G'day Now as you may have read in another thread, I am planning to start up an espionage campaign set in 1979, with the PCs working their way up to "00" rank in the British Secret Service. The premise of the campaign is that the SIS (MI6) has been going through a bad patch of scandals and lack of success, and that Margaret Thatcher has appointed Sir James Bond the new M with a brief to rebuild the Service. So we suppose that Bond hands over SIGINT to GCHQ, and makes a radical return to HUMINT. We also suppose that he recruits a lot of new people from sources that the KGB will not have thought to infilitrate. This is going to have to involve recruiting people of …

I have a friend who is planning a post apocolypse game and he was wondering if Dark Champions would have any specific material in it for that genre?

Hi I take that Card Shark didn't make the cut for Dark Champions 5th version, too bad that was a good Villian orgization.

I'm making a character who's alter-ego is a fantasy/sci-fi writer who's worked mainly in writing novels and short-stories for publishers of open-ended fantasy continuities. He's recently published his first Best Seller, it's a story and a setting of his own. His heroic identity is a 7 to 9 ft. tall (haven't decided that yet either) humanoid Dragon. He is the heir to a long lineage of protectors who bear the mark of the dragon upon their souls. The story goes: In the time before time, in the age of myths and legends, there were great wars being fought between gods, mythic beasts and mighty wizards (etc)... to protect the mortal flock from the collateral effects o…

G'day I am planning to start up a new campaign for agents of Her Majesty's Secret Service, in the spirit of the James Bond novels by Ian Fleming (as distinguished from the films from EON productions on one hand and the Smiley novels by John Le Carré on the other). The premise is that James Bond was born in 1918, retired from field work in 1963 and with a KCMG, and was recalled to take the post of M in about 1978. Sir James is on a commission to reorganise and rebuild the secret service after a time of perceived ineffectiveness or failure. The PCs will be new agents, recruited from outside the intelligence community, to as part of a 'clean start' rebuild of the …

Will any of theas 'workmen' weapions be writen up for Dark Champions? Would you let Mr. Bloodthirsty Vig-Man to carrie around a battery operated chainsaw for free? Yes, this is sick, but so am I. I'm not entirely certain I've been able to reconcile what I would classify as a "Dark Champions" campaign. I've read steve's notice regarding this forum and I've purchased a couple of supplements for scavenging purposes (as is my nature). But I've never purchased the original D.C. supplement. So I ask you to tell me about your Dark Champions Campiagns. (RDUNeil's is well known lore in the Champions Forum). What have you all done for DC campaings?

Hi long time fan off the old Dark Champions RPG, which in my mind was and is a very good setting and game I can't wait for the new DC 5th version. I see that Harbinger is back since he is one the cover, that's good he was star character of the DC world. But I would like my Artemis to be one as well. She is a physically trained female viglante, Artemis as her name say is a hunter at heart her prey are the scum and criminals of Hudson City. I need your help?,

Noticed in the back page writeup of the book that it mentioned the weird conspiracy genre. Is their much material in the book covering such stuff as the X Files or games such as Conspiracy X or Dark Matter? Would it be a genre you would think about publishing setting material for eventually? Rgds Torch

Okay, any ideas on just how one could use Dark Champions in the Champions Universe 'present day' (i.e., when all the metahumans are running around), aside from the whole masked vigilante sub-genre? Myself, I'd like to do something like a 'parallel campaign' in which regular PCs at times play a group of MARS cops or PRIMUS/UNTIL agents who clean up the messes the heroes either don't know about or can't be bothered with. Think like Harry Turtledove's two viewpoint characters in 'Guns of the South' -- General Lee on the high end and a regular trooper at the bottom, both viewing the same event but from very different viewpoints.

Steve has asked us not to discuss the name in the what do you want to see thread. Fine. I did make one comment that I hope was at least a little helpful and not ment to get a debate going. It has now however sprong two comments, so I am starting this thread to have a sounding board for people who disagree with the name. Steve has commented that there are a number of reasons for the name, the only two I have heard however are: I like it (He is the owner it is his right) Name recognition: I find this one to be weak as it is a different beast entirely I would recomend that the book be called Modern Hero (Keeps the pattern), then Dark Champions be used fo…

I noticed that this US Coast Guard weapon is not listed in the Dark Champions playtest manuscript. (Actually I think the Coast Guard is merely evaluating it). It it one of the standard issue weapons I am thinking about for my next DC game. The campaign will feature some monster hunts, so a weapon with knock down power is a big plus. Anybody care to take a stab at building this weapon for Hero System? A .50-calibur assault rifle! EDIT: This may be of use it is a link to the Ammunition Specifications for the gun.

I just have to say it: Storn, you've outdone yourself. The cover for Dark Champions is incredible. Awesome work. The subdued colors, the clean lines, the dramatic pose... it's just great. There is enough detail in the central character to invite further study (just what are all those things hanging from his belt, for instance), and yet the composition is clean and striking. Perhaps one of the best pieces we've ever seen from Hero Games. Wonderful! -- Scott

No write-ups yet (we've only had time for one session but it seemed to go over well), but here's my Disavowed campaign info for anyone remotely interested - http://www.realschluss.org/disavowed/ By the way, I got those hit location rules from Etherio, I think they work really well, though at this point it's preliminary as we only had a brief combat in the first session. (Steve, if you note, the house rules are just derived from the original set which once upon a time you reviewed and were okay - they changed since then but I think they stayed within bounds well)

The above title stands for Acronimed Groups In Dark Champions. Basicly, what groups of agents, both good and bad, exist in this world. Will there be a S.A.T. (Special American Tactics, the group which originaly was started up to be a stopgap measer until PRIMUS got up and running, then thay forgot to shut it down)? I no not so humble opinion, SAT would make a perfect sourse for heroic DC charaters to be members of, if you can get past the "pore man's G.I.Joe" stigma. RAVIN? (Or is that spelt RAVEN?) I see them as sort of the James Bond style excentric villians (but relativly normal) group. Card Sharps (Card Sharks)? While not acronimed, thay ARE the Hu…

After reading about how Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez were co-directing a big screen version of Miller's Sin City, I went out and bought some trade paperbacks to referesh my memory on why I liked these books. Inevitably this leads to thoughts of a Dark Champions setting using Sin City as a backdrop. Problem is, I'm not sure I can come up with enough plot points to keep a setting like this interesting for very long. I'll have no problem stealing certain plots from the books (Like the potential crime war in old town between the mafia, cops, and the "girls" from The Big Fat Kill) but I'm not sure I'll have enough to take it beyond a few sessions and keep things in…

I like the new DC Banner that I saw for the first time today. Who designs all of these banners anyway? Banner is the right name for this sort of thing isn't it? I'm pretty ignorant about web design. Man I want this book so much I can taste it. EDIT: Now that I have seen the awesome cover art by Mr. Cook, I can see where the art in the banner came from. The cover looks great, chalk up another one for Storn.

The game I'm in could easily be turning dark champions. One of the things that a player has raised, is that he doesn't trust the police to keep villains in jail. While he has no problem with outrightly killing a villain, he also would be willing to compromise with developing our own containment system for villains. I would like to see some discussion, both for the player and the gm about this aspect. Focusing on not only methods of containment, but repricusions for violating a criminal's right to due process. It might also be helpful to provide assistance to the GM for what to do when players decide to imprision villains.

The Dark Champions playtest manuscript is now available in the usual place for the Digital Hero playtesters and testreaders. It's a biggie -- as with all our genre books! -- so those of you who are interested in playtesting may want to "team up" and divvy the book into manageable portions. The deadline is July 19; I hate to make it so soon; but we're on a tight schedule if we're going to make GenCon. If you have any questions or comments, please post 'em in the "Company Questions" thread of the same title.
