I don't think I could stand watching Joker because he is at the same time dealing with some stuff I deal with, but in a terrifyingly reprehensible way. Namely by extreme, murderous violence. He looks like the sort of guy who would shoot up a church or a school just because he felt like it. That he would do it with style makes it even worse. The reviews I've read indicate that Thomas Wayne (Batman's father) is in the film, portrayed as a real rat. Most of the Joker's victims and potential victims might well be portrayed as "nasty people who had it coming". Not to say Joker will be a bad film in the creative sense. Cassandra Cain fans not so much. Future trailers might do more to flesh out Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya. I certainly hope they do. So fans of those character may eventually be happy. Unfortunately, they have clearly deviated from the comics quite a bit on Cassandra. I have never been a big fan of that character, so it doesn't bother me much. zslane Posted October 2, 2019 Report Share Posted October 2, 2019 IMO, this movie isn't even for Harley Quinn fans since the movie doesn't present a Harley Quinn that any fan of the (comics) character would remotely recognize. It's worse for the other so-called "Birds of Prey" characters. This movie seems aimed squarely at the feminist empowerment crowd, posing Harley as a mistreated gal who washes that "J-man" right out of her hair and takes the reins of her life into her own sociopathic hands. I don't see much evidence that Margot Robbie or Christina Hodson understands the character very well (if at all), and whoever thought it was a good idea to co-opt Barbara Gordon's crime-fighting crew for this garbage should be banned from ever producing another DC movie ever again. As a long time, comic book reading fan of Harley Quinn, I totally recognize the character in the trailer. The "J-man" is a drug that she occasionally relapses into, but in most of her comics, she is her own sociopathic gal. Also, in the comics, she is no stranger to female empowerment storylines. They were a big part of Gotham Sirens and certainly have been common in the Jimmy Palmiotti/Amanda Connor run. Been a couple years since I read her comics, but the Harley they were writing at that point (and I would say when SS came out) is much more self aware and a lot more Dr. Quinzel in there then used to be. As a matter of fact, she takes a job as Dr. Quinzel counseling old folks to help pay bills. It is a different Harley then from the animated series. A much more independent one. I really haven't read many comics after they abandoned the character concepts and went all grunge/murder/blood and babbled about how villains were cool and heroes were just other mentally unstable villains. It verges on painful to read some of the recent "stuff" even if the "art" is actually comic art. But this new HQ is spot on spitting image for a hooker that had a regular spot outside the base back in the mid-80's. I know that a lot of people have bought into the "new" modern comic with all its dark grunge with the concept that everyone is evil including the heroes and murder is OK as long as you meant well. And that is OK. You like what you like. But I personally find it sad that the anime and manga My Hero Academia is more "superhero" than a majority of DC and Marvel.
