Not that the attached is remarkable in any way for its complexity, but a good gritty street type adventure will sometimes require folks getting into, out of, on top of and through subway cars. To wit:

I'm curious what comic/graphic novels people feel capture some of the Hudson City "flavor". I've never been into reading comics having only read DC Comic's "The Watchmen". I'm looking for some suggestions on titles that might serve to get a GM in the Dark Champions/Hudson City mood. I assume Gotham would serve as a good source of inspiration but I have a tough time deciding which comic/graphic novel set in Gotham would cover the less "superhero" aspects of the city just from the listings on DC Comics website. Any suggestions?

The World: Much like our world, December 28th 2004. The streets of New York City, arguably the greatest city on the face of the Earth, possibly the most dangerous as well. Corruption, drugs, crime and vice rule the streets. Violence is the law of the land and the ruthless hold sway, but no more. You will make a difference. You have the power. Either threw dedication, training and an unknown “Gift†you have been handed the power to take back the streets, to protect (or avenge) the innocent and punish the guilty. The authorities might call you Vigilante, perhaps even serial killer, but you know what you are. You are the savior of a new century, a light in the darkness. T…

Hudson City Knights Hudson City, the pearl city, the big sleazy, sin by the sea. Never the nicest place to live it was cosmopolitan in a way like nowhere else. Truly if you could make it there you could make it anywhere. But as of late the Pearl City has become still more tarnished this time by forces far odder than organized crime or street gangs that plague its streets. A new breed of criminal has emerged. Cunning, ruthless and extreme, these criminals are obsessed with a certain variety of crime or a theme. They wear costumes, employ gimmicks and henchmen and can be singularly ruthless in pursuing their insane agendas. A wave of costumed madmen now plague the city…

I'm looking at building a character that uses TK to mimic other superpower flavors (i.e. might pose as a gravity or magnetism based superhero). Each 'scene' he might be posing as a different superhero (one that isn't known to already exist) themed on different sfx. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble figuring out how to do this in a 'low-powered superhero' game (150 base pts+ 100 pts of disads). So far, all I've managed to come up with is either a huge VPP, or TK with the variable sfx advantage. Any ideas/thoughts?

Harrington Center is a multi-use building owned by the county government, and can be rented or used for such activities as concerts, plays, presentations, graduation ceremonies, dances, and wedding receptions. Originally built in 1985, the facility received a major expansion and facelift in 2004. It features a fully equipped stage, an excellent kitchen, and union trained staff. The facility can seat 850 for shows; fewer for banquets and dances. Average size for most activities at Harrington Center is about 400 guests. Removable tables and chairs are stored in the basement of the building; two sets of stairs and a freight elevator facilitate moving these and other ite…

In the time she's been active, Batgirl's usual foes have been regular street criminals. She has, however, also faced a few costumed criminals. They are: Adonis, Anagram, and Facet, all from Dark Champions: The Animated Series, and the Jester and his female partner, Harlequin. The Jester and Harlequin always work as a team and dress in jester's motley (the kind of costume court jesters wear). Both are skilled jugglers, acrobats, and clowns and sometimes ride unicycles. They employ non-lethal attacks, like entangles, laughing or sleep gas, causing temporary blindness, or knocking someone out with their jester's maces.

I'm posting to plug The Winter Men, an 8 issue mini-series by Wildstorm that's first issue just shipped this week. The premise of the series is that all the former Soviet Super Soldiers are working as cops, gangsters and bodyguards in modern Russia. In addition to an interesting high-concept idea, the first issue had strong writing and a setting that just dripped of atmosphere and little bits of information about modern day Russia. I don't know how accurate the depictions is but I can say that the Russia it depicts would be a fascinating place to take a group of DC characters or to hold a complete DC campaign. Check it out!

So I’d like to run a scenario in the burned out and abandoned parts of Detroit. The idea is a feral hunter/serial killer that’s been taking out bums, teenagers and now cops within a specific area of abandoned warehouses. Now the hero’s have to go in and put a stop to this thing on its own turf. I’d like to set up a Gotham type feel with the heroes scouring the seedy underside of the city. Here’s the problem… I’m from Denver, CO. Butterflies and pretty mountains. Does anyone know where I can get my hands on a suitable map to represent this rundown, beat up nightmare piece of the city? Anyone have something like this? Or even a map of the wastes of Detroit.…

1) The campaign is set in the Champions Universe. 2) We're using the Dark Champions: The Animated Series rules. 3) The campaign takes place between the first and second animated serieses. Basically, After a falling out with Bruce, Dick gave up being Robin and left. Batgirl, Barbara Gordon, is now Batman's regular partner. 4) Gotham County is the southern half of Ocean County, New Jersey. 5) Gotham City, the county seat, is on Little Egg Harbor. 6) The closest lighthouse to Gotham City is at Beach Haven Inlet. Thanks to grants from the Wayne Foundation, it was rebuilt. The old first and second assistant keepers' house is now a maritime museum. The old princi…

Hi folks, I just bought Dark Champions and Hudson City off of Ebay and am looking forward to putting together a campaign. I was just wondering if those of you who already have experience running and/or playing in the Dark Champions setting could share some of your game experiences with me (and the rest of the forum members, too! ). I'm also interested in hearing what things you enjoy or don't enjoy about the setting, what challenges GM's have had and how they dealt with them, etc. Hearing from y'all will help me to get my creative juices flowing while I wait for my books to arrive. Thanks a bunch!

Inspired by svereal media things (The .hack//SIGN TV series, the Batman: TAS episode "What is Reality?", and a comment on one of the webcomic mailing lists i read) I've been pondering the idea of someone dveeloping an innovative system for nerual interfaces with MMORPGs. The trial game sel,ls gazillions of copies and becomes immensely popular. But there's a catch -- the designer of the game has sought out specific players and set a trap for them. One day, they enter the game, play their stuff, try to log out -- and can't. The players, a group of disparate people from all over the world, are stuck in the world of the game until the BBG is willing to let them back into…

I'm building a character for a player who'sa Hero Newbie (and since buying 5th edition, I feel like one myself). We've got a very cinematic, almost Anime thing goin (think Equilibrium or The Matrix). His thing is his matched Desert Eagles. I'm going with Double Tap and Quick Fire, thinking that his ability stems from beingable to fight two handed. Since he's paying points for it, I'm thinking this is really just FX and not having to pay the points for Two Weapon Fighting, or anything to support that. Though I may throw in Ambidexterity. Thoughts?

This is a companion thread to the "Batman: The Animated Adventures" thread. The team Batman and Batgirl are forming to help protect Gotham are going to use a safehouse/auxiliary Batcave as their lair. The safehouse is an old four-bedroom, two story Victorian with a full basement and attic that's connected, through a basement tunnel, to the old church next door. Bruce obtained both, through whatever means he does, and converted an abandoned subway tunnel into an auxiliary Batcave. It has a lab, a shop, computers, a library/meeting room and a trophy room. The Victorian's usual residents are the DOSPA, Homeland Security, and PRIMUS liaisons and the team's doctor, nurs…

As my injury has prevented me from pursuing my crusade against the criminal element of the city, I have no choice but to recruit a team of operatives to fight for me. Kenji, a student of my old sensei, inspired this as such he will be on the team, He has taken the ops name of Shinobi. I worry about his morality as he has little problem with killing his opponents, but hopefully his honor will keep him in check. He brings Espianage and close combat skills to the team Foxy: She has been my partnet for 12 years, and while she has left for college, with my injuries she has insisted on returning to the city of shadows. I regret that she will not finish her educat…

Similar to FIfth Edition TAS, but with the cartoon like aspects dropped. The game is dark, violent and gritty even though it includes powers. The character are generally more vigilante in outlook and method, but with a few street level idealists. Powers are more subdued than full blown Champions though. Metahumans are a threat to the police and on a small unit level at their most powerful but won't be taking over the world or anything.

I believe that one can use Power Frameworks more frequently in DC. EC, MP, VPP can be used to 'buy' the following, without causing the Game Master to go insane: 1. Super-skills 2. 'Package' deals 3. Equipment Packages. Superskills would work nicely in a VPP, in particular. I was thinking that a 'Pretender' type character might be more plausible/possible with the this scheme in mind. In DC, they showed how an MP can be used to buy what essentially is a Police Officer's gear. MPs could be used to buy commando style gear as well. EC could be used to buy 'super social skills'. Imagine the politician that has all of the necessary skills to really in…
