I'm trying to create a new character for a Dark Champions campaign; and I've decided it would be intriguing to play a mystic character who is a Roman Catholic priest and Jesuit. Now whipping up a few magical-type combat spells is easy; what I'm having trouble with is determining what kind of "holy" powers such a character might also possess? What kind of (literally) God-given abilities to combat supernatural evil might a holy warrior/priest wield in such a campaign? Ideas?

Hi, I have never actually played Hero before, but I have Dark Champions and Hero Revised. I have read most of the rules, but I have a couple of questions. The first one must seem very basic and silly to people who know the game more than me, but I'm still not sure on this. What do I roll when it says, for example, 4 1/2 D6? Do I roll 4d6 and divide by 2 or something? The second question is a bit more complicated. Firearms in Hero are treated as a Ranged Killing Attack, right? But the maximum range of firearms, is that Active Cost times 5''? This seems a bit silly to me. Here is an axample: Barrett Model 82A1, which fires .50 caliber rounds have an acti…

I recently helped a friend put together a Dark Champions character, and I was struck by how a couple of the superskills worked in combination, namely "Disappearing Act" and "Ultimate Stealth" as an example. As long as the character can keep making Stealth rolls, she can zip around the battlemat area like a phantom with the vanishing teleport of "Disappearing Act" since the invisibility provided by "Ultimate Stealth" means no one can see her, which is very movie ninja-like. Has anyone else come across any combinations of abilities which are pretty potent? I thought a thread on such and their uses might be helpful to others.

Writer Anthony Zuiker never in his dreams imagined that when he created a police drama about a team of forensic detectives, he was tapping into a previously untapped part of the American consciousness. Crime dramas and detective stories have always been part of American fiction, but only a handful of stories have truly focused on the scientific part of policework. CSI:Crime Scene Investigation debuted on CBS in 2000, and quickly swept the nation as the next great American television series. A big part of the success of the show can be attributed to film star William Petersen's portrayal of the enigmatic Gil Grissom, the reclusive and brillant night-shift supervisor of Las…

I was just watching a DaVinchi code thing on the history channel (jusus was married, had a daughter, church cover up for 2k years, knight templar, etc...) and it got me thinking, this could be a really cool modern/dark cahmpions idea...the last of the 'blood royal' (jesus' line) today, hunted by dark forces, has uncontrolable power (but maifest for 'good' deeds only) and doesn't realize who she/he is !! our dark champions characters stumble into this 2000 year drama and get stuck in the middle....dark forces on one side want to kill the decendant, and so do the church(s) to keep the truth buried and the world in general hasn't a clue !!! a bit sacriligious sure, bu…

Hi all, First off while I know Hudson City is complete I have to add a small begging on my kneees moment please Steve please tell me you kept in Jack!! That done on with my post. Alright, I'm planning to run Hudson City Blues for a group of first timers of the system/genre. I would like to run superheroic (points buy everything) rahter than heroic as a dissuasion to gun bunnies which ruled the roost last time I ran. I'm thinking 225 points inclusive of 150pts disadvantages. Can anyone make recommendations to other limits. (I'm thinking spd 4, 50 active points in offense, no more than 8 resistant def, no superpowers/maybe minor). Also i have a playe…

An NPC in my IST Campaign is a U.N. field agent with a lot of experience doing black-bag jobs. Is the cat burglar template in the DC book the right one for her?

Just a question... If the default for pistol round damage was considered to have "reduced penetration"... what might be the downside in a "game mechanic" arena. Some caveats... I don't want to get into a discussion of all the different real world types of ammunition... nor discussions on "bullets do damage based on what they hit in the body..." or any of that. I'm simply looking at the fact that... 1) I want to avoid escalating damage and armor defenses that seems to happen when attempting to differentiate between pistols and rifles rounds in terms of damage/lethality to human like targets. 2) I like to keep things as simple as possible... no charts or …

A question for the gun gurus out there

Many years ago, while reading through some of my uncle's gun magazines, I came across an article about a weapon which, at that time, was being con- sidered for police use. At first glance, it looked like a pump-action shotgun, but upon reading the article found out that it was actually a pump-action carbine chambered for the .357 Magnum cartridge, with (IIRC) a 10- round capacity. Unfortunately, I don't remember what the name of the gun was or who manufactured it. What I'd like to ask is this: is there anyone who knows what this gun was called, or even if it's being manufactured at all? Major Tom

After reading the Dark Champions book, I pulled out some of my old supplements from other games that I've never had the opportunity to fully use. They include things like GURPS Illuminati, Suppressed Transmissions 1, Suppressed Transmissions 2, GDW's Dark Conspiracy book, a host of Call of Cthulhu supplements, and others. Then I got involved with some discussions on RPG.net regarding the new World of Darkness book (which seems to focus on the same area) and C. J. Carella's Witchcraft (which can be found for free in PDF format). I feel a part of my brain that cries out to run the Weird Conspiracy Hero game that I've never had an opportunity to run (since many of my players…

Anyone likely to play in the game, don't read this thread. You know who you are, and so do I, and there will be penalties You Have Been Warned. I have been toying with the idea of running a Dark Champions game (or several, though probably not a full campaign) in the Galactic Champions time period. The characters would be built on DC guidelines or a little tougher, and deal with the criminal element in the 31st Century. This means that we might have a DC group with disintegrators. However, much as I might like to run it, I am completely at a loss for plot seeds. Please assist me in this. The type of game I'm leaning toward is a 31st Century techno-thri…

Okay, my friend was watching poker on TV. I normally don't think of that as a spectator sport, but whatever. They start talking about one of the players, named Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, and cut to a video short to demonstrate a talent of his. He throws cards, and he throws them about 70 MPH. He throws them so fast and so well, he can use them like throwing knives. I'm not kidding. As we watched, he threw them straight threw a banana, choping it in half with one hit. Then he did a carrot. With bona fide normal playing cards. Granted, fruits and vegetables aren't the toughest items in the kitchen, but I was still impressed. Even if they couldn't cut through meat and b…

I'm looking for information (like a chart) on the organization of a large, urban police department - including support staff. I'm also looking for a map of a large, urban police headquarters. Anybody have a clue where to find this stuff? My initial google searches have not been successful.

Just wanted to let the DH playtesters/testreaders know that Hudson City is now available in the usual place. Looking forward to hearing your comments! Please note that I will be in London from Dec. 2-8, and thus unlikely to have much (if any) opportunity to check the playtest board, much less answer questions, so don't worry if you don't hear anything from me for a while. If you have any questions/comments, please post 'em in the "Company Questions" thread of the same title.

Thsi weekend I goit to watch a whole bunch of new anime at a friend's hosue, and one of the new series I saw was GetBackers -- which seemed to me like it might be prime DC fodder. On the other hand, many of the important characters have superpowers, so I'm wondering how it would work. The heroes of the series, Genji and Ban, are 'retrival specialists" who use their natural ability and minor-league superpowers to retrive lost and stolen items. The powers do not seem intuitively the sort of powers that would be most useful for this kind of work: Genji is a human 'electric eel" who generates electricity from his body and can perform a variety of effects with it, while B…

I was down at the local County Sheriff's office yesterday and they had a SWAT team display. Part of the display was dedicated to a different type of SPEC OPS police unit. This unit was designated a T.R.U. or Tactical Rescue Unit. These men and women are trained to Special Forces proficiency in high risk rescue techniques. They specialize in EMT under fire, High Mountain Rescue, Acrtic Water Rescue, Avalanche Recovery, and other types of high danger emergency services. So here is the challenge.... I thought it would be interesting to see what types of teams, characters, equipment, vehicles, headqaurters, etc, the board could come up with....for a Hero TRU. Ok…
