Thsi weekend I goit to watch a whole bunch of new anime at a friend's hosue, and one of the new series I saw was GetBackers -- which seemed to me like it might be prime DC fodder. On the other hand, many of the important characters have superpowers, so I'm wondering how it would work. The heroes of the series, Genji and Ban, are 'retrival specialists" who use their natural ability and minor-league superpowers to retrive lost and stolen items. The powers do not seem intuitively the sort of powers that would be most useful for this kind of work: Genji is a human 'electric eel" who generates electricity from his body and can perform a variety of effects with it, while B…

I was down at the local County Sheriff's office yesterday and they had a SWAT team display. Part of the display was dedicated to a different type of SPEC OPS police unit. This unit was designated a T.R.U. or Tactical Rescue Unit. These men and women are trained to Special Forces proficiency in high risk rescue techniques. They specialize in EMT under fire, High Mountain Rescue, Acrtic Water Rescue, Avalanche Recovery, and other types of high danger emergency services. So here is the challenge.... I thought it would be interesting to see what types of teams, characters, equipment, vehicles, headqaurters, etc, the board could come up with....for a Hero TRU. Ok…

That's right, folx -- it's time for another customer input thread! This time on deck: Hudson City: The Urban Abyss. NOTE: Before you post a recommendation, comment, or question, please read the outline I've posted below. It's not ultra-detailed, but it explains the basic contents of the book. It's a waste of your time and mine for you to suggest things that are clearly already intended as part of the book. You might also want to read the posts already made, so you don't waste your time duplicating something already said. So, anyhow... HC:TUA is our first setting book for Dark Champions. Like MC and VB, it's a city book, but slanted toward the darker, g…

I was wondering if there were any plans to include in some book something similar to the wonderful section on the law, the US constitution, government and superheroes, and other such elements that appeared in the old version of Dark Champions. I really found myself missing that section, even as a Canadian player when much of the material was on the American constitution, when going through the new DC book. DC: TAS doesn't seem like the book to cover it, so I'm assuming it won't show up there.

Hey guys, I'm getting started on DARK CHAMPIONS: THE ANIMATED SERIES (DC: TAS, from here on out) and this is the traditional "What Do You Want To See" Thread. First a little about the book.... The book has two goals. First, to serve as a sub-genre book that covers two types of Dark Champions campaigns. (1) Non-superpowered heroes who have, to some extent, a four-color comic book attitude toward their vigilante activities (for instance, PCs with a Code Versus Killing). (2) Low-point superpowered heroes, aka street-level superheroes, like Daredevil and Spider-Man (the early years more so than lately -- back when Spider-Man fought the Kingpin, the Owl, Silverm…

I was watching Indiana Jones the other day, and they used the old schtick where there are 3 or 4 goons coming at the hero in a line, he shoots, and the bullet goes through all of them (must've been full metal jacket with a good size callibur). Is there anyway to do this in Hero terms?

Hi all, first post here. I just recently started playing HERO about 2 weeks ago with my gaming group. They had been playing for a few weeks, and I had just been watching, and then finally decided to join in. I built a character based on the character Christian Bale played in Equilibrium, with the exception he used rifles as his primary weapon. Originally I wanted to built my own multi-fire gun using the powers rules, but our GM decided against it, and recommended I buy a standard gun from dark champions. So I did. All the skills I chose were pretty straight forward. Most focused on marksmanship and increasing my OCV and damage. All in all I ended up with ar…

The Game I'm starting an solo-espionage game with some pulp undercurrents for my wife. It will center around the adventures of a female Mossad agent who works for the Mossad's special operations division, also known as Metzada (spelled "Masada" by Anglos). Metzada specializes in assassination, sabotage, and psychological warfare operations. It is intended to globe-trot and get pulpy from time to time (most likely with some occult or weird science issues comming into play). The character she envisioned is one part James Bond, one part Chow Yun Fat, and one part Lara Croft. She's a fan of the TV show Alias (we don't own a TV, but she rented all of them a…

Back in 1983ish, I was co-running "Espionage", and the organization for the spies was UNION. UNION stands for United Nations Intelligence Operatives Network. Started secretly by members of the UN Security Council, they started with ex-spies from trusted orgs (CIA, MI-5, etc.) and then recruited or blackmailed others into the organization. Of the six player agents, AJ Parker and Dr. Frank Garrison and Rene Baptiste LeClerc were recruited; Axamander Tobias Teach and Ivan Raverhaben were blackmailed. Espionage was 50 Base plus up to 50 in Disads. I have converted the six characters to 5E, and kept them at the 50/50 level (but including their earned experience points).

My Girlfriend got sucked into a fit of nostalgia gaming perpetrated by yours truly. We played some Top Secret, 1st Edition with some of the Dragon Magazine Article ideas, and ran through Sprechenhaltzie (Sp?????). She had a blast playing that game. She was the recovery expert, but due to the random rolls, she was a better fighter than the assassin, a better diplomat than the "face", and a superb infiltrator. She wants to keep playing the character and is not adverse in any way shape or form to switching it to Hero. The conversion will be by "feel" of the character, not hard fast numbers. My question. Will my life become one with small birds singing me littl…

I had another Bat-ty campaign idea yesterday. It's a Dark Champions: The Animated Series campaign set in a DC Elseworlds universe that draws some things from the CU and some from my own head. Batman (Bruce Wayne) is easier to get along with in this universe than he is in the mainstream DC Universe. There is no Wayne Manor. Instead, Bruce lives in the penthouse apartment of a Gotham City hotel/casino Wayne Enterprises owns. Alfred is his butler. The Batmobile looks like a Chevy Corvette, but is armored and has an extensive sensor suite and other high-tech gear. Batman keeps in close contact with Warder, heiress Lisa Ward, and she created a gateway linking her f…

Yeah, I know... "You are not put on this Earth to get it, Mr. Logue." So, powers are generally out of the question in a strict Dark Champions setting? But costumes are okay? Batman is okay? Punisher? Taskmaster? Shadow? Cyborg? If you add powers into a Dark Champions settings it becomes DC:TAS and not Champions? what's the difference between DC:TAS and Champions? Impart thy wisdom upon mine doofus head. Richard Logue

As I was reading the section of DC on Resource pools, it made me think of the movie Falling Down and how the main character basically assembles his kit and arsenal over the course of a VERY BAD DAY... anyone else consider the idea of doing a one-shot type of game like this movie- one or two charcters just trying to make it home from a real bad day while trying to also survive the urban city at the same time?

Ok, now that the initial gushing over DC seems to have died down (and I admit it is a pretty good book even if I didn't get everything I wanted from it) how about some discussion of the combat section. For me some parts are very nice to see but unfortunately there are also several parts I disliked. I like many of the manuevers and optional rules, some I will use as written others give me some good ideas. I like grace under fire, CQB and Piercing in particular. Some were also amusing such as the firing the gun sideways, no game value to me but it made me smile and I understand why its there. Others I don't particularly agree with the execution but it gives me ideas…

I was browsing through CKC, and I noticed a few villains in there that would be pretty good for use in Dark Champions after some tweaking: Warbird and Warpath from the Warlord's team; Scorpia and Ultrasonique from Eurostar; Bluejay from GRAB; Binder from the Ultimates; Black Harlequin; Blowtorch; Fenris; Foxbat; Lazer; Masquerade; Mirage; Shadowdragon; Thunderbird; Utility. Has anyone used these villains in Dark Champions campaigns? How did they work out? Most of them look like they'd be fine with only a reduction in DEX, SPD, and defenses.
