Speaking of Character Conversions............... I did this to duplicate V&V Absorption: 5d6 Phisical Absorption, trigger: successful use of Block manuver(+1/4). is this technically legal? Essentially I block the attack and the guy still has to roll damage so i can absorb the body off of it....

Using huge weapons and throwing huge objects gives an OCV bonus right? Not sure really but if this is true would you give a huge character a bonus for Move Throughs if they're really big?

Here is the question: "How limiting are limitations in your campaign?" Before giving a knee-jerk answer, consider this: "How many players in your campaign have the majority of their powers bought with no limitations at all?" I know that some limitations may be "required" for a certain concept (Iron Man, Green Lantern), but, if limitations are being enforced correctly, and are not just "free points" then why don't many, if not most, players prefer their characters "unlimited"? After all, if the limitations are enforced the way they should be, it should be just as effective, overall, to build a character without them. I am not bringing this topic up …

Two of my players want to create a pair of mutant twins. Aside from their individual powers, they want to have a special mega-power which leaves them totally exhausted (probably unconscious)after using it. When they manage to touch each other, and both are not Stunned or Knocked Out, they can unleash an incredibly powerful energy wave. Now my question is: Who gets to pay for that power, and how much? Do I simply divide the total costs between the twins, or does one of them have to pay for all of it? And what value would the limitation be for the twins having to touch each other (s.a.)? I thought a -1/2 would be okay, what do you think?

This one seems so simple, but it kinda has me stumped for some reason: How would you build a harpoon in HERO?

I'm really quite afraid for my first use of HS this saturday. This is my question ; atack is an 1/2 phase action, and so is défense. So : 1. Is dodge a 1 phase action (1/2 +1/2) ? I feel not, but... 2. Can you strike and save the half phase for a defense ? If I remember well, striking must be your last action, the you shuld not... 3. If you take no action, your defense is jst your DCV with situatin bs/ms. So, it is mostly a choice. 4. Last one : do you have penalties when you're injuried, other than impaired ?

At least part of this post comes from a careful scinetific measurement of all the people involved in the 'catsuit' thread in another part of the forum. Every 5 pts of COM over 10: +1 bonus only to PRE-based rolls to persuade/attract people. +1d6 only to presence attacks to inspire/persuade people Every 5 pts of COM below 0: -1 penalty to all PRE-based rolls to persuade/attract people +1 bonus only to PRE-based rolls to frighten/intimidate people +1d6 only to presence attacks to intimidate people Every 5 pts of PRE over 10: +1 bonus to all PRE-based rolls +1d6 to all presence attacks I stuck in PRE just to contrast with COM. COM costs hal…

Reading TUV last night, I started thinking about the method of simulating broadsides (multiple attacks at the same OCV) quickly. This morning, I did some playing around with spreadsheets and came up with something that does a decent job of simulating repetitive rolls: To resolve X attacks made at the same OCV, make a single Autofire attack with X shots and an OCV bonus of X-1. Thus, 10 shots is Autofire 10 with +9 OCV; 50 shots is Autofire 50 and +49 OCV. The resulting odds are about as close to the actual odds as you're going to get while using 3d6. (I'm dangerous when bored.)

Anyone have an idea on how you would simulate the popular shotgun spread effect in this system. One obvious idea would be to use the AoE: Cone modifier but that seems kind of like over kill. The area seems too big. The other idea is to use the 3 shot Autofire mod. Perhaps with some changes like can only hit three adjacent hexes and you can't use skipfire or other effects. Autofire is usable just to hit more than one target. The problem I can see with this is that it is way clunky to do. Anyone have another idea maybe?

Okay, situation is as follows. Midnight can sit in one place and 'scan' all the shadows within a certain range. As long as it could be seen from the shadows, within the range of this power, she can see it. The character in question is mostly mortal (mutant, not goddess-of-night style) and is thus limited to vaguely realistic processing capability (no omniscience). Currently, im knocking around buying it as 360 on vision, scads of extra range on hearing and sight, with a massive increase in 'speed of perception' to the sight, and a limitation to restrict it to percieving from shadows. All of the above as a sense, and Indirect of course. This simulates a power th…

Man, don't know why but the answer to this simple question evaded me this weekend. How much damage does a thrown object do? I seem to remember it does STR damage, limited by BODY + DEF of the object, but I can't find it. And does it do that damage at any point in the throw (i.e. does it lose energy toward the end)? What happens if a PC throws a pointy thing (e.g. a handy harpoon from the deck of a whaling ship) - is that a killing attack with the same DC as STR/5? Range modifiers to OCV + aerodynamics etc., and distance from the STR table I've got. Just don't know why I can't find this one. Seems so basic. Hate to post such a simple question; it might damage my reput…

How do I construct a dispel that can be "charged up" each turn and then unleashed with either an abort, or a held action? Would Delayed Effect and Cumulative be the way to do it? I'm thinking of a Dispel against items with an electricity special effect. (+1/4) and then gathering up the effect dice and storing them until I choose to unleash it.

I saw an interesting question on the Hero System Questions page, and thought I'd throw out my (stolen) solution here. With GM's approval, a VPP could be bought with the Pool Cost equal to the real cost of the powers which it may support, and the control cost base equal to the highest active point total the VPP will support. For example, in a VPP with powers limited to 60 active points, but up to 90 real points of powers, it looks like this (with no advantages or limitations): 90 Variable Power Pool 30 Varaiable Power Pool Control Cost (60 active point powers) I forget who originally suggested it, but it's relatively flexible and doesn't change the co…

Out of curiosity... how much Growth would you need to create a fish 700 miles long? And on a related note -- how much STR to lift/support the central island of Japan (Honshu, right?)?

OK, so Entangle can make walls but you have to use Transform to make a bridge. A character has telekinesis, and would like to be able to rapidly build earthen / rocky bridges from nearby materials (the ground, in case you don't get the idea). Seems like a simple thing, but how do you do it? Is piling up dirt a cosmetic transform or a minor one? How much TK do you need to make a bridge across a 10' wide chasm? What about a 50' wide chasm? Do you need the Engineering skill if you expect it to hang around (I'd vote yes)? If you continue to pay END, maybe you DON'T need Engineering (again, I'd vote yes)? This must have been done thousands of times, how do y'all han…

I'm interested in building a homonculus power in hero but am stuck. I'm looking to simulate two things 1) a character who can break off parts of his body to run around independently on is behalf (I think this can be done with duplication). 2) a character on a zero phase action can spit his body into many (hundreds) of smaller entities, maybe many mini-me or maybe different calls of being like a thousand rats. All beings are parts of the whole character and upon recombination the character should suffer some damage/adverse affect for every entity missing (I'm thinking something like duplication and multiform maybe summon. i don't know) Your thoughts are appreciat…

In my FPCA Champions Campaign , the group is working on getting several team level items, one of which includes an AI (called SAL-9000, all credit on the name to Arthur C. Clark). The question has arose, can/should an artificial intellegence have social limitations? They would like SAL to have the social lim "Subject to Orders" ("he" will already have a psych lim "Must Obey Orders from Humans (Very Common; Strong)"). Not sure that his is necessary, or even a disadvantage. Any and all feedback will be appreciated! Thanks! Silbeg...

I've read in some posts that persistant Growth is not used to create large characters. If so, what do you use to increase a character's size then? Or to decrease it, for that matter?

A hero has flight and energy blast in a multipower. He wants to stay in the air but wants to maximize his energy blast. How many points or inches of flight must be maintained just to hover? Just wondering. Cheers.

Is there a "canon" way of doing a power that goes out of control on a failed Ego roll (somewhat like No Conscious Control would act)? My friend asked what the equivalent of the GURPS limitation "Uncontrollable" would be. I was thinking it could be some combination of RSR and No Conscious Control (NCC?), or perhaps it would involve a Side Effect (if so, explain pls). Am I missing an obvious "canon" answer? No Conscious Control does get very close, but it's missing the effect in its totality, from what I can tell.

Say you have a creature that is basically made up of hundreds of little creatures. A swarm like being. When part of the swarm dies, there are fewer hive minds. So how do you represent it losing INT when it takes damage?
