Ok, I am trying to figure out if I should buy this book, honestly. I have not seen it. One- I am leary of the Genre books in general, having found only one (Fantasy Hero) to have been of use, so far. Champions Genre book- biggest waste of money I've spent on a Hero book. Star Hero- Eh, not interested. But the FH Genre book was VERY good, IMHO So, is DC like FH? I am interested in the modern setting and loved Danger Int when it was out. I do have some knowledge of spies, investigations, low level supers, etc. So if all it does is cover the genre (like Champions) then I have ZERO interest. On the other hand, if it does MORE like Fantasy Hero, then I think I would like it…

Hi gang, As we have become embroiled in another non-hero campaign run by another player, I must look to the future. Once upon a time we used to run a halloween game. With that in mind, I'm thinking a Dark Champions level Monster Squad game might be interesting for a 1 or 2-shot session between games around All-Hallow's Eve. In order to keep it from becoming a typical zomibe and vampire bash, does anyone have fitting suggestions for DC level monster foes? Who know, it may degenerate into a simple monster bash, but it depends on what foes I can come up with. For a setting, I'm thinking either an abandoned Asylum, Prison, or maybe even a school (so I can th…

Sorry about the cross post. Character background: *Shunk!* 8 inches of razor edged steel sank into the supine man’s back, pinning him to the restaurant floor like a butterfly to a collection pan. He twitched once, gurgled and lay still. Aiko rose smoothly unsheathing her katana from flesh with one sharp jerk. Stillness surrounded her, silence and blood, her two lifelong companions. The riot of battle, rising a fever pitch then ending a sudden, dreadful silence. It was almost like sex but slightly messier. She smirked, a crimson trickle running down her cheek like a tear. Yes, empty, quick and unsatisfying, she thought, looking over remains of her attackers…

Baron Samedi stared out of the floor-to-ceiling windows at the rain, pouring from the sky onto his city. His city. The thought always made him grin like a schoolboy just out on summer break. Behind him, the reports droned on and on. He listened, but didn't actually care. Hardy would fill in anything that the Baron missed later on. One of the many reasons the hardcases gathered around the table behind him were always nice and polite to the bookish, nerdish Hardy. Hardy had the ear of the Baron, and in this town that meant he had the ear of the only power that mattered. "... and he agreed to give us 60% of his take. Seein' how he's new to the city and don't…

Just curious. I am sure that I will be buying Dark Champions 5th edition soon; but I actually have the old version of DC from years ago. What's new? Is it a totally revamped book? All new characters? Just curious as I live in the middle of nowhere rpg shopping wise and no one here has a copy I can look at; so I have to order all of my books online sight unseen. Thanks

As usual, I see no reason not to draw on the collective knowledge of Herodom Assembled to save myself time and effort. So: What sort of guns, gun technology, and ammunition would those of you who are interested in the subject like to see in the new Dark Champions? What nifty and intriguing new guns are floating around out there that the book ought to include? What sorts of gun modifications and add-ons have you heard about that you think are worth mentioning? Have you heard about any new types of bullets that the book should have game stats for? Let me know!

G'day Now as you may have read in another thread, I am planning to start up an espionage campaign set in 1979, with the PCs working their way up to "00" rank in the British Secret Service. The premise of the campaign is that the SIS (MI6) has been going through a bad patch of scandals and lack of success, and that Margaret Thatcher has appointed Sir James Bond the new M with a brief to rebuild the Service. So we suppose that Bond hands over SIGINT to GCHQ, and makes a radical return to HUMINT. We also suppose that he recruits a lot of new people from sources that the KGB will not have thought to infilitrate. This is going to have to involve recruiting people of …

I'm making a character who's alter-ego is a fantasy/sci-fi writer who's worked mainly in writing novels and short-stories for publishers of open-ended fantasy continuities. He's recently published his first Best Seller, it's a story and a setting of his own. His heroic identity is a 7 to 9 ft. tall (haven't decided that yet either) humanoid Dragon. He is the heir to a long lineage of protectors who bear the mark of the dragon upon their souls. The story goes: In the time before time, in the age of myths and legends, there were great wars being fought between gods, mythic beasts and mighty wizards (etc)... to protect the mortal flock from the collateral effects o…

G'day I am planning to start up a new campaign for agents of Her Majesty's Secret Service, in the spirit of the James Bond novels by Ian Fleming (as distinguished from the films from EON productions on one hand and the Smiley novels by John Le Carré on the other). The premise is that James Bond was born in 1918, retired from field work in 1963 and with a KCMG, and was recalled to take the post of M in about 1978. Sir James is on a commission to reorganise and rebuild the secret service after a time of perceived ineffectiveness or failure. The PCs will be new agents, recruited from outside the intelligence community, to as part of a 'clean start' rebuild of the …

I'm not entirely certain I've been able to reconcile what I would classify as a "Dark Champions" campaign. I've read steve's notice regarding this forum and I've purchased a couple of supplements for scavenging purposes (as is my nature). But I've never purchased the original D.C. supplement. So I ask you to tell me about your Dark Champions Campiagns. (RDUNeil's is well known lore in the Champions Forum). What have you all done for DC campaings?

Hi long time fan off the old Dark Champions RPG, which in my mind was and is a very good setting and game I can't wait for the new DC 5th version. I see that Harbinger is back since he is one the cover, that's good he was star character of the DC world. But I would like my Artemis to be one as well. She is a physically trained female viglante, Artemis as her name say is a hunter at heart her prey are the scum and criminals of Hudson City. I need your help?,

Is their much material in the book covering such stuff as the X Files or games such as Conspiracy X or Dark Matter? Okay, any ideas on just how one could use Dark Champions in the Champions Universe 'present day' (i.e., when all the metahumans are running around), aside from the whole masked vigilante sub-genre? Myself, I'd like to do something like a 'parallel campaign' in which regular PCs at times play a group of MARS cops or PRIMUS/UNTIL agents who clean up the messes the heroes either don't know about or can't be bothered with. Think like Harry Turtledove's two viewpoint characters in 'Guns of the South' -- General Lee on the high end and a regular trooper at the bottom, both viewing the same event but from very different viewpoints.

Steve has asked us not to discuss the name in the what do you want to see thread. Fine. I did make one comment that I hope was at least a little helpful and not ment to get a debate going. It has now however sprong two comments, so I am starting this thread to have a sounding board for people who disagree with the name. Steve has commented that there are a number of reasons for the name, the only two I have heard however are: I like it (He is the owner it is his right) Name recognition: I find this one to be weak as it is a different beast entirely I would recomend that the book be called Modern Hero (Keeps the pattern), then Dark Champions be used fo…

I noticed that this US Coast Guard weapon is not listed in the Dark Champions playtest manuscript. (Actually I think the Coast Guard is merely evaluating it). It it one of the standard issue weapons I am thinking about for my next DC game. The campaign will feature some monster hunts, so a weapon with knock down power is a big plus. Anybody care to take a stab at building this weapon for Hero System? A .50-calibur assault rifle! EDIT: This may be of use it is a link to the Ammunition Specifications for the gun.

I just have to say it: Storn, you've outdone yourself. The cover for Dark Champions is incredible. Awesome work. The subdued colors, the clean lines, the dramatic pose... it's just great. There is enough detail in the central character to invite further study (just what are all those things hanging from his belt, for instance), and yet the composition is clean and striking. Perhaps one of the best pieces we've ever seen from Hero Games. Wonderful! -- Scott
