks of the Aid…

I know this, but I can't bring it to the forefront of my mind. Can anyone recall where Damage Shield first showed up? Yeah; it seems an odd thing to be bugged about, but I'm working on something and not being able to remember it or find it (and man, that was a _lot_ of looking....) is driving me nuts. Thanks to anyone who can help.

I am in the process of overhauling Longbow. Longbow started out as one of my characters in a friend's campaign. The GM wanted a more dangerous world. Starting BODY was 6 if I recall rightly. This also put a limit of defenses and whatnot. One of the things I did for that reality since Hit Locations were in use, was to take 8 skill levels only for reducing Hit Location Penalties. GM agree and the limitation was set to -1. What I am thinking of now is expanding that so that "aiming for unarmored locations" would in effect also reduce the target's activation roll on their defenses. Thoughts?

I know Density Increase increases Mass. But how would one handle mass Density Decrease? Making a Character lighter and/or having character reduce another's or object's mass?

I'm currently running a 5th edition campaign, and I'm trying to come up with the best way to create a villain who simply cannot be hurt. He can be restrained, he can't move in any special way, nor does he have super strength. He just can't be hurt. Any suggestions?

While I've tried numerous die rolling programs in my nearly 35 years of RPG's, none have been as great as the one included in HD3. Nothing even comes close. I don't recall who the author of that program was although I'm pretty sure it was not Dan Simon. I was wondering if that unnamed genius might consider reworking it as an Android app? I would happily pay several dollars to be able to run that on my Kindle; and every member of my gaming group with a smart phone concurs.

How much do you think a limitation that the character has to have END to use would be worth? I am not talking about a power that actually cost END even to start. The idea I am working on is mainly for a suit of powered armor with numerous abilities that draw miniscule amount of power. I had considered using an END and just having the power cost END, but that ends up requiring the END reserve to be huge with a large recovery or the power don’t last as long as they should. When I do that it means that the other abilities used by the reserve recover much faster than they should. The Cost END to start does not fit because once the power is drained the power should not wo…

Good Day All - First, a Thank You to those who have answered my questions previously. This one seems simple - however I felt it necessary to check as I cannot find a specific example of this circumstance. Knockback on page 166 of the BBB is "real close" - and I have used it in the past as substantiation for my ruling. Game: Champions 4th Ed Subject: Damage from Movement into Solid Object Example 1: A PC is moving at 20" (hexes) per phase and for whatever reason runs directly into a wall. For this example, the wall has Def=12 and Body=12. My understanding is that the PC would take 20d6, one d6 per inch of movement - similar to wh…

I've got a villain who uses darkness powers. One of his powers is to create a nighttime effect, but doesn't blind anyone; it gives the same modifiers as night. I was initially thinking Darkness but that blinds the opponents. Heroes have a -4 PER roll during nighttime and that's what I'm looking for so I'm inclined to go with Change Environment with a large radius. I don't think Images will do. How would you build this?

Howdy Gang! I'm sure this has been asked before, but I can't seem to find it on the boards. Can CSLs at 2pts offset the OCV penalties of Multiple Attack maneuver? For example: If Seeker were fighting 6 thugs and wanted to attack all 6 (a -10 penalty to attack), could he buy CSL: +6 OCV for Multiple Attack (12pts) to bring that down to a -4 OCV?

How would you build a limb that has its own BODY separate from the character's? I.e., so that damage taken to the limb doesn't reduce the character's BODY but instead draws from a separate pool that only applies to the limb in question. The special effect could be a cybernetic arm, alien physiology, nanotech that prevents bleeding and shock, or biokinetic power that limits the affects of damage to the body part struck by an attack. Would a limitation (e.g., partial coverage equivalent) to represent the body part on extra BODY cover it? Does the advantage that damage to the body part will never put the character at zero BODY or kill him or her bal…
