I have noted in several games that I have played in that the trend is to make agents more powerful and thereby more of a challenge to the Heroes. However it seems to be going too far. For instance I have a character with a multi-power, three of the slots are as follows. 12d6 EB (60 Active Points) 8d6 EB, explosion (60 Active Points) 6d6 EB, 6"AE radius (60 Active Points) The first attack overkills agents. The second generally only takes out the one in the hex of impact. Any who are more than a hex or two away usually shrug it off. The third attack usually fails to drop even a single agent. Not much point in this... its just a gripe.

I've got a criminal agency in the new GGU that is to mentalists as Genocide is to mutants in the CU. I just need a name, and am coming up very, very dry. Anyone have any good ideas?

Hey guys... I am posting a URL for a web site I set up for my game. The concept for the world is the characters are part of Storm Watch, a U.N. super team (no relation to the comic other than the name). The idea is they are accessing the super computer that is part of UNTIL and UNSOC. Check it out. Tell me what you think. http://worldobserver.rpgmainframe.com Later, Jonathan

Today's fun little exercise: I've an idea for character who can draw an image (using whatever materials are available) and then use that image to generate various effects like: Summon (bringing an image to life) Teleport or desolid (drawing a door or hole in a wall) Extradimensional travel (jumping into a picture -- remember Mary Poppins and the chalk drawings?) various attacks (drawing and animating weapons, etc.) entangles (portable hole anyone?) ... you get the idea. I want to include the "Delayed Effect" advantage, along with the requisite focus limitations, but I'm not quite sure how to handle the tricky part of the power. I want to place a…

In an earlier post someone asked about players favorite psychological limitations. What about physical?? Most players don't like the idea of being "disabled". But here are some I have had success with; Color Blind (for those who change into animals) Hands can't do fine work (thick fingers, or no fingers) Quadraped (hands can't do any work but help walk) Leaves body behind (Astral Projection) Diabetic ( the occasional problems not covered by Dependent on Insulin, Susceptible to sugar) Amnesia (has black-outs) [good for those with HF] One of these days I have to try out; HIV+ (requires testing and safe sex) Schizophrenia (de…

Too Many Heroes? November 9, 2003 By Dallas Kingsly Eat your heart out New York. With no less than four confirmed super hero teams, the Big Apple has been long considered the dominant city when it comes to super hero population. Chicago and San Francisco have been the long term contenders, but suddenly there's a new kid in town gaining fast. The latest public reports released from the Department of Superhuman and Paranormal Affairs indicate that Millennium City may soon take top spot in sheer number of super heroes even if not organized teams. The Champions first come to mind when most think of the City of the Future. They've been here pretty much si…

Whamme Whamme recently raised how concerned one of his characters would be if there were no crime - after all, fighting crime is his life, as WW put it. Lemming is very fond of the Tick quote about not being here to stop crime but to fight crime. Others have said similar. But WW's last post got me thinking...how many superheroes NEED crime? How many would be in a mental institution or otherwise dysfunctional or just plain unhappy if crime went away? Probably a fair number. Some are repeating an event over and over in their minds, replaying it however tangentially or surrealistically, in the manner some writers portray Batman, needing to fight crime over and over. S…

I was reading another post and thought: how would I design a character (let's say a light brick, 40 strength minimum, a CV of around 5-6) who would be able to absorb tremendous amounts of punishment from a wide array of attacks? And then I thought: there're probably people on these boards who've already done just this. Well, have you? Or will you?

Ok, This is a problem I have always had. GM: Hmm need to create the villians base. no problem lets see.. where to locate it. It would have to be someplace that the agents can come and go with out causing to much attention, and be fairly large. How about.. in a warehouse.. nahh done to much.. (hours later) Hmmm.... (Still later) Ok..so the base is in an old warehouse. So...where else can the bad guys locate thier evil little base? I

The cloning of established supers thread made me think...not just who do you clone as a rule, but more specifically, out of notable NPCs or PCs who are based, however loosely, on established characters, how did you change them, at least in those cases where you did tweak them? For my current campaign, here's a few: Red Amazon - very briefly, as I've mentioned her before, she was basically a Bob Burden villain for Flaming Carrot (originally the non-Politically Correct "Red Dyke"), rather stereotypical Russian commie brick/weapon villain, I made her a noble warrior, now estranged from her changed homeland (but still a rather active lesbian) Punisher - former …

I have one major disappointment with this book, but it's based on an unrealistic hope and I'll deal with the disappointment below. In general, I think it is a very good basis for a mini-campaign and I intend to use it as such. Adapting it to my own universe is taking a little work, but the result will, I think, be worth it. One lesser disappointment is the identity of the master villain. I think it might have been more effective if the master villain was one of the established villains of the universe. After all, the whole book consists of interactions with many of the major players in the Champions Universe. It's a major buildup, and all of a sudden you are facing…

Ok, there was some confusion during my last Girl Fight poll. Also, some of the contenders really shouldn't have been on the list. Plus, I really did go low brow with the humor and disrespect the genera with the whole "Foxy Boxing" bit. So here are the new brackets. The idea is each hero/villain has to fight with no weapons and no gadgets. They do, however, have full knowledge of their opponents' fighting style, and any other information the characters might have due to their various character backgrounds. This is to be a "fair fight." Assume the combat will be held in some type of ring, with Wonder Woman as the referee and judge. Once the "Non-Superpowered …

Since I began posting here somewhat regularly, I've seen three mentions of people with characters named Spectrum: myself, Spectrum, and Lemming. Anyone else? We could have a clubhouse and a crime computer and stuff.

I would like it if my players who chose to play a strait human got 75 points in disads for the package deal, Currently they get 70 20 NCM 20 2x Mental Effects (Common) 30 2 x Stun Particle Weapons/Blasters Now, some other limits they have on the type of powers they can have: No inate powers (exept Magic) No Super Skills (Invisibility as Super Stealth) no Skill rolls over 18- Magic must be heavily limited (-1 in Lims as a base MINIMUM) None of the above Disads can be bought off However none of these strike me as a disad worthy of points Any ideas?

All the talk of Cap's tactics and Bat's deduction has me wondering. I've never made (nor tried to make) a character with a 20- on a particular skill. Now I'm wondering if that wouldn't be fun just for a lark. I'm sure others of you have though, and want to know how it went. What skill did you have in the 'oh my gawd!' levels, for what character, and how did it work out in game play if ever? Bribery 20- "Gravitar, give up the world conquest and I'll give you this neato wheat penny!"

Okay, assuming the Powered Armor is the sort that can be used by anyone with a little practice, and, again assuming, that most villains spend some time in Stronghold or jail... What happens to the Power armor that some of them were wearing? It's unlikely it would be easy to get back after all. And, well, why doesn't the CU United States (and other nations) Govt have a whole NPC team of Powered Armor Agents, each in different suits that once belonged to villains? For that matter, some super heroes are ..uhm bold enough to strip a villain of his armor, and then keep it as a momento. What's to keep them from handing it off to Johny NPC and go "Here, welc…

Human Limits 1 2

After the Avengers vs JLA & Bats vs Caps threads, I see my interpretation of human limits differs from alot folks out there. This is not aimed at anyone and is in no way intended to offend. I tend to agree with D-man on anything over a 20 is superhuman, and needs an explanation. Figured characteristics is somewhat more diffiecult to explain. I can see how PD/ED could go to 10 (non resistant), but not beyond that. Recovery 10. Stun & End I would say 40 (again for stickly non-superpowered characters). Speed is the killer here. I cannot see a non-superpowered character having a speed greater then 5. Just curious on how everyone else handles this in their campagins/ga…

Hey All, Here's one for you. Of late we've had the interminable Batman vs Cappy thing going on (which is bizarre cause Cappy would so win) and now Batman vs Daredevil and then there was Taskmaster and Karate Kid and the best MA of all, and Superman vs everyone including, seemingly, Santa and the Easter Bunny. Ah, the memeories. But that stuff is all small potatoes. That's for kids. Now it's time for some serious main event stuff: Darkseid vs Thanos. Two equivalent characters, mirrror images, but which one really is the real deal. Both incredibly powerful, basically invulnerable and cosmically powerful. Who would win? I await your reply. Vigil […

Introductory Adventure
by Guest TheAuthority- 9 replies

I'm about to start GMing my first Champions campaign and am looking for a little brainstorming for my first adventure. Here are some quick background details for the campaign: 1. There will be 4 PC's and (maybe) 1 NPC at 350 pts to start. 2. The campaign will be set in the Champions Universe out of Millennium City. 3. I will be running Battlegrounds, Shades of Black, and Return of the Destroyer at some point. 4. I can alter anything in the CU to fit my needs. So here's my idea for the introductory adventure where the PCs, who have only been in the biz for 6-12 months, meet and, hopefully, decide to team-up for the rest of the campaign: One morning o…
